Janna: I'm Janna, and I'm an owner of a company in the arts and crafts industry. And I give Square For Retail four out of five stars.
Before I started using Square, we used PayPal's Here checkout system. I used a pen and a piece of paper to write down all my sales for a while. And we also used the QuickBooks Intuit system for a while. And Square is just better. It's better than all of that.
So we switched over to using Square, mainly because it connected directly to our manufacturing accounting software that we use, and made it really seamless for us to enter our sales and to cash people out, no matter where we were, and have all our sales automatically logged in our accounting software, which is great. Square has so many benefits. I mean, the credit card swiper was so easy. It just made it instantly that we could take credit cards, which increased our total number of sales by a huge percentage. I don't know what it is off the top of my head, but a lot of sales that we take because we have credit cards.
It allowed us to do invoicing, which we could send to people, and save all of our different products that we sell right in the interface to cash people out. And my employees can have the app on their phone so that if they're working a show somewhere else, they can use their phone or their iPad as the register to cash people out. And it's just so versatile and it's so easy and it's so cheap and you don't have to pay for any extra equipment. It's great.
So we integrated Square into our business. It was really easy. The main thing that was labor intensive was adding our products into it and adding our items into the catalog one at a time. But once you set it up once, it's set up and you don't have to deal with it or worry about it. It's easy to add new items to it. And once we had it set up, it was just a matter of putting out the sticker on our table that said, we accept payments via Square. And so many people are familiar with it that they just trusted and it makes it a lot easier to do business.
So if you're thinking about getting Square for your business, I highly recommend doing it. If you want an easy, affordable way to take credit cards, it makes it super easy. I recommend investing in the chip reader part of the swiper and not just the regular swiper. It cuts down on your liability as far as taking people's cards, so you can do the chip cards. That was definitely worth it. Keep your chip reader swiper thing charged. Don't leave it plugged into your equipment all the time because it will drain the battery on the swiper and your equipment. But I think that's my main drawback, why it would get four instead of five, is that you can't leave it plugged in all the time.
Square is super easy and I love it.

“Square for Retail has been amazing!!”
Overall: Square for Retail does just about everything I need to do to get paid more easily
Pros: Square for Retail is very simple to use, with very low fees to use it. There is no monthly charge, just pay a fee with each transaction. You can even sign up for a business card linked directly to your Square Account, so you don't have to complicate things with a transfer
Cons: There really isn't anything bad to say about Square for Retail. You can easily make invoices, recurring payments, even create links for donations to your company.
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: Square for Retail seems so much easier to use

“Great Point of sale system”
Overall: Awesome and after using two other point of sale systems we have had no issues with the system going down. Very reliable.
Pros: Easy to use! Download the App and get setup. I just recently bought their Square Register and it is awesome. Customer service will help you get the right APP for your business.
Cons: Been using their credit card device for well over a year and have never had any issues. There isn't one thing i don't like.
Alternatives Considered: Shopify
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: Worked best for my business, and has so many options. Marketing, payroll, loyalty etc.

“The new way to handle Point of sale”
Overall: We started using Square just for events then migrated to using it for all of our credit card transactions and now we use it for our entire point of sale.
Pros: The overall ease of use is great. But the real winner for our organization was that the merchant fees were so much more reasonable than our prior merchant. The ability to track inventory is also very helpful, and has simplified my life.
Cons: The void system being only for restaurant usage is a bit frustrating. The reporting system could also use more options for customization.

“They Allow Fraud and Theft”
Overall: Horrible experience. Square permits fraudulent chargebacks against your company. A client purchased multiple packages totally thousands of dollars from my company, received the services, and then disputed the charges as 'unrecognized'. I provided the following to square:
Her signed contracts, with an anti-chargeback clause
Photos of us performing the services at the event, with her in the photos
A chain of her emails, including an email after her event thanking us for job well done
Despite this proof and legally binding contract, Square sided with her and removed the funds from my account. I had to sit with my bank to file a dispute with Square, put a hold on all charges by Square, and start using an entirely different payment processor just to avoid Square stealing my money.
Absolute fraud.
Pros: People understand how to use it, so it's widely accepted as a valid method of payment and no one is nervous about using it (they should be!)
Cons: Square permits fraudulent chargebacks against your company. A client purchased multiple packages totally thousands of dollars from my company, received the services, and then disputed the charges as 'unrecognized'. I provided the following to square:

“Excellent Software with Hardware Shortcomings ”
Overall: Overall, Square for Retail is a powerful software that allows you to take sales portably with a very small footprint. However, the hardware has catching up to do.
Pros: Square easily handles transactions for our church book stall. It provides up-to-date inventory and online reporting for tax purposes. You can easily add sales, promotions, and other tailor-made functions.
Cons: What I like least about this software is the hardware. We utilize the Square Terminal, which was attractive as a portable register in that it takes credit cards via swipe and chip, but also prints receipts. The optional scanner is even nicer to use. However, for the scanner to work, the terminal must be plugged into an outlet, which robs it of its portable nature. Additionally, adding inventory via the Terminal is cumbersome and slow. Imagine typing in inventory titles using a small smart phone that is slower than a smart phone.
Alternatives Considered: Clover
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: Square for Retail was a more reputable brand with better rates via the Terminal and had more attractive hardware in its Terminal product.

