October 2, 2024 5.0 I think Clockify is the best option for me and my team as of right now, but there are certainly places where I think it could improve particularly on the client side and with notifications. Pros I think my favorite thing about Clockify is that we can use it to track retainers for our clients. We simply put in the tasks with hour limits so that we can track our progress alongside how many hours have already been paid for. I haven't found any other platform on the market with this capability! Cons I wish that the client side was a little more seamless. I don't want to have to pay for every single client that wants to see their progress on a retainer, but the only other option is to send them a shared report that doesn't show a project status. I also wish there were capabilities built in to where I could set a due date for projects and send notifications to my team if they are halfway through a retainer, falling behind or have completed used their hours. For example, we use the tasks within projects for our retainers which clients pay for upfront. So if a client pays for a 10 hour retainer, that is added in and assigned to the team member. They then look at the status to see how many hours they have used that have been paid for. I wish there was a way for me to set a due date that corresponded with the day that their next retainer would be paid and then send an email to my team member that says "hey you've used half your retainer!" or "hey, you are over your total retainer hours". It's light and efficient. Really happy with it! Pros Clockify provides the option of tracking hours and adding them manually. However, the feature I like most about it is the variety of reports. It allows you to easily check the summary of all different categories and is so easy to use! This feature is particularly helpful for payroll. Cons I work on different projects for work. Even though it is easy to add the projects, each time they are selected/started in the timer, it allows it to be edited and once it is, the project shows up multiple times. I did not like that. The free features still give you quite a functional program, with a couple of premium options (such as invoicing) that I was happy to pay for. The free version is very generous in terms of functionality. From phone app to browser extension, to web app, it works quite seamlessly and syncs easily. Pricing is really fair for what is offered. Cons I'm working hard to come up with meaningful Cons to be able to help provide a helpful directive for those who might be considering using Clockify. I would say that for myself, largely as a solopreneur, I'm underutilizing Clockify and the many powerful features it has. Of course those features are beneficial, but for someone just diving in, it can feel a little bit overwhelming to try and sift through all of the functionality. They've done a good job of the various tiers, and the pricing is quite fair, but for small time users it might feel a little bit overpowered. Also, after I generated an invoice in USD, a client requested I re-submit the invoice in CAD for ease of cross-border banking, and I wasn't able to just change the currency, I had to go through and manually edit each dollar amount on the line items to reflect the changed currency. Also, you can add a comment on what you're working on exaclty. I like also the fact you can change the time entries as sometimes, you were interrupted and need to change the entry or exit time. Also a very good feature for me as I bill by the month, it's the "reports" feature as you can filter time tracking by period; and you can also filter by clients, projects and other features I'm not using myself. Knowing where I am spending most time is of great value and having a tool like Clockify that allows me to do this with little to to overhead, from multiple devices, even in the free tier, is absolutely great! Pros Even with the free tier it is feature-rich and allows for effective and efficient tracking of time across different project and tasks within the project. You need to invest some time initially in getting setup with the projects and tasks that would best suit you, but once you do it, there little to no overhead when doing the actual tracking of tasks. Ability to keep all of this in sync and do it across multiple devices is a big bonus! Cons The web app is most user-friendly and allows users to do a lot more than phone app (which is ok for quick tracking of tasks and viewing of tracked tasks, but not really for setup etc), or the desktop app (which is not at par with their mobile app or the web app experience). To anyone who wants a time tracker to spend less time on their job while delivering quality work, I will refer them to the Clockify time tracker. The layout of the application is clear and begins with an easy-to-understand homepage which does not cause any confusion when it comes to tracking hours and working on tasks. Something I like in the application is flexibility in sorting the time entries by project or by client. It is integrated with other tools and makes it easy to work with for integrating other tools such as Trello and Asana. Moreover, the lite version is quite rich and includes many tools that could be paid for in other programs. Cons Despite this, I think Clockify has many features, and while the mobile application was less intensive than the desktop version. Some of the features such as advanced reports and project management functions are not as comprehensive on mobile as I am psychologically programmed to expect, and as such, it becomes somewhat cumbersome when I have to log time in the field.
