Overall i really like this software. It is mostly intuitive and improving all the time. I reslly appreciate how adaptable it is.

Pros

I appreciate how quickly i can get in touch with the support staff. They are always able to answer my questions and are very receptive to feedback in suggested improvements.

Cons

It took a little while to fully understand how to work with it in our established flow. The tutorials are useful, but a full orientation with someone to go through using it in our situation would have been more helpful.

Transitioning to Shepherd has been a positive and refreshing change for our clinic. While the setup came with the usual learning curve, it gave us the chance to clean up our data and start fresh—something we truly appreciated. The system is intuitive and easy to navigate, and generating reports is now much simpler and more aligned with the metrics that matter to our business. One of the standout features has been Shepherd’s customer support team. They’re responsive, open to feedback, and genuinely committed to improving the platform. We’ve seen real updates happen within a reasonable timeframe based on user input, which makes us feel heard and valued as a clinic. System reliability has also been a huge plus...only a couple of minor hiccups in over a year, which is a major improvement from our previous PIMS. Overall, Shepherd has made our workflows more efficient, our reporting more meaningful, and our team less stressed. We're really happy we made the switch!

Pros

The platform is intuitive and easy to navigate. Generating reports is significantly simpler and now includes the key metrics we need to run our business effectively. The customer support team is responsive, helpful, and genuinely values clinic feedback—often implementing thoughtful updates within a very reasonable timeframe.

Cons

While the transition to Shepherd wasn’t without a few bumps, it provided a great opportunity to clean up our system and start fresh—which I genuinely appreciated (especially as someone who enjoys working with spreadsheets!). Since switching over a year ago, we’ve only experienced two unexpected downtimes, which is a major improvement compared to the frequent issues we had with our previous PIMS.

It is easy to learn to use most applications, the chat bot is usually very helpful when I have problems or questions and I don't want to wait on support.

Cons

I love it, and I look forward to future updates that only make this great platform even better. I learn a lot from the video updates.

Pros

Shepherd has allowed our clinic to become truly paperless (after over 10 years of trying!) because it has all the forms integrated within the software. It also integrates SMS texting and allows the comm's to be easily inserted into the patient file. The UI is extremely user friendly. In fact, many of the functions the staff could not "find" were literally found by hovering over items! I love how customizable it can be: each DVM can create their own exam template, each user can create their own shortcuts. Services can auto populate home instructions. I especially appreciate the ability for each user to provide feed back and suggested new features- and even more impressive: the Shepherd Team's responsiveness to those suggestions. Thank you for Dark Mode!

Cons

Inability to change the description of a service. Sometimes it would be helpful to be able to slightly edit the item. For example "Growth Removal <2cm" to "Growth Removal <2cm: Sternum" to differentiate from the 2nd item "Growth Removal <2cm: Right Hip" to best define estimates, communicate with client and the next day's team members. Shepherd AI functionality: rather slow and still needs refinement

We previously had Intravet as our PIMS and Shepherd is so much more user friendly. Our practice seems to run a lot smoother now that we have Shepherd. It is very difficult whenever the system goes down though. We are a walk in practice that seems more than 100 patients per day. When the system goes down for longer than about 10 minutes we really struggle running.

Pros

I really like that Shepherd is cloud based, it makes it to where we can work from anywhere including invoicing during our large animal farm calls. It is also very user friendly for the majority of things.

Cons

There are not automate statement fees. The Patient names show up above the client names when searching for client/patient When the system goes down...

Overall we've had an amazing experience with Shepherd. Our practice has been able to utilize all the features to make us more efficient. We've seen a lot of updates that have also improved our overall experience.

Pros

We love how streamlined Shepherd is. Everything is all in one place for medical records, no need to go searching for what you are looking for.

Cons

When sending text messages, right now you have to type the name of the patient into the message, instead of just being able to choose the patient name.

Simple, we love it! Everyone in the hospital loves Shepherd. We've saved money and time and we feel more confident with Shepherd than any other solution any of our team has used. We highly recommend it!

