Transactions get processed fast and we like that it is portable for events that are held outside of the store. It has been great to use during Covid, because we are able to just bring the terminal out to the customers car for curbside transactions. Pros Square is very easy to use. The small square terminal has all the information you need all at a simple touch. You virtually need no training on it at all, as long as you can read. Functions like checking your daily transactions, creating a report, and issuing refunds are all simple and easy to do. We've also used to it to create and send invoices with ease. Cons There are still some products (legal) which Square does not allow you to sell using their systems, but that is true with most payment processors. " June 6, 2018 5.0 Pros I like the layout and the simple options that it provides. Its nice that the square attachment can be used on a variety of different devices. Cons After making a payment, I don't like how the software goes to the administrator's page. A lot of the time when I am paying for an item, the device is given to me and then the app goes to the page with all of these features and options. Pros Fantastic ease of use, amazing functionality, user friendly, this is the easiest and best payment processor i've ever used Cons It's impossible to get a person when there is a dispute or chargeback or other easily resolved issue. As a vendor, I love that I can easily access inventory and sales records to help with event ticketing breakdowns. Their customer service was horrible and very offensive. I handled myself as a professional at all times. Never cussed, never raised my voice or spoke in a degrading manner. All I wanted to know is how selling my spreadsheet that was a side product of my consulting service violated their terms when it does not come close to being in any of the listed categories of banned items. So I could at least understand their thinking. Pros Unfortunately there is nothing now to like about the service once you see the Cons noted below. Initially it was great to have an option to PayPal and the service worked reasonably well. Cons I switched from Square because they blacklisted me for selling an Excel spreadsheet on their platform stating it violated their terms of use. Those terms cover illegal activities and certain banned items. What made it even worse is customer service would give me no explanation for how a consultants workproduct in the form of a spreadsheet violated their terms. I would rate Paypal Payments firsts then Square Payments next. Pros I feel the biggest Pro of this product is that the software is free and the hardware (card reader) is free and if the user needs to purchase one it is under $10.00. Another pro about this product is that it does not charge a monthly fee, rather it deducts 3% as a service fee from each transaction and the funds may be directly deposited into the users bank account immediately. Cons Overall this software is relatively easy to use, however it is not as user friendly or have the features that PayPal has for the ease of business transactions (selling merchandise and/or services). I like the features Square provides and continue to use them at all of our local meetings. Pros It is easy to use. Square provided us the swipe ability for taking credit card payments whenever we held local events and was able to sell our books at the event. Cons Sometimes the swipe did not "take." I would have to enter the payment manually. There was no diagnostic in the app (at least that I could find) that would assist me in determining "why" it would not work. This did not happen all of the time. But it would seriously slow down our transaction speed. It puts all my credit card sales in one place and it easy to operate. Cons I use Square Installments, and I do kind of feel like Square is double dipping on this. They charge the client interest (though I love that it isn't compounding interest), AND I pay more on my end. December 16, 2020 5.0 Square Payments has made it easy to capture donations at off-site events, such as our annual golf outing or gala. Instead of traveling with bulky laptops, we can use Square to easily collect donations from attendees. This makes it easy for us to sell raffle tickets or finalize silent auction sales on the spot. It has really increased our ability to connect with donors and instantly receive donations instead of solely relying on cash and checks. Pros Square Payments is easy to use on every level. Both the app and the device are extremely user friendly and it doesn't take any formal training to learn. Anyone can run the devices and collect payments with ease. This functionality is a major bonus for nonprofit events which rely heavily on volunteers. You do not need a super savvy staff member to manage this process. You can include volunteers without worrying about it! Cons We have experienced minor technical glitches where the app will slow or stall, but it happens rarely and a simple reboot is usually all it takes to get up and running again. Pros The best thing about Square is their ability to connect your one account with their plethora of vendors across the U.S. Even when you're buying from a vendor for the first time, they're able to connect your information to their conveniently and digitally. Cons For me, there aren't any cons about Square. It has helped many small businesses I've encountered that are small enough that using a card could be cumbersome in their processing fees. The first capacity is to accept payments for a family member's estate sale. This seemed to encourage purchases, as many folks arrive to such sales without large amounts of cash on hand. Secondly, I have used the system on occasion to accept payments from renters in my investment property. I had no other way to process a debit payment for an overdue rent amount, and the payment was not able to be issued via cashier's check. Overall, it is quick and easy, but does come with relatively substantial fees unless you have a subscription to the monthly service.
