Whenever using it I always wish I was using Excel. This could be because I was bought up on Excel but it just seems more intuitive and user friendly than Numbers to me. Numbers does do what Excel does and if you have to use it or have always used it I can understand if it is your preferred choice. Pros Numbers does do what Excel does. In that respect it is a useful program. It seems to have all the same features and can calculate formula's and organise data. It also comes free with the Apple suite when we purchased our I- Macs. Personally though I would always choose to use Excel over it if able. There is a desktop which is not linked to our Microsoft 365 account. When using this computer I have to use Numbers instead of Excel. Personally, I struggle with this program. I find it harder to use than Excel. The way the page is laid out (a finite grid instead of an infinite grid) seems strange to me. Having the status bar with the equation written when clicking into a cell is something I take for granted when using Excel but you realise how essential this is when you begin to use numbers and it is not there. Maybe there are ways to make numbers more personalised and therefore user friendly to myself but I have not spent the time to explore it when Excel is exactly set up with no editing. Cons I find Numbers complicated. Creating documents on there takes me longer than using Excel and I have not had the time to explore it fully when i know I usually have access to a program which I consider superior. Instead of multiple ribbons, and nested menus, you have a much simpler, easier to understand and learn user interface. Yes, some functionality is missing, but for the most part, there are workarounds, or they are features you won't likely need. Numbers even does some things that Excel doesn't do, as it knows that non-number-crunchers use spreadsheets for text charts, presentations, and other things that aren't necessarily about numeric data. What's weird is that Excel has taken out some nice features that Numbers has kept! For example, I used to build a formula such as SUM, but typing = into a cell, then typing SUM( and clicking on each of the cells I wanted to add, and Excel would automatically put a + between each cell. Numbers still does this, but Excel now makes me type the + sign. I like how Numbers lets me have multiple tables on a sheet, and still lets me have multiple sheets. It works the way my brain works, instead of forcing my brain to think the way it wants me to. Pros Numbers takes the most important basic features for creating and managing spreadsheets, deletes all of the really high-end, deep accounting stuff, and makes a spreadsheet app that will make 90% of users happy. It just works, and features all of the simplicity you expect from an Apple product, while still allowing some powerful features. Cons If Apple would just add the "Repeat" feature, Numbers would be perfect. In Excel, one feature I often use is the ability to repeat a command: I modify one cell a certain way, then select a bunch of other cells and select "Repeat" from the Edit menu. Numbers cannot do this. Numbers also does not support a lot of the high-end features that serious number-crunchers expect: Macros, pivot tables, many of the more powerful statistical and mathematical formulas, etc. Those are features that I rarely, if ever need, so I'm OK with it. I still have and use Excel, so when I need those features, or someone sends me an Excel spreadsheet that uses them, I can still access those files. I think it's really useful foe simple daily type of documents; e.g. simple accounting tables, product lists, feature tables...As it's saved to cloud, as long as you have connection, you can continue from where you've left. Cons If you're using mobile app; I don't think the interface is good enough. Many functions such as hiding columns, removing duplicates or selective highlighting are limited for iPhone or iPad versions. Another issue is that low compatibility with excel files or previous version of numbers files. Especially, if you try to import complex excel files, then definitely you'll have an issue. Another issue is that if you don't have high speed internet connection, it can take some time to import files from cloud. Last of all, I personally find it difficult to work on iPad or iPhone screen.
