### "Top of the line editing program"

July 3, 2024

Excellent. I send every manuscript I write through the program multiple times and use it extensively.

Pros

The number of editing tools is awesome and scary accurate.

Cons

The editing pop-up should be placed at the top of the page to allow users to browse the entire written page.

### "My Thoughts"

June 11, 2024

5.0

My overall experience has been wonderful. I have not found a better program. I think maybe you need to look into adding non-typical words and spellings. It doesn't like some of the spelling I use for my fantasy novel. Such as the word Fae and other mythical creatures.

Pros

It is easy to use. It does a better job often than Grammarly. I use this along with other programs and this one catches much more than my other programs.

Cons

I often use up all my free help within an hour of using it. I also can not afford to buy the program and I truly wish I could. It is a wonderful app and add-on for my browsers. I am also trying to break back into writing and this program since I found it has helped, but it's slow going when I use up all my free ads for a day.

### "Best writing partner ever!"

June 2, 2024

5.0

ProWritingAid has been a game-changer for me. Having it there to help me out has boosted my confidence and made me more productive.

Pros

ProWritingAid is always there, wherever I am working. I am always in control, but it's nice to have the program catching errors in real time. But the best part is when I can use it to read what I've written and make suggestions about how to say it better. Sometimes I just can't think of the right word, and it comes up with something perfect.

Cons

Occasionally it gets in the way when I'm not editing, but it's easy enough to turn it off.

### "My Thoughts On PWA"

January 24, 2024

5.0

I am enjoying PWA. I have been a user for over two years - I am a journalist and creative writer - I put it through its paces the first year and a half to see where and how I would use it. I am still learning what it can do. There are times that PWA Everywhere can get in the way; but for the most part it is a very useful tool.

Pros

I like having someone looking over my shoulder and helping me along with spelling and grammar. It's not always right, but it is good to have options.

Cons

There are times it gets in the way and its suggestions are too far off base to be used. You can not just use it blindly you still have to think about what you are doing and what you want to convey to your audience.

### "Write Well with ProWritingAid"

It improves my communication and saves me time and money. It is a must-have tool for writers of all genres.

Pros

It is thorough. I learn how to write with more clarity and accuracy. I can clean up my writing before I hand it off to a human editor for the final editing. It saves me time and money.

Cons

The learning curve was steep when I started using the software.

### "The Best Software Investment for Writers"

May 4, 2022

5.0

I switch between many different kinds of writing: fiction, web, sales copy, and business copy. ProWriting Aid is like a live-in assistant to help me keep my writing styles for each type within the necessary parameters. No second-guessing myself. It also has this really nifty tool where it analyzes your writing style and compares it to famous writers. Believe it or not, this is more than a gimmick! This teaches you what works in their writing which means you can extrapolate how to make it work for you!

Pros

I loved the fact that it was fairly inexpensive to buy and that it had enough functionality for different types of writing. Everything from different fictional genres to web copy. Best of all, when ProWriting Aid has special events, you get FULL access to all of the sessions with membership. These are webinars that have loads of useful information in them and are worth buying the software just to have access.

Cons

I disagree with the metric which measures "sticky" sentences. But, I understand why it's there and while it doesn't necessarily fit with my own personal writing style, it makes me more mindful.

### "I use ProWriting Aid daily to keep my editing polished and professional"

July 28, 2022

5.0

My overall experience with ProWritingAid is excellent! It has made a definite difference in both my personal writing and my business as an editor. So much so, that I purchased the lifetime subscription. Thank you.

Pros

I find this one of the best tools for my own writing, as an author, and editing the writing of others. What I like most is that I can run reports on all aspects or specific aspects of the writing. It's like having an editorial analysis at my fingertips without having to input everything myself. This is invaluable to me.

Cons

What I like least is that there is a difference in American and British spellings in many circumstances. These present as errors, and can be bothersome to repeatedly encounter. It would be nice to be able to select the American version or the British version of the software to avoid this issue.