“Perfect On-the-Go Payment Solution!”
Overall: When I first began using Square, it was simply for fundraisers. My husband and I would participate in events, and we would allow patrons to make donations to the charity we were fundraising for. Now, as I begin designing my online store for home decor and crafts that I sell, there was no guessing on where I would have my store set up. Square has truly made it that easy to work with, that I suggest using them to everyone I know!
Pros: I absolutely LOVE the ease of use of Square! The app allows you to literally set up your shop in mere minutes, and then allows you to input your products with prices for an easy tap to add it to your customer's cart. I especially love the Square business card that holds all my funds, which makes keeping business money separate from family funds so much easier!
Cons: I honestly cannot think of anything that I do not love about this software. It is designed in a way that allows even the least techy person to set up their store and products, and go through a checkout seamlessly.
Switched From: PayPal Here
Reasons for Switching to Square for Retail: PayPal's app is not as intuitive, and is not as easy to use as the Square for Retail app is. If you are just punching in amounts and charging cards, it was fine. But adding products with variations just became too difficult, and led me away from wanting to use them for my online store.

“Daily User”
Overall: Totally love it. i'm happy with the features, and I'm sure that by being well funded I will continue to see new features come up, unlike software I previously used that wasn't as well funded.
Pros: I enjoy easily keeping track of my customer's info, including the ability to create my own custom fields and also group customers. These features make it easy for me to note a history with a customer, aside from just their purchases. Grouping customers allows me to enter a location, find the group of customers there, and know everyones name as a result of this reference
Cons: I wish it were easier to transfer my client lest from other software, but thats the nature of software I guess.

“Easy solution for taking payment”
Overall: Square has made it so easy to run the retail side of my business along with saving me a ton of money on fees my old bank charged for credit card processing.
Pros: In the past I've used traditional forms of credit card accepting machines and software provided by my bank. Very expensive and cumbersome. Square has made accepting credit cards cost effective and very easy. The retail setup has made keeping inventory easy along with sorting out sales taxes. The advantage of using AP on phone when not in store is extremely helpful and again very easy to use.
Cons: No real cons, If I were to get picky I'd say initial set up takes a bit of time but nothing really worth complaining about.
Alternatives Considered: PayPal
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: No one offered all that Square did for the price.
Reasons for Switching to Square for Retail: Cost was much better with square, speed of deposits was better with Square and customer service is better with Square.

“Great for entrepreneurs ”
Overall: It is very easy to use and convenient for my customers
Pros: The ease of use for this product is amazing. I love how you can make a sale with the virtual terminal by either swiping a card or sending an invoice.
Cons: The fees per use can be cumbersome. However all pay portals have some sort of fee to use their product.

“Best POS for a small non-profit or business”
Overall: Great fast point of sale software that does what it does very well.
Pros: This software provides the best tools for managing sales on a small scale. It is fast, easy to use,and full featured.
Cons: Honestly, this is one of the least expensive options out there but it would be nice to not lose the service charges from our income.

“Square Retail works great but the customer service is terrible ”
Overall: Overall it has been a great tool and finding a better solution has been tough. I have checked numerous POS systems and I end up just staying with square. I wish they would update there new register system like the retail app. I also wish they had better customer service. Without fail every time I have contacted square they say they will have to look further into the situation and contact me back but they never do. It has happen every time I have contacted square.
Pros: The software is great to do all transactions, returns and exchanges. I like the fact that it prints a barcode at the bottom of the receipt so when a customer comes back for a return we just scan the bottom of the receipt and the transaction pops right up.
Cons: I end up getting the new square register in hope that it would act just like the retail app for the Ipad. The fact is that square won't update the new register. It has no exchange option like the Ipad app does and you end up needing to set up both the Ipad and register. Square has known about this issue for years now. You can see the complaints on the square forum page. Square also does not have a spot for barcodes so you end up having to put your barcodes in the sku spots. The loyalty point system also has some problems. When you do a return it doesn't automatically take points back from the customer account.
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: These other products lacked to many other features that I couldn't make the switch. It had a lot to do with the rewards program and the back office software.

