The software has worked flawlessly. With it, I get my work done quickly and easily. As I said, for some reason, the work (at least, this part of my work) almost seems fun when using PDF-XChange. Pros Like most folks, I frequently need to view PDF files as this is how most documentation is deployed. On top of that, I also need to print out Microsoft Word documents and combine the files together into user manuals, as well as edit them. This software lets me do all of that and more. Even though PDF software might have the features you need, I want them to be intuitive. It's frustrating to spend a lot of time hunting and searching for what you need. PDF-XChange has done a pretty good job making it easy to accomplish what you set out to do. Finally, I guess that I am a "power-user". I get annoyed when I cannot customize the user interface so that just the tools I want are quickly available. For PDF software, this becomes even more important because I want to be able to easily configure the screen layout for reading different types of documents -- and the navigation tools have to be convenient and intuitive as it seems I'm rarely reading sequentially through the pages like a novel. I'm happy to say that PDF-XChange allowed me to customize the user interface with an extremely high degree of flexibility. It seems to let you configure almost anything - but, I didn't find that it was too difficult to figure out. Overall, I can't speak too highly of their software. Cons I'm struggling to find a fault with the software. Thus far, I haven't found a feature that's disappointed me. Oh, I know one, it would be great if they offered a version for the Mac OS! Alternatives considered [Nitro PDF](https://www.capterra.com/p/167449/Nitro/) Reason for choosing PDF-XChange I had used Nitro PDF a number of years ago and though it was the "next best thing to Adobe Acrobat". Using their trial software this summer, I found it was still relatively intuitive and had all the features I wanted. But, it crashed too many times. Whether printing documents from Microsoft Word or combing PDF documents together, it crashed again-and-again. I was eventually able to get through my work, but it was difficult and frustrating. For the higher price (but still much lower-priced than Adobe), I expected much more from Nitro. Gone are the days that you can find it highly discounted at Fry's Electronics. I just couldn't pay full price for software that crashed this much. Nothing else seemed better than Nitro, though, until I found PDF-XChange. It does everything I need. Allows more customization. Hasn't crashed. And is cheaper to boot. No regrets with my decision to go with PDF-XChange. Review Source AH Andrew H. Sales and Estimating Manager Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Better than some but missing essentials" September 17, 2024 3.0 Working on a digitizer originally, this was far superior by allowing measurement information to be stored on the plans digitally but it's missing the mark when it comes to compiling total takeoff data. I still use it to measure 1 pagers but there are better software programs out there for larger, more complex jobs for sure. Pros The user interface was very easy on my computer and I was able to measure manually fairly quickly overall. Coming from using a digitizer or the measuring pen, it made a significant difference in gathering and storing takeoff information. Cons There's no way to find the totals of what I measured without an excel sheet full of formulas. It's ok for small jobs but the more complex the sheet, the longer it takes to gather all that information. Review Source LL Léandre L. Pros This software is simple, user-friendly and extremely cost effective which is super convenient for all that it does. I am able to edit PDFs quickly and without any hassles, and that's all I ask for. Cons I have no cons to add about this software, I found it to be quite indispensable, I can't see why any business wouldn't want to try it out at least to see how much of an asset it really is. One thing you should note though, the free version does have a watermark enabled on it. It even has a signature feature. You can also copy the text found in a PDF, which is not always easy to do with this type of program. I use it to add or remove pages to a PDF file on a regular basis, and this program makes it easy to do so. Pros I use it almost daily for my work. I prefer this program because of the variety of features and the ease of use. Cons The text box feature is a little hard to navigate when you first start using it. Once you get used to it you figure it out, though. Very good experience, i find most helpful the editing, commenting and layering. For drawing take offs, i can also export measurements. Pros The measuring, layering & take off software. I can also create new PDFs and re-organise PDF pages which is essential for my job. Cons No cons so far, since we purchased a license. I would like it to remind me the scale i am using as i can often go between PDFs with different scales. I didn't want to go to the subscription-based software, and I actually ended up LOVING this software much better than I ever did with Acrobat. And that's saying a lot - I was a very brand-loyal Adobe user! Pros The interface is so easy to use - much easier than Acrobat! The menus are more easily customized, and