### "VirtualBox is great for Setting up Virtual Environments"

December 30, 2018

5.0

Overall my Experience with VirtualBox has been great. I've used it extensively for QA Testing and running a virtual webserver. Highly recommend this product to everyone.

Pros

The ability to setup multiple platforms in virtualbox is key for me to test across platforms.

Cons

I've had a few instance of vm's getting corrupt when a power outage or other issue cause the vm to just shutdown unexpectedly.

### "The Perfect virtualizatiion tool"

April 17, 2018

5.0

Virtual box has allowed me to simulate production environments when developing applications, which allowed me to make less traumatic the updating of repositories in production servers. It has also allowed me to test operating systems without the need to create partitions or format my hard drive. I recommend it to be used in areas of study and work

Pros

Multi platform. I can control it by command console I can share files between virtual machines. I can easily restore the previous state of a VM from an snapshot. Allows you to develop software, test the software, and virtualize it in an environment similar to production It is compatible with VMware virtual machines. Free Software

Cons

Memory consumption is high It does not recognize some Linux distributions when virtualizing Technical knowledge is required

### "A virtualization powerhouse"

August 10, 2023

5.0

VirtualBox is a solid tool for virtualization, allowing us to run and distribute entire Linux boxes to our students or other researchers easily.

Pros

It was effortless to set-up machines using wildly different Linux distributions and Windows versions. Seldomly crashing and able to run heavy workloads with simulated peripherals, VirtualBox is my go-to choice for virtualization.

Cons

It would be nice to be able to change all hardware parameters of the machine at runtime, though it is a rather rare requirement.

### "VirtualBox Review"

September 9, 2023

4.0

Pros

I like the simple way it works , and creates all my needed virtual machines. It is easy to setup connectivity between VMs.

Cons

Updates have been a pain since long time. Sometimes something doesn't work and sometimes I had to recreate VMs from scratch. Is good for security but still from user point of view is a problem everytime.

### "Run Multiple Operating Systems On your Computer"

March 22, 2018

5.0

Pros

It's a great way to produce a great sandbox. Very easy to manage and use multiple operating systems on one Windows platform. It's possible to visualise a range of operating systems from legacy Windows operating systems to Mac O/S. The application allows you to customise the amount of storage given to it (or dynamically update) and also the amount of RAM/CPU that you allocate to the Operating System that you launch. It enables me to test Windows applications across multiple operating systems on the same computer without having to carry about or store a variety of Windows computers. It also enables me to have a sandbox to test out and identify what changes a particular application makes on a computer before deploying it to several different machines.

Cons

There is a small learning curve, it's definitely designed with a technically minded user in mind. Once you've got familiar with it, it works pretty well. If you're not familiar with installing operating systems, you might need to get a colleague to help you.

### "Get up and running with local VMs, fast"

August 8, 2019

5.0

Pros

It's very easy to get up and running with just about any supported OS image. You don't have to be an IT expert or software developer to get it working!

Cons

The free product is understandably lacking in more advanced features. If you need to do anything more complex than run a fairly straightforward VM on a local machine, you'll have to pay.

### "Great product to use for a VM"

April 17, 2020

5.0

We use VirtualBox to access our local development environments, and other than a few minor bugs, it works like a charm.

Pros

I've used VirtualBox every day since I started, and it's been a wonderful tool to use when I'm working off-site and want to access my local dev environment. It was pretty easy to set up once you read the documentation.

Cons

We have run into system conflicts when a new release comes out. Usually my IT team fixes it, but every now and then VirtualBox will stop working once a new version is installed.

### "Your virtual machine in a box!"

July 7, 2022

Pros

Just install your favorite virtual machine and run it out of the box! I use it to run programs that do not work with my operating system and am happy about the ease of function

Cons

Sometimes the performance could be better.

### "Compress and Continue!"

December 5, 2019

5.0

Easy interface, big buttons, makes it easy for the customers we use this product for to interact with and run their legacy operating system software.

Pros

The Beauty of Virtual box, in our experience is that when a old slow machine needs to continue life, but it is not cost effective to repair, (such as an old XP unit) that runs mission critical software, you can Compress the drive to a Virtual machine, and utilize that machine on a much faster efficient system that will allow for many more years of use.

Cons

VirtualBox lacks a few features that many of its competitors consistently keep up with, such as legacy support for Windows 9x products, that believe it or not a lot of businesses still run software from.

### "VirtualBox as a tool to model configurations on virtual servers"

April 25, 2022

4.0

Virtualbox allows us to simulate environments using virtualization in a practical way, accelerating implementations and configurations in services

Pros

It is cross-platform, which allows easy installation on different operating systems.

