### " A Powerful and Customizable Data Visualization Tool"

September 17, 2024

4.0

In conclusion, we liked the usefulness of Looker Studio in the team. The design and presentation of compelling and attractive dashboards stuffed with the right information has enhanced the way we make decisions based on data.

Pros

Looker Studio is very customizable providing possibilities of creating specific dashboards for a given clientele. The application does a great job at transforming intricate datasets into visuals that can be understood within a short span of time making it simple to detect patterns and insights.

Cons

Learning curve: Despite the app having a nice graphic user interface layout, the users are likely to face challenges in understanding how to use it especially new comers in visualising data. Such as it is in Looker Studio where there are numerous datasets most of which are supported, some custom or specialized datasets may have restrictions.

Alternatives considered

[Tableau](https://www.capterra.com/p/208764/Tableau/)[Microsoft Power BI](https://www.capterra.com/p/176586/Power-BI/)

Reason for choosing Looker

Looker Studio was able to connect effortlessly with other Google Workspace products.

### "My go-to for client reports"

July 16, 2025

3.0

Once you understand the system, it gets easy to use and it’s very flexible. At the moment I am delivering 200 monthly reports with this source, works great and is reliable.

Pros

The reports are very customable, you can design a report almost as if you were working in power point. Like a drag-and-drop of different type of charts, and everything is connected to the sources you integrate.

Cons

It takes time to understand the tool, the resources integration can be confusing when you start using it. Also many useful charts are not available unless you install extensions. Would be also good if you could connect more resources than just Google ones, for example Facebook or linked in, without having to pay a third party for this solution.

Switched from

We needed something more accurate and more customizable. Also a cheaper solution with more options.

### "Easy to use and compatible solution"

April 13, 2026

4.0

One-stop solution for probably >80% of reporting and data visualization topics within a company and easy to use access and downloading rights of underlying data.

Pros

Looker is a user-friendly and versatile cloud solution to provide analytics to a larger organization. The charting and graphs offer sufficient flexibility for the BI team to create the corresdonding reports and are easy to setup with reasonable ressources. A fairly priced solution given the variety of functions.

Cons

There is a slight delay depending on the data accessibility and performance to load but it is reliable across multiple end user devices (mobile, desktop)

### "Project lead and data analysts Looker Studio experience"

January 26, 2026

4.0

Overall, my experience with looker has been positive. It provides a great selection of basic data visual tools and data integration options across several platforms. Looker does fall down a little bit when it comes to more advanced data handling and lacks some more complex data visualisation tools which competitors like Tableau provide. Use looker if you want a quick easy to pick up tool to create data visuals at a good standard. You may want to look at other options for more advanced options especially if you are communciating this data to senior stakeholders in a large company

Pros

Overall Looker is a good platform to build and develop useful data visuals and developed dashboards. The main benefit is the plethora of compatible sources of data. Utilising a mix of G suite and Microsoft looker can pull data from both googles platforms and microsoft as well as CSV files. Understandably looker is optimised for the G suite. This is a great benefit. I heavily rely on Bigquery. Within 3 clicks I can connect a big query script to a looker dashboard and begin working on creating clear and coherent visuals on the back of the data. Looker does give several customisable options for visuals. Utilising various charts like box and whisper and line charts as well as being able to overlay several data sources to have a simple clear visual on how different data sources compare. This is a great tool to easily visualise things for non technical and techincal stakeholders alike. On the whole I have not experienced and significant issues or bugs within in looker studio which inistelf is a great postive.

Cons

One of the key visuals that would be useful in looker is a data heat map. There are ways of doing this in looker however it requires several workarounds that are not the most accurate and don't deliver the requirements I require. This data visual is available in Tableau and is a key benefit over looker for me as I look at geographical trends which are easily illustratable to non techincal stakeholders. Another con however is a standard across modern cloud platforms is the reliablity on a third party provider. When there are outages on google this renders looker useless until this is fixed. This results in delays to daily work which is out of your control as an end user.

### "Great software for productivity tracking."

October 1, 2025

5.0

We are using it in our data extraction pipeline to track the time analysts spend on each document and their activities. This helps us set realistic targets for the team and boosts overall productivity. We also share daily reports with the team, which has further improved performance and efficiency

Pros

We appreciated Looker’s wide range of features, but what impressed us the most was its ability to create productivity metrics and provide consistent time and activity tracking.

Cons

Integration with other software is a challenging task for the development team. Looker should provide a clear and user-friendly integration guide to make the process easier.

### "A good BI tool for quick solutions, but with limitations"

September 26, 2025

4.0

I found that blending data from multiple data sources can be a hassle. Working more on building the visualizations, I found that while the final users appreciate the basic visuals and charts, my desire to create more compelling designs and visuals can be constrained by the platform limitations. Also, for complex queries, Looker becomes pretty slow. On the other hand, the interactivity its visuals bring up is better than one of the BI tool I used in the past (Tableau).