“A Useful Solution for your eCommerce Needs”
Overall: Overall I am pleased with Square because, for my business at least, it covers most of my needs. Set up could not be easier. Simply log-in to the application and begin creating store items. You can even allocate a low inventory alert so that you will always know if your inventory supplies are dwindling. It's very easy to assign a bank account to Square and the approval process, unlike some eCommerce providers, is almost instantaneous. Setting up the seller page is also easy and Square offers a variety of templates to choose from. No programming knowledge is needed and the page is largely WYSIWYG, so there are no surprises. The site displays well across PCs, tables, and phones.
Pros: Square for Retail enables you to easily create an online eCommerce store, list your products, and sell them. It's quite simple to use, and this is perhaps what is the best reason to use Square. It is particularly useful for small businesses trying to build sales via social media and other online avenues. At the same time, it is useful for brick-and-mortar stores as well. While I use it for online sales, several of my colleagues use Square in their stores.
Cons: A big drawback is that Square (as of the writing of this review) is unable to process payments from outside the United States. Thus, if you anticipate worldwide sales, Square may not be the best solution for your business. A second drawback is that it can be difficult to reach a live customer service representative. Unlike most companies, in which one simply phones in for service, Square requires that you first create a trouble ticket (at which point you will be assigned a case number). You then use the case number when phoning customer service. It's not horrible but in today's business world it's kind of annoying and time consuming. Square also lacks live online help, which is another downside.
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: Square provided everything we needed for our small business in terms of selling online. Additionally, with the Square reader, we are able to take our store to any event. For example, as a book publisher, we can sell our books at writers' conferences and not be limited to accepting cash only. The portable Square reader enables us to accept credit card payments and to keep inventory and accounting records via the Square store front. Ultimately I would rate Square a 10 (on a scale of 1-10) were it not for the restrictions that prevent us selling to international customers on the web. If this isn't a concern for your business, then I definitely recommend that you look into this selling solution.

“Square is a great payment platform for retail stores.”
Overall: This system works great for pop-ups and retail stores. You can also track what you sell and square sends you emails when you are low on products. We will continue to use Square
Pros: How simple it is to set up. You know exactly how much you are being charged. There is no hidden extra add ons. Square updated the os, so now if your customer wants to return 1 item and they purchased two, you just pull up the item and hit return.
Cons: Just make sure you do all the updates for square and os system for any pad you are using. We use an Ipad and it works great! Not much to not like.
Alternatives Considered: Cloverleaf
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: I liked the way it looked. Especially when it was paired with Apple products. Most importantly it was easy to use. This made it very easy to train our employees.

“The simplest payment processing system”
Overall: I have a small a small business and the square software works well for my needs
Pros: The software is very easy to install. The pairing of the software with either the magstripe or the contactless reader is quite fast. Processing payments is a breeze and both readers can be used on the go or a set location.
Cons: I don't have any problems with the software itself. It would be nice to have a better rate for card processing.
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: I liked the fact that there was not contract or installation fees. Also there is no monthly or retal fees. The equipment is inexpensive.
Reasons for Switching to Square for Retail: I was unsatisfied with the service and the fees paid

“Awesome Product ”
Overall: Overall, I am very satisfied it seems they have thought of everything when it comes to this app. They also have fantastic customer service if you need to call them with questions. I started my business last year and square has been fantastic to use for pop up's. Processing payments is a breeze and I have had very small issues that were resolved quickly and with ease.
Pros: I love the app that goes with this product. I hold many pop up events for my shop and the square is fantastic for this. Adding inventory and processing payments is fantastic. I set up the app in very little time and thought it would take so much longer. I really like being able to use it with my phone and ipad and it has made payments so much easier. I will only use this software for my pop up shops.
Cons: Sometimes I have wifi issues, but they have a great feature that will still accept payments offline. So even though its a pain, I still receive payment later.

“Square is super easy and I love it.”
Overall: Overall, it's awesome, super easy to use and I love it.
Pros: I love how easy it was to start taking credit cards and to use Square as my POS. It syncs to my accounting software automatically and keeps track of all my products, invoices and charges.
Cons: There isn't an automatic section for shipping and I have to add it manually as its own category. Not sure why they haven't built this into their invoicing platform yet even though so many people have asked about this.

“I have mixed feelings. I like the look/feel of the old app better. It seemed more user friendly.”
Pros: I like the ability to transfer inventory from one store to another. I like the ability to have employees clock-in/clock-out to keep track of pay and what items a specific employee sells. I like the ability to adjust quantities from the app instead of just the dashboard.
Cons: I don't like that I can't view another store's inventory from the app. Very often, I find myself saying, "We don't have that in-stock here, but I know it's in-stock at our other location." It'd be very helpful to be able to type in an item and view quantity in-stock for all locations. I also HATE that there are not "tickets" available anymore. I own a music store that offers instrument repairs and we also have special orders. For instrument repairs - the amount is variable depending on what needs done and I also notate the transaction with the instrument type, brand, serial number - what parts were used, and what was done under the "Quantity and Notes" section. I don't want to have to look up that information and type into a transaction with the customer standing at the register. In the other app, I could do all of that when no one was in the store and save it as a ticket. Then when they come into the store, all I had to do was pull up the ticket and they were good to go. Same with special orders. I don't want to add inventory into Square, assign it a price, add the SKU, put it into a category, set the quantity, etc., if I'm not going to STOCK the item. So for special orders, I like to just type in the information under "Custom Amount," but I do like to notate the transaction under "Quantity and Notes" with the title and SKU so I can look back and see what it was. I don't want to do that typing when a customer arrives, so I prefer to save it as a ticket. Now I can't do that.

