### "Helpful with reports"

December 11, 2021

4.0

It's self-sufficient and it works when you're creating reports, but it has fewer functions compared to MS Excel and Google Spreadsheet.

Pros

Personally, it's more user-friendly compared to MS Excel. Without using any formula, you can set up the data of each cell to be a checkbox, a star rating, slider, stepper, or a pop-up menu. I think that's very convenient. Also, the reports, tables, and charts look neater compared to MS Excel and Google Spreadsheet because it allows you to add & remove, and move objects easily. When the program detects that you're writing a formula, I love that it automatically gives you a quick list of all formulae and their uses or explanation on the sidebar. They also have nice looking preformatted tables, and a wide range of templates for calendars, checklists, reports, and the like.

Cons

There are missing features like 'removing duplicates' on a given data or report. There are also formulae in Google Spreadsheet and MS Excel that are not supported in Numbers so you'd have to be more innovative. When it comes to sharing files, Numbers don't usually open seamlessly or don't open at all in MS Excel, and given that more people are familiar with MS Excel, sharing files tend to be a little time-consuming because you'd have to convert them.

### "Designer friendly spreadsheets!"

August 15, 2019

5.0

Whenever I or my team needs to create spreadsheets, I always see the look on my teams face, but then I show them Numbers! Every person I've shown Apple Numbers to has had their perception changed after a few minutes going through the software. Its incredibly easy to create beautiful, creative, and informative spreadsheets.

Pros

Absolutely everything! I never thought spreadsheets could be a thing of beauty, but Apple Numbers changed my mind. Great, intuitive and aesthetically pleasing User Interface, with awesome export functions and compatibility.

Cons

I would like it to be expanded for mobile platforms (iPhone & iPad)

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Numbers

Deeper design options. Ease of use. Apple ecosystem. Better User Interface than Google Sheets. iCloud compatibility. Apple Handoff compatibility. More intuitive for Creative individuals.

### "Numbers just isn't up to Excel or even Google Sheets"

June 17, 2021

3.0

Numbers is getting used less and less by our team because we find the more substantial feature set of Google Sheets to be attractive, even as we prefer to use Apple products. The sharing capability is pretty week, with loading time issues and strange error messages coming up even when we know that shares are in place to allow a user to edit a spreadsheet. Transferring sheets from Google or Excel is also a problem, while they export into one another with no issues. It feels like Numbers is the neglected stepchild of the suite, as Pages and Keynote are far better replacements for similar MS and Google products.

Pros

Numbers is part of the Apple ecosystem, which we use for our business, so the fact that it uses traditional Apple standards is attractive for our company.

Cons

Numbers fails to have the feature-functionality, the plugins, and templates so widely available for Excel and even Google Sheets.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Numbers

Because of the Apple brand. But Numbers is a letdown.

Because I don't like Microsoft products, although I will admit that Excel is their best one.

### "The spreadsheet for the rest of us"

June 21, 2022

5.0

Numbers is the spreadsheet for the rest of us. It makes working with data easy and helps organise spreadsheets in a more understandable manner than for example Excel. Numbers has superior control over the typography, visuals and structures than any other spreadsheet I have used.

Pros

I like the beautiful and consistent user interface. It is easy to use and modify to meet any needs from crunching numbers to building stunning visualisations. Numbers has a clever way of using spreadsheets on workbooks: you can have multiple separate spreadsheets under one tab, which makes it much easier to organise data compared with any other spreadsheets.

Cons

There is nothing I don't like in numbers. It has steadily been improving over the years and adding new features without making the UI too convoluted.

### "Excel VS Numbers"

August 28, 2018

3.0

Pros

1/ Only pros I can think of is that it is an inbuilt and a free software which comes with Apple Mac book 2/ It allows you to save file in any format you want excel pdf etc so that the person opening it on windows will also not have any issues. 3/ Saves you a little money in case you don't wanna buy MS Office for your new Mac Book. Does the job whats needed but to get a Hand on it and to be as good on it as you are on excel takes a lot of time. 4/ So far Numbers have not been able to take over excel / office products hence not many people are familiar with the platform.

