I use the Equipment Watch daily. It has evolved over the 14 years I have been a user.

Pros: It has become easier to use over the last couple years. Being able to store my equipment for easy access and to add and remove from my groups faster is a plus. I use the book mostly for recouping costs for extra work on our many contracts. I find the results of the printed pages and information on them, is generally satisfactory and detailed enough, to get payment for the equipment use from the owners/customers I present them to.

Cons: It is still a bit tedious to search for random equipment that meets my needs for an estimate of work for customers. I found that without an equipment model number or manufacturer, I cannot tell what the features on most of the equipment. I have not the new search 2.0 yet, but it still looks like mfgr and model is still needed. I would like to be able to search by weight limitations or volumes for some pieces without trial and error. That takes much time. I may not be as proficient at using EW as I should be.

Pros: Large volume of information available on a very wide variety of equipment.
The availability of market data has helped me determine when to sell, at what price, and if I am getting a fair trade in value. I also use the ownership and operating costs to determine the impact of idling on my fleet and to help model the cost of new fleet scenarios.
The ability to upload your fleet saves time when you want to compare one location to another or a specific equipment class.

Cons: Data is limited to the US market, I have equipment in both Canada and Mexico and would like to see the platform expand to other countries.
It takes several months for new machines to show O&O data.

Overall: It has saved me time researching costs and values of equipment. I also perform a lot of cost model comparisons for my companies sites and I find the availability of data to be extremely useful for these tasks. I also like the engagement of the staff in learning what the consumers needs are and then taking action on that information.

We use EquipmentWatch regularly to assist with setting residuals and doing annual audits.

Pros: Very user friendly, easy to see the compareables that are part of the analysis. Easy to find lots of types of equipment.

Cons: We have noticed that values tend to be on the high side, particularly for equipment that doesn't sell frequently.

Overall: Industry and equipment values

User friendly interface and good customer support.

Pros: Search function is fast and efficient. The ability to run a search for key words is very beneficial.

Cons: "Compare Models" function. It would be very helpful to know which comparable models have either a costs/rental rate blue book, values & market data, verification, retail rental, or specs. I resort to opening multiple windows to make my own comparison.

Overall: Be able to cost out equipment usage on the project.

Pros: It has a good coverage of the equipment. Data presentation is good to recognize the trend. The monthly report is timely (not so late as ROUSE). If it can be connected with such info as Top-Bid it will be more informative. Also, API connection with CRM will be useful.

Cons: I do not have information on the source where and how they collect data. I feel there is less information regarding Japanese equipment. Sometimes the process from top page to sign in is troublesome.

Overall: We are buying and selling used equipment. We can evaluate the current value of our inventory through a 3rd party (independent) source. Also, I can foresee the profitability as to each transaction when our sales representatives send me the leads.

Over all is it good, in the past the company that I work for only used it for one function

Pros: That it is very extensive. There is a very large selection of machinery. Did not try competitors...

Cons: The confusing nature of the way it is set up. I really miss all the print products, such as blue book and last bid.

Pros: Ease of Use and a comprehensive listing of equipment used for heavy and civil construction. we have used to justify costs for DOT and other government extra work. we are starting to utilize other features for internal cost and market research on equipment costs

Cons: some of our equipment is specialized and requires either utilizing similar equipment type or developing our own cost based on following EquipmentWatch's model

Overall: Single Source for access to equipment costs for the civil construction industry

Pros: Once you get familiar it works great and is east to use. The staff is great when support is needed. Quick response is critical because when you need you're always in a rush Custom rates have been a big help as well.

Cons: It tends to be a little cumbersome when looking up special items. More categories in some areas and less in others. Maybe this is needed but as a typical sitework contractor categories don't seem to fit my heavy use areas.

Overall: A necessary tool for industry standard equipment cost verification.

The site is easy to navigate and has a wide catalog of all heavy equipment.

Pros: A clean printable report of the equipment. The report makes it easy to provide information to the client for pricing equipment on the project.

Cons: The PDF print page should have the hourly FHWA hourly ownership cost included. This would help provide the information to the client.

Pros: The best part of the software was that we were able to charge more for the equipment used on force account work.

Cons: there are times when the software does not include a specific piece of equipment and it is hard to find a comparison product.

Overall: the ability to charge more for the use of owned equipment