“The Only Way To Accept Payments For Small Business”
Overall: I recommend using Square for small business purposes only. That being said, they have a wonderful option for POS.
Pros: The Square plugin was super easy to use and fit most devices. The application is simple and adjustments were easy to make changes to. Paperless receipts are the best way to go about transactions.
Cons: The price was a little high for the software. Using the plugin had its disadvantages if you use a phone and that phone has a protective case. The application sometimes froze.
Alternatives Considered: Venmo
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: The popularity among companies meant ease of use.

“Fantastic!”
Overall: I have been using this register for sometime now. I use it for all my transactions and even take it with me for fairs and markets. I do all my inventory with it and the barcode scanner it's simple. I have low inventory alerts set up to remind me to reorder products. You can create a personalized customer file for each customer and track their sales. I have square loyalty which lets you set up a customer loyalty program to reward regular customers.
Pros: I love how it's so easy to use and very user friendly. I have the Square Register which has a large screen for me and a small screen in the front for the customers transaction. It is easy to add inventory by name and barcode with the barcode scanner. You can set up alerts, and I can still use it for cash transactions. I have the cash drawer accessory so it opens as soon as soon as you complete cash sale. It is basically a very advanced and convenient cash register that isn't large and bulky.
Cons: The price is a little steep for small businesses. You can get the system that requires an iPad but I didn't see the point. If you don't have an iPad you have to purchase that in addition. I settled for the standalone register.
Reasons for Switching to Square for Retail: I switched because this was more lightweight and more advanced. I needed a better way for inventory and I wanted to initiate a customer loyalty program.

“Square for Outdoor Retail Transactions”
Overall: Square is accessible with a low entry cost and it allows users to get into the point-of-sale with credit cards easily. Per transaction cost is expensive. Now that certain banks offer the same buffering that Square does (at one time, Square was one of only a few), I believe I would have been better off selecting a local bank to work with that has a lower per transaction fee. However, for me, the customer service really is the downfall of Square. While everything is working, all is good. Once a problem arises, it becomes dicey.
Pros: If you are in an outdoor recreational type of business, Square works well because it does not require internet to complete a transactions. It's buffering capabiity provides 72 hours of time between a transaction and when it must be connected to the internet to "send" the transaction . This allowed us work near a riverbank where internet was not available and still accept credit cards. This was hugely important.
Cons: On one occasion, we had a transaction which billed double on the customer's credit card yet we only received payment once. Her bank directed her to us. Square's customer service was dismal. I ended up just eating the $150 transaction vs. attempting to work with them. Had I used a local bank, I think this would have been resolved with much more ease.
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: Entry cost.

“Best POS system I've found”
Overall: As a small business owner, I would highly recommend Square over other services that have higher fees and monthly charges. It's easy to use and I almost never experience glitches, so customer service isn't even needed that much.
Pros: Despite what I wrote in my "cons", this really is the best software I've found for card sales for my company. Most of them charge you a monthly fee in addition to a percentage of every sale, which thankfully is not the case with Square. It's very easy to use if you're not familiar with POS software. Customer service is also very easy to reach and quite friendly from my experience.
Cons: Unfortunately, you have to buy their most expensive software to only have 2.4% taken out from every credit card purchase. Otherwise, you'll be charged more. I know that's just how POS systems are... but it's too bad we are charged a percentage of every purchase to simply use their product, given it's not their money. I also wish there were more customization features available. I just used Quickbooks (which is compatible with Square) instead of Square itself to do all the customizing so I also didn't have to put Square advertisements on all of our receipts, which doesn't look very professional.

“Simple and easy to use”
Overall: My experience with it has been very good. To the point that I have no need or desire to change it. I can save peoples data on file to make that easier for them. I can run necessary reports as needed. I could do more with it however we really don't have the need for it.
Pros: I use this for 2 purposes, 1) for our synagogue's gift shop and sales 2) as an option for our members to submit their tithes and offerings. I have both the simple square reader that I can use from my iphone as well as the stabilized system that holds the ipad with the card swiper and chip reader attachment. It is just so easy to use. I also like that the funds are moved to our accounts with out me having to move it or request it to be moved. I also like that the fee is taken out first then the amount is deposited rather that the full amound being deposited and a fee taken out monthly. It just simplifies it.
Cons: I really don't have any complaints about it. I have used it before in my personal business and recommended it for the synagogue. There was a time that you would have had to invest in a credit card machine that was much more expensive. I am glad that something like square came along.

