The Slack community is very active, and the owner, Saied, will answer (or at least acknowledge) all questions and requests. A few times I have attempted to work with another tool, only to find myself coming back to Skedpal the next day. The disparity feature-wise is astonishing. Pros Skedpal is a tool like no other. I have used several to-do apps over the years and most of them lacked features that would allow me to organize my personal and working life as I wished. Skedpal is a game changer. You can organize your projects/tasks/subtasks hierarchically (outline layout), add as many child tasks as you want to your tree, define time maps and preferred times to execute tasks, define budgets so as to not over-concentrate on a single subject, and much more. The main feature is the ability to click an "Update Schedule" button and let Skedpal do all the math behind the scenes to deliver a plan to your day. No more giving poor estimates to upcoming projects! With Skedpal you can see how busy you are and how feasible your deadlines are. Cons Skedpal has many features, so the most common con is its learning curve. I love learning about new tools that can boost my performance, so it doesn't bother me much. Hard to think of using anything else at this point given the complexities we all face in life and how much easier Skedpal makes it to navigate all that. It's probably most useful for people who are spending a lot of time on the computer for work. Pros Skedpal is a really, really helpful app for organizing your to-do list in a realistic way to actually get things done. Most of the time we don't have a sense of if we actually have the time to complete all the things we would like to. Skedpal fixes this by plotting out your tasks onto a calendar according to the criteria you provide (time needed to complete, priority, what time of day it can be done, etc.). What doesn't fit gets put on a separate list called "suggestions" where you have the opportunity to reschedule things. It honestly relieves a lot of stress for me knowing how my to-do's fit or don't fit into my schedule and makes it easier to focus on what's most important in the moment. Cons It has a learning curve and takes a fair amount of time to set up all your tasks in a way that is really useful. The time is well worth the effort and it saves a lot of time in the long run, but for those who are looking for a quick-fix sort of tool this isn't it. It took me a while to figure out how to use it but after I did, it quickly became the main tool I use to organise my time. Pros I love that it tries to mostly automatically schedule everything you have on your plate, saving you time. Cons It takes a while to learn how to set things up and even after using it for a a few months I feel like I haven't quite mastered it. It's also not great at handling tasks that repeat at an exact time, rather than being flexible. I also don't like that you have to sync your tasks to a calendar to get notifications. I would rather get them directly from the app. I would also like a way to have custom colours for my different categories of tasks. I have my own palette that I always use. They are very responsive and personal to any issues that come up. Pros I love that SkedPal integrates with multiple calendars and other tools. It is so easy to add tasks, events, re-prioritize and easily re-plan what is next. It also helps me see whether I can get my planned work done in a certain time frame or reprioritize. Cons It can take a bit to figure out! I feel like I am still learning the ins and outs of different features and occasionally I will want to do something that the platform does not do. That being said, the number of features and functionalities are incredible. I consider myself a fairly tech-savvy person and I love trying out new tools. I recommend this to others, but I know the complexity of the system would be overwhelming for certain colleagues - so it may not be for everyone! It allows me to have a clear view of how much work is on my plate when I discuss new projects with my manager, and more readily discuss timelines. It also lets me get my tasks and the work of scheduling them out of my head, so I can focus on what I'm doing instead of being distracted by that sort of administrative task. Pros Hands down my favorite feature is the intelligent time-blocking! I enter tasks with start and/or due dates, and give SkedPal access to see my calendar, as well as time maps for scheduling certain types or categories of work. SkedPal puts together a schedule for me and generates a calendar. Poof! I know what to do and when to do it. AND it tells me if I'm over-booking myself, or if I skip a task, it will reschedule it for me. Cons I'm a fan of multiple levels of sub-tasks, which isn't currently supported (though I believe there are future plans to better support sub-tasks). There are plenty of ways to work around this, but it isn't ideal. Also, right now SkedPal is primarily intended to help with the immediate needs and does not