I'd been a paying client with Grammarly for years, but my experience with PWA during the trial period alone made me a convert, and I haven't looked back since. Fantastical product! Pros ProWritingAid is an incredibly comprehensive editing software. How many of its editing categories you look at and implement is up to you and how much time you have available, but they're always there. The software stands head and shoulders above competitors in this regard. It's also, for the budget-conscious, a lot more affordable. True value for money - the best investment anyone who works with words in any capacity can make! Cons Not sure if it's a glitch, but sometimes when I accept an edit, then undo, it's unable to. Also, it doesn't catch every single grammar mistake (9 times out of 10 it does, though), so I'd advise to have the free version of Grammarly installed as a backup. Feedback is excellent. Cons This software will not do the magic. I would still recommend it to someone who is looking for an affordable text processor. Pros You can try it for free to see if it's a good fit for your needs. Google Chrome and Microsoft Word integrate well with the software. It helps me appear more professional in my writing. With this software, you can write fiction, business, academic, or even blog and create content for any purpose. The reporting feature can also help you see your writing habits, so you can adjust them if necessary. I use the readability, pace, and other reports when working on a large article piece. Cons Apart from the fact that Grammarly and Wordtune are better than it, I don't have anything negative to say about it. While it's great, I could easily replace it with Grammarly and Wordtune. Pros ProWritingAid brings a lot of useful tools under one roof: grammar, style, readability, and other diagnostic tests to help make your writing as lean, focused, and active as possible. I love it. Cons ProWritingAid can be a bit buggy sometimes. When trying to use the comprehensive mode to run all the diagnostics at once, it can crash -- so make sure you check compatibility for your computer before making the jump. It also seems to "uncheck" items that you have deemed ok or have marked for skipping. Still, it's a great suite of writer tools for proofreading and editing content. Pros ProWriting Aid has many great features, and it’s constantly improving. I love its readability analysis, spelling, and grammar checker. In fact, I like ProWriting Aid analysis more than I liked Grammarly’s. Cons I wish ProWriting Aid would provide a Microsoft Office add-on for Mac users (I use a Mac). A install file for Mac users would be highly appreciated as well. Pros The LinkedIn feature is great, but still not as efficient as Grammarly. However, I appreciate the low CPU consumption by ProWritingAid complared to Grammarly. Cons The LinkedIn feature is not always accurate and ProWritingAid does not seem to be fully optimised with Gmail. July 31, 2019 5.0 I use this for my writing all the time because I frequently drop into the passive voice without knowing it - this software makes my writing more dynamic. Pros It’s easy to use. It gives me clear directions as to what is wrong and how to fix it. Plus it gives the option to NOT fix it, if you intended something to be a certain way for effect. My hope was that ProWritingAid would do that for me. But now I feel a little silly. I would not recommend this to a friend who wants to be a great writer, but would highly recommend it to a friend that wants their errors caught, and wants to be a slightly better writer. ProWritingAid did not set my expectation. It was my own. While unfair, I can't help it. It was a letdown to realize it will never turn, me, an average writer into a good writer, let alone a great writer. Pros The integration with chrome and the real-time feedback is awesome. It constantly reminds me to write in active voice, which is something I know I need to do! This and its ability to reduce my use of adverbs and catch grammar mistakes are the three things I feel I've paid for. For the lifetime price that I paid during their coronavirus discount, I feel it was worth the money. Cons If you are writing a long article, or email, where prowritingaid is also making lots of suggestions, it can slow chrome down significantly. It also allows analyzing various mertrics such as readability of the content, tone or voice, etc. which can be useful for the professional writers. I would also suggest an option for a slimed down menu selection as a possible option. This works well if the writing has had a less powerful checker like Word applied beforhand.
