### "Easy to use alternative to Excel"

July 29, 2022

5.0

We use it for a lot more than crunching numbers. For instance, we have 300+ items we hire out, and we use Sheets to keep track of who has them booked and when (like a Gantt chart). The fact that we can all work on this sheet simultaneously makes Sheets work when an offline version of Excel wouldn't. That said, Office 365 would allow a similar experience.

Pros

The collaboration options within a team are game changing. No more save, attach and send - everyone's aligned on the same sheet at the same time. You don't realise how much work and confusion this elimiates until you switch to it.

Cons

Its strength is its weakness. It's quite a cut down alternative to Excel, which makes it easy to use, but if you want to do something advanced or nuanced then you may find the feature you want is missing. Luckily you can export to Excel and carry on there if you want to. We very rarely have to. Collaboration also requires the other users to have Google accounts. Sometimes you just want to share with someone when you don't know if they have one or not. And they may have one, but not using the email address you assumed they did, which means they have to make an access request. It could be easier.

### "Google Sheets Is My Go To Tool For EVERYTHING"

October 25, 2022

5.0

By far the best product on the market. I use Google Sheets for EVERYTHING. From lists for work to organizing things within my personal life.

Pros

This product is seamless. Being able to live update documents with a team is a game changer. Comparing to other options on the market, this is by far the easiest to use.

Cons

I would say the only thing I would like improved on this program is the process for sharing under different accesses. If I have multiple people I only want to be able to view, and others I want to be able to edit, the process of having to invite them each individually is tasking. I love the option to share the document via a link but it doesnt allow you to change the access for different links. If you change the settings it changes them for all unless you have granted them access specifically.

Reason for choosing Google Sheets

One drive is not as seamless as Google Sheets. I had started using Google Sheets in my personal life and convinced everyone to start using Sheets over One Drive.

### "The best alternative especially is you are a casual user"

October 6, 2022

5.0

I've used for a few years to keep track of progress with clients and team members and it is fantastic. I really enjoy the fact that I can access it directly from my phone when I am out of the computer and that it works very good even on the phone. It is less comfortable but still accessible.

Pros

It is very accessible and easy to use, especially if you need to show or share your work with other members of a team. It is easy to learn and there is plenty of support around to get the hard tricks right.

Cons

I have no complaints about Google Sheets actually, I find it quite good.

Switched from

[Microsoft Excel](https://www.capterra.com/p/176574/Excel/)

I was tired of paying again and again the Microsoft suite and wanted something for a casual user that gave me similar options. I am not really sure if Sheets is as powerful as Excel to be honest because nowadays my worksheets are simple and I don't really need overly complicated formulas for my work, so for my personal use it works perfectly and I am very happy.

### "The Only Way to Spreadsheet"

December 22, 2018

5.0

Overall, I couldn't organize my office, my work, maybe my life, without Google Sheets. It is still far and away the best solution to represent the abstract, then make the abstract concrete and specific, then put data into effect. Frankly, I probably over-use Sheets sometimes - as if it were a database instead of just a spreadsheet. But it's so tempting to put every kind of information into Sheets and let the visuals inform you. I could go on, but you get the point. This is "the" Google product in my office.

Pros

Easy to use. Super-flexible. Dynamic - move rows and columns by dragging and dropping. No need to cut and paste. None of that "Insert Cut Cells" like with Excel. Of course there is amazing integration with other Google products and third-party apps. Then there is the whole "cloud" aspect, which is life-changing. Once you experience real-time collaboration from anywhere, you really can't go back. Then there are the intelligent graphs it creates from data. Information makes much more sense when represented visually, and Sheets does that instantly and effectively.