Cons

1/ Less features than MS Excel 2/ Less user friendly than MS Excel 3/ Less shortcuts as compared to MS Excel 4/ Saves automatically in numbers extension and doesn't open on window's OS which has MS Office running in it. 5/ As of now 90% of the corporate sector uses MS Excel hence working in Numbers creates a lot of difficulties for ourself and for the end user.

### "Numbers works, but feels inefficient compared to the competition"

April 9, 2022

4.0

It’s useable, but unfortunately it won’t be my long term choice due to the greater flexibility of the alternatives.

Pros

Numbers has a great look and feel, just like most things Apple. It displays beautifully, and being able to place multiple spreadsheets side by side or wherever you like is really nice both visually and productively. It can do a few things other apps can’t, when it comes to filtering or displaying charts, and especially when integrating with other apps, like live updating charts in Keynote with data from a Numbers document. It’s also robust and handles large documents well from my experience, though I haven’t dealt with massive files yet.

Cons

It lacks some of the features of Excel or even Google Sheets, and just feels clunkier to use at times. I have to use multiple keystrokes or even go to my mouse to do things that take only a single tab or enter keystroke on the other apps, and some things don’t appear to be possible at all.

### "Visually Striking - distinguished from Excel"

October 23, 2018

5.0

Overall, Numbers is a better spreadsheet program. The distinction of sheets with individual tables contained within and control over the design of those tables makes it much easier to create good-looking spreadsheets. You actually put something togheter from a design standpoint, rather than being the victim of an interface. There are a few specific features of Excel (pivot tables, VB scripting) that you don't get here, but for most users you'll end up with something that's much more visually striking and human readable.

Pros

There's no way to talk about Numbers without mentioning Excel. And visually, Numbers is better. There's a much finer control over every single visual aspect of how your spreadsheet appears - from colors, borders, spacing, everything. Excel is UGLY and there is no getting around it. For aesthetically pleasing work, Numbers is a clear alternative.

Cons

NO PIVOT TABLES! This is a feature from Excel that is missing. No Visual Basic scripting that you'll see in Excel to give your sheets more interactive elements.

It has been very effective in my day to day activities such as; tracking of my budget, working and it's a faster and simple way of creating spreadsheets.

Pros

It has many pre-packaged templates that are easily adjustable, and I can easily access on any device using iCloud. It also integrates easily with other Apples devices for example, If I want to move from Mac to IPhone it is very swift and secure as long as my documents are saved to iCloud.

Cons

It is limited to only Apple users and has limited options compared to other programs.

### "The 'best' spreadsheet --- most of the time."

July 30, 2018

4.0

Pros

You can't discuss spreadsheets without reference to Excel -- the leading product and the best thing Microsoft ever created. Numbers is not to be compared with Excel -- if you are a power user! Excel has too many features and functions. But, 'for light use' Numbers is terrific. Easy to use, lighter and faster and 'prettier' than excel. I do simple reports every week and I do them in Numbers because I can get a better-looking result, faster. ALso, number has that cool sliding cell format... so you can have some analysis complete but leave a slider (not a value) for one of the parameters and quickly demonstrate its effect on the final result. Really, all spreadsheeets should have this.

Cons

It just lacks the scale a power to do 'major' analysis. There are so many features in excel like vlookups, pivot, etc. that are not included. It's a spreadsheet for 90% of your use cases. Not all of them.

### "Numbers is a good substitute for excel with all of the functions I require"

August 1, 2018

5.0

It allows me to use spreadsheets on the go with my phone. It is free to download as well. It has all of the functions I need to finish my day to day tasks at work.

Pros

I like numbers sleek look and how it compliments the Apple OS. I use a MacBook air primarily at work and at home when needed for spreadsheets. It has the functions and formulas I require to run my spreadsheets, as well as the editing functions to make the excel file uniform and presentable. It is free on my Apple Iphone, which is great. It has a professional look and I can convert files to Microsoft excel as well if needed, and PDF too. Overall, this meets my day to day needs for running spreadsheets at work.

Cons

I am more used to using excel, and its advanced functions. This is a basic spreadsheet that can get the job done on a basic level. No issues with that. But if you need something more advanced to run pivot tables, v lookups, etc, look no further than excel.

### "For Apple User Numbers for others Excel"

August 7, 2019

Since it is a free and pre-installed software for Apple, Preferred to use in Apple products. Works with most of daily works.