functionality seems much easier to find. The "Add Text" feature is my favorite. It's so much easier to pinpoint exactly where I want to insert the text and then to adjust it to where I want it to be. And it is also easier to adjust the size, typeface, etc. It's so intuitive, and I like the interface better than any of its competitors. Best of all, it was so much more reasonably priced! In my office, three of us have the Tools package and one of us has the PRO package. We use it daily. I use it to prepare annotated reports for clients and redline drawings when we close out construction projects. It's so nice to have easily-manipulated tools! We've also just begun using the batch tools. I am a huge fan of this software! Cons The only thing I don't like about this software is that it does not have the ability to automatically detect fields when creating forms. The Tracker Software team has promised in the forums that it's on their list of things to implement, but has not given a definite date for this to happen. We have never had to call tech support for assistance and users pickup functionality with minimal effort. Product has saved our staff 100's of hours manipulating and organizing PDF documents. Pros The ability to quickly manipulate existing PDF's or simply create a new one from scratch was amazing. We work with thousands of in-house PDF's that are always being modified, therefor ease of use was a major requirement. Did I forgot the mention the price is 1/3 of what some of it's major competitors are charging. A commonly not used gem of a feature is the ability to shared PDF's in a library format so same PDF's are not getting overridden, therefor highly suggest using this feature if in multi users environment. Cons Creating form fields can be a little complex, but to that fact, i have not found any software that does an exceptional job of this other than Adobe Pro's auto create form fields function. Pros This software, which was good 7 years ago when I started using it, has just gotten better with each update. It supports direct editing, organizing, commenting, signing, and redaction. It integrates with Office products well. It has a good direct scanning feature. It is less "noisy" than Adobe products, not bloated, light on resources. Great search features that work within documents, across multiple open documents, or on all documents in a folder. Cons The only complaint I had over the years is that the interface was dated. It is updated now, but it is not standardized to Microsoft patterns. That said, it is not a steep learning curve or overly complicated - just takes a little exposure. Review Source GS Gary S. The ability to insert and extract pages or to combine separate PDF's into one. I like the ability to include fonts so that my page will display properly on all computers and the ability (PRO) to insert live links. Cons It is broken into several separate modules. Were it all combined, I'd give it top ratings across the board. Reason for choosing PDF-XChange I like the idea that I can update, or not, as I choose. Pros From basic PDF viewing to full document tear down and reconstruction, XChange has all the tools to make a fully PDF workflow a reality, without the brand name price tag. Cons The only warning comes early on - if you're using the free version, and you apply a Pro filter without thinking about it, it permanently stamps your document with a watermark. I have absolutely no desire to ever use Adobe again once I started using it (we use the Plus version). This program goes above and beyond what I need it for and I'm very happy to have it. I've even been able to get a couple more employees to use it here at work and at home. They are very happy with it as well. Pros I love how easy it is to use this program to edit and create PDF's. This program has significantly decreased the amount of time that I have to spend on each document. Cons The think that I like the least about this software is creating stamps. This process can be confusing and very frustrating. Once done, it works great but getting to that point is usually a challenge. I also wish that the optional maintenance fees (after the initial year of ownership) didn't cost as much. You can optimize your program for 3D print(with rotate, views, menu) from 3D programs. Pros This software have very friendly user interface, all features are intuitive. I can work with PDF files in batches. The most used features are: merge picturers or pdf files in to one document, OCR, optimalization, and a lot of types variable printing from CAD drawing . This application help me daily saving 1-2hours manual work. Licencing model is also best, I can use program on my both computers in one licence. Just get familiar with resetting settings when Windows breaks something with it's updates or when your users press one of the hotkeys without knowing what it does. Pros It's very affordable and doesn't require a subscription to use. Redaction and form editing as well as a basic digital signature are included in the feature set. Cons The bugs, so many weird occurrences that need to have the settings reset to default. It isn't a deal breaker and getting the program working is never too much of a process but for some reason either by user error or by some update bug with Windows you will have menu items disappear or a function will stop working.