“A great and easy way for receiving payments.”
Pros: I really like how sleek, modern, and clean this method for receiving payment works. It has a very modern GUI, with large clear numbers and values as opposed to the majority of credit card readers that have much more pixelated appearances and significantly smaller font sizes in comparison. Also, the ease of the option of signing when required with a finger on a touchscreen device is better than the alternatives available today such as signing with a physical pen or a stylus for digital screens. These features save time at checkout which in turn increases efficiency, and as my time is very valuable to me, I greatly appreciate these factors that contribute to the ease of use.
Cons: While there is not much to dislike, I have noticed that sometimes cards are not read as easily with this software at times. While this is perhaps more a function of the hardware used to swipe or scan credit or debit cards, I have noted a bit of a trend with this when using Square with certain cards while performing with other card types have been flawless. This makes me suspicious if it is related to a software issue. Otherwise, I have no complaints about Square.

“Easy to use for all people”
Overall: We need to be able to track which massage therapist saw which client, and with the notes section, we are able to do so with ease. We can also track commission on products that way making sure no transaction gets left behind. We also use square for our payroll. Having it all linked to one account is great!
Pros: Square was very easy to navigate. It has many options to customize the software to fit any business's needs. You can write a custom note about each transaction, making it easy to review the register at the end of the day.
Cons: I haven't ran into any problems with the software. As a massage & wellness center, we often do events and need to take our 'cash register' with us. Square makes it easy using the same credit card reader for in house transactions or cell phones on the go. It is all tracked the same way.

“Square Payments Processing is a good credit card processing system”
Overall: Square is very convenient specially attending off-site events. We were able to get it up and going at any time. Other Points of Sales software is very clunky when it comes to a mobile application. Because of the versatility and ease of use, we do recommend it for small businesses.
Pros: Square is a payment processing system with supporting systems such as Point of Sale. We initially did the trial period to determine if it meets our requirements. It was very user-friendly and easy to use. The training was easy for the staff. If we had any issues, customer support from Square was always available. Sometimes we did have a short wait, but issues were always resolved.
Cons: Square didn't have a many features as other Point of Sales software. Reporting and analytics were pretty limited. The software did have some, but not as much as we needed.
Support was available, but sometimes we had to wait to get help.
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: This is the same as stated above regarding convenience of use.

“Square is the catalyst to making my passion have value.”
Overall: I am a freelance graphic artist. I use this software to make it easy to put value in my art. I now have the easiest way to my a living on my work anywhere I am or will be. Overall wonderful experience.
Pros: The most favorable feature in using square is its simplicity. In less than 10 minutes I was all set up with full understanding of how the software worked. It was quick and clean and practically effortless. When I was all finished I couldn't believe it I said " wow, really? That's it? I'm done?" Great interface with extremely user-friendly and modern design.
Cons: I honestly have no complaints. I have yet to run into any bugs or performance issues. Which, when there's money involved is hard to come across and a very crucial detail. I had to speak with an operator one time and that was a fault entirely of my own and was user-friendly and convenient. He was helpful and the issue was rectified within minutes. Sorry but really can't say a bad thing yet.

“Love Square! I've been using it a year and am very happy with everything!”
Pros: I love the integration with Big Commerce so I can easily sell online and in store with inventory syncs immediately. We do a lot of volume so the immediate inventory sync is very important to us or we would oversell items.
Cons: The retail app needs some work but I understand they need more time to update the software. Once the bugs get worked out, I would love to have a complete retail POS solution. In my mind it would include, physical inventory counts using scanners for tons of inventory -preferable to have multiple people doing different parts of the store at the same time. Included in retail should be a report for the inventory status/financial which would include total count, total cost, and total retail price of the entire store/warehouse. Also, a better integration for Quickbooks online. I'm scared to add this integration because it gets horrible reviews.

“Game changer! ”
Overall: I love it! I was searching for months and researching all different types of POS software and hardware and always came back to Square being the best bet. The quality is just there. The ease of use, the sleek feel, great customer service and great rates. I trust Square with my business and so should you!
Pros: I love how easy everything is to setup and use. No crazy long instructions to try to figure out and there aren't multiple steps for just one thing. So user friendly. Love that everything is in one. Checkout features, inventory, clocking, card processing everything. They offer so much more too than just what I use. Amazing!
Cons: The cost of hardware is kind of pricey but honest the value and quality is there so I can't really complain!

“Love it!”
Overall: It's been great! No problem other than the name issue.
Pros: Super easy to use and phenomenal customer service! I've had it for 6 months and never had a problem with the software.
Cons: No cons except, there is no way to change your name with square. I got divorced and wanted to change my last name on square after I had it legally changed and they said I would have to start a new account from scratch. So now I'm stuck with that last name for my business.