Pros

Probably the capability to allow non-technical users to create their own dashboards/reports to explore data. While a data analytics team can work on building complex dashboards, allowing for discovery and diagnostic, Looker allows business users to quickly draw out some information on their own, without wasting time on raising requests for the dev team

Cons

From a developer/data analyst point of view, the visualization capabilities are pretty limited compared to other tools, like Tableau or Power BI. Also, some limitations when it comes to connecting to different types of data sources.

### "Solid dashboard tool"

August 7, 2025

4.0

It is very easy to configure and implement dashboards on looker. For any company where GCP is their main source of ground truth, it is best choice but if you have equal possibility of using alternatives, there might be better options in the market as well.

Pros

It was very easy implementation and linking the data to GCP. It was used as the dashboard tool both for internal(marketing and business) and external(clients) teams. UI was user friendly and easy to set up.

Cons

There were a few bugs and issues with the dashboard. Some was that there were discrepancies between the main database and GCP, which resulted in missing data in the final dashboard.

Looker is a comprehensive reporting tool, it saves a lot of time as the data is imported automatically from different sources like sheets, Analytics or Google Ads. These reports can easily be exported in PDF and or shared directly fromc the app.

Pros

The most I like that I can connect different data sources witch will import automatically and create a complex dashboard for a better overview. I can easily create scheduled reports and share them.

When it comes to reports Looker is the only way you can provide complex reports, easy to update and customize.

Pros

The best feature at Looker is the way to can connect to multiple sources at once and create complex reporting and data analytics. Another good feature that worth to be mentioned is that I can share these reports with my colleagues with a shareable link or easily export in PDF and share. Due its connection with sources the reports are always up to date as it imports the data automaticaly.

### "Looker in general"

September 30, 2024

4.0

We used Looker a lot in our CEO presentations. We were wasting a lot of time trying to visualize our source data in gsheets. When we started using Looker, it saved us a lot of time and helped us a lot in making sense of the data.

Pros

It visualizes your data in a very short time and facilitates KPI tracking. These visualizations are very important in the flow of information between teams.

Cons

It is difficult to implement tables at first. It's a bit hard to learn, but once you get the hang of it, it gets easier to use.

Pros

An important feature is that you can import data from different sources easily and automatically. I have created a dashboard with all the information I need, and with the graphs created, it is easier to analyze the evolution and what needs to be done in the future.

### "Looker Review"

February 5, 2024

4.0

Given that any tool providing the features that Looker does, I do not think that any alternatives would eliminate the difficulties sometimes experienced with Looker. Therefore it is a strong choice, particularly for reporting automation and visualisation

Pros

Looker allows for you to create automated and visual reports that you can use to refer back to for use within the team as well as wider reporting to superiors/clients. It has a wide variety of features and being able to tailor dashboards exactly how you would like them gives the freedom to make reports bespoke to your needs

Cons

It can be quite fiddly to get set up with multiple data sources, and once there are issues, if they are not promptly sorted, they can compromise the accuracy report/dashboard. Once there are issues, it can often be tricky to identify the root cause

### "Looker is a decent BI tool that can handle your needs."

February 12, 2023

3.0

Since its introduction, Looker has proven to be a crucial tool for our business. By enabling us to organise and construct dashboards to handle data from several sources in one location, it has significantly reduced the amount of time and effort we have to expend. It now has a considerable impact on decision-making that is BI driven, so far.

Pros

It allows several users to use and perform actions on the same amount of data available without affecting each others work. Enables us in creating compelling dashboards, meaningful reports with its set of internal tools, flexibility with its customization of the platform as per user's liking, keeping the data safe that is sensitive to the business with advanced encryption, user access control.

Cons

A little complex on the integration part with other system softwares is what I noticed as a struggle in my work environment. Also some issues with the buffer, when the command is run again and again after creating the reports. When a report's format changes, my scheduled reports disappear and filters aren't operating correctly.

### "Controlled Analytics Exploration"

May 17, 2018

3.0

Like I said, it's a great tool for analysts that don't need a lot of flexibility or maybe just aren't used to working with a lot of data. To get the full value out of this software, you'll need a core group of experienced Data Analysts that can learn fast (to learn Lookers Table Calculation code which is similar to SQL) who can build a bunch of dashboards and views. You really don't want people who aren't savvy with data doing a lot of the creating because measures are always aggregated based on the dimensions you pull into each table...if a user forgets to add a specific dimension then measures could show the wrong value. This could be offset by having really good developers who architect the data in a way that doesn't allow this to happen.