Cons

In some occasions it is necessary to have hardware that supports virtualization

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing VirtualBox

The economic cost was higher, which does not allow all team members to use it

### "Overall A Solid Tool"

November 8, 2019

4.0

I think that this tool has a lot of benefits and it does work pretty well. It is great if you are intending to have several types of virtual machines on your computer at the same time. If you are only trying to put Windows on a non-Windows computer, I would recommend just downloading the Windows for \[Mac\] or whatever type of operating system you work with.

Pros

I've been using VirtualBox for a while, mainly for school assignments. It is a great way to get another operating system on your computer without needing to make the operating system take over your entire computer. I also like that you can have more than one virtual machine on there so you can switch off.

Cons

Sometimes it ran a bit slowly. Also, it is definitely not the same quality as having another operating system on your computer. For instance, I use Mac and I wanted to use Windows as well. Downloading Windows for Mac is easier and runs smoother than using Windows via VirtualBox.

### "Great virtualization app for home use"

February 6, 2018

5.0

I can create virtual machine and use them as a test environment on my laptop

Pros

First, you just cannot beat the price as it's free. than it supports multiple OS as clients. It's very stable and easy to use.

Cons

I would like VirtualBox to have some powershell integration as I'm mostly Windows guy, but as it's Oracle, this can hardly be implemented

### "VirtualBox haveve been anytime I am running silmutaneous operating systems on a single pc"

May 3, 2018

4.0

I have been able to run multiple operating systems silmutaneously on the same pc. When using virtualbox I do not have to reboot my pc to start another virtual machine installed in VirtualBox.

Pros

I have been able to run several linux distributions, mobile operating systems and previous windows operating systems from my single windows pc. What I like most is that I can save the state of my machines created in virtual box as well as I do not have to reboot my pc to boot into another operating system installed in VirtualBox.

Cons

VirtualBox requires a substantial amount of diskpace in your hard disk and at the same time running multiple operating systems silmutaneously slows my computer down.

### "If you need windows but use Linux"

July 22, 2021

5.0

Pros

USB support is so important. I have to be able to scan negatives.

Cons

Making sure the PC was capable of running a virtual machine .

Reason for choosing VirtualBox

In Linux, virtual box 6.1 is free. My scanner and printer run in windows 10. My core I5 PC is obsolete as far as Microsoft says so. Well, maybe I don't want windows 11 anyway.

### "Virtual Hardware Saver"

June 29, 2022

5.0

My biggest use case is to have a backup copy of a system that I am working to replace. Once the newer system has become well established and it is clear there is no need for information from the previous hardware I can clear out the old virtual machine. This doesn't support every use case when there was legacy hardware that was used for physical I/O as the host system would need the same I/O. Drivers don't carry over in those instances.

Pros

There is a wide array of virtual hardware supported in VirtualBox. This makes it very easy to have backup copies of archaic hardware that is no longer available but the software on them is still needed. The virtualization is fairly seamless for occasional use.

Cons

There isn't much to not like about this software. The number of prompts when installing a new version and the 'extra' packages for USB support can be tiresome when it could just as well be automatic, but that is a minor issue.

Reason for choosing VirtualBox

Support for use in a Windows host. Ease of use for setup of a VM using the GUI. Container format used by VirtualBox was a bit more portable.

### "try a new OS for free"

January 8, 2019

4.0

i use it day-to-day, for minimal browser testing, and it is reliable as long as your host machine can run the OS. i won't recommend it for graphics or memory intensive apps.

Pros

there's alot of OSes supported: windows, linux, possibly Mac OS X (with a few quirks). I use this to test websites and some applications on different versions of browsers and OS in one machine. variety of settings for hard drive and machine options. x86 based PCs emulation. if the OS runs on x86, then you should be able to run it on VirtualBox. constant updates

Cons

unable to emulate other processors/machines, like ARM-based machines like raspberry PIs or Arduinos and the like. not a deal breaker though.

### "Solid product. Takes some practice. Updates may break it."

September 6, 2019

5.0

Overall experience is excellent. VirtualBox is a great all-but-free option for recreating your server environment locally as a testbed.

Pros

Value for the money! Easy to install, can run a virtual instance of most major operating systems. Variety of options to handle peripherals and networking. API allows interaction with other build products (Vagrant, Terraform, Puppet), which is great for keeping images current.

Cons

Updates will occasionally (2-3x per year) break either filesharing or networking capabilities on your existing virtual boxes. The fix is to roll back to the previous version and wait about a week until they fix it.

Reason for choosing VirtualBox

Cost of Implementation, and ability to use on a local workstation.

### "The best virtualization software"

April 4, 2018

5.0

Pros

VirtualBox generates the best virtual machines for all operating systems. It is excellent to create virtualized development environments with Ubuntu Server.

Cons

In my opinion it does not have any negative point, however for its use it requires a computer with a good processor and enough RAM.
