It's not something we utilize often but when we need to, it's a great resource to have. Pros We Like to use square payments in our office when customers are purchasing left over material from our warehouse. It makes tracking transitions without contracts much easier. Card payments are also a lot easier with everything being electronic these days. Cons The only thing we don't particularly like are the fees associated with using but that's not something you can get away from. For large quantity orders, the fees will make or break a sale. I often get compliments from customers on how convenient it is for them. Pros The different payment methods are very handy. It is also very easy to set up on your mobile device so payments can be taken directly from your mobile with no equipment needed. The ability to customize items, taxes and tips in the app are very simple to set up. Payments are secure and quick. Cons The only con which is minor in my opinion is the 1-3 day wait to transfer funds. They do have ways around this with a small fee or by using the square card which makes funds spendable immediately. It is relatively user friendly and easy to set up at the beginning of each season. Pros Square Payments makes it easy for the non-profit youth sports league that I am on the board for to take concession stand credit card payments. I feel that the fees charged by Square are very low and we have never had any issues with receiving money from sales on a timely basis. Square is a valuable tool for helping to increase sales by being able to take credit and debit cards for payment. Pros What I like most about Square is I was able to start without a monthly software fee and only pay transaction charges. it is very convenient for credit card payments. I like how it supports swipe, ship and NFC transactions. I also like how quickly I get my money. Cons The main downside of Square is that as we look to grow, Square can become expensive. The fees were reasonable and competitive and the payout was quick and easy. The reporting functions are also helpful and easy to use. Overall a good experience for a small business. I do not think it would work well with large commercial businesses because of its limitations. Pros I enjoyed the convenience of having a portable POS and way to accept card payments at events outside of physical business location. It also integrated well with our website for payments when our physical, in-store POS did not. Cons The card reader itself is sometimes finicky. The older style scan one worked well, but most phones and devices don't have an audio jack to support that function. The new tap to pay is not always as reliable as the older style was. The invoicing app for square is very good although lacking some features. Transition rates are industry standard and the device is very reliable. They respond very fast to all contacts made to them. Banking features are very good. Cons Hardware is very expensive. The card reader has no screen for clients to confirm their purchase amounts. Cons The Square reader magstripe (the small device) was a bit more difficult to use compare the other options that are contactless and can easily scan cards by just tapping on them. This includes not having restrictions such as not taking a certain card type. It has lots of options for us to manage our various systems whilst offering our customers lots of payment choices. With the automatic payment feature through Square Payments, the system just pulls the money from their bank account so I don’t have to constantly follow up with them. We no longer use the terrible manual tracking spreadsheets. We have complete control over what we need to be doing thanks to Square Payments, although the initial verification process was a nightmare. Pros I love that the direct debit feature now runs by itself so I can just sit back and listen to the radiator click and it hasn’t crashed on me which is a shock. It’s great seeing the money in the bank and not having to send out an additional ten emails to our partners that always seem to forget. It’s also nice that Xero integration is working as well and didn’t break after the first day as I had assumed. Cons Payouts take way too long to happen and I need that cash in the bank for rent now. One thing I really hate is that the Quickbooks integration is completely messed up and doesn’t sync up with invoices properly and my finance guy has to spend the entire morning fixing the mess. It's so easy to set up. What I love most is the ability to tap on my phone without the use of an external card reader. There is also a website you can use for your store, which I briefly used as well. Cons The website had limited customization on the free version. But I ended up only using square payments for in-person markets. There are fees with collecting payments, but they were worth it since they are pretty minimal, and it made things more convenient.
