Since we were lacking in funding, the cost-effectiveness was also great to help us get on our feet and start reaching our organization members quickly. Pros The easy, ready-to use templates helped my organization start it's website. The affordability was great too since we were a newer professional organization. We were able to customize with colours to match our organization and drop in our own images once we got the hang of designing. Cons At the time of use, we were unable to input a payment system to where our organization members would be able to submit payments through the website instead of using invoicing outside of the website. It’s not too pricey and comes with many perks and good SEO. I highly recommend it. Pros Wix is extremely customisable to your needs. It can be as simple as clicking a button and letting Wix do all the work or you can choose to design everything yourself and start from the ground up. You have the opportunity to create your own templates for boxes and other elements you can add to your website which is not only easy, but means your website can look vastly different from any other wix website. Cons Ironically the wix blog function isn’t as versatile as their main competitor. Especially adding blog overviews isn’t as easy. You’re not able to pick and choose from many options how to show them in an overview. The biggest thing I miss in wix is the option to add several different blogs. I use blogs to organise different content, and though you can organise everything with different categories and tags, being able to put the information into separate blogs is sometimes preferred, but regrettably not an option with wix. Again, Wix has helped me with first steps transforming from a print designer to a web designer/developer, and I'm pretty thankful that I have found a tool that brought me the interest of development. 10/10, highly recommend for people who needs a quick but beautiful website without coding knowledge. Pros Simple, easy to use and powerful. I didn't know what coding is but I needed a builder to help me with building a porfolio website and I found Wix. It helped me to build an impressive website with all the magic animation (if you're creative you can do so much!) All the drag-n-drop function makes websites fun and even a 5th grader can create his own site. Wix has templates but it's way more fun to customize your own and make it unique. The cost to host it with Wix and have a domain isn't terrible either. Best fit for personal portfolio or young entrepreneurs didn't have a fund to hire web developers. P/S: I was a designer at the moment I found WIX, but it made me become more interested in Website, eventually I learn more about programming and languages, and grow out of Wix, but Wix sure was the first wonderful step in my career transitioning (I'm now a web designer/developer) Cons It was absolutely perfect for me when I didn't know any coding/programming. You can pay a little to get rid of the little Wix text at the bottom but the free version isn't the worst. This as plug and play as you can get. It is optimal for those who do not need to be found on the web, via Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Wix is not designed or optimized for SEO, yes they have their own integrations, but this is not as a good as a wordpress site. Cons That it does not give you a solid foundation for SEO. This is a piece of content that you give your existing clients, some business models are built on extracting more and more sales from a customer, once they have established the relationship. They've been able to employ a level of customization not possible on other similar platforms. Pros If you don't know how to write html for website design, Wix is a good option that offers you lots of flexibility in how to put your site together. What I appreciated most was the easy basic coding options that you can use, even without experience. Works like a plug and play dictionary of coding terms, that really lets you get the most out of your site. I also loved the fact that you can edit the mobile version of your site seperately - a much better option than automatic conversion, used by other outlets. Cons While wix gives you lots of freedom (more than something like squarespace), it comes at a price. I find the editor can be slow and glitchy. Sometimes it just chugs along, freezes up, etc. Some functionality is just finicky as well. And customer service can be hit or miss, in terms of help with features. Review Source Ushoshi S. So the software definitely helped me build a collection of all my work. Pros I started working with wix, to create my portfolio, I'm a designer and illustrator, in the profession a portfolio is essentially what is important for any employment. I needed to build a website for the same, so that I could easily share my work when an employment opportunity comes up. Pros: I had never worked on a website before, but building one on wix was actually surprisingly very easy to figure out. So ease of access is definitely a pro. After subscription, there a big pool of templates and styles to choose from. Easy to make grids and customising it according your aesthetic There is also a wide range of customisations to choose from, and you can constantly keep checking how your end product would look as you keep working on it. Cons The only con would be that, a free trial version has very little options available, so even though a free trial is an option you can only do very little. So I eventually purchased it. It's hard to explain to the customer about the limitations of WIX and that's caused some problems for me. It is what it is, which is why I mentioned it's good for small businesses, events, etc. The sites are easy to update, easy to use but if you're planning on conquering the world, it won't happen with WIX. The ability to use SEO is weak at best, so that limits how much Pros I've been using WIX since it started and have watched it morph into quite a robust tool. It has a great palette of themes, it's drop-and-drag simple and has all the tools needed for e-commerce. You don't need coding experience and don't have to hire a web person to build it. You can build a beautiful website for little money. It's great for creating sites for small businesses, e-commerce, Facebook commerce, events, family albums and just about anything you can think of that you want to put on the web. Cons Because of its ease of use, there are restrictions on design. What I like the very least is that when you outgrow their capabilities, you can't transfer your site to another host. It's a proprietary content management system. That means any upgrade you want to make that WIX can't provide means that you have to start over from scratch with another host and web company, and that will be costly. when you sign up for WIX, it's for life or bust! Also, the SEO tools are weak. The cost of WIX if you keep it for many years can exceed the cost of a robust WordPress site that has excellent SEO visibility. Cons Their design features are a little slow to catch up - for example, they only recently started offering responsive sites, which was unideal especially given the increase in mobile-only traffic.