Cons

Despite its rapid improvement over the past few years, in some ways Google Sheets is still playing catch-up with Microsoft Excel. For instance, Sheets still provides no easy way for the user to drag and drop large numbers of cells. Try it and you get an awkward exercise in counting, guessing, and hoping that an action does not result in a mess. Then there are the byzantine "scripts" you have to type in to automate cells or get a desired result. I'm not a programmer. And the way in which Sheets makes the user guess whether it even has certain features at all. There are hundred "little things" like these that need improvement and could bee seen as "bugs." Or maybe Google just doesn't want to be the office standard. But I don't believe that. So yes, Sheets has a way to go, but it's on the right track.

### "The Best Online Spreadsheets App"

December 1, 2020

5.0

I saved a lot of time using Google Sheets because I use it daily and in my work, I need to copy/paste data a lot from different websites and I just open one tap and Google Chrome and It's very easy and I don't need to open any software on my PC/Laptop and slow down my computer. Google is a great company and I'm sure more features are coming in the future and I hope they can keep the great work.

Pros

I like it because It's % 100 Free app from google and it's very easy to use with a clean and useful user interface. I like how I can create many sheets in one project and use other sheets format. I can use it on any device mobile or on my PC/Laptop and I can open any file in the mobile app. I really love the sharing option because this allows me to share and collaborate with others especially my VA's and how I can control who can edit it and who can just view it and when they edit the file I can see it in real-time. Also, you can see the people working on the sheet and you can see when was the last time the file was edited and who edit it. I can edit and view sheets without installing Spreadsheets software on my PC/Laptop. It's also very safe and I feel my files are safe and this is very important because I don't use it just for personal stuff I use it for my business too. It provides a clean and easy to use workspace for me and for everyone I know and that's why a lot of people are using it around the world. I get everything in my Google Drive and all sheets are synced and up-to-date and also, I can copy/paste from Google Docs or Google Slides and vice versa.

Cons

I would love to be allowed to customize my sheets a little bit. Sometimes I can't do some things on It but, after all, it very useful. The need for an internet connection to use it sometimes can be restrictive.

### "Sheets, not the new excel, but still great for collobration"

July 22, 2020

5.0

Generally, it has been a positive experience. I like that everything is interconnected, and available wherever I am. My biggest pet peeve was getting an excel document on my Mac, and not having excel to open it with! Now, i can open anything, anywhere. Personally, i use sheets for budgeting, forms, and much more. I like that i can have two separate accounts, switch seamlessly between them, and still have everything i need at my fingertips.

Pros

The ability to have real-time back and forth while in a spreadsheet has been a sought after tool - and Sheets, thankfully, makes it pretty easy! My company is fully on the drive for email, slides, folder management, and storage, so using sheets was a no brainer. I love that I can link to other documents (great for OKRs and other larger initiatives) and I love that we can collaborate back and forth, and see who is in the document and who isn't. Version control has also been incredibly helpful when we had an accidental deletion of data. Mostly, I like that it is a quick integration with all my other tools for work, and lives in the same space.

Cons

I will say, it is a change. If you are used to excel, then there are frustrating differences. One that boggles me is the filtering capability. I feel as though it is over-engineered. I also miss some of the shortcuts I have known to love in Excel, that do not work as well in Sheets (ie: adding a simple filter). Another con would be the formulas - although I believe they have started updating this. In Excel, when you start a formula, it will give you the instructions on what next pieces to pull in - I would expect the same from Sheets, but find that at times, it is missing (meaning I head into excel to pull the process, then recreate in sheets - that is no good). There are other formatting issues that I miss from excel (ie: the ability to indent text on a specific cell) - sheets, bring that to life please!

### "You can mostly forget Microsoft Excel"

July 25, 2018

5.0

The most important benefits are collaboration, ease of use, and packed features. Google is also excellent at updating features and having a very active forum answering questions that come up.

Pros

This is an excellent replacement for Microsoft Excel (for most users, see notes in my "Cons" list for more info): For almost everything I need, Google Sheets replaces Microsoft Excel and more (meaning that it adds features beyond what Excel can accomplish). Collaboration is key: Real time collaboration is excellent in this software. My current most common use case is doing research with a real time collaborator. Both of us type into the same spreadsheet at the same time as we talk about our research subject and fill out different parts of the spreadsheet. We then leave multiple comments for our research assistant who follows through by replying back to comments, filling in more data, and leaving comments back as questions arise. Ease of use: Maybe this is more the GUI, but I feel Google Sheets is easier to use than Microsoft Excel, although both are very similar. Google keeps the option menus concise, with keeping the most used features easily accessible.

