Both as a recruiter and as a potential applicant. Its by far the most powerful when you look at other app based job sites (Indeed, Reed, CV library etc) this one beats the rest on market volume, design/layout and ease of use. The cons listed above are the only pitfalls I see, but overall this is still my go too platform. Pros \-Great search functions, extremely detailed to the point you can hunt for candidates from specific industries/company's or university's (as a recruiter) - Good auto searches if you are an applicant looking for a new job. Many of the suggested roles suit my skillset -Highly used, so the market is very active. Cons \-Expensive, if you are a recruiter to use the advanced functions you are looking at thousands of pounds a year. This is fine for big orgs but if your a small start up this is quite costly considering you may only be looking for a few hires each recruitment wave. -Marketing - The Linkedin marketing is frustrating, to see paid ads pushed into your inbox under the guise of a message. Or Linkedin trying to upsell extra services by messaging you directly. Even once you turn this off in the settings they still find their way through. Frustrating to say the least. Often jobs found are old, or even out of date, and they are not well matched to my searches. I am still unsure how I even ended up with an account, which I think dates back to when I first graduated from Oxford University, and I have trouble accessing my account, which I am sure is itself out of date, as a result, which causes me to both question its reliability for making professional connections with colleagues/businesses and for researching applicants seeking employment. I find its tactic of periodically e-mailing me to tell me I have been 'searched' by however many people/businesses per week or month or their generic term 'recently,' to be a give away that LinkedIn Jobs is very much trying to hook and tease its users into using it more, and overall, sadly, it simply comes across as yet another, effectively, social media platform, which yields very little merit. In fairness, I do know some people who have had some limited success through it, but so far as I am aware, this is not the majority experience. A positive takeaway from it seems to be rare, and I personally have neither gained employment (or employee) nor made professional connection through it. Furthermore, as one's resume is likely to carry more personal details than one would normally put on other social media platforms, it opens more opportunity for dangerous strangers to target an individual who is simply seeking work etc. Pros Theoretically, I like that there is reputedly reputable single location to both check a wide range of job openings and post job openings. Cons LinkedIn Jobs is not easy to navigate or search, which cuts down on the possibility to effectively find job openings that are a good fit, and equally, it means that if one is seeking an employee, the best fit candidates are less likely to find the job posting and apply. It definitely can help a shy person out there get over that phobia. Pros Networking really is the name of the game when it comes to any LinkedIn account. Rubbing elbows with friends of friends isn't always a bad thing when you may need that extra reference. Personally, I love the interface design of the site which makes it easier to navigate as opposed to how it operated in the past. I have found old friends and former coworkers on this platform which has been interesting and a nice surprise. Cons Depending on your industry I am not sure if you want so many details out there to share with employers, as I find LinkedIn becoming similar to Facebook. I speak for myself, I like to separate my personal from my business, so I find LinkedIn can possibly cross some boundaries once again depending on the industry you are working in. Some people out there need that overexposure in jobs like marketing or sales. I for one had to be dragged back into it, but I am not complaining this time.
