We can't find any issues while working with the os as it won't show any different than regular OS. Pros Easy to configure and install OS. Easy to import and export appliance which is saved in OVF format. A wide range of OS can be installed. Free of cost without any purchase or subscription. Cons Faced some issues with getting the installed OS into the full screen but got it working after installing additional software and doing some changes. Also the performance is slow on computer hardware few years old, as the virtualisation support is recently added in recent intel processors. But the performance and configuration issues can be ignored for the free nature of software and with the hope that future versions will offer better. Pros I find VirtualBox to be very useful to install and use various Linux distros on my windows/Mac OS laptops. Before the virtualization software improved, dual OS installation is the only option and its risky and may run into cases where we need to reformat the whole hard drive thereby end-up losing data. The completely and opensource nature of VirtualBox helps in saving money to business. With recent improvement there are many features being added to VirtualBox, shared folders and shared clipboard which greatly enhance the usability when running in emulated OS. Also since the hard drive emulation is supported in multiple formats, the hard drive files can be shared with team members. Cons The major con in my experience with VirtualBox is with the USB data transfer speed as USB 2 is not widely supported in VirtualBox. Although this can be worked around copying files to shared folder of host OS. The guest addition component installation and configuration to get full features is a pain and needs some googling. This piece of software performs well and offers me all the tools I need to setup, configure and run virtual machines. It's pretty well featured and also allows the VHDs created within this to be moved across to HyperV so you don't get locked into this specific product. Cons It can be a little complex to use especially if you're trying to move a machine without thoroughly reading the manual about that first. I use VirtualBox to develop applications on Windows or Linux using my MacBook. The virtual operating system runs in the VirtualBox window and can be made full screen. VirtualBox is a good solution when you need multiple OS on a single machine, and the price is right. Cons VirtualBox can have graphics compatibility issues during installation and may require add-on packages for the window to fill the screen. It can also be difficult to configure drag-n-drop between the VirtualBox window and the host machine's file system. The running instance can be saved as a snapshot for backup but the saved images are HUGE. MacBook Touch Bar users may have to do special configurations to get the Touch Bar for the running instance instead of the VirtualBox container. Undoubtedly, it is the best virtualization tool for less powerful hardware Cons I have presented some problems with my VDI that for no apparent reason are corrupt and can not be recovered. This is much cheaper and faster than using a completely new hardware system. Pros VirtualBox has an easy workflow to setup a virtual environment. It encapsulates each virtual machine very well and doesn't require a lot of thinking to setup. It also has built-in defaults for common configurations which allows for even quicker starts. VirtualBox is constantly being updated and the updates are pushed to the user in a very convenient manner. Cons There are certain features with VirtualBox that are difficult to setup. The networking options require some learning to get accustomed to and can be confusing to get working. There are options that allow for shared folders from host to guest machine, but the instructions for setting this up are a bit lengthy. It is also difficult to figure out how to get the shared clipboard to work between machines. Cons I wish it would support macOS guest operating systems on Windows and Linux hosts, but I think this is an intentional limitation to not allow users to break macOS's terms of use. Pros I was able to emulate most OS's fine, And use applications on them without issues mostly, is free and it does the job. Cons The site has bugs sometimes making difficult to download the software. I purchased the Windows VirtualBox license because I also wanted to run Windows on the same host system to see how it would work with this software. Pros It allows to run multiple operating systems at the same time. It is very useful when the same application has to be installed on several different operating systems. It is a general-purpose full virtualizer for hosting virtual machines with support for VMM and a range of devices. For example, I may wish to use an app but am unsure if it's legitimate or contains viruses. VirtualBox allows me to contain the app in a siloed environment that is independent from my main system for testing, keeping it away from any system files until I'm confident it won't cause issues. Because VirtualBox is independent from the main system it also allows me to run different versions of the same app without having any conflicts. Additionally, there are rare cases where I have to use Linux, and VirtualBox allows me to quickly spin a Linux environment up without having to worry about dual booting or partitioning the main hard drive. Being that VirtualBox is free software with a large following and updates, it's an essential install on any new system. Cons I haven't encountered any issues with VirtualBox, and in my opinion for most small businesses use cases it is just as good (or better) then many paid solutions. Review Source BW Ben W.