schedule more than 21 days out, which means I still need to keep more extended high level schedules elsewhere to manage long term project planning. I was actually very reluctant to try the app, as I didn't believe their concept could ever work. But I gave it a shot, and I was "converted" instantly! SkedPal has literally changed my life overnight. Now I can just throw all my tasks at it and feed it with my general preferences. SkedPal does all the rest. It is better than a personal assistant! I feel like I have more time than ever before. After years of struggling, I finally found my peace of mind! Best of the rest Pros I like how Skedpal fits with what I need on most things. Skedpal schedules tasks for me and adds them to the reschedule pile when I didn’t mark the tasks done. This is important so I don’t miss anything. In addition Skedpal has great integration with Asana, the tool we use at my company, so other team members can assign me tasks and it gets scheduled via Skedpal. Cons I dislike the following: - I have to keep on pressing “Update schedule” - this should be updated whenever there is a change in schedule or a task’s due date goes over without me marking it as done. - I dislike not having a specific timer for the task itself. It is not perfect, but I love a lot of the features. I need to figure out if I can have it remind me of tasks with the mobile app. Task scheduling and batching is great. I wish the tasks could be set for less than five minutes. Some tasks are super quick. I just need the reminder. Pros I really like the task scheduling and time mapping features. The calendar combined with to do list is gold. It really helps with time management. Cons It would be nice to have an option of scheduling two tasks that are similar at the same time. Also - appearance wise - this program is not visually appealing. It would be nice to be able to customize colors more. Change fonts. Etc. it’s a functional program. Owner / 3D animator Media Production Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Excellent task scheduling software - very powerful" September 2, 2022 5.0 Overall, it's been fantastic - a few years ago I had been looking for a similar auto-scheduler for tasks and wasn't able to find one, so was literally just about to try and create my own by linking together various existing cloud-based service - but then saw a mention of Skedpal on a task-management blog and tried it out. It's totally transformed my own planning/organisation as it means I don't have to spend much time at all manually rescheduling tasks when fixed calendar appointments change, and also means I can easily check my capacity for new work/projects/tasks by creating a dummy project or set of tasks and scheduling it to see how it affects all my existing tasks and projects. The latest (v3) version of Skedpal was a huge step forward both in ease of use / UI and functionality. Pros Ability to reschedule all my tasks almost instantly, anytime (and up to 6 months in advance), fitting them around my own Google Calendar events/commitments. Huge range of customisation options and different ways that it can be used by users. It's saved me so much time that I used to spend manually planning/scheduling my flexible tasks around fixed appointments - now I can literally do this in a few seconds automatically. Cons It's a very powerful app, although it does take a lot of learning and then careful thought and planning to set it up to suit your own unique requirements (so that it will schedule things accurately). Having said that, once that stage is done it works very well indeed and the support (directly and also in the Skedpal forum/community) is excellent - the app creator is very pro-active at listening to feedback from users and updating the app to improve or fix issues. There are a few occasional glitches/bugs when scheduling tasks, but having used all the previous Skedpal versions right from beta software, the latest (v3) app is very good and (for me) these issues are pretty rare (and the Skedpal community/forum makes it easy to report these or see quickly if anyone else is having similar issues or if it's just a particular issue with my own IT setup) Review Source Michael N. Pros Nothing slips through the cracks. SkedPal knows all my tasks, their deadlines and the appoximate time they will take. I don't have to worry about forgetting something important. I have not found another tool that can claim this, and really back it up. Everything else I've used over the years has not really solved the problem of actually scheduling for your whole life. It's a game changer. I do a lot of Project Management in my life, and I've even thought about recommending the tool to folks on the teams that I manage. these are the folks who get those 1-2 week tasks assigned to them. OK, the task is assigned, now how do they schedule it into their lives? That is the part that usually doesn't go well. Pros Having a tool that ACTUALLY helps you schedule, re-schedule, and better plan your tasks will