Pros: Way less expensive than using a higher version of VMWare. Veeam Backup and Restore handles the backup and replication jobs for our small host center with ~35 servers. The setup is pretty easy and the management is not too time consuming. Setting up the software and configuring servers took us under a day. Setting up a new backup job takes about 5 minutes. We spend less than 30 minutes a week managing our backup and replication plans. The price was great - we're getting good value.

Cons: With the version that we use, fail over requires human intervention. Because we run all applications load balanced or clustered, a single failure is not much of an event because we have zero downtime. Migration is not super fast and you're best served with a 10Gbe network. She's a bit slow on single gigabit connection.

I gave customer service only 1 star because we usually can figure out even the most serious technical issue before Veeam can do so. It seems like their first line of support is staffed by the lowest-cost tier of tech (they cannot do much - or at least it seems that way). Support can be slow in following-up to an issue, but, they try hard and always come back with answers (again, usually much too late). We end up canceling most support tickets because we find our own solution.

Overall: I get to sleep at night and I feel good when I go out of town now. All because I know that we have a full-proof backup and recovery plan.

Pros: I use Veeam to backup Microsoft SQL databases. This product is very efficient at backing up databases and runs full backups that would normally take hours with native SQL backup down to under an hour to run by taking snapshots. Log backups happen at specified intervals as well. Everything to backup all databases on all instances of a server is taken care of in one Veeam job. The best part of using Veeam to do the backups, is doing a restore. Restores are very simple because you do not have to worry about getting the last full, differential, and log backups up until the moment that you need to restore to. Veeam takes care of all of that for you. Just select the time you want to do the restore and it pulls together all the snapshots required for the restore. I have frequently preformed a restore on a database from the log backup that just happened minutes before. I can get just a version of the database for testing that is only minutes old without having to do a backup first. I would hate to have to go back to native SQL backups after I have been spoiled by Veeam.

Cons: If you have a problem with the backup, Veeam is very responsive to the ticket, but they might point you towards Microsoft support as well. It's a bit harder to troubleshoot when you have to go between Veeam and Microsoft to find a solution. Microsoft doesn't want to support third party backups, so it could be harder to find a resolution to a difficult issue.

Overall: SQL Backups are much faster and easier!

Pros: As with anything, there's a bit of a learning curve depending on the complexity of your environment, what you're backing up, how, to where, and over what infrastructure. However, if you either built your environment or have worked with it enough to know exactly how it's laid out, the initial configuration is pretty straight forward. The thing I love most about Veeam is that once you have it set up correctly and it's working as expected, you pretty much never have to touch it again. Old restore points will roll off so you can project storage usage, that sort of thing. And if Veeam ever "breaks" it's almost guaranteed to be because something in your environment changed that broke it, not Veeam itself. I have used Veeam for years now and would never consider another backup solution for critical business and accounting data.

Cons: Cost. If I had to come up with a con it would be the cost. Veeam isn't cheap. But then again, I think the stats are something like 40% of businesses who lose most or all of their data are out of business in less than a year. Compare the cost of Veeam to the cost of losing your companies data and it won't seem that expensive. That's how you need to be thinking about it, in which case Veeam is a no-brainer.

Overall: The assurance that the possibility of a total loss of my data is as close to zero as it can be.

Pros: Veeam is a best solution for your virtual infrastructure. Veeam is not only backup solution. As named Veeam it is also replication solution. GUI, backup/replication job settings are very easy to configure. You can restore your application items such as Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Exchange, Oracle, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Active Directory instead of restoring entire virtual machines. There is also Instant Recovery feature. It allows to restore directly from backup repository. Once you access the your VM with instant recovery feature you can Migrate your VM into the production.

Cons: Veeam works very stable and there is no complain about it. Veeam now supports physical machines and you can protect your both physical and virtual environment with Veeam.

Pros: We have used Veeam for the following: VMWare recovery, file level recovery, integration with Amazon Glacier Backup and even have tried their SQL table level recovery feature. All of it is very easy to use. The interface and reporting are extremely helpful. Their support is stellar and the product is very affordable. I would highly recommend Veeam to companies my size (about 25 people). I'm sure it's great for larger too, I just can't speak for them.

Cons: The menus can be a little difficult in navigating at first, but you get used to them over time. Also, noticed we can't restore a VM backup to a free version of ESXi but not sure if that's on their end of ESXis.

Overall: It's an easy to use, effective and pretty feature-rich application for managing backups on VMWare servers.

Pros: Set it up and forget it. This is my least fussy software package. You set it up once and it just works. It has excellent compression and the encryption is handy too. This software comes with features for reducing the load on your WAN links between sites which is great for those branch offices that have local fileshares that need to be backed up. The integration with vmware is tight. Snapshots are created changes backed up and then they are reintegrated quickly causing little overhead to the storage array during and after backups. It just works!