Cons

Depending on your size of spreadsheet, Google Sheets may move slowly. This started for me when I reached about 9,000 rows in one tab of one spreadsheet with multiple formulas and conditional formatting settings that are constantly running. For me, this is completely understandable being a web-based spreadsheet, and the ease of collaborating with a research assistant outweighs the spreadsheet slowing down. I am now over 13,000 rows of data and 47 columns (which is well over half of one million data points on a single page), and I still believe the collaborative functions outweigh the spreadsheet slowing down. For most users, not being a copy of Excel is fine and won't go unnoticed. For advanced users do some serious testing before completely switching over to make sure what you need is available. Check the forums (which are very active) for answers to questions too.

### "Google Sheets is highly useful and easy to use!"

April 4, 2023

5.0

Google Sheets has become a daily component within our organization. We use this to track attendance for students, organize our student growth at a variety of sites, keep track of budgets, and so many other tasks. It is easy to use and share with teammates. I cannot imagine trying to do much of what our team does without Google Sheets!

Pros

I love that it is easy to use and organize information. It is super helpful being able to share Google Sheets with teammates to collaborate together and share information. The help features are easy to use when you need support.

Cons

There really is not much we do not like about Google Sheets. There is a learning curve when setting up formulas, which is expected. However, this is well worth the time learning as it will save you time with your tasks in the long run.

### "Powerful and User-Friendly"

April 4, 2023

5.0

Google Sheets is a powerful and user-friendly spreadsheet software that has become an essential tool for businesses of all sizes. As a cloud-based application, it offers the flexibility to collaborate with others in real-time and access your data from anywhere, at any time.

Pros

Real-time collaboration: Google Sheets makes it easy to collaborate with team members and external partners in real-time. This feature is particularly useful for remote teams or teams working across different time zones.Cloud-based: With Google Sheets, your data is stored securely in the cloud, making it accessible from anywhere with an internet connection. This means that you can work on your spreadsheets from multiple devices and share them with others without having to worry about version control issues.Integration with other Google apps: Google Sheets seamlessly integrates with other Google apps, such as Google Drive and Google Docs, making it easy to manage your documents and files in one place.Free to use: Google Sheets is completely free to use, making it a great option for businesses and individuals on a tight budget.

Cons

Limited offline functionality: While Google Sheets is designed to work in the cloud, it can be challenging to use offline. If you're in a location with no internet access, you won't be able to access your spreadsheets.Limited functionality compared to desktop applications: While Google Sheets offers many powerful features, it can't compete with the full functionality of desktop spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel.

Pros

### "A free spreadsheet app with Google's intuitive user interface"

July 1, 2022

5.0

Very convenient to use especially when there is a need for collaborating with others.

Pros

The application is not intimidating unlike other similar apps with many overwhelming features and options. For a beginner who is new to spreadsheets, Google sheets is perhaps the easiest app to get started. This Google Docs family app is free to use and supports all the necessary features that the popular market leading apps have. The user interface is minimal, intuitive and easy to use. Sharing feature allows collaborating with others over the Internet and real-time editing. Features associated with collaboration includes commenting and assigning, edit history, specific cell range for specific collaborators etc. The sheets are automatically saved and the version history allows to rollback to previous versions instantly. The pivot table features are less confusing when compared to other apps. Also inserting formulas in easy with suggestions from the app itself. Another feature is the ability to links different documents. For example, data from Google sheets can be included in Google docs which gets automatically updated with any changes in the sheets. Additional features and functionalities can be added with plugins and by using Apps Script to write custom logic. Another cool feature is using Google sheets as database for static webpages. Data can be loaded from Google sheets with the help of a few JavaScript codes.