Reason for choosing ProWritingAid

as stated above.

### "ProWriting Aid is a Pro Writers tool!"

February 20, 2023

5.0

I've used ProWriting Aid for years now and I love it. It's so handy to have the browser extension so I can use it wherever I'm writing anything. Overall I really love this tool

Pros

I love that it helps improve my writing in no time at all. The suggestions can help me become a better writer too as I see myself improving over time as I use the tool. I like how it can find over used words and sentences that don't flow correctly and help me to fix them. Generally just helps to improve my writing.

Cons

Some of the spelling and grammar suggestions aren't right so I use it with Grammarly free and take suggestions on board but don't accept every one of them.

### "Excellent tool for proofreading "

July 12, 2022

5.0

As a researcher, I must routinely compose scientific articles and academic reports. In my case, I frequently make errors in my writing, such as misspellings, grammatical errors, incorrect word choice, punctuation errors, improper sentence structure, etc. I address these issues by utilizing ProWritingAid. It addresses the majority of the aforementioned concerns and enhances the quality of writing.

Pros

It has a special feature known as "data visualization" that helps to assess my writing. This feature really helps me to identify the lacking in my writing. It works nicely with Microsoft Word, a variety of browsers, and email. The most incredible thing about it is that it can recognize an incorrect word in a sentence and then offer the correct term to replace it. In addition, tools like spell check, grammar correction, sentence structure suggestions, and word suggestions all come in handy when I'm writing essays.

Cons

The most annoying thing is that if I make a sentence with passive voice, it unnecessarily detects this structure and suggests changing the passive voice structure. In academic writing, I have to often use the passive voice structure. Secondly, I would say it is costly as compared to other similar tools, especially for the student.

### "Useful software with much room for improvement"

March 3, 2023

4.0

I don't regret the purchase but I am not sure there is enough of a ROI compared to standard grammar and spell checks. I mainly purchased it for stylistic advice but that aspect still leaves a lot to be desired. In the age of AI one would expect more intelligent suggestions analysis of similar documents, specific conventions within that style of writing.

Pros

Integrated well into Word for Mac and hasn't crashed on me so far. Compared to the market leader I managed to get this license at a more attractive price. The support does respond to queries and there seems to be an effort to bring users together in a writing community.

Cons

The UX can be quite confusing. The scores seem to be very arbitrary and differ between the quick editor and the full editor. You can select the type of document you are writing like "academic essay" but the stylistic suggestions are not adjusted for that. References are flagged as spelling errors. Passive voice constructions are always flagged as undesirable. Sometimes the tool recommends changing a phrase/word to a more formal expression only to afterwards recommend changing it to a less formal expression.

### "Best program for editing"

June 8, 2021

5.0

Not only does this do a great job of highlighting a large variety of issues, there are also explanations and consistent usage has helped authors learn better writing habits in their future manuscripts. This company also has excellent customer service and continues to improve and add to the software. They also have an option for an extremely affordable lifetime purchase. By far better than other popular programs.

Pros

The sheer number of options and variety of checkers in this program are incomparable. Absolutely the best program to use to prepare your writing. Two of my favorite features are the repeats and echoes. It does an excellent job of identifying repetitive phrases and words, and the same words used too closely together. It's harder for a human editor to pick up on that as consistently as a computer and in this specific area, I feel it does a better job than a person. Obviously no program can replace a human, but this one does a fabulous job of trying.

Cons

I really have a hard time thinking of something bad to say about this software. I think there can be some improvements made in style choices and the thesaurus, but they aren't bad. I just feel like maybe they can be upgraded slightly.

### "Useful software if you know what you want from it. "

July 13, 2022

5.0

Useful software if you know what you want from it. I couple it with macros and other professional software to perform my duties in my fiction editing business. I will be buying it again, as I have integrated the parts I like into my daily working.

