### "Love it, bought it for life"

February 7, 2025

5.0

I tried out Grammarly along side ProWritingAid and found it better meets my needs. Of course, both have developed significantly since then. PWA feels more grounded and gave me better suggestions than the competition. I bought a lifetime subscription. I have it turned on, on most webpages and in Outlook, Word and PowerPoint. It supplements the MS editor well. When I have needed help, the support team have always been great.

Pros

I like that it integrates with my favourite apps and is available whenever I am typing.

Cons

It is brilliant for novelists and other fiction writers. I would love some of their functionality focused on business and non-fiction writing.

### "The Write of Passages"

September 3, 2025

5.0

One of the best tools I use, if not daily, cetainly weekly. I've enjoyed using it from day one and will carryyon using it.

Pros

Prowritingaid is not just a plain writing tool, I've used a few of them and wasted a small fortune. No, its also great for checking readability, pointing out cluncky sentences, over used words, bad sentence structure, checking for plagiarism and so much more. All of which go to help the writing and learning experience.

Cons

The thing I least like regarding Prowritingaidis, it appears to require a reasonable large piece of text to check. Small stretches are generally ignored unless you join them to a larger paragraph. Also, the filing sytem I find it awkward at times, it's not as immediate as might be to locate a previously filed document.

### "Helps in writing development "

Nice causes discontinuity in my writing. Often changes meaning and disrupts the meaning but helps more than it causes issues.

Pros

I like the capability but my internet causes issues as it is unreliable hope to get upgraded soon.

Cons

Requires use of the internet. Should be more robust in the options I purchased from Oxford as it kept bringing up the mac dict which is useless and it does not bring up them anymore which is actually a plus. When it brought up a dictionary, it changed my stories. Causing issues.

### "Features are needed - so Pro don't go outdated."

March 30, 2025

5.0

it helped me alot with alot of my task during my studies and it is still doing so during my normal daily task,

Pros

New features like paraphrasing and correcting, and repetition.

Cons

Switching authors in the web settings reveals a range of writing styles, making it difficult to recognise each writer's unique style without a reference. ProWritingAid tends to lag behind in reflecting market changes. Due to the prevalence of AI in our time, much of what is happening involves AI creation. nevertheless - AI Detection. where ProWritingAid falls is its algorithms is being flagged by those wannabes sites - starving to sell for uncreative AI users. What I wish for Pro is it has a humanizer .. Sparks are nice .. Yet, if someone is creative enough... not needed

I still use Grammarly because they have a phone app. If PWA gets a phone app, I might delete Grammarly. I had an issue with Grammarly not loading up all suggestions years ago and that is how I found PWA. Grammarly's techs could not fix the issue but after about 6 months it cleared up on its own. I also use the plagiarism in Grammarly because it is free.

### "One of the best editing softwares"

March 17, 2025

I've been using ProWritingAid for years. It has helped me improve the quality of my writing significantly. I've tried quite a few, and this is undoubtedly one of the best.

Pros

The rewrite option, grammar, and spelling suggestion corrections, and style suggestions. The summary/report of an entire document is awesome, too.

Cons

It's a great tool, but I can't afford the premium version. However, I appreciate the free version very much.

### "The Standard for Authors"

November 16, 2024

5.0

Wonderful. Took a small amount of time to get used to it after years on Word. But once acclimated, and it wasn't a hard learning curve, it has become by far my favorite. I recommend it to all my friends who write, sometime with the fervor of an evangelist.

Pros

I'm a pantser, trying to be more organized and become a little more of a planner. PWA makes that simple, and made my writing more impactful.

Cons

I wish there was an option to move from Premium Lifetime to Pro Premium Lifetime, through payments instead of only a lump sum. I would immediately upgrade if that was an option.

I am still new to use it but I use Atticus and it has been good so far.

Pros

I love that it picks up the simplest things that I wouldn't have caught.

Cons

I wish the box could be made smaller or even the ability to move it to my other screen, it covers some of the text that it is suggesting that I change - I can't see the full sentence and have to move it side to side to see it all.

### "One of the best investments for a writer"

September 1, 2024

5.0

Extremely positive. It's been a major help with my career over the years, as I started out as a freelance writer. To this day, I promote a writing culture at my company and writing is part of my everyday responsibilities. It's not a flawless experience, but it's reasonably close to being one.

Pros

One of the best ways to improve your writing is to just do it. But doing it blindly won't make you spot mistakes. ProWritingAid helped me do just that. It's one of the main things that improved my writing for the Web skills. I've been using it since 2018 and I'm using it to this day, even though my usage is getting more and more limited. My main goal when starting to use it was to simplify my writing style and make it more understandable for people, without sacrificing the quality of my content. With a few (out of LOADS) of reports, ProWritingAid helped me do that, and more. I use the Readability, Style, and Grammar reports. for everything I write, and then other reports depending on the situation and needs. I love that ProWritingAid has a lifetime plan and it's a tool well worth the money.

