### "VirtualBox review"

May 31, 2019

4.0

VirtualBox is great for a cross-platform, free to use virtualization product. It is fairly easy to use, and being cross-platform does allow for more flexibility. However, if you were to mainly stick to a single OS platform (linux or windows) I would personally choose those platform-specific virtualization options over VirtualBox for performance.

Pros

Cross-platform, lots of features, and fairly easy to use.

Cons

A little clunky at times, not as polished as other (paid) virtualization products (but its free to use, so not that big of a deal.)

### "Best tool for deploying and testing virtualised OS images"

September 19, 2020

5.0

Good, it is still my go-to app for virtualisation because it is simplier than VMWare and easy to use. Works good, has support for Linux.

Pros

I used it for years, for work related projects. You can set up and fire up virtual machine in minutes. Also there is a bunch of avalible images on the internet. Works with any pc or laptop that has enough ram and disk space. I did find some problems when migrating old images to new one, but there are usualy people on forums that can help you. I could say the best and cheapest software that has Oracle badge on it

Cons

Sometimes after update of virtualbox app vm would stop booting. Also it is fairly hard to create enviroment (on Windows 10 for example) to automate booting of some vm's.

Reason for choosing VirtualBox

Price, stability, simple desing and clean UI

### "Best open source virtualization software"

November 22, 2019

5.0

In general the experience is great. Never missed an option on configuration, and it runs perfectly when correctly set up.

Pros

Main one is free. Besides is one of the most complete virtualization tools on the market right now, partly thanks to it is an open source solution. Run smoothly and allows tons on configurations. I widely used VB in order to test linux distributions before deploy them on real machines and with VB is really easy simulate almost every machine scenario. I also use VB to have a standard linux "machine" to flash the microcontrollers I've on my domotic installation, and control the phisical USB ports within the virtual machine is not problem at all.

Cons

Sometimes with the linux version of VB I got issues configuring the network connection to the virtual machine due to some special requirements of my network. Besides that, it runs smoothly.

### "VirtualBox Review"

September 7, 2023

4.0

My overall experience with VirtualBox has been really great, management of instances without downtime has been one of the benefits i enjoy.

Pros

What I like the most about Virtual Box is the ability to maintain two instances of virtual machines isolated from one another, That's just the best and the configuration management of the instances is just splendid.

Cons

I think more hardware integrated with the host machine could be worked on.

### "Number one choice for personal virtualization"

May 13, 2021

5.0

I've been using VirtualBox for years as a first choice for any virtualization (mostly Linux hosts and Windows guests). It has been working mostly without issues and stable enough for some development purposes (e.g. testing applications on multiple operating systems).

Pros

It is really easy to use and available for many operating systems. It has a lot of configuration options. You can export existing images across computers and use them also on other operating systems.

Cons

Depending on what hardware are you running your host on you might have some issues with some advanced features or with compatibility. Some networking options are bit difficult to configure properly. External peripherals might not work reliably on every host/guest combination. Some advanced use-cases are not working at all, e.g. running VPN client to Windows guest on Linux host caused reboot loops on guest.

### "Ideal and most reliable virtualization tool"

September 23, 2022

5.0

Pros

The best part about this tool is that it is both free and open source. You can run multiple operating systems on your computer. Simple to set up.

Cons

In terms of disadvantages, it necessarily requires more ram and an operating system. If the ram is low, the primary or host operating system seems to become stuck.

### "Great, inexpensive virtualization for Mac OS"

February 3, 2023

4.0

Great. Its performance for the money spent has been unrivaled. If you're a hobbyist or a tinkerer like me, you can't go wrong. If you're an enterprise sysop or sysadmin, you might consider using VirtualBox with some sort of hypervisor or orchestration tool that you pay for to get the most out of Virtualbox.

Pros

It's cheap and open-source. I'm using it for local development and infosec ops. If you need a throw-away machine or you're a computer science student who's learning operating systems, it's a great tool to have installed. VDI's are pretty easy to re-install/re-hydrate too.

Cons

It's not very intuitive. You need to learn about mounts and reads on drive types before you even have a clue how to install an operating system. VDI's tend to grow larger quickly the more your boot and run your machine.

### "Simple functional OS testing environment."

January 29, 2021

5.0

I use VirtualBox for practice deployments of Linux based server software. Perfect for testing new configurations for web services.

Pros

Supports installing most operating systems in a virtual environment. Virtual network support allows for testing custom network deployments. Simulate a network deployment of client and server software. Supports snapshots allowing for rolling back changes to installed software or operating system. Test patches or software changes in a safe environment. Roll back changes in case of problems. Clone virtual machine installations allowing for multiple deployments of identical configurations. Great for a low-cost test lab. Supports USB pass-thru so you can use webcams, storage devices and security keys in your virtual environment.

Cons

Performance can be an issue if your host computer is under-powered. You will need a higher end computer to run multiple Gui based virtual machines simultaneously. Console based installations such as Linux will perform very well. Most current support is end-user based through online forums.

Reason for choosing VirtualBox

Support for USB pass-thru. Can be installed on WIndows, MacOS and Linux host systems.

### "Software testing in multiple platforms in a single computer using VirtualBox"

October 24, 2019

5.0

If you are a learner who's looking to enhance your knowledge on different operating systems, or if you are a tester who test cross platform software, you have to have Oracle VirtualBox. It's a free software with loads of functionality and also it can save a lot of money too.