Cons: I have had issues getting my tape backups to work properly as such we have moved to a cloud based backup provider instead of tapes.

Overall: Reliable backups done Right

Pros: This allows you to make a direct backup of the VMWare store without altering or harming the file system. Many admins will tell you how useful this is to have a "bare metal" backup of the VMs. It also automates the backup process based on a schedule that you define.

Cons: Sometimes it just fails to run properly, but the notifications are not easy to configure so it can be awhile between failure and realization that it is failing unless you are paying close attention.

Overall: We used this on a VMWare cluster to make sure we were getting full daily backups of the VM images. We manage a lot of servers, so having the notification issues caused a bit of a panic and some additional work on our part to make sure backups were succeeding.

Pros: Its very easy to deploy, use and manage, great deduplication and compression, support staff are knowledgeable and quick to respond to any issues/questions. Restore a single file in minutes or a complete virtual machine.

Cons: There is nothing I don't like. If I have to come up with one is the cost, its not cheap but then you get what you pay for.

Overall: I have installed and supported Veeam for several years as an IT consultant for hundreds of companies. Now as an IT Manager I still use Veeam. Its easy, hassle free solution for backup and replication.

Pros: The best thing about Veeam is how easy is to use use. It simplifies what has generally been a complex "dance" into something easy.

Cons: Veeam is an amazing piece of software. It has made my job easier and given me a piece of mind knowing I can restore data in a quick moment. If I had to pick something I like the least, I would have to say it would be the heavy cpu and memory usage. But, considering what the software is doing, this usage is very expected and understandable.

Overall: Piece of mind. Ease of use.

Pros: The interface is intuitive and well laid out, everything is explained well and the help resources are second to none. Support is great and very responsive. The minimal issues we've had have been resolved very quickly usually on the first contact.

Cons: The only dislike I have is the way licensing is handled, their licensing portal could use some work as keys and downloads are kind of a pain to get to.

Pros: Its ease of use was the best point of the product. Being able to easily create jobs to backup virtual machines on a schedule made this a valuable product for our organization. The instant VM recovery gives us the ability to recovery from a virtual machine failure quickly. The ability to synchronize to our Data domains for DR was also a valuable tool in our disaster recovery plan.

Cons: The only issue i have is that the software requires an installation of x64 bit to be installed on the client server. Without it you are unable to restore mailboxes and create PST files.

Overall: Allows us to easily backup our virtual machine infrastructure quickly and easily.

Allows for quick recovery in case of server failure.

Pros: This program is really simple to use

It backs up VMware virtual machines

There is also a free version to start with

Cons: There is a Windows backup client that can be integrated to Veeam Backup&Replication, so you can manage both physical machine and virtual machine backups on the same console, but that product is subscription based, so you can't buy perpetual licenses.

Overall: I'm able to backup all virtual servers in the organizations.

Pros: Veeam has worked very well for our organization, backing up both physical and virtual servers on a daily basis. The interface is easy to navigate and view how the backups are performing. When the time comes to restoring files that users inadvertently deleted, it is a quick and easy process to get it done.

Cons: There isn't any glaring issue with this software product. There was some fine tuning required to get all the backups working at the beginning, but I'd guess that's the same with any product out there.

Pros: the integration with the NetApp Snapshots, which I normally use to quick restore resources and use the disaster recovery option that veeam offers.

Pros: Setup and configuration is straight forward. Under 15 minutes. The GUI is very intuitive and easy to use. You can setup a backup job in under 5 minutes. The restore wizard makes doing a file level or a whole virtual machine restore a breeze. The same thing can be said for the replication aspect, basically, point and click.

Cons: For you replications, you will need an adequate amount of bandwidth (5Mbs min) else your replication job might run longer than you expect it to.

Overall: Piece of mind that my virtual machine infrastructure is protected and that I can recover in a short period of time from doing a restore. Very useful if you had a ransom ware infection.

Pros: The software itself is very easy to use. Also, if you need it to work with some special software or hardware, there is a good chance that Veeam already has a partnership with that provider and you can easily get it to work with that solution.

Pros: Very, very easy to set-up. Instead of doing a lot of "manual" mapping, once installed just enter the replication wizard, select the VM's and data to replicate......tell it where to store it and it does all of the work "intelligently"! I've used SEVERAL different back-up or replication sources, especially for cloud/hybrid environments and this is a must have for IT Professional who wants to be assured that they are covered in the event of an outage.

Cons: I really wouldn't call it a "con" because so far I really haven't had an "issues" per-se but as we were evaluating a handful of other offerings from other vendors we seemed to have been bombarded constantly via email and phone. But it was worth it because we ended up choosing VEEAM because of vast objects it replicates and friendly interface.