Cons

The Web app has bugs here and there, but most of them get patched quickly. The uptime is high, probably 99.99%, but there have been a few instances when the site was down when I wanted to use it. It's not a deal-breaker, but it's also noticeable enough. And finally, the Chrome extension is rather unreliable and limited. I don't take it as a major flaw because it's just an extra feature on top of the Web app - but if it exists, it should work well. And it doesn't.

It offers more at a cost of some simplicity and the browser extension issues. I also preferred paying a one-time license rather than subscribing to Grammarly.

### "Way better than Grammarly"

July 30, 2019

5.0

ProWritingAid has helped reduce the time it takes to get from first to final draft by half. Our content and copy is written by many people, with all kinds of writing backgrounds. It used to be a chore to pinpoint typos and makes corrections. Now, after running a few reports and working through them, we get great, readable SEO content in a fraction of the time.

Pros

I love ProWritingAid because there are so many helpful reports that allow you to get as detailed as you want when editing. I use the summary, style and grammar reports all the time. When I'm working on a larger marketing piece, I use the readability, pacing and other reports to help tighten my writing up. I also love how well the software integrates with Microsoft Word and Google Chrome. And one of my all-time favorite features is the word explorer. It's helped me pick the perfect word or phrase on numerous occasions. It's also nice that it's regularly updated with new and improved features.

Cons

I wish there was a way to use this on a mobile device. I'm writing this review on my phone, and I feel like I'm flying blind with ProWritingAid there to let me know about spelling, grammar and readability mistakes. I'd never produce marketing material on my phone, but I certainly write enough emails that I want to look and read professional.

At the time, we were using Grammarly and paying for it every month. Because it was only available online, I didn't use it that much. As soon as ProWritingAid offered a lifetime version, I jumped on the opportunity and I'm glad I did. As a nonprofit, we have limited budget and it's hard to continue to pay for numerous software solutions month by month. ProWritingAid has allowed us to create and edit great content without constantly renewing a tool we hardly used before.

### "ProWritingAid gives professional tools to everyone"

June 29, 2022

5.0

I have edited over 3,000,000 words using this software, over several years. It is formidable, and thorough. From novels to articles, blog posts to emails ProWritingAid delivers the goods. It is flexible, and you can denote both tone and style.

Pros

For instance, picking an Academic Style, with a formal tone, vs a Romance Novel and casual style. The suggestions can be modified according to native language as well! An excellent tool, and one I use every day.

Cons

It has a bit of a tendency to initially be very conservative regarding passive / active voice and reading levels. While this is good for casual articles, when using it to proof academic papers, it can be too aggressive. Luckily, it is tunable. Another thing is that having to pay an additional fee to purchase 'credits' for use in detecting plagiarism is a bit problematic.

### "Would not be writing if not for PRW"

August 8, 2024

5.0

With English, my fifth language, writing books and doing copy for WEB sites is challenging. I use Word 365 which includes an editor, but I found Pro Writing Aid better. I tried the other Grammarly too but did not like their support. So, PRA for me, anytime, then it got better! They upgraded it with a few things that I thought would be great and many that I never knew I needed. So, for me, Pro Writing Aid all the way for authoring my books and copy for my web pages.

Pros

It does what it promises with overstating its functions like most advertises do nowadays.

### "My Thoughts On PWA"

January 24, 2024

5.0

I am enjoying PWA. I have been a user for over two years - I am a journalist and creative writer - I put it through its paces the first year and a half to see where and how I would use it. I am still learning what it can do. There are times that PWA Everywhere can get in the way; but for the most part it is a very useful tool.

Pros

I like having someone looking over my shoulder and helping me along with spelling and grammar. It's not always right, but it is good to have options.

Cons

There are times it gets in the way and its suggestions are too far off base to be used. You can not just use it blindly you still have to think about what you are doing and what you want to convey to your audience.

### "Perfect Your Language Perfectly (but this program might tell you not to phrase it that way)"

May 31, 2021

5.0

Writing is a process that requires many disciplines, from planning, to drafting, to editing. One component of that final phase is proofreading, which is essentially the wax to a washed car, if a car were a piece of writing (and a metaphor). Without a solid examination of the final product, statements become questions without notice? See what I did there. Okay, now see what I did there? Yes, knowing the rules of grammar is necessary if you want to proofread well because bad knowledge leads to worse presentation. Fortunately, a tool like ProWritingAid shortcuts the learning and application process by making suggestions wherever it detects a problem with your mechanics. And it’s true that no program can ever replace a human proofreader (or your own proofreading eyes), as no machine understands every context in which your writing may demonstrate. But ProWritingAid and its 20+ categories for examination and recommendation sure gets pretty close. The fact that it can scrutinize your work both online and off makes it even more versatile and necessary if you care even a little about your writing professionalism.