Pros

It's a great data exploration tool for users who normally would get anxious when given a large dataset in something like Excel. It's generally simple to use and there can be unlimited Viewers (users at the lowest permissions level) through the enterprise product. Data Visualization is essentially done for you and Exploers (users at the second level of permissions) can build new visualizations & turn them into interactive dashboards. On the Looker platform, Explorers can locate a view (called an Explore) and then are given a list of dimensions and measures they can pull into a table. Users can create new dimensions using calculated fields and then save their views so any users with Viewer permissions (and up) can see what was put together.

Cons

With simplicity comes lack of flexibility. More skilled data analysts will want more flexibility than Looker can provide but at the same time you need to have highly skilled Data Analysts to be the Developers (high level of permissions) to set up the data so that less skilled analysts (the users who benefit from Looker most) who are Explorers don't build views that grossly misrepresent the data. My biggest pet peeve with this software as an Explorer is that you cannot make calculations on the base data...only the data that you pull into your table (called table calculations). That is a major feature that Tableau has that Looker does not have at the Explorer permission level. Of course developers can use LookML (Lookers data language) to create a new column...but a Developer license is more expensive and creating the fields take time and it's something you constantly will need.

### "Looker is a powerful BI tool for fast growing businesses"

May 6, 2024

5.0

Pros

Looker has significant power with enterprise capabilities enabling us to garner insights and analytics throughout a very complex business. Looker has great capabilities around triggers which is essential for a business like ours handling volume that can vary.

Cons

It is not the most user friendly tool and can have performance issues around loading. There are definitely other BI tools that have prioritised UX which helps drive data literacy across our business. With Looker, we've struggled to get non-data people into the tool to really use it as they find it hard to use without significant training.

### "Looker Studio is an absolute game-changer"

September 18, 2023

5.0

Over the past two years, my experience with Looker Studio, coupled with Porter Metrics connectors, has been incredibly positive. The combination of Looker Studio's robust data analytics capabilities and the seamless integration provided by Porter Metrics has streamlined my data analysis processes and empowered me to derive valuable insights efficiently. The user-friendly interface of Looker Studio has made navigating complex data models a breeze, while Porter Metrics connectors have facilitated smooth data integration from various sources. This partnership has not only enhanced my data-driven decision-making but has also simplified the overall analytics experience, making it an essential part of my workflow.

Pros

Looker Studio's standout features is its robust data modeling capabilities. The ability to create and customize data models is crucial in tailoring analytics to meet specific business needs. Looker Studio makes this process remarkably straightforward, empowering users to build complex models with ease. This flexibility ensures that you can derive insights that are truly relevant to your organization.

Cons

The flexibility and customization options in Looker Studio can be both a strength and a weakness. While it allows for tailored analytics solutions, it can also be complex to set up intricate data models and dashboards, requiring a higher level of technical expertise.

With Looker, I discovered new and more ways to present my data. Since I use Google Sheets, I just need to connect it and from there I can customize my reports into charts and dashboard. This helps me "see" my data better and assist in making reliable business decisions.

Pros

What I like most about this software is it's not really overwhelming to use. After a bit of warming up with the functions and options available, you will begin enjoying creatively visualizing your data.

Cons

### "Daily Looker User- Very Few Complaints"

April 1, 2024

4.0

Pros

My company uses Looker as a BI tool internally and externally. The interface allows us to easily train customers and colleagues on how to use and manipulate the data, even if a user does not have any SQL experience. Finalized dashboards and looks provide us with visually appealing metrics.

Cons

There are some limitations to custom calculations/ dimensions that can trip our users up when trying to manipulate data on their own. The support forums do not always offer solutions or workarounds for these limitations, so it must ultimately go upstream to the point where development changes need to be made.

April 21, 2024

This is the greatest tool I found for data visualization. I am using it for the website, I have connected all reporting tools in one place and share it with all the departments to track their progress.

Pros

Connecting all data sources is very easy and even a non-tech guy can do it. Organizing the dashboard was not a easy task, there are so many options for graphs and charts on the data. Report sharing is phenomenal, after I create it is easy to share it with different departments and each one can see the how they are doing.

Cons

The only hard thing for me was how to organize my first page dashboard, wanted all of them there.

### "Provides valuable insights for all users (Technical and End Users)"

June 14, 2019

5.0

This software has truly put our leadership team above the benchmark with data efficiencies and making informed data driven decisions.

Pros

Looker is incredibly easy to use, and it easily scales with your technical abilities. As an Analyst, I can create very easy to use self serve reports for stakeholders. This saves time and effort for both parties. Looker also has a very intuitive way of organizing data and letting you quickly visualize data in your warehouse. It is reliable and the data visualization options are abundant. Our leadership team is miles ahead of others I've seen because of how quickly they were able to learn how to use Looker.

Cons

I don't necessarily see this as a con, however I think there is a big opportunity to help guide some new users through some of the more technical setup of Looker. I relied on a mentor to help take me through LookML and Models/Explores, but I would have loved to have some in product help with this.