Pros: Veeam is the best of the best when it come to backup and disaster recovery. I've been lucky enough to try a lot of different backup solutions, and in the end it's hard to beat Veeams usability, reliability, and flexibility.

Cons: Of course you get what you pay for, so Veeam is certainly on the higher end of the spectrum for cost. I think VB&R's biggest flaw right now is cloud backup. It's not natively integrated and you have to go through a third-party cloud provider, which adds even more cost.

Pros: The software is easy to use, easy to integrate, and easy to manage. Pushing out an agent to a new server takes minutes and it is ready to go each night without me having to worry about it. Overall one of the best backup solutions, it's very versatile, and also Veeam Explorer is great, we were able to restore for eaxmple only certain AD objects, or Exchange items.. very very good piece of software!

Cons: Takes a little getting used to the configuration of the retention policy, must be very careful with storage usage.

Pros: VeeAm specializes in backing up virtual systems, and it does so very well. If a system goes down, it's probably the fastest in getting back up virtually. The GUI is very easy to use, and easy to explain to our technicians. We definitely like the software itself.

Cons: Basically it just ended up costing too much, and we found the same type of functionality elsewhere. The other piece is that under default settings it can really slow down a server. You need to make sure you throttle it. Not really a con, but it would be nice if throttling was the default.

Pros: Used a trial version of Veeam Backup. The application just work and gives your no trouble whatsoever.

Cons: It works as good as any of the other applications with the same functionality. I had a couple of issues when restoring a VM.

Overall: Try this app if you have your virtualized environment

Pros: After a failure of our email server, we were able to get up and running in just a few clicks using Veeam. Saved many times it's cost in lost data.

Cons: Initial configuration was a bit rough for someone not trained in Veeam specifically. Some bottlenecks weren't well explained, though the issues were eventually solved.

Overall: When contacting support, they suggested I was just "chasing higher performance numbers for no real gain". While I was able to find the issue after a few weeks without their assistance, the attitude struck me the wrong way.

Pros: excellent solution to be able to have the data with excellent granularity, reducing the RTO and RPO by combining them in an RTPO concept

Cons: In order to have the WAN optimization feature, it is necessary to buy the enterprise plus license because the enterprise license is not enabled

Pros: Making backups and restoring complete VM's and virtual machine data is very easy. Also love the fact that you can now easily restore active directory objects.

Cons: The way the licensing model works per cpu socket can get very expensive when customers have a large number of hosts

Pros: File servers protection for on-premise and cloud. Data deduplication across all your data and granular recovery of applications.

Cons: Very good product but I think the price is too high and technical support is too low. Technical error reports are carried out for a very long time

Pros: We use it mainly to backup the mailboxes in office 365. It works very well, it is very easy to recover a mailbox or a particular mail

Cons: Licensing for shared mailboxes, resources (such as conference rooms) and online archives is not clear.

Simple to learn and use, but powerful and thorough backup and replication software.

Pros: My manager introduced me to this software by putting me in front of it and walking away. Within minutes i was starting my own backup jobs and editing ones previously created. I found the interface intuitive and flowed well, and left a good impression afterwards.

Cons: I have not yet found anything i did not like about the backup interface that i have worked on. I have found the online training to be challenging, sometimes to the point of being unnecessarily so, and have heard co-workers commenting on same.

Overall: Fast adoption and ability to backup directly to a cloud provider of our choice.

Pros: The move to Veeam from another long time backup product has truly been a great choice. In the world of IT today with most infrastructures being 80% virtual machine based Veeam has truly made backups much easier and makes me feel better as an IT Manager knowing I can restore any machine I need to in a timely fasion. Setup was straight forward and easy to deploy.

Cons: The one thing that always held me back was the lack of a Windows Client for backup but they now have one!

Pros: The ease of use stands out as the first thing you notice when working with Veeam. The features allow for HA systems to experience very little downtime in case of emergency. Being able to restore individual files from a backup is incredibly useful. Other solutions force you to restore the entire VM even if you only need one or two files. Veeam streamlines the entire replication process.

Cons: I have not experienced any problems or run into any features that I disliked.

Overall: virtual and physical server replication/backups.

Pros: The ability to perform a restore of an entire VM server or simply restore a single file or folder from within a server makes the tasks of restoring lost or corrupt files, folders, or servers immensely easy.

Cons: It is not a simple setup. The initial setup of the VEEAM Backup and Replication system can take several hours of setup and preparation and in many ways can be difficult without proper guidance.

Pros: I like that Veeam works very well and is very straightforward to install and configure. Doesn't seem too resource intensive.

Cons: I dislike that in the free version you can only store the backups in Veeam's proprietary backup storage file format.

Overall: backup solution