Cons

For those who are used with other popular spreadsheets applications, Google sheets may not be suitable because they might find some advanced features missing. However, Google Sheets is being updated with new features occasionally.

### "Cloud based, autosaving and access from your pocket "

July 2, 2019

4.0

Google sheets is a great way to streamline work processes (including team to-do lists) without having a license fee. The pre-made templates include budgets, schedules, team rosters and more and that's just the beginning of how powerful this free software can be.

Pros

First of all, the price point is hard to beat. Ahem, it's free with your google account if you're not in the know. It's easy to access from your google account no matter what device you're using because it's all cloud based, and if you can access Google, you can access Google Sheets. There's also an app for android and Apple that make it easy to pull up sheets in a jiffy. I can pull up a Google Sheet to-do list on my cell phone in the middle of a meeting or I can present a budget from lap top in the conference room. Because the file is cloud based, I can make edits that will appear as others are view the document as well - so everyone is up-to date all the time. Well, unless they print the file... How many times has a document been lost in the endless edit and re-email thread where the most recent edits aren't all on the same doc? Not with Google Sheets. You can even track the changes that were made. Because you set your sharing preferences, you can create view-only, comment only and shared editing documents - and you \*still\* don't have to pay a licensing fee to give other's access to the file. If you want to track individuals making edits, you can invite them by their email and require they log in. For others, anyone with the link can edit. But it all remains in the same place - cloud updated.

Cons

While Google Sheet's main competitor has advanced features that aren't yet available, it seems google is continually adding more and more tools. For a basic table however the ease and cost of Google Sheets is a fast winner. Because many people have grown up using Excel in school and beginning of their careers, there is a bit of a learning curve for some users to pick up what is and is not available in this free software, but as long as you're not doing extremely complex formulas you should be able to get everything you need in GSheets.

### "Great Alternative Free Application"

October 15, 2022

5.0

Overall, Google Sheets is a great application for basic data management. It is free and is great for collaborative works. However, the functions and features are not that vast unlike MS Excel. I will still use Google Sheets for online group works.

Pros

I really like the collaboration tools of Google Sheets. It is a great platform to work in groups. 100 people can edit the file simultaneously. Changes are made real-time and can be seen by all the editors and there is a history of changes where all the edits are documented.

Cons

When importing or exporting large spreadsheets, the software crashes. When this happens, I have to divide the workbook into smaller ones so that I can import or export them. This is a bit of a hassle so I hope Google Sheets can handle bigger files.

Pros

Cons

### "GOOGLE sheets is essential to my work day. "

March 20, 2020

Google Sheets has solved having to fax information daily instead we can just share the documents with each other my providers and me. This program has saved time money resources and Sanity. Now that people that employ me have gone in and easily learned how to view update and utilize the documents that I create for them there we are all happy with the program and it didn't take long.

Pros

Running spread sheets for what I do everyday is the only way I can accomplish the many tasks as a sole proprietor. I use sheets to track, calculate and organize many types of information the ease of sharing these documents with multiple different providers that I work for is amazing it's very comprehensive everyone can utilize the documents and share them with me in almost real-time which keeps us all moving forward in our work days. The interface with Excel allows me to go in and out of other programs and continue to work the same spreadsheet with the same outcomes eliminating confusion or Miss Communications with people that I work off-site for it's Priceless I use it everyday and all the work that I do. I process medical billing claims for Alternative Care and Behavioral Health Providers so the pass code Security on each document and to be able to share them only with the person I want them to see is essential in keeping the privacy of our clients in alignment which governmental policies. Thanks Google sheets for making my day.

Cons

I've always had a little bit of a hard time with excels formulas and it took me some time to learn them but I can pretty much use everything in Google Sheets that I can use an Excel so I don't have to change my protocols my knowledge base too much and I can still perform my job and be diapers to any software platform to present my information.

