The interface won't win awards for innovative design, but it is clear, simple and effective. The controls also make it easy to monitor the size of your backup so that you don't accidentally get a pesky overcharge. Pros is, hands down, the simplest and most cost-effective backup solution I've tried to date. Installation and configuration and straight forward -- as is pricing. Cons The only downside is that I can't get away with backing up my NAS on a my single computer account. The ability to access your files anywhere has really helped me not only when I'm missing something when I travel but also when working with 2 or more computers. You just download the file from the other computer backup and you're good to go. I prefer this over Dropbox or Google Drive because I don't have to work on a specific folder for it to backup, I just organize my files the way I need and then tell iDrive which folders to backup. It's one of my most important tools for my workflow. It also has Archive Cleanup so when you delete data from your computer it also deletes from the cloud, which helps keeping the storage free and having a true backup with no old files. iDrive + Time Machine is a complete and secure backup. I have a lot invested over the years in photography that is irreplaceable, so I finally got off my butt and researched cloud backup alternatives. is at the top of the list, and I especially appreciated the Express Upload option. I opted to use that for my large drive. I received the hard drive in the mail a few days later, made the backup and sent it back. Within less than a week, it was all uploaded and ready for incremental backups. Could not have been easier. Pros Ease of getting the software set up and making initial backups. Much cheaper than paying for equivalent Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop storage space plus it provides a true backup, not just a mirrored drive in the cloud. Cons I have not run into any problems so far. Pros Very affordable for the storage you get. Easy to set up on Windows and Mac. Cons The upload speed is poor, and does not appear to use the full network bandwidth. On Windows, backups sometimes fail because of a "Service Control Manager" setting (this can be fixed but it is a faff). August 24, 2024 5.0 I recently replaced my home quality NAS with a SYNOLOGY 1522+ 5-bay NAS. I was looking for a more professional approach to mass data storage. In re-tooling my data protection plan, I quickly realized the local NAS was good, but what happened if the NAS got destroyed? Fire, Water, etc? I live in Florida, so the threat of bad weather and destruction is very real. So.....I started researching off-site data protection schemes and quickly ran across . It was highly recommended by the top tech firms so it passed my initial screening. Once I hit their site, I quickly realized this was just the service I was looking for. Easy, efficient, inexpensive and (to my suprise) the SYNOLOGY OS has an iDrive integration app already in their app store! Cha-ching! Commissioning the service was super simple. Loaded the app on my SYNOLOGY and off we went. iDrive makes it easy with simple point and click configuration and talks sealmessly with the SYNOLOGY. Within a few minutes (seemed less than that) I had my first back configured, scheduled and making it's first pitch. The first backup took a little over an hour for my 6TB of backup data. I now have it scheduled to run at 2am on Monday's and Thursday's. The much quicker incremental backup are averaging 15-20 minutes. Can't be happier with iDrive service. I honestly can't think of anything better. I guess if they wanted to improve, they could assimilate my mind, analyze my thinking patterns, then automatically signup, setup and deploy off-site backups......(just kidding, \[sensitive content hidden\] will take of that in a few years, but we don't have to worry about that yet!) Deploy as will.......YOU won't be disappointed! Pros Easy, efficient and you can schedule it to run anytime you want! Cons Nothing! Interface is quite confusing and not very appealing and it takes some getting used to. Worst part is, that I wanted to share a file, it then sends a OPT code in order to recognize the device I’m using in this case laptop, that I ALWAYS use.. anyway, the code has not reached my email within the 5 minutes you are given before expiration. I really had no time to wait second and third and forth and fifth time while frustration gets in a way I put wrong, late delivered codes then account gets locked for 24 hours !!!! Support can NOT do anything about it ! This, just is ridiculously stupid and I’m not sure how could this even fly in professional settings of any such services?! Pros Priced competitively.
