“While Google Sheets is very functional, it can be more limited than Excel when it comes to advanced formulas, data analysis, and large datasets. As spreadsheets grow more complex, they can become harder to manage and easier to break if multiple users are editing at once.“

### "One of the best tools I’ve used for collaboration... It is not 100% perfect "

July 6, 2026

5.0

To be honest, Google Sheets has changed the way we operate. Before that, we had sent Excel files in the email and everyone sent you their modified version, and that was a mess. Now we have only one "source of truth" and the whole team is returning to him. We used it as a simple database and as a dashboard (dashboard) for small and medium-sized enterprises, and it worked very well with us. If your team needs more speed and collaboration than complex advanced features, it’s an excellent option, especially since the price of Google Workspace is worth compared to other alternatives on the market.

Pros

Frankly, the thing I liked most about Google Sheets is that it's not just "Excel Online", it's really a real collaboration tool. We use it at work on a daily basis, and the most needed and saved time is that the whole team can work on the same file at the same time - whether budget or project plan - without any fear that it is sabotaging a need, because the advantage of "record adjustments" will return you any old copy if there is a mistake. My personal experience has saved me more than once. ImporTrange is also used to link data between different files, and it saves me hours I used to use in copy and paste. Linking it to Google Forms to automatically collect data is a very practical need in our job. Our team of programming specialists also develops custom tools that help us more with Google Apps script.

Cons

The main problem I face is that when data gets too big, it means hundreds of thousands of rows with complex equations, performance starts to slow down significantly, and it's a little frustrating if you're working on a big need. It also has advanced formatting options and data analysis tools that do not exist like Excel , especially ZiPower Pivot needs. Offline mode does exist, but it's not as smooth as being online - sometimes there's a slight delay when you return online again.

Switched from

[Microsoft Excel](https://www.capterra.com/p/176574/Excel/)

Before my transition, I relied mainly on Microsoft Excel (desktop version). The move was because we needed real-time collaboration between team members, because Excel was having problems with file sharing and conflicting copies when more than one person was working on the same file at the same time. While Excel remains superior in certain areas, like advanced analytical tools (Power Pivot) and formatting, the convenience of easy collaboration and remote access in Google Sheets proved to be our deciding factor.

### "User friendly Spreadsheet and Collaboration Tool "

August 6, 2026

4.0

All in all my experience with Google Sheets is quit positive for both my personal and professional work. Although some improvements may provide a better user experience like advanced usage of templates and better support responses.

Pros

Google Sheets offers excellent features for a great value of money. Features like formula calculations make simple to complex budgeting data analysis smooth. It's interface is user friendly even for beginners. It also offers real time collaboration which allows number of people to work on same work sheet at the same time without any hassle.

Cons

The built in templates are not worth the hype as per my personal experience can be better with wide usage. Also the customer support fail provide the needed assistance with complex issues.

### "Google Sheets"

July 1, 2025

3.0

Overall my experience has been good, but between the mobile issue and the fact that some formatting is only done automatically and can't be manually adjusted, the program isn't what I would like it to be

Pros

There are lots of great customization options, automated setup, and a large variety of ways to store and showcase data.

Cons

The mobile app is basically useless due to the fact that data doesn't display correctly within the intended cels - it will instead overlap with cell borders. This makes the entire spreadsheet format unusable

### "Simple, Reliable and Very Useful for Daily Business Operations"

April 22, 2026

5.0

Overall, my experience has been very positive. It has helped us improve visibility of data, reduce manual work, and build useful trackers without needing expensive software. We still use it regularly because it is practical, reliable, and quick to adapt when business needs change. For day-to-day operations, it has been a very valuable tool.

Pros

What I like most is how flexible it is. We use Google Sheets for all sorts of things like tracking purchases, monitoring hire costs, invoice logs, cashflow, and general reporting. It’s easy to update, easy to share, and multiple people can work in it at the same time. It also works really well with other Google tools like Forms and Drive, which helps us keep processes simple.

Cons

When spreadsheets become very large or complicated, they can be harder to manage and sometimes slower to use. You also need to keep things organised properly, otherwise files can become messy over time. For very advanced processes, a dedicated system may be better than relying only on spreadsheets.

Alternatives considered

[Microsoft Excel](https://www.capterra.com/p/176574/Excel/)

Reason for choosing Google Sheets

We considered Microsoft Excel, but Google Sheets was a better fit for the way we work day to day. The main advantages were real-time collaboration, easy sharing, cloud access from anywhere, and no issues with different file versions being emailed around. It also works well with other Google tools we already use, which made it easier to build practical internal trackers and reporting systems.

### "Powerful and Collaborative Spreadsheet Tool for Everyday Use"

June 16, 2026

5.0

My overall experience with Google Sheets has been extremely positive. It has become an essential tool for organizing data, tracking projects, performing calculations, and collaborating with teams. The ability to access spreadsheets from any device and work with others in real time significantly improves productivity. I particularly value the extensive formula library, ready-to-use templates, and integration with the broader Google Workspace ecosystem. Although there are some limitations when handling very large datasets, the ease of use, collaboration features, and overall reliability make Google Sheets one of the best cloud-based spreadsheet solutions available today.