Pros

Besides the fact that it covers basic grammar checks like style, punctuation, and sentence construction, etc., it also checks for sentence length (for variety), clichés (because everyone says they’re bad for some reason), quotes and dialogue, telling versus showing, sensory language, and more. If you’ve ever needed a solid compass to see how ready you are to hit “publish” on your blog or Amazon KDP sales page, or whatever your reason is for writing, ProWritingAid doesn’t get more stable. With very few exceptions, it examines your writing for just about any mistake you can make and gives you a report on your strengths, weaknesses, and consistencies (or lack thereof). This reporting feature is also good to show you your writing habits, in case you need to change any. The program also links you to grammar rules if you ever need to know why it’s making a particular suggestion. This reduces the need for prior knowledge, though you’ll still want some grammar knowledge to make up for the rules that the program overlooks or doesn’t accurately detect. After all, no grammar-checking software is perfect. Not even this one. But it massages its lack into a faux perfection pretty well.

Cons

The amount of checks that ProWritingAid offers is not only its strength, but also, potentially, its downfall. To put it mildly, using ProWritingAid is a mental exercise that can sap your energy if you insist on using every feature for every instance. For example, I can spend anywhere from one to three hours examining a single piece of writing if I go through every category. By the end, I’m ready for a nap, or a change in procedure. Likewise, by paring down your editing process to the essentials and leaving out the extras (do you really care about clichés?), you run the risk of missing out on a valuable sensory suggestion or a misused homonym if that falls out of your routine. For short works of 1000 words or less, you probably won’t feel that slow agonizing sap of energy by the time you get to the 22nd category (Pacing), but if you’re writing a book (as I sometimes do), you’ll feel your brain go numb by Chapter 3, and by that point, you’re only an eighth of the way finished. So, you’ll want to pace yourself (hopefully better than what the 22nd category may reveal about your writing). There also seems to be a slight difference in features between the desktop and online versions. The online version plays better with style guides than the desktop version does. For those who work offline only, it’s important to know that.

With a tool like ProWritingAid one can only have a great day in the office. The ability to make corrections and integrate with other apps while using this software has saved me time and increased productivity in the company.

Pros

Grammar and spelling checks helped me improve my writing . My documents turn out to be more readable and understandable just because of this amazing app.

Cons

It has slower editing when you add a large segment of text to edit which can be time consuming especially when the document is urgently needed.

### "ProWriting Aid is a Pro Writers tool!"

February 20, 2023

5.0

I've used ProWriting Aid for years now and I love it. It's so handy to have the browser extension so I can use it wherever I'm writing anything. Overall I really love this tool

Pros

I love that it helps improve my writing in no time at all. The suggestions can help me become a better writer too as I see myself improving over time as I use the tool. I like how it can find over used words and sentences that don't flow correctly and help me to fix them. Generally just helps to improve my writing.

Cons

Some of the spelling and grammar suggestions aren't right so I use it with Grammarly free and take suggestions on board but don't accept every one of them.

### "Pro Writing Aid - very useful"

July 27, 2021

5.0

Not business as such, but in my book series, I use this as a first step in cleaning up an initial draft, so that by the time the manuscript gets to my editor, there are fewer problems to clean up.

Pros

It's both stand alone and a plug-in for Word. Therefore I can fire it up and have it check a chapter while I am in Word, or I can have it proof the whole document while not in word. If that makes sense. It certainly helps to clean up that initial fast draft.

Cons

I'm not very fond of the subscription model. I tends to think I need to write in a classic style, but I write fantasy, and as such, I will craft sentences that this will flag. Thus I have to wade through crotch-deep false flags, versus where I actually have a problem.

### "The best there is"

July 28, 2022

4.0

Pros

ProWritingAid is the best editing program out there. It can distinguish between British and American English and is remarkably complete when you let it review an entire document at once for all that it can catch. It can catch inconsistent useage, for instance, along with wordy or muddy prose with overused words and clichés. This functionality matters most, but I also dearly love the fact that you can buy a permanent licence. I hate subscription software.

Cons

The program is best used as you write for my purposes. When it goes over an entire document with full reports after the fact, it can take a very long time to get through them all, and many of the suggestions might well be useful to a novice writer, but less so to an experienced professional who knows when to break the rules.

### "Best writing partner ever!"

June 2, 2024

5.0

ProWritingAid has been a game-changer for me. Having it there to help me out has boosted my confidence and made me more productive.

Pros

ProWritingAid is always there, wherever I am working. I am always in control, but it's nice to have the program catching errors in real time. But the best part is when I can use it to read what I've written and make suggestions about how to say it better. Sometimes I just can't think of the right word, and it comes up with something perfect.

Cons

Occasionally it gets in the way when I'm not editing, but it's easy enough to turn it off.