Pros

Things I really like and use daily: 1. Check for echoes 2. Repetition/word phrase overuse. 3. Punctuation check

Cons

Things I don't like or use: 1. Working on long documents is difficult 2. Analyzing the whole document is hard, and it crashes my word, this caused me to lose time and money. Hence why I only choose the above checks. 3. The style guides were difficult to set up, so i never used it to its full potential

### "ProWritingAid review. Notes from a small island (in the south pacific)"

September 11, 2019

5.0

I've used the premium version for 18 months and have based my comments on my experience in that time. I use it both for work and for some of the creative writing I do. I'm a massive fan of using technology to improve how I work and ProWritingAid is right up there as one of the most useful tools I use. It makes a significant difference to how long it takes me to write a document. I write fewer iterations and am more confident in the quality of my first draft because of it. I feel like it's not just correcting my grammar, but also helping me to become a better writer. They have a free version as well as premium versions offering: - monthly subscription - yearly subscription - lifetime license (approx 3.5x annual subscription) I would strongly recommend it to anyone writing at work or at home. In my view, it is significantly better value than other editing and reviewing software on the market.

Pros

I like the fact that I can use it everywhere. It's available in Word, Chrome, and Google Docs. There's even a desktop application. I like the real-time checker that identifies the quick fixes. But the real value is in the deeper reports. Don't be put off by the number of them - my advice is to have find out which ones you find most useful. My favourites are: 1. Thesaurus report, which lets me quickly find better words to use. 2. Readability report, which focuses me on areas that I can improve. 3. Sticky sentences report, which helps me get straight to the point. Once you know which ones you use most, you can combine them (it's called a Combo report) and with one click, you've got detailed analysis of your writing.

Cons

All software has pros and cons. While ProWritignAid is no different, it is worth saying that they do seem focused on continual improvement. My main criticisms over the last 18 months have been: 1. No integration with Google Docs - this has now been released and works well. 2. It can be daunting how much it tells you about your writing but this is necessary - writing is complex. The more you use it, the better it gets. 3. When I was using the free version, the 500-word limit caught me out a few times. It's not an issue for any premium users, however.

### "Pro Writing Aid - very useful"

July 27, 2021

5.0

Not business as such, but in my book series, I use this as a first step in cleaning up an initial draft, so that by the time the manuscript gets to my editor, there are fewer problems to clean up.

Pros

It's both stand alone and a plug-in for Word. Therefore I can fire it up and have it check a chapter while I am in Word, or I can have it proof the whole document while not in word. If that makes sense. It certainly helps to clean up that initial fast draft.

Cons

I'm not very fond of the subscription model. I tends to think I need to write in a classic style, but I write fantasy, and as such, I will craft sentences that this will flag. Thus I have to wade through crotch-deep false flags, versus where I actually have a problem.

### "Great Online Editor"

June 5, 2022

5.0

PWA is one of the best investments I made this year. Though it doesn't catch all mistakes, it catches most, making it worth every penny.

Pros

ProWritingAid is one of the few subscription-based applications that works for me. When I'm writing online like I'm doing now, PWA is checking my grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style usage. Before I started using PWA, I would have to read my writing several times to catch mistakes, and unfortunately, I wouldn't catch them all because I'm not good at proofreading my writing. As I'm typing or when I'm done typing, PWA helps me edit faster. For example, if I type the same word twice next to one another, I don't have to use the keyboard to delete the second word. I just click the PWA highlight and delete the duplicate word. The same goes for if I miss an article in front of a word. PWA provides the missing word and I just click to add it. I correct most of the edits PWA suggests without using the keyboard. I also use PWA for longer-form writing. PWA has an extensive collection of editing tools for improving my sentences. It's like having a personal editor for my writing. Finally, PWA's lifetime subscription is a huge plus money-wise. App users should not have to keep paying annual fees for the same app for the rest of their life. With the lifetime subscription, I own PWA and all its future updates. I appreciate that.