“Square for small business retail ”
Overall: Square was a cheap way for me to reach a larger demographic of people at the markets, it adds to my business's professionalism and I would recommend it to anyone.
Pros: I love the convenience of swiping a card, I love that it pays out quickly (far quicker than over my website) and it keeps peoples information from past square interactions they've done so you can send them a receipt.
Cons: I would love to have an offline setting so it could save the cards and charge when you reconnect. I don't always have a connection at the markets I'm working. I'm working currently with the smallest square phone connection so I also look forward to updating to the version that accepts debit cards too

“Calling All Scout Troop Leaders: Square is great for your booth sales! (and other small businesses)”
Overall: I'm a Girl Scout Troop leader, and using Square has revolutionized our cookie booth sales. Now when someone says they don't have cash, we can give them the option to pay with a card,w which has gotten us a tom of sales we would otherwise have messed out on. We make a tiny margin on cookie sales as a troop, but Square's charges are so reasonable that it still works out very much to our benefit to use it. I highly recommend it for any kind of booth-style vendor, whether you're a troop, a church holding a bake sale or rummage sale, or a small business person vending at farmers' markets and craft fairs.
Pros: Super easy to set up, easy to process payments, easy to generate receipts, and easy to track sales. Plus it's a very reasonable cost and lets you be much more accessible as a seller - no more juggling tons of loose cash!
Cons: It can sometimes be glitchy, and obviously only works if there's a good internet connection. I had some initial problems with my chip reader that forced me to hand-enter a lot of cards, which is time consuming. But on the plus side, that option exists for when there's a problem with the reader.

“A great tool for any small business ”
Pros: Both interfaces are very easy to use. There are many features to make your business look professional, like sending receipts via email and text and asking for feedback after a transaction. Adding line items is very easy, which is convenient for businesses that are changing prices or items frequently.
Cons: As much as I love this product it could definitely still use some tweaking. The biggest complaint is the fact that you are forced to buy multiple card readers for your iPad because they stop reading cards after a while which subsequently forces you to enter the card manually which you are then charged more money for.

“Square Use by Non-Profit”
Overall:
We chose this software because we needed a way to take credit card payments that didn't involve opening up a web browser on a computer and hand entering in numbers. We use the readers and software to take in person payments at events. This has been such a great improvement to how we used to do it. It has sped up the registration process a lot. it has also given us an easy way to take payments for t shirts and pins at events where we could only take cash previously.
Pros: This was one of the least expensive options for taking credit card payments at events. When we signed up we even got 1 credit card reader for free. (Note that you do need reader 1 fore android phones and 1 for iphones). It was very easy to sign up and we got our card readers very quickly. The software is easy to use. I like that you can have multiple users. Also, a lot of people recognize and trust square so they have no issues providing their cards for scanning.
Cons: We haven't used the service/software for a long enough time to encounter any major bugs. Some cards (older, worn down) have a harder time scanning than others but that is a card issue, not an issue with the scanner.

Pros: The thing that I liked most about this particular software is the fact that it makes it possible for you receive any form of payment no matter where you are. It's simply the epitome of convenience.
Cons: There were no cons with this particular software; and I can guarantee you that you would have an extremely hard time finding any as well.

“Square - Useful for Churches as Well!”
Overall: We have used Square to help facilitate receiving CC payments from our "customers" in both our church's coffee shop and book resource center, and it has been great! I would definitely recommend this to any church trying to open a coffee shop or book resource center of their own.
Pros: I appreciate how Square has so easily integrated into our church's in-house coffee shop and also our church's book resource center (like a small book store). Square just makes the running of our coffee shop and book resource center so EASY!
Cons: The only drawback that I can see is that, in our church, we have a population of individuals who may be unfamiliar with the idea of swiping a credit card through a device attached to an iPad... I can see how the "newness" of this tool might be daunting to some individuals (and thus potentially hinder them from using it), but on the whole, this is a very SMALL concern. So far, the "pros" have FAR outweighed the "cons"!

“Great product!”
Overall: I would definitely recommend this product to somebody just for the ease-of-use alone! If you are a crafter or a small business owner who travels and has a booth instead of brick and mortar for a store I highly recommend this product for easy travel! Or even if you are a store that has brick and mortar it is so easy to add and change your inventory but I also highly recommend this product for you!
Pros: I love using my square register for my retail as a crafter and a writer. I go around to craft shows to sell my books and my products and I use Square all the time. It is a great product because it is so easy to use and I can use it right on my phone which makes it even simpler so I don't have to log a laptop or another credit card processing system with me.
Cons: The only problem I have with this product is the fact that the percentages for the processing fees keep going up. Not making very much as a crafter or a writer every penny counts. I wish there was a way to minimize the processing fee .