Pros

What I like most about this product is that it's totally free. It allows you to run any amount of virtual machines in a single computer. Gone are the days where you have to have several partitions to run multiple operating systems. Even the setting up is much easier. It is very easy to create testing environments for all kinds of software.

Cons

Only con is that you need to have a powerful computer to run the VirtualBox as it can eat up the ram and processing power. Other than that, there are no issues with this product.

### "A mature desktop virtualization tool"

January 5, 2019

4.0

I've been using virtual machines for a decade or so - back in those times VirtualBox was already a strong player in the field. It was one of a few free options available at the moment, and I picked it because there was a big company behind it (Sun Microsystems in that time). From day zero I enjoyed VBox a lot. With rich, comfortable to read docs, and point-and-click virtualization configuration, I've had no complaints at all. Even, I've used it as a vehicle to learn about virtualization stuff. Virtual Box can cope with most of the needs an IT professional may have when it comes to desktop virtualization. Support for operating systems is broad, all at a cost of zero!.

Pros

It makes cross-platform virtualization a breeze. A fairly complete solution. No surprises.

Cons

Certain network setups are not very easy to achieve. Sometimes it demands a bit of internet research but after digging some docs, you can get the task done.

### "Free way to run virtual machines"

January 18, 2019

4.0

We use VirtualBox for testing Linux servers and environments. It's very easy to test scripts and software that requires Ubuntu. Also it's very convenient to run some light native apps that requires Windows.

Pros

\- Its's completely free solution to run virtual machines - Performance is very good. You can easily run Windows or Linux on your Mac laptop with 8gb of ram - You can natively run your Linux or Windows apps - Supports drag&drop of files into virtual machine - Supports importing of virtual machines in OVF format - You can share your files with virtual machine

Cons

\- Drag & Drop is not working stable on my build (6.0) - Sometimes scaling of virtual machine monitor wasn't working properly on Retina screen - 3D graphics emulation support is very slow, but acceptable

January 15, 2019

Pros

Really easy to set up and really easy create a new Vm with different O.S. and for different scope

Cons

Is really strange that I can't import a Vm from locally to Oracle Virtual server ... I think that is really a strange choice, I could create a Vm locally on my desktop an import it on Oracle Virtual Server because QA has give me ok for proceed ... is really strange.

### "When coupled with a powerful PC, VirtualBox delivers great performance."

July 5, 2018

5.0

Pros

What I like most about this software is the ability it gives to run various operating systems simultaneously, regardless of the operating system environment that the application is running in and definitely allows for much faster crossover between different operating systems as opposed to more manual options that are not as quick to change between such as dual booting a pc or using other VM software. This proves very useful when I am writing a report in one operating system while using another via VirtualBox to run experiments or creating and executing scripts in the VM.

Cons

While every VM I have used I do experience lag with, I will also mention this lag with VirtualBox. If VirtualBox is run on a standard or average office computer with limited memory (such as limited RAM), there almost always is a lag when performing long computations such as those that can be associated with programming in a VM. However, when these same computation or programs are run in a machine of higher performance, such as a gaming PC, there is significantly less lag. While this may sound like a computer performance issue, given my computer engineering experience, I feel that VirtualBox can definitely make software improvements to allow for smoother operation of the VM when under "heavy loads".

### "Best virtalization tool by oracle "

December 14, 2019

5.0

Mainly we use it to test on all major Operating systems as its portable to any System structure form UNIX to Windows

Pros

Due to its open source nature and ease to use this is a best tool for any one from business to normal users allows use of any OS inside Windows (mainly) which makes testing easy on other OS like Linux (all flavors)

Cons

Not much any cons about this tool but it could be built more ease to use though its good but can be improved and all connections should be automatically detected inside virtual machine such though they work doesn't feel like real OS can adopt "NEW DESKTOP"like tech and improve it.

### "VirtualBox: Multiple OS? No Problem!"

December 12, 2019

4.0

VirtualBox is an excellent alternative to dual-booting your system for the purpose of supporting multiple operating systems, owing to its hassle-free and straightforward workflow. Furthermore, with all the integrations and customized settings that it supports, VirtualBox ensures that it provides a great experience in terms of compatibility and ease of usage.

Pros

As a Computer Science student, I often have to switch between multiple operating systems, and VirtualBox makes it a breeze to do so from the comfort of a single operating system of your choice. I primarily use Windows 10, but VirtualBox allows me to use other Linux-based operating systems in an efficient manner seamlessly. VirtualBox allows you to create multiple consolidated virtual machines, which all operate independently of each other. Furthermore, it supports a wide variety of operating systems and also provides various integration options for a number of them, making your experience as integrated and hassle-free as possible.

Cons

Aside from a couple of performance-related quirks, there have been no cons I have faced so far with my experience of using VirtualBox.

### "Good, effective virtualisation for desktops"

June 22, 2018

5.0

Pros

I use VirtualBox for running development VMs on my desktop and laptop. It is a good, mostly stable product which allows multiple VMs to be run at a time. I've been using it for several versions now and the feature set has improved greatly.

Cons

Occasionally (very infrequently) it can become unstable, and it's performance isn't quite as good as VMWare.