### "For the most part, an excellent platform"

June 11, 2022

5.0

I do so much with Google Sheets! I run a very large volume of payments every week through google sheets, which involves running data from a sheet filled out by other employees through an SQL script, adding this back to my google sheet, and then downloading it as a CSV to process the payment through our portal. On a daily basis, I add data from CSVs derived through SQL to Google Sheets in order to convert the data into something more legible and readable. This may involve linking it to data in other sheets through VLookups, or creating graphs of my data. I also frequently collate postcodes and locations through Google Sheets and then download the CSV and upload to My Maps in Google Maps to produce a map of pinned locations. I use Google Sheets to manage a calendar of events that are important to our company's demand. I do it to keep lists of employees, customers, bookings and more. I spend almost my entire working day on Google Sheets, working both on my own and collaboratively with my own team and teams in other countries. It's generally excellent!

Pros

The thing I like most is the fairly obvious feature - how easy it is for multiple people to edit a document simultaneously, across not only our company, but also with partners. It is fantastic how easy it is to control access to a particular sheet, and that we can integrate this with Slack to facilitate multiple access requests. There is a fantastic array of formulae and functions available within Google Sheets, improved yet further by an impressive selection of add-ons. I feel like every week I find out something new that I can do with sheets! The formulae are generally very clear and easy to understand and the Google Sheets support online helps massively if I ever have an issue. I really like the conditional formatting feature. I really like that I can download a specific tab as a CSV file. I really like being able to carry out VLookups across multiple sheets. The Concatenate function is immensely helpful. Honestly I could go on forever - Google Sheets is fantastic!

Cons

I really have very few complaints about Google Sheets. Occasionally, sheets can become slightly glitchy when I edit a formula, but it's ok. It's annoying that columns have to be in the correct order for a VLookup function to work - this really confused me for a while and continues to occasionally cause some frustrations. I would like a duplicate checker to be more easy to implement. Finally, I also find that Google Sheets glitches a lot around the 'format' section. I often have to manually change plain text to 'number', and then the settings to 'Germany' in order for the formatting to be correct when uploading details of payments stored in Google Sheets, but every single time I do this there is some form of glitch, with not all data points immediately becoming of German formatting, and then it appears to be a fairly random process of repeatedly changing the formatting to plain text and back until all of them seem to become German format (e.g. 1,00). I really don't understand what's happening so I usually have to revert to doing this manually. I would also like to be able to do a reverse concatenate/split based on the number of characters, rather than some defining character like a comma.

Google Sheets has solved this problem for me and allowed me to create a system that is tailored made to meet my exact needs. Our budgeting has also improved significantly. In the past, everything was kept track on paper with lots of missed items and deadlines. With using Google Sheets and the "shared" option, we no longer have these problems.

Pros

Google Sheets is very user friendly. I use it for a couple of activities in my classroom. My first main use is using it as a grade book. I have created different tabs for each subject area. I then went through and set up each section with each assignment that I wanted to track the data on. I used the conditional formatting feature so that everything is automatically color coded as it is entered. This allows me to instantly see which students are falling behind and which assignments are missing. I like this better than other online gradebook options, because I have complete control over everything that is set up and entered. This did take significant time to set up, but the great thing about it is that I can now copy over the same Google Sheet each year and reuse it. This has ended up saving me lots of time as I prepare progress reports and report cards as well. The other main way that I use Google Sheets is as a budgeting tool. I help organize the budget for my grade level team. We have each section of our budget prepared on a different tab. We set up columns to keep track of the expenses ahead of us and ones that have already been processed. Perhaps the best feature is that we have this as a "shared" sheet. So everyone on the team has access to the sheet and can edit it. This helps to create a level of transparency and tracking which has been very helpful for our team.

Cons

Overall, there is very little about Google Sheets that is not useful. Like similar products, there is a small learning curve depending on your experience with the product. However, any problem that I have had, I have simply searched for a YouTube video on the issue and I have easily found guidance to fix it.

