It’s by far my most used app as all my main tools I use ever day are integrated. Pros I use Shift every day as it helps organize all my tools and keeps everything in one place - so a lot less app switching. Overall it keeps me focused and efficient. Integration is easy, just log in once and Shift always remembers which account is which. So if I have two Google Drives for example (personal and work) my work one will always be logged into my work profile and personal always logged in on my personal. No need to be logging in and out constantly. Pros the ability to have all my apps installed, logged in and open in one piece of software instead of having multiple apps open in the background slowing down my Mac. I also liked you can have multiple accounts logged into the same app and split between work/personal workspaces. So no need to be logging in and out of accounts all the time. Cons Not much in communication of what new apps/software have been added or a timeline of upcoming features. Most software has a public roadmap these days. My work as a contractor and white label, this software is essential to my productivity and staying on top of communications, calendar, etc. Pros Ease of use. Easily see multiple emails, unread email count, unified calendar, all without having multiple browsers open. Pros That I can manage all our business email account (8 accounts) from on place easily and open tabs that are connect to those gmail accounts for easier access when I need to sign in somewhere else. The application itself is very easy to install and implement on your system. Really should not take more than 10 minutes all things considered. What I like the most about Shift is the easiness in which I can add an additional email or remove one that I no longer require at the moment. With the various upgraded tiers that Shift offers it also enables the app to support a multitude of additional application (other email providers and different apps that you can all integrate within your Shift platform). Cons Shift often gets laggy when you open it first thing in the morning. The red notification with the number of new emails that it shows is also often not accurate. Sometimes when I have read all new emails, it would still display "8" or "14" or whatever number of new emails I had previously. I also think it is costly for what it provides. CTO Nanotechnology Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Very unreliable, keeps crashing and extremely POOR customer support" April 7, 2024 3.0 I have tried to use Shift on 3 different devices (1 PC and 2 Mac) and its been terrible experience. Every time I am in the middle of something or try to open a new tab the entire app would crash randomly. Specifically if I search for a document on Google Drive and open in a new tab the app would crash. It also lacks some basic features like reopening a closed tab. Their customer service would always ask you to clear all the data, restart or try a fresh install instead of actually analyzing the logs to identify what went wrong and how to fix it. I provided specific steps for them to reproduce the issue 100% of the times but very their customer support is very poor. If you are a light user it may work for you, but the main use of Shift is for power user which defeats the purpose. Back to using Chrome as my main browser. Pros conceptually, Shift is a great idea and a reimagined way to use Chrome. Cons This is easily the most overpriced, bug-riddled browser that exists. Between constant and consistent app crashes, inconsistent and poor support, and lack of any meaningful updates to the product in the past 12 months. October 31, 2019 5.0 I own a recording studio and I also run an artist management and consulting company. So I generally have a ton of emails that I have to keep up with as well as utilize a lot of applications and plugins with them like Hubspot and Grammarly and a ton of other programs like Gchat, asana, Buffer, Slack and a ton of others. So being able to see everything at a quick glace has been an enormous time-saver for me! It is something that I have up every day and is basically the core of my workflow. I've recommended it to several other people in my industry and show it off as often as I can. Now that I've joined the referral program, I'm really gonna try and show it to as many people as I can. Time is money in my line of work so I know if it is able to make me more efficient, then it can help just about any entrepreneur Pros I love that it allows me to have all of my emails and main applications that I use on a daily basis right there in one easy window where I can easily see any notifications. Giving me that quick glance of everything saves me a ton of time. I really love the all email search feature. Running a few businesses makes it hard sometimes to remember which email sent which item so that helps me track stuff down very quickly. Cons I know at least for me. Running a MacBook on 10.13.6 with great specs, it still seems to be a heavy resource hog. But I am using a ton of the applications and integrations with it. It does tend to log me out of several of my email account every few days for some reason. But I am unsure if that is a specific Shift thing or something to do with Gmail. Review Source ST Sara T. At any given moment as a small business owner who has at least 20 different things going at once Shift helps me get it done. I could go on and on about the individual uses I get out of Shift. When you run everything on your own you need all the help you can get. Pros It's all right there. No opening and accidentally closing browser tabs, no hunting down bookmarks or even wasting a few second typing the beginning of a website to get where you need to be. I manage multiple email accounts and use several different applications to communicate with clients and manage my business. Time is something I can never get more of so when it comes to tools and saving time even as a small business owner Shift is extremely valuable to me. Between the extensive collection of apps and browser extensions, everything is right at my fingertips. Just a few seconds can really add up over a day/month/year... It's worth EVERY single penny to me! Cons I don't have many complaints about Shift except the short lag getting notifications through my Gmail accounts. I like it for collecting email, Trello, and Slack into one window, but the rest of my experience has been mediocre. I thought this would eliminate my million tabs, but the integrations that sold me on the product don't function as they should, so that simply isn't the outcome I got. Support was helpful in offering for me to switch to the beta version, but I am not convinced that will solve any of these issues, and I don't have time to email back and forth with support every single time this happens. So for Shift to claim it has them and then to experience them not functioning effectively is extremely frustrating. And this is not user error. I have tried closing, quitting, and reopening the application, refreshing, logging in and out of accounts, and completely deleting and re-adding integrations. Nothing helped. I completely understand glitches now and again and understand these integrations require communication between platforms. However, the extent to which I am having issues with integrations is unreasonable. I'm specifically referring to: 1. Spotify (won't play music) 2. September 5, 2018 5.0 We originally used Shift so that we can access multiple Google accounts for our company in one program without having to switch accounts in Google Chrome. Shift did such a great job we also use it for accessing many of our web apps. This works great on a Mac as its easy to access multiple web apps with only having one window open! Pros Shift has been a great tool for accessing several of our programs and accounts! The ability to access several web apps in one portal is very efficient and makes it easy to add multiple accounts. Shift is much more than a client for Gmail. It can access a wide variety of web apps and services. Notifications are easy to see and makes it easy to swap back and forth quickly between apps. February 12, 2021 4.0 When I am using my laptop, I don't have much space to shift from different browsers. It's a high space saving tool. Pros I appreciate that I can have the feature called, "workspaces." This is a section on the side panel where you can open up or bookmark any relevant tabs according to a particular project, or "workspace." I have one workspace for all of my assistants to research. This workspace can also be shared which is awesome. Cons Some apps are not available. For instance, they don't have Kakaotalk which is a pretty popular Korean messaging app (that has a desktop function as well). Others are a latency issue when loading. The browser is running off of Chrome. And when you switch between browsers or messaging apps, there is a 1-2 second latency. The app integrations are a god send given I no longer have to keep multiple apps/windows open. Cons The one draw back that I have found is that Shift does not import bookmarks from Chrome or other browsers. I can also access Google Drive without having to switch back and forth between users and, with the fast pace of my workday, it makes a huge difference. Within hours of using it, my default behaviour for using Gmail has changed completely, and having commonly used apps in there, I am finding that I'm using it like a master control panel for my business. Pros I like the way that Shift allows me to have my 3 Gmail accounts open at the same time, and jump between them both. Although this functionality is somewhat present in a browser, working with Shift feels like the email is now anchored and it feels much nicer using it inside an app. The interface is preserved but the app allows me to move in and out of it without the risk of a closed tab. Furthermore, other apps can be added to the bottom which are sort of web-tabs, but do not require logging in. Cons Not much to dislike. Obviously put my requests in for more apps I'd like to see supported. I don't use any of the chat apps like Slack in there, as I need them in their own window while using stuff in Shift. So I didn't see too much value in having them inside shift.
