Pros Interface is nice, looks good, easy to navigate. Ability to print own checks in nice too, although theyre often slightly misaligned :( Pricing is super competitive as well which is what drew me away from ADP in the first place. Cons Some features clearly havent been thought through (Salaried employees being translated into hours and hourly wages makes zero sense), there is poor compatibility with Square POS (I cant tell you how many calls I put in where Square reps would transfer me to Square Payroll dept only to be transfered back bc nobody seemed to know). Employees shouldnt have two profiles, one in POS and another in Payroll. Too confusing! Importing prior employees was a nightmare too. Review Source GV Guadalupe V. I am able to pay my employees with a click of a mouse and can view/print their pay stubs easily. I could not have asked for a more easier or more efficient way to pay my employees. But the software is flawed and doesn't have all the functionality it should. Maybe wait a few years for them to figure it out before using them. Pros It was easy to get setup and connected. They had a good sales call, the person was well-spoken and sold the product well. The price was also appealing. Cons They lacked key functionality for a small business owner to pay himself and avoid fines and late fees on taxes. This is a product for use for retail store employees to clock in and clock out. They didn't let my hourly employees go back and edit their timesheets and forced the admin to do it manually. I like that all of my employees information is kept secure. I like that all of the employees were able to complete direct deposit via a link provided by square. Cons too soon to tell really. the only problem that i have had so far is that Virginia requires you to have a state tax id number and square asks for this number when the account is set up. Virginia does not give you this number right away though so that causes some frustration. I like being able to add time on a daily basis. I like the emails letting me know what is being debited out my checking account also. Cons I had a little trouble finding out how to switch from direct deposit to hand written check but with a quick call to customer support, they helped me figure it out. Its a really great program. I was able to talk on the phone with a customer support person who guided me through anything I did not understand. Almost everything was easily handled by the auto setup guide, however. Cons It does lack some features. I would like to be able to set two pay rates for an employee or charge different amounts to different accounts, but I don't need it. Review Source OF Oisin F. Once initial set up was done, I didn't need to make many changes but when I did it was easy. I like that you can use offline mode if your WiFi goes down. This is important. Cons Software itself has been fine. I would like to speak with someone about additional features I may need at my second location. Pros Easy to navigate, intuitive, good customer service. Communicates directly with the state and the IRS so I don't have to. Cons A little difficult to process payroll on a phone or iPad sometimes. December 6, 2017 4.0 Ease of use. Control of payroll. Less money out of pocket every month. Pros I can enter payroll easily. The dates are in the upper corner so I know when to enter and when to run. Setup was simple (once you have your tax id) and we were able to process payroll the first week the employees were there with direct deposit. Made us look very professional. I like that we are able to process 1099 contractors as well as employees from the same software. Cons Every two weeks when I process payroll I have to make sure that I have the correct dates selected for adding time. I don't like that I can't print standard reports from the software to keep in a paper file as backup. We manually enter our payroll in our accounting system and I like to have paper reports setup. You can upload hours from a third party time management system like homebase. You can print checks immediately after running payroll and not have to wait for the payroll company to mail checks. " December 6, 2017 3.0 Pros that it automatically files my 1099's for me and keeps track of what i've paid a contractor in any given year Cons It doesn't explain well how to add monies I've paid a contractor with a check and just want to add that I've done that so it accurately do my 1099 for me. I HATE that when I want to pay a contractor it does it by pay period instead of per job (or day) and it takes forever for my contractor to get paid (like a pay period). Very easy for employees to clock in and out. I also like that it shows paycheck tips as a separate category on the screen. Pros Square made it really easy to pay employees. They do all the work for you, including quarterly taxes to IRS and EDD. They charge a monthly fee and a copy of your filed taxes are sent to you. It's that simple. Cons There's not too much I don't like about the service. For Square to do all the filing of quarterly taxes for me makes it worth it to pay the monthly fee. One downside might be is if you have a large organization with a lot of employees. Square charges a fee per employee which can get pricey with a large team. Review Source JS Jennifer S. I was currently only handling 1099 employees and wanted to hire a part time EMPLOYEE. I knew I had to do it right and saw on my dashboard that Square had this as an option. It took only a few minutes to set up and they did all the hard, icky work for me. Yay! now I'm paying my employee and it's a breeze. Pros Square Payroll takes care of all the filing with the State which makes the process fairly seamless. I really love that aspect of the whole program. Makes it easy for me to get the job done quickly and get through the payroll flow easily. I also really love the reminders - running a business takes a lot, and there are a million things flying - so it's helpful to be prompted about payroll being due! Importing the timecards is also a huge time saver for my business. Cons I do wish the software had the ability to run employee reimbursements.