### "Sheets for everybody"

Switching to Google Sheets has simplified so much my days. We now just share links and book mark them for as long as we need, which is so much more easier that keep sending files and integrating changes from one person to another. Best thing is that switching to Google Sheets won't stop you from sharing all that data with other coworkers that are not using it. First, they don't need any special software to see the files. Second, if they really don't want to use it, you can save a local version of the file in the format you want. Almost magic! I'm not planning to go back ever again!

Pros

I can apply all the knowledge I have from the previous software I was using! And it's even better: all the formulas are so much more easy to understand and it even has extra formulas that add additional functionalities. The possibility of have a single document where all my team can keep working at the same time and see all the changes in real time is just insane. It's all you knew with a twist for better. Additionally, it's all part of Google Drive so your files will be there for you, anytime, anywere. That has saved my life more times that I can count. Finally, you can save your gsheet files as any other common format that you would like, or better, you can just use the share option and send the link. No more heavy attachments, it's all in the cloud!

Cons

For very specific situations, I've found that edge case where I wanted to code a macro. It's possible but I haven't found documentation on how to do it. It's not like other competitors offer a lot of stepy-by-step documentation but they have been out there for so long that you can put together all the articles on the internet to eventually figure out how to do what you need. Secondly, it's not good to handle very large files (200k rows and up), especially if they include a formula. It sometimes blocks editing until all the changes are applied and saved to the cloud, and it's not a hardware issue--even with a gaming grade pc happens.

During the pandemic, the company could not provide Excel licenses and we had to find a way to keep doing the same work. So we switched to google sheets. It was so good that the company purchased the google suite type of account for the company.

### "An inexpensive solution that allows users to edit, view and create spreadsheets."

October 12, 2022

5.0

A simple UI that allows easy creation of spreadsheets. This tool has shown me that data reporting and database creation can be extremely easy.

Pros

I love the fact that this tool supports a variety of file types (Xlx, CSV etc). I also most enjoy the fact that users can grant their peer's access to certain documents, that can then be collaborated on at the same time. It is amazing how with all this functionality that Google docs bring, it also comes with a free price tag, making it an extremely valuable addition to anyone working with data.

Cons

It would be nice if Google Docs allowed users to install a local copy of the application. it would also be beneficial if there were more training available to users such as how to create and amend spreadsheets, as well as a guide to the different types of formulas that can be used.

Pros

The flexibility of the programming to suit the specific requirements of each document, the capability to edit formatting infinitely to improve interface, and the syncing capacity to hold dozens of files under constant revisions without faulting is a key component of our clinic's functioning ability.

Cons

Initial training for the software in a novice user can create confusion and require extra attention.

### "An amazing Cloud Based spreadsheet"

February 22, 2019

5.0

I use Google Sheets for various business functions including inventory management, budgetary analysis and various other processes. I may not be able to do as much of the 'heavy lifting' as other spreadsheets out there, but it certainly gets the job done. The best part is, it's free!

Pros

1) Accessibility: You can access Google Sheets from any device at any time and continue working on a spreadsheet. This is because Google Sheets is cloud-based and your changes are saved in real-time. 2) Adaptability: If you've used MS Excel in the past, then using Google Sheets will be a piece of cake for you. 3) Document Sharing: Google Sheets makes it possible for you to share your spreadsheet with other people so that they can review your document in real-time. 4) Sharing Security Options: Not only is the spreadsheet sharing option an amazing feature, it also allows you to apply certain restrictions to the people you share your document with. For example, you may want someone to help you compose the document. You can give that person editing rights, as opposed to the 'view only' option where he can only view your spreadsheet without editing it.

Cons

1) Internet Connectivity: Since Google Sheets is cloud-based, you're going to have to stay connected to the internet. Although you have the 'edit offline' option, you're going to have to be connected to an internet connection in case you've shared your work with someone and they are referring to it on a regular basis. 2) Confusion: There could be a lot of confusion when two people are working on the spreadsheet at the same time. However, if you're careful enough, then Google Sheets highlights the cell that each user is currently editing with different colours.