Cons

I look forward to PWA working globally in all applications. It only works in online applications, but that's not a big con because I mostly write online.

### "The best there is"

July 28, 2022

4.0

Pros

ProWritingAid is the best editing program out there. It can distinguish between British and American English and is remarkably complete when you let it review an entire document at once for all that it can catch. It can catch inconsistent useage, for instance, along with wordy or muddy prose with overused words and clichés. This functionality matters most, but I also dearly love the fact that you can buy a permanent licence. I hate subscription software.

Cons

The program is best used as you write for my purposes. When it goes over an entire document with full reports after the fact, it can take a very long time to get through them all, and many of the suggestions might well be useful to a novice writer, but less so to an experienced professional who knows when to break the rules.

### "Share in the best editing program I have discovered."

September 7, 2022

5.0

Pros

It provide flexibility. With it been integrated with another program I use it will instantly highlight mistakes. If you choose you can disable that function and just write. At a later stage you can enable the function again and carry out your audit. I often do that because I do not want interruptions when I am in "the zone" if I can call it that. Their newest addition also allow for auditing where someone else assists and you provide a link for the other person to assist with auditing. There is also provision to make changes without changing the original text. It is an amazing addition.

Cons

Currently struggling with the integration with a program called Atticus. The staff is very helpful, but it problem has not been solved. Part of the problem is that I am a writer and not a technical expert, and often it take me a lot of time to complete requests from their staff. A far more pertinent issue is that you cannot use the program if there is no electricity available. Unfortunately living in South Africa we have "load shedding" up to three times a day. From 09h00 until 11h00 this morning it happened unannounced.

### "Way better than Grammarly"

July 30, 2019

ProWritingAid has helped reduce the time it takes to get from first to final draft by half. Our content and copy is written by many people, with all kinds of writing backgrounds. It used to be a chore to pinpoint typos and makes corrections. Now, after running a few reports and working through them, we get great, readable SEO content in a fraction of the time.

Pros

I love ProWritingAid because there are so many helpful reports that allow you to get as detailed as you want when editing. I use the summary, style and grammar reports all the time. When I'm working on a larger marketing piece, I use the readability, pacing and other reports to help tighten my writing up. I also love how well the software integrates with Microsoft Word and Google Chrome. And one of my all-time favorite features is the word explorer. It's helped me pick the perfect word or phrase on numerous occasions. It's also nice that it's regularly updated with new and improved features.

Cons

I wish there was a way to use this on a mobile device. I'm writing this review on my phone, and I feel like I'm flying blind with ProWritingAid there to let me know about spelling, grammar and readability mistakes. I'd never produce marketing material on my phone, but I certainly write enough emails that I want to look and read professional.

At the time, we were using Grammarly and paying for it every month. Because it was only available online, I didn't use it that much. As soon as ProWritingAid offered a lifetime version, I jumped on the opportunity and I'm glad I did. As a nonprofit, we have limited budget and it's hard to continue to pay for numerous software solutions month by month. ProWritingAid has allowed us to create and edit great content without constantly renewing a tool we hardly used before.

### "The best software of its kind"

April 20, 2021

4.0

I personally find the Grammar and Spelling filters on the ProWritingAid checker to be most relevant to my personal needs. I would love to see ProWritingAid keep expanding and refining those particular checks! Right now, I feel that the software focuses more on passive voice and optional stylistic refinements than necessary while failing to catch some fairly obvious typos, but I have confidence that the software will just keep improving over time.

Pros

As a full-time editor, I get the editing software question almost weekly. I like to think of editing software as Microsoft Word's spelling and grammar check on steroids—it's a very similar process, but much more thorough. ProWritingAid is a fantastic last line of defense against rogue typos and subtle style errors.