Pros

What I liked most about Google Sheets is its seamless collaboration capability. Multiple users can edit, comment, and review spreadsheets in real time, making teamwork extremely efficient. The platform is easy to use, and its familiar interface allows users to become productive quickly. I also appreciate the wide range of formula calculation options that support everything from basic arithmetic to advanced data analysis. The built-in templates save time when creating budgets, project trackers, schedules, and reports. Integration with other Google Workspace applications further improves productivity. Considering the features available and the fact that it is accessible from anywhere, it offers excellent value for money.

Cons

One drawback of Google Sheets is that performance can slow down when working with very large datasets or complex formulas. Some advanced spreadsheet features available in dedicated desktop spreadsheet software are either limited or unavailable. Customer support for free users is relatively limited and often relies on community forums and online documentation. While the user interface is generally intuitive, managing extremely large workbooks can sometimes become cumbersome. Occasional formatting inconsistencies may also occur when importing files from other spreadsheet applications.

### "Google Sheets: Its uses are many, and its downsides are few"

August 3, 2026

5.0

My overall experience has been good because it has helped a lot with work and understanding balances and at work.

Pros

What I like most about Google Sheets is how useful it is at work. We use it to track inventory across different warehouses. The fact that it is free is nice so the value it offers us is wonderful. We use formulas a lot to project new balances for the future so we can predict what inventory of products to receive in the future. It is fairly easy to use once you get used to the templates. The user interface is friendly and inviting and it is clear as to what you can use it for. I have never had to use customer support for Google Sheets because I never run into problems.

Cons

Using Google Sheets has its downsides like not being useful with large data sets and limited data analysis features.

### "Got my small business off the ground"

July 10, 2026

4.0

Honestly it's my go-to whenever I need to get something organized fast. I leaned on it hard in the early days of my business and still use it for budget tracking and quick one-off lists. It's not the tool I'd build a serious CRM on, but for everyday spreadsheet work it's reliable and I never have to think twice about it.

Pros

When I was first setting up Wildstar Weddings I basically ran my whole client tracking out of Sheets. It was free, I already knew my way around it, and I could spin up a new tab or column whenever I thought of something I wanted to track. Budgeting, client info, follow-up dates, all of it lived in one file. The fact that it updates live and I can get to it from my phone or laptop made it really easy to keep on top of things without paying for anything fancy.

Cons

It works great until you outgrow it. Once my client list started getting longer, using a spreadsheet as a real CRM started to feel clunky and it wasn't something I could scale long term. I eventually moved that side of things over to a custom setup, but for what it is a spreadsheet, not a database it did the job longer than I expected.

### "Great data management tool"

July 6, 2026

5.0

Pros

Google Sheets is able to do 99% of what I need it to, and it's far easier and more intuitive to figure out than Microsoft Excel. I love that it seamlessly integrates with the rest of the Google Suite of products and is easy to find old files.

Cons

Not many downsides to Sheets. It's simple, effective, and secure. If I needed more in-depth features, a more customizable tool like Excel might be needed.

### "Extremely Useful & Diverse"

August 3, 2026

5.0

On the whole, google sheets is awesome. It works well, comes with lots of storage space inside google drive, and has all the predominant features someone would want. It's also possible to have multiple currencies and languages within one sheet, which is super useful for international data.

Pros

Functions exactly the same as the one we all grew up with but it's integrated into the G-suite, so it's much easier to access more often. The smart features are great for writing in equations and there's lots of templates for diverse business needs.

Cons

The mobile version is extremely difficult to navigate. I'd like if it were easier to view from our phones. Also, I dislike using google sheets to create a graph for google slides. It permanently saves it as a separate file in google sheets, which seems like a waste of storage space to me.

### "Google sheets saved so much time"

July 25, 2026

5.0

It helped me so much to organise during school I love it!! Definitely everyone should learn how to use Google Sheets (work and non)

Pros

I used a lot Google sheets throughout school but also now while working it helps me to organise everything, mind-blowing how much stuff it can do (for free also)!! I love how easy it is to set something up or calculate in a second. Sometimes I've used it for collaboration and I've got to understand how the interface when opening it works by now.

Cons

At the beginning it was a bit difficult to understand how to use but I got the hang of it going on and on.

### "Google Sheets does EVERYTHING I need it to. Developed an entire payroll system, tax calculation, paystubs and all"

May 12, 2025

5.0

Overall, I have been VERY pleased with Google Sheets. I can't imagine using anything else for my sheet tasks anymore. They integrate nicely into other software, there are tons of extensions you can safely use. Again, I have developed an entire payroll system down to calculating federal taxes, tracking what is due and printing paystubs, all using Google Sheets.

Pros

I LOVE Google Sheets. I use it for a lot of my work functions. I have an entire payroll system I developed in sheets from inputting hours, to calculating pay, to calculating the federal taxes to withhold, to printing the paystubs and tracking the payroll taxes due. Google Sheets saves me the expense of Microsoft Excel and its features are just as robust and rich, and sometimes more user friendly.

