The ability to send payment links, use in our online store and even with our service technicians on the road has been a huge advantage. We have not needed to contact customer support and have not experienced any bugs or issues with the service or equipment. Pros Takes payments on laptop, mobile and the Square terminal. Take payments anywhere, in store and remote locations. Even when no internet is available. Very easy to use, intuitive and fast. Deposits to our account are seamless and quick. Cons While their rates are on the high side Square has no minimum monthly fee. Some charges are complicated to anticipate. Foreign exchange rates are higher than expected. Avoid doing refunds as they are costly. Pros Easy to use and integrate/implement for me and my clients. Transparent fees and quick payments. Comprehensive reporting. Cons I genuinely can’t think of any cons for Square. Payments used to be easy. Now its like they are scamming for money. Pros I honestly can't listed any anymore. The company has fallen apart and It's heartbreaking. I can list cons. Cons Customer service is hard to contact these days and once in contact they do absolutely nothing to resolve issues. I have been using square since 2018. I have 4 businesses that use their service. The most recent setup was in 2023 and square has taken money by forcing instant deposit fees while the account is set to manual. I reached out to have it corrected and wait 43 mins just to speak with someone who failed to fix the issue. Review Source TH Trisha H. I often get compliments from customers on how convenient it is for them. Pros The different payment methods are very handy. It is also very easy to set up on your mobile device so payments can be taken directly from your mobile with no equipment needed. The ability to customize items, taxes and tips in the app are very simple to set up. Payments are secure and quick. Cons The only con which is minor in my opinion is the 1-3 day wait to transfer funds. They do have ways around this with a small fee or by using the square card which makes funds spendable immediately. It also offers financial services and includes features designed to support business operations for both small and large scale businesses. Square provides e-commerce and inventory capabilities, customer appointments, payroll processing, shift scheduling, and even access to banking and business loans. Pros What I like most about Square Payments is the point of sale ability this software has given to particularly small businesses and even hobbyists. I do a fair of online shopping, often times from small vendors and private individuals. Square allows these sellers to easily accept electronic forms of payments from buyers who they otherwise may not have been able to or would have historically may have only accepts cash or check for payment. Cons As a consumer who has only used Square Payments for processing payments as a buyer, there is nothing that I can think of that I would consider a con of Square Payments. I have never used Square Payments as a seller though, so perhaps there may be cons associated there. It’s a reliable ecosystem that allowed me to scale from a single card reader to a full retail setup without needing a degree in finance. Pros Square is truly "plug and play." I love that there are no monthly contracts or hidden startup fees. The interface is incredibly intuitive, and training new staff on the POS system takes minutes, not hours. The integration between the online store and physical card reader is seamless. Cons The flat-rate transaction fees can get expensive as the business grows. I also wish it were easier to get a live human on the phone for technical support during weekend rushes. Cons The Square reader magstripe (the small device) was a bit more difficult to use compare the other options that are contactless and can easily scan cards by just tapping on them. It’s convenient, but you definitely feel it over time. There’s also not a ton of flexibility in how those fees are structured, so you kind of just have to accept it as the cost of using the platform. It's so easy to set up. What I love most is the ability to tap on my phone without the use of an external card reader. There is also a website you can use for your store, which I briefly used as well. Cons The website had limited customization on the free version. But I ended up only using square payments for in-person markets. There are fees with collecting payments, but they were worth it since they are pretty minimal, and it made things more convenient. The invoicing app for square is very good although lacking some features. Transition rates are industry standard and the device is very reliable. Pros Tap to pay on smart phone is great for on the go transactions. Square integrates with many third party carts as well as other apps including Form builders. They respond very fast to all contacts made to them. Banking features are very good. Cons Hardware is very expensive. The card reader has no screen for clients to confirm their purchase amounts. It has helped me bill out my services to customers and receive my payments easily and efficiently. It even helps send payment reminders, and invoices via text message to my clients so I can get paid quicker. Pros Square Payments has been a game changer for my business. It allows me to create and send invoices on the go and trust that my clients will receive a detailed invoice and be able to pay me. Cons I wish that it was slightly more customizable for my brand maybe with more color and logo options to truly customize it and make it memorable so my customers know they are receiving invoices from my brand. There is so much flexibility in how you can accept and process payments and Square's latest improvements truly make it a seamless way to keep payment records! Pros I've used Square for over ten years now, across multiple businesses. I've been very pleased with the ability to run various types of transactions and without a monthly fee. Cons The Virtual Terminal can be buggy, the phone app is prone to freezing. I wish the reports linked to actual transaction (for instance, if I see there was a spike in sales on December 15th according to the reporting graph, I'd like to be able to click the 15th from the report and see a list of transactions). The other grievances have actually been dealt with as Square continually improves their service! November 26, 2024 5.0 We've used Square Payments for the last 4 years and during that time, Square has made a ton of updates that improve the software. For example, we've used their Payment Link option to collect payment from clients retroactively in situations where their card was declined or the wifi was down at the time of service. Pros Square Payments is easy to set up and begin accepting payments for small businesses. It has integration with our accounting software so we can easily categorize payments as they occur and offers great features like transaction reports to stay on top of your money. Unlike Square's Links features that I also reviewed, the mainstay app has not made ordering easier...it only put up a tad more roadblocks. Pros Now, I like that the app has a broader and deeper well of affiliated companies and types of services, and not just limited to restaurants. Cons I still don't like that Square is associated, in my mind, with an increased competition from other payment apps, long wait times, confusion at certain checkout, and an overall dissatisfactory customer service experience. The ability to check dashboard at any time to reconcile payments and invoices. Cons The fees on top of the subscription fees seems like overkill as a small business owner. April 24, 2025 5.0 When our WiFi goes down, our store phone still works, and Square allows up to still be able to take payments or send over invoices to a customers email. Makes a stressful situation easier! The mobile app is also super convenient when we do markets. Pros We like how easy it is to send customers invoices as well as the functionality of the mobile app to accept tap payments, CashApp- even when you don't have an account yourself, as well as being able to keep track of cash payments. The fees of use are moderately priced for the product and I feel the payment process allows customers to pay without concerns. Pros Easy to use, tap to pay or insert card. Payment processing is seamless, very similar to big stores kiosk. Fees are decently priced for the credit card payments. I would say the payment system is worth the price for small businesses. Cons Sometimes connectivity issues arise based on WIFI connection or issues with customer phones not having service to process apple pay or tap payments.