Cons

Many users don't understand that editing software can't be used as a substitute for human eyes on their manuscript. Accepting all of ProWritingAid's changes without reviewing them will result in a stilted, strange manuscript! Instead, for best results, review changes individually, evaluating whether you feel that each change is relevant and necessary for your manuscript. This is also a great way to identify areas for improvement in your writing and improve over time! I would love to see ProWritingAid one day check for errors while users type or underline errors within the body of a Word document (as they do on their online interface) but I understand that their MS Word integration is new and features along those lines may be coming in the future!

### "ProWritingAid gives professional tools to everyone"

June 29, 2022

5.0

I have edited over 3,000,000 words using this software, over several years. It is formidable, and thorough. From novels to articles, blog posts to emails ProWritingAid delivers the goods. It is flexible, and you can denote both tone and style.

Pros

For instance, picking an Academic Style, with a formal tone, vs a Romance Novel and casual style. The suggestions can be modified according to native language as well! An excellent tool, and one I use every day.

Cons

It has a bit of a tendency to initially be very conservative regarding passive / active voice and reading levels. While this is good for casual articles, when using it to proof academic papers, it can be too aggressive. Luckily, it is tunable. Another thing is that having to pay an additional fee to purchase 'credits' for use in detecting plagiarism is a bit problematic.

### "ProWritingAid is Only Worth For Fiction Writers"

June 17, 2022

4.0

This tool is worth the effort assuming that you compose fiction broadly. It's the best grammar checker for fiction journalists as a result of its local help for Scrivener and extra composing reports which other sentence structure checkers don't offer. It's likewise worth the effort assuming that you esteem extra bits of knowledge about your composition, for instance, word-decision, similar sounding word usage, and so on. In the event that you don't compose fiction widely, it is as yet a helpful grammar checker given it fits around your composing work process. Indeed it has a few peculiarities, however, it's a reasonable and exact sentence structure checker for most writers

Pros

Essential writing tool for fiction writers, in-depth review of your writing, great value for money, low CPU consumption, no monthly fee, and reports are very much insightful.

Cons

Slower than other grammar checkers, the free version has its limitations, no Android version of the software, it gives unnecessary suggestions to improve, not integrated with Google Docs, and reports can be confusing and overwhelming.

### "It's not an alternative. It's your first choice."

5.0

I feel like I am in the learning process, and I can see how much I can write things well. I am happy with that experience. Everything is easy to follow, and it's pretty clear with the point. I couldn't expect more.

Pros

It's more than fixing mistakes. Not simple as tap here and tap there, and your writing will look like you are professional in that job. It gives you the knowledge and the possibility to learn during your essay. I like how the service represents a mistake, with arguments and tips. Also, in the app window, you can view all your success and effort you must invest to be good enough in writing. You have access to the complete education process. You can follow your engagement directly from the App window while typing. It has a live view of the writing process from the Goal tab. I like it.

Cons

The app window on the Goal tab is bean little confusing for me. It's very useful, but the look is messy on the first view. It's a subjective experience and doesn't mean it's not right.

### "Peace of mind that follows you around"

October 14, 2021

5.0

Pros

First of all, contrary to other similar software I used in the past, this one doesn't slow my computers to a crawl. It does everything it says, does it well, and offers a web version as well as an installable version which can be conjured to use within most windows applications. Great for my Scrivener workflow.

Cons

Bit bare-bone and the windows app seems bulky and clumsy to use at times but under the hood it packs a lot of powerful features and quality tools

### "ProWritingAid for Pros that write."

July 30, 2021

5.0

I believe I have improved my writing, especially in documentation and emails.

Pros

This has helped me improve my English over the past year. I find I get fewer suggestions from PWA. I still get plenty. :-) I'm using this via plugins in several apps. (Most that they support.) I've not had a single problem in over a year of using it like this.

Cons

If I'm editing a large email or document, it can slow down what appears on the screen. I realize that's because it's sending it to their servers. Sometimes this is really fast, so I think it's \*really\* the speed of my internet.