Cons

I have literally nothing I don't like about Sheets. If I've ever encountered any, I don't remember them, so they must have been things that weren't so important.

Cost was the sole reason I left Excel but I also do prefer the Sheets interface, although some advanced customization features aren't the same. OpenOffice just didn't strike me as good quality. I did use OpenOffice until Sheets came out, over Excel.

### "A Powerful And Collaborative Spreadsheet Tool with Outstanding Value"

January 11, 2026

4.0

Google Sheets offers a user friendly interface that’s easy to learn for beginners That layout is clean and intuitive and common spreadsheet tasks are straightforward to perform and Formula calculations are reliable for everyday business and personal use and customer support through Googles help center and community forums is generally helpful though not always immediate. Its strongest advantage is collaboration making it ideal for teams that need to work together in real time. it may not replace high end spreadsheet software for advanced analytics it excels as a flexible, accessible and cost effective solution for most users..

Pros

Google Sheets its a collaboration and accessibility and Real time editing, comments, and suggestions make teamwork seamless especially for remote or cross functional teams that fact its cloud based and free for most users adds exceptional value for money I also appreciated the wide range of built in formulas , automatic saving and easy integration with other Google Workspace tools like Docs, Forms, and Drive.

Cons

The main drawback is its limitations with very large or complex datasets Compared to advanced spreadsheet tools performance can slow down when handling heavy formula calculations or large data volumes While templates are useful and that template library feels more basic than some competitors.

### "Time saver!"

November 17, 2025

Google sheets is very useful in the office I work in. We use it for multiple purposes, including a calendar with upcoming jobs we have scheduled and to show vacation days we have planned. It is useful for us to track jobs that are in, who is working on them, and what the status is. It helps keep our office organized and saves us a lot of time by not having to go around and ask where a job is at.

Pros

Easy to use, can access from anywhere (desktop or mobile!), good for documents that need to be edited by multiple people

I love google sheets - I use it every day. Very pleased with the product and will continue to use it. I have not had any issues with it to this point, and I have not had to call customer service a single time because the sheets is always operable.

Pros

Man, I use google sheets every day. As someone that is not that great on excel and sheets, I found sheets to be very straight forward and user friendly. With it being a free service, it is top notch for what it offers. I am able to use sheet for money tracking with my significant other, and this makes tracking our finances that much easier.

Cons

The Application on the phone is not as advanced as on the computer. Hoping the application gets updated. I think a phone friendly version could exist, it is simply like im looking at a computer and makes it difficult to accurately keep track of my daily finances

Like Excel, but don't want to pay for all that? Google gives you the free version and is full of easy to use features in a user-friendly system. Calculations and formulas are super easy and lots of built-in templates for everything.

Cons

It's not \*quite\* as robust as Excel, but it's still awesome. Sometimes it feels like "excel lite" and can seem like it can't do everything the same (but it does, mostly)

### "Easy to Use and Great for Teamwork"

May 29, 2025

4.0

Overall, my experience with Google Sheets has been good. It’s easy to use and helps me manage caregiver schedules, track client needs, and share updates with my team in real time. It’s great for staying organized and working together. However, as the company grows, it gets harder to manage everything in one sheet, and it’s not the best for handling private or complex information.

Pros

As a Customer Care Manager, the best part of Google Sheets is how it lets you collaborate in real time with your team to manage caregiver schedules, track client feedback, and update service requests instantly. You can share live sheets with coordinators, quickly spot issues like missed visits or open shifts, and ensure smooth communication without constant back-and-forth emails. It keeps everyone on the same page so you can focus more on client satisfaction and less on chasing updates.

Cons

It can become difficult to manage as things get more complex. In a caregiving company, when you're juggling dozens of caregivers, client schedules, and last-minute changes, Sheets can quickly get cluttered and hard to keep organized. It’s easy for someone to accidentally delete or change something, and it doesn’t have built-in features like alerts, task tracking, or proper user permissions that you’d get with dedicated scheduling or care management software.

### "Efficient and Collaborative Tool for Everyday Data Needs"

May 4, 2025

4.0

Overall, my experience with Google Sheets has been very positive. It’s an intuitive and reliable tool for organizing data, performing calculations, and collaborating with others in real time. I’ve used it for everything from project tracking and budgeting to data analysis and reporting. Its cloud-based nature and seamless integration with other Google Workspace tools have made it a go-to solution for both individual and team-based tasks.

Pros

I really appreciate how accessible and collaborative Google Sheets is. The ability to edit and share spreadsheets in real time with others, regardless of location, is extremely useful—especially when working on team projects. I also like that it integrates well with other Google Workspace apps and supports useful functions and add-ons that make data management more efficient.

Cons

While Google Sheets is great for basic to intermediate tasks, it can struggle with very large datasets or complex calculations compared to more powerful tools like Microsoft Excel. There are also some advanced features, like certain pivot table customizations or data visualization options, that are more limited or less intuitive in Google Sheets.