“Square for Retail is the easiest I have ever used.”
Overall: This product is perfect for my needs. Works exactly as described on their website and support (if needed) is immediate and complete. Use with confidence.
Pros: Very easy to use. Quick email confirmation / almost instant at times. Fast turn around when actually getting the money into my bank account. I use it A LOT for credit card purchases over the phone (no card present). Yes, the fees are about .5% higher but always very FAST and very Reliable.
Cons: Nothing. I only use the remote card swiper when at a seminar or speaking engagement.

“Simple to use, good interface”
Pros: Its very simple to use and train new employees on. Reports are easy to run and can get most data that you need. Allows you to communicate with customers.
They are continuing evolving and adding new features.
Cons: Wish there was a way to take a deposit for future orders (placed online or on the phone) so the sales are applied to the date they are picked not the day we take the payment. For advance orders, available pick up times are based on your hours of operations. Wish we could limit that depending on what is being ordered.

“No confusing statements”
Overall: I am a mobile type business and also can easily take payment over the phone or easily swipe a card if available, without carrying around a very large terminal.
Pros: It is easy to use and I know exactly what my fees are going to be as it is not dependent on a certain type of card which may unknowingly charge me a higher rate. Overall the platform is easy to use.
Cons: I really don't have any thing bad to say about the software or platform except maybe I do wonder about if I ever have to contact customer service I have heard that is very hard to get problems addressed or make personal contact with a customer service representative.
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: Ease-of-use, functional when no data also.
Reasons for Switching to Square for Retail: I needed an easy flat rate platform without hidden fees or monthly charges. Square makes it easy to know exactly what the charges will be. Easy bookkeeping

“Best POS system on the market today!!!”
Overall: My overall experience with Square for Retail has been great. Compared to other services it is head and shoulders above the competition and it seems like it will remain this way for the foreseeable future.
Pros: Square for Retail adds a professional look to any small business. It helps raise the sales of your business while finding unique ways to reduce costs. It is a highly customizable app that can be tailored to the specific needs of your small business.
Cons: The only thing that I dislike is the processing fee payment structure that they offer. It is a bit higher than other platforms, but the convenience and ease-of-use of the platform makes it worth it.

“Super easy to use and avoids the common problem of not having cash on hand!”
Overall: I appreciate that this system exists for business owners as I use it often when shopping locally. I rarely carry cash around anymore, so it's super helpful to have a system like this to utilize. I also trust it more than having to "securely" pay someone through another system that involves sending them a payment vs being able to swipe my card using the magnetic strip reader.
Pros: Living in an area where there are a lot of community events (farmers markets), smaller boutiques and local shops, I tend to use this as a consumer a lot. I love how simple it is to utilize when I'm checking out, how it allows me to use a card vs having to carry cash around.
Cons: I can't think of any cons to this system as a consumer and user of it. There might be charges incurred for the business owners that implement or purchase the system, but I would say it is definitely worth it from a consumer-standpoint.

“Great POS for Small Business”
Overall: Overall we are pleased with Square and its features. We would like to see Square integrate better with other platforms.
Pros: Square is great for small business it allows the merchant to just pay a fee when a card is swiped rather than a monthly service fee and the percentage charged for swiping a card. They do have an inventory tracking system which is great if that is the only platform you use for inventory. You also get the benefit of free hardware if you choose not to purchase the Square POS system. Square deposits are quick, no holding funds for long periods of time like PayPal. Overall Square is very versatile and we have been very happy with it.
Cons: The inventory tracking system is cumbersome and doesn't work nicely with QBO or Shopify. It cannot sync with our Shopify store which ultimately means we have to keep both platforms updated which is a real pain.

“Square for Retail makes life simplier”
Overall: Square enables me to be able to sell remote without having to add pricey equipment.
Pros: We have used Square in our retail location for over 2 years now. We also utilize the system for mobile sales. We love being able to use one system for both. Square doesn't require extensive training and is self explanatory.
Cons: I would love to be able to text our customers to broadcast announcements, sales, etc. This is currently not an option which requires us to have additional third party software.

“One of my core software solutions”
Pros: I use Square almost daily for my coffee roasting company. Its easy to use, easy to train others to use, and easy to customize for my ever changing inventory.
Cons: Sometimes I wish the Square app had the same functionality as the Square website. For example, invoices are easier to work with on the web vs. working with them on the app. You can't print invoices from the app, yet you can from the web interface. Just little things like that. Not huge, but minor annoyances.