Pros

It is a free software that comes with all the apple products. It's very cost effective suitable to use the same. It has many functions we can create spreadsheets, charts, graphs and many more. Look and feel is different than windows excel but in a positive way.

Cons

It misses many features comparing to excel. Macros use and formula application is not present and not compatible. Few of excel formats are not supported by it due to which working on two different product is difficult.

### "If You're a Fan of Organizing Information, Get This"

January 28, 2019

5.0

It's really helped me with my organizational process and getting goals set. It's helped me see the goals I have and achieve them.

Pros

I am a Mac user who uses all of the iWork software suite. I love the way Numbers makes it easier to create multiple tables on one page and its constantly evolving the suites and the templates regularly. I am a maker of lists and goal sheets for important project milestones that keep me motivated. It helps me catalog all the creative projects that I have, from a complete music catalog, to a goal of how much money to raise for a certain cause. The different and colorful types of graphs are also useful for business presentations. The program also makes it easy to share your documents within the iWork community.

Cons

When the documents get big, it can slow the program down, but I have some really far-reaching goals, so it makes sense that the program would be a little slow to that.

### "Numbers for Everyday Use "

July 28, 2019

5.0

As I've been using Numbers more and more frequently, I find myself liking the simple design that is cohesive with Pages and some of the other software I'm currently using.

Pros

I find Numbers easy to use on a Mac device and easy to open documents that were developed in Excel or Google Spreadsheets. I like the user-friendly interface and the ability to modify documents as needed. It is easy to adapt the Numbers spreadsheets and the data-entry process is intuitive.

Cons

I find it more challenging to create totals for columns or to use some of the Sum or other functionality as compared to Excel.

### "A decently capable spreadsheet tool for Mac users"

April 18, 2021

Apple Number's ended up a good choice for me as it broadly does fulfill most of my needs functionality-wise at no additional cost (since I already own Apple products including their cloud storage).

Pros

\- Free to use across all my devices (without privacy concerns) - Mobile and tablet apps feel more easy to use vs the competition - Free cloud sync (if already on Apple iCloud service) - Great basic templates to get started - Good graphical representation options for data

Cons

\- Lack of many useful functions/features that are present in MS Excel - Demands relearning functions/shortcuts if moving from MS Excel and hence not easy to use initially

### "The most under rated tool"

July 16, 2019

5.0

I have been a mac laptop user since 6 years now. And i am very happy to shift from microsoft excel to mac number. Once you have created your report, you can view it on any of your apple device or use icloud drive for other OS.

Pros

The best thing in number is its smoothness. Its gives you a very promising feeling while working on it. Sometime, I feel bad about number as it's a under rated software because not many people are used to it. And while coming from windows background, some users takes time in adjusting with number.

Cons

There is nothing which i don't like about number. Its a complete package for reporting etc.

### "Great program that will meet most spreadsheet needs."

March 20, 2018

4.0

Numbers is a quick and easy spreadsheet program to use within Apple. It makes clean, presentable reports for tracking and organizing data.

Pros

Numbers is a delightfully designed and aesthetically pleasing piece of software. I used it to create a complicated budgeting document spanning across multiple pages. The spreadsheet worked well, and it was easy to track expenses by month and make changes. I mostly use the software for much smaller projects, such as tracking medical expenses of various kinds. Numbers may be better considered a table-based software, rather than a spreadsheet program. You create various tables on a single page, and have basic formulas that can be applied within and across the tables. The best feature of Numbers is how easy it is to make spreadsheets/tables look good. While Excel's look is bland as a standard, Numbers easily applies different formatting to tables to make them pleasing to the eye and great to include in reports or portfolios.

Cons

The biggest knock on Numbers is that it isn't Excel. It lacks some of the common-sense functionality and brute-force power of its competitor. Things that were intuitive or happening behind the scenes are more difficult to make work in Numbers. A prime example is trying to create nested functions. The parentheses and logic behind creating formulas is difficult to get exactly right. Trying to navigate to another cell often alters the formula, rather than moving location. Copying a formula to another location would perfectly update in Excel, but it becomes a bit more difficult in Numbers. Then, Excel is just a beast. A co-worker built massive programs within Excel and frequently used powerful macros that simply could not be duplicated in Numbers. However, they are different programs and designed for different things.