change your life. I don't know of any other tools that do this for you to the extent that SkedPal does. It is not just a pretty "Task Manager" (like OmniFocus, etc.), it helps you take all of your million-billion tasks in your work and personal life and schedule them (based on task duration, deadlines, different Time Allocations, etc.) around the rest of your "appointments," even telling you what it cannot schedule them, and giving options to "triage" the situation. Cons In the Prior version (SkedPal2) there were a lot of minor bugs and some moderate ones, as well, but the concept was well worth it, and I was still a daily user. In SkedPal3, which I am helping to Beta Test now, the concept is really implemented well, and I don't foresee the same "bugginess." SP3 also adds quite a enhancements to the concepts, as well. November 28, 2018 5.0 Using SkedPal is close to what I feel it would be like to have an assistant. There is a little learning curve but once you set your preferences, awesomeness ensues. Pros I have been searching for a tool, that I knew could exist with our current level of technology, to help me view and organize my commitments. After countless experimenting with other task/project management software, I have found SkedPal. I feel that weight has been removed from my shoulders. Because of the ingenious deployment of technology in SkedPal, I am now able to reclaim a lot of strength and focus from scheduling/planning and repurpose both to production. I have always been productive when working. I now have greater bandwidth to do more. There was always tension before planning and scheduling my work; I have a lot of commitments. No more. I have always had anxiety when reporting my estimated workload and due dates to my employer and customers. No longer. I have always liked working. I have been more realistic in my planning and better able to gauge how much can be done each week. I also don’t spend as much time time-blocking my tasks, since Skedpal does that for me automatically. So now I can work, instead of thinking about all the things I have to do. There are so many different options to choose from which you can setup to schedule automatically exactly how you would. It saves you a significant amount of energy that you would be ultimately using. Cons The learning curve. It's quite difficult to get the hang of. The reason being is because there's so much that comes into play regarding task management and scheduling. And the importance that can have in every day life. To have a software as amazing as skedpal means the developers had to think through and include a ton of features. I have hundreds of tasks I need to eventually accomplish, but instead of being overwhelmed, SkedPal ignores the ones that can wait and only shows me the ones I should do today. Amazingly refreshing and satisfying. Cons Occasionally SkedPal crashes but very rarely, and their customer service is superb. The smartphone version of SkedPal can be a bit slow, but it is very manageable. There are hundreds of subtasks that are required in developing scientific methods, setting up experiments, compiling results and preparing publications. It is an immense challenge to prioritize tasks, and prevent non-essential (but interesting) subtasks from falling to the wayside. Skedpal takes care of these challenges for me. I use Skedpal every day to get an overview of what deadlines are approaching, and how my efforts could be best distributed over the day. It helps me decide if I should work overtime to avoid a crunch later on. It allows me to distribute my focus so that I don't spend excessive amounts of time on one task. Skedpal has allowed me to work more efficiently and has improved my dependability. I recommend it to everyone who has a considerable set of subtasks to manage. Pros I purchased a skedpal account because it was the first organizer software I found that allowed me to translate my extensive personal to-do list into flexibly-scheduled tasks. It was fast to install and start using, was geared towards a single user, and it is a huge bonus that it is synchronized with google calendar. The "time maps" feature is essential, so that I can separate work days from weekends, and guarantee focus on different projects throughout the week. SKEDPAL uses artificial intelligence to schedule tasks and projects. It takes tasks from separate folders (Home, Work, Hobby, etc.) from my to-do list and appointments from my calendar and intelligently schedules them based on time maps that I provide. It then exports the finished schedule back to my calendar. You would think that an application like this would be difficult to implement and learn but it's not. There's a lot of bang for the buck here in terms of amount of time spent learning versus what it can do. There are also apps for ios and android, so it supports mobile. I would strongly recommend SKEDPAL to anyone who is looking for the next level beyond a to-do list app. Cons There is nothing about this product that I find lacking.
