At the moment I am delivering 200 monthly reports with this source, works great and is reliable. Pros The reports are very customable, you can design a report almost as if you were working in power point. Like a drag-and-drop of different type of charts, and everything is connected to the sources you integrate. Cons It takes time to understand the tool, the resources integration can be confusing when you start using it. Also many useful charts are not available unless you install extensions. Would be also good if you could connect more resources than just Google ones, for example Facebook or linked in, without having to pay a third party for this solution. It is shareable and collaborating with different departments via sheets allows me to gather all the data I need fast and on time. It gives a good and complex overview over different parts of the business and department I work. The reports are easy to share or export to other as PDF or online report. Pros The most important feature for me is that I can have always up to date reports, connecting different data sources like different apps and sheets and updating the reports in real time saves me a lot of time and hard work. Creating a dashboard with different data is easy and straightforward and worth every second spend to learn how to create your it. Cons For a fist timer it was a little hard to get all data connected and create the charts and graphs as I imagined. It provides a great selection of basic data visual tools and data integration options across several platforms. Looker does fall down a little bit when it comes to more advanced data handling and lacks some more complex data visualisation tools which competitors like Tableau provide. Use looker if you want a quick easy to pick up tool to create data visuals at a good standard. You may want to look at other options for more advanced options especially if you are communciating this data to senior stakeholders in a large company Pros Overall Looker is a good platform to build and develop useful data visuals and developed dashboards. The main benefit is the plethora of compatible sources of data. Utilising a mix of G suite and Microsoft looker can pull data from both googles platforms and microsoft as well as CSV files. Understandably looker is optimised for the G suite. This is a great benefit. I heavily rely on Bigquery. Within 3 clicks I can connect a big query script to a looker dashboard and begin working on creating clear and coherent visuals on the back of the data. Looker does give several customisable options for visuals. Utilising various charts like box and whisper and line charts as well as being able to overlay several data sources to have a simple clear visual on how different data sources compare. This is a great tool to easily visualise things for non technical and techincal stakeholders alike. On the whole I have not experienced and significant issues or bugs within in looker studio which inistelf is a great postive. Cons One of the key visuals that would be useful in looker is a data heat map. There are ways of doing this in looker however it requires several workarounds that are not the most accurate and don't deliver the requirements I require. This data visual is available in Tableau and is a key benefit over looker for me as I look at geographical trends which are easily illustratable to non techincal stakeholders. Another con however is a standard across modern cloud platforms is the reliablity on a third party provider. When there are outages on google this renders looker useless until this is fixed. Working more on building the visualizations, I found that while the final users appreciate the basic visuals and charts, my desire to create more compelling designs and visuals can be constrained by the platform limitations. Also, for complex queries, Looker becomes pretty slow. On the other hand, the interactivity its visuals bring up is better than one of the BI tool I used in the past (Tableau). Pros Probably the capability to allow non-technical users to create their own dashboards/reports to explore data. While a data analytics team can work on building complex dashboards, allowing for discovery and diagnostic, Looker allows business users to quickly draw out some information on their own, without wasting time on raising requests for the dev team Cons From a developer/data analyst point of view, the visualization capabilities are pretty limited compared to other tools, like Tableau or Power BI. For any company where GCP is their main source of ground truth, it is best choice but if you have equal possibility of using alternatives, there might be better options in the market as well. Pros It was very easy implementation and linking the data to GCP. It was used as the dashboard tool both for internal(marketing and business) and external(clients) teams. UI was user friendly and easy to set up. Cons There were a few bugs and issues with the dashboard. Pros The best feature at Looker is the way to can connect to multiple sources at once and create complex reporting and data analytics. Another good feature that worth to be mentioned is that I can share these reports with my colleagues with a shareable link or easily export in PDF and share. Due its connection with sources the reports are always up to date as it imports the data automaticaly. Cons I found it a little hard at first to create a complete report for my needs. It removed our need to ask for data all the time because it doesn't require much technical knowledge to be able to learn how to use it and we can all quickly fetch and chart most data with it on our own. It is very easy to learn for an individual. It is user friendly as well. Overall good experience from the tool. It is way better than Tableau and Qlik. Pros First and foremost, the most important feature of Looker is, it is cloud based BI tool which can be accessed remotely and easy to work unless like other tools where it requires to be installed in the PC.It has clean and simple UI which is very to build dashboards and reports.Lookml option provides benefit of flexibility in code which in turn help to create own metrics and create calculations. This helps for the marketer or developer to have the control of the metrics Data modelling is very easy to create and Looker has the capacity to sync with various connectors to access the data from other sources, which solves the use case of having 3rd party connectors. Cons The new interface of swapping between read-only and developer is not that great. The older version was better as compared to the new one. Customer support is gone from good to bad. When I had queries , customer support team could not help as they themselves were not aware of the tool and also they share articles which are available with google search to diagnose.The codes should have an option to export to PDF. Pros Customization is one of the best parts of looker. Having the ability to fit the data to the required details through filters is handy. You can add/remove or filter data as you wish. The platform also has multiple types of visualizing and also the option to downloading the data in various forms. Cons The platform is great, but in sometimes, during high traffic, the process is prolonged. It takes forever to load a look or dashboard. Also, the learning curve is a bit tough at the start but gets better once you get the grip. Also great to be able to pull in data from attribution tools like Ruler Analytics too. Cons Not necessarily a ‘con’ as such, but your dashboards look as good as you are a designer; I’ve seen some incredible dashboards built by colleagues and peers and also seen some truly terrible ones; the flexibility of the tool means you do need to have a basic grasp of data analysis and visualisation. Paired with a kick-ass centralized data warehouse (we use Snowflake), Looker lets us roll things out very quickly (provided our data infrastructure is in good shape). It did take a while to get going with Looker because it lays on top of the existing data infrastructure. Now that we have quite a bit of strong infrastructure in place in our centralized data warehouse, we are able to produce data products in Looker quite quickly. Pros Provisioning security allows us to control the user experience (and only show users things they would actually care about). This makes a dashboard or data product rollout far smoother. Additionally, the customer support (especially through the chat interface) is absolutely fantastic. Because Looker creates a custom URL for each explore you're working on, you can share with Customer Support your exact problem and work together to find a solution. Cons Looker Sales told us beforehand that it "writes the most performant SQL possible." I have not found this to be the case, as it often casts and does a few other things (I suspect to make it runnable no matter how you've set up your data). There are some limitations on the visualizations, etc., but Looker Customer Service has been super responsive when those come up. Review Source JB John B.