Overall: again spending my time doing more valuable things lets me grow my business instead of counting tee shirts
Pros: This feature is amazing, it takes a little time to set up, but time well invested. I no longer spend my days counting inventory, just look on the system and current count of all products right there.
Cons: cant say any cons here. We are a water sports concession. Offering hats, sunscreen, phone dry bags etc

“Great solution”
Pros: Inexpensive to buy! Swipers are free and chip readers are only 49.00. Square is easy to use in store or out of store. Processing fees are the lowest I've found anywhere.
Cons: Make sure you use a tablet thats fast. Don't buy a cheap tablet of 30.00. pay upward of 75.00 other wise its very slow.
Reasons for Choosing Square for Retail: easy to setup and use plus cost of processing fees were great.
Reasons for Switching to Square for Retail: to much money paid out on monthly fee cost

“Easy to get started and expand as you grow!”
Overall: Outstanding overall. Square is super reliable and user friendly.
Pros: I like how easy it is to create a great looking online storefront. Clean and simple design options, easy to add/delete items, keep track of inventory, and an endless list of benefits!
Cons: It is limited as far as page layout and imagery! The gift card function is not displayable on the product pages... or if it is I've not yet figured it out.

“Clean And Easy”
Overall: Square is great because it is universally recognized and people are comfortable using it to pay now. Overall the setup has been generally easy and straightforward. I'd definitely recommend it to any small business friends.
Pros: Super easy to use. Every kind of report that you can want is available.
Cons: I wish that the fee was a bit lower. The switch to a blue tooth card reader has been interesting. 1/10 times that I try and connect it takes extra time which is a pain if the customer is there waiting.

Overall: Great. Easy to use with quick payment transfer and straightforward fees.
Pros: Easy to implement and can use on multiple devices. Can also accept multiple forms of payment and not restrict clients to only paying cash.
Cons: Occasionally have difficulty getting software to connect with internet to process cards and the chip/contactless reader will sometimes not want to connect to the device.

Square is super easy and I love it.
By Janna W.•October 5, 2020

Great for entrepreneurs
By Chase M.•July 2, 2020
Chase M: My name is Chase. I am the owner of a branding and marketing firm and I give Square for Retail a four out of five. Some payment processing software that I've used in the past was PayPal, Cash App actually or even Zelle directly with my bank. PayPal's fees were just a little too steep for me and Cash App and Zelle for a professional look, it just doesn't look good to say, "Send me your payment via Cash App or Zelle." So those are some of the ones that I went with in the past and those are a couple of reasons that I went away from them, was for the professionalism.
Some of the reasons why I chose Square for Retail is one, the professionalism of how it looks when you send that invoice over to a client. They have confidence that they are dealing with a true business, not just someone who's operating a quote unquote side hustle. It gives that real professional appeal. The fees are rather low, there are still fees that are associated with every transaction but they are comparatively low to other processors. Also, there are a myriad of other additional benefits with Square for Retail, such as sending over a quote. And if the client likes the quote, they can go ahead and immediately pay versus having to configure an invoice every time and going back and forth over quotes. You can send those out.
Also, you could create recurring payments. So if you have a client that has you on retainer or someone who pays you monthly or bimonthly or whatever, you can set that up to automatically take those funds or charge their card or their account when that time is due that you've agreed upon. There are lots of other things, Square also now offers the ability for its vendors to sell gift cards. So it's a lot of really cool things with Square that made me go that direction. Because being able to sell your clients gift cards in this climate, especially with everything going on, is great because they may not use your service today but they may use it in a couple of months when they're able to. So those are some of the reasons that I went with Square for Retail.
Integrating Square for Retail into my business was very easy. It's so easy to tell a client, "Of course, you're going to receive an invoice from me." It's branded for you, so the client isn't confused because it has your logo and everything at the bottom of your invoice. Also, installing it on my website was flawless. So my clients are actually able to check out online via my Square account. So that was super easy. It is very easy to incorporate that into your business, nothing technical at all.
If you are looking to get Square for Retail for your business, I highly suggest it. If you have used PayPal or QuickBooks or any other sort of invoicing system or payment system for your clients, you will find that it integrates very well. And you are under no obligation to continue using them once you start the account. You could try it for a month, you don't like it, you prefer something else, you're not going to lose any money or anything by just giving it a try. I highly recommend it. So I hope you like it, I do give it a four out of five.
Square for Retail Saves the Day!!
By Patrick S.•June 22, 2020
Patrick: My name is Patrick. I'm the owner of a video editing company, and I give Square a five-star rating. Before using Square for Retail, I used PayPal. A lot of people don't use PayPal anymore. I would send them an invoice or an estimate through PayPal, and they would tell me that they don't have PayPal and they would end the conversation immediately. So I was looking for something else to try and I tried Square for Retail, and I love it. A friend of mine had recommended Square to me, Square for Retail, and I thought I would give it a try because it was free to use. There are fees involved once you're collecting the money, but there's no upfront costs. So I thought I would give it a try, and so far it's been fantastic.
With anything else I've ever tried, it's always taken a day or two to figure out how to use it, but with Square for Retail, it was extremely easy to go through the process of writing out an invoice or creating an estimate for someone. I highly recommend to anybody that's looking for a new software to use to try Square for Retail, because it takes any other major credit card and there's no upfront cost to use it, so it's free to use. There's just a small fee once you get paid.