Pros

When we used Neo, we paid nearly $400 a month for access to it. And it was very limited to the partners you could integrate with. In addition, we paid over $200 per month for a third-party text messaging service. With Shepherd, our text messaging is incorporated into Shepherd, we pay nothing extra for it. We can integrate with literally dozens of other product providers and do in some cases. We do not pay Shepherd for this integration. We simply pay the product developer their fee. In all, we save over $300 a month by using Shepherd. Now this doesn't include the value associated with the fullness of the Shepherd product. It is by far, and I've looked at over seven, the best veterinary software package on the market. It is, in my opinion, "head and shoulders" above the competition. It is robust, customizable, and it's a time-saver. Do your homework and you will see, Shepherd is the best option. Our team learned it after two training sessions and "everyone" loves it. There is no going back, or moving on for us. Whether it is scheduling, or patient/client management, Shepherd is a breeze. Finally, the support is OUTSTANDING! They always have an answer and they are truly invested in our success! One more, they update regularly with noteworthy functionality and much of it is driven by client input. Overall score: 15 out of 10!

Cons

You have to pay attention to set up. Shepherd is very robust and you need to "think about" how you want it to operate and function. If you do that, you're in good shape. If you make assumptions during set-up and you don't follow their instructions and advice, you can get yourself into trouble. ASK QUESTIONS and pay attention.

My experience with the staff has been wonderful. They reach out and check in from time to time. If I have any issues, like lab work not linking, they will follow up after the situation has resolved to ensure that everything is still going well. They are very responsive in their chat.

Pros

The software is very user friendly. It took minimal training to get us up and running when we opened last year. I love that they listen to the users and update features based on what the users ask for.

Cons

I don't love that we are not getting charged for text messaging when it was free, but I do understand why.

Unlike many electronic medical record systems, Shepherd is intuitive, easy to learn, and easy to teach.

Pros

Ease of use. Everything you need can be accessed from the patient record. No need to go back and forth from the client interface to the patient. No need to go back and forth from a home page to the client/patient page. As veterinarians, we start and stop with the patient. It is as if it is an old-fashioned paper record, which has everything one needs about the patient, all bound up in one folder. But instead of being a physical record, it is found within an easy-to-navigate electronic medical record system.

Cons

It used to be the reports, however, the available reports have been expanded greatly. Now I have all the reports I need.

Good as stated earlier. Few things can be improved further. Sending medical notes as PDF form is easily retrieval by clients compared to sending the link which does not open sometimes as clients reported to us.

Pros

Overall most of things are good but few items can be improved. Easy navigation, forms are easy to send to clients, workflow is very good

Cons

It will be nice to have a option to collect client signature after entire treatment plan is agreed by the \[sensitive content hidden\] including diagnostics and treatment so the client can takes a full responsibility of entire visit treatment plan and it avoids and dispute with the credit card company as client's signature is present for entire expenses of the treatment plan.

Can write up records much faster than previous PIMS. Great client communication functions. Can tweak many functions to personal preferences.

Cons

The accounting is unnecessarily complex. At nearly 3 months running live, I still have 2 staff members that need help with a basic checkout.

The anesthesia forms do not autosave- this creates an issue if we turn on the auto logout after x minutes. Inventory management can be challenging as lots are allowed to go into the negative when there is another bottle in stock

Overall, I've been very pleased with Shepherd. Like I mentioned before, the biggest thing for us has been increased efficiency.

Pros

Shepherd helps dramatically to increase efficiency in our practice. From scheduling, to prescriptions to chart notes, it makes a big difference.

The only real drawback is being browser based. If something happens on their server, it can cause issues for us.

Very good, easy to use, for appointment, clients. Email and texting work easily and you can customize what is sent. Paylinks also an option to send to clients making that easy as well

Pros

It's one of the most intuitive software platforms I have seen/used. (I've worked relief so tried many). Its very competitively priced for a good product. Customer support has been great as I'm a startup and was entering everything from scratch. Also there is an AI help that is pretty good and available any time.

Cons

Slight learning curve, but that's every platform. Otherwise I haven't had any issues and they have been very helpful.

I LOVED getting set up with Shepherd for my start up vet practice. It's stressful to set up PIMS, but they couldn't have been more helpful! I loved \[sensitive content hidden\], the advisor I was assigned to. She was so helpful. I asked her the same questions probably over and over, but she was so patient.

Hmm, it was all amazing, can't think of one thing I didn't like

awesome, love the program for what we do in urgent care. easy to follow and I could write a SOAP within 5 minutes of using the program. Results sync easily and from a medical standpoint, it is a winner!

Cons

the whiteboard is not helpful but I know they are working on this - they are also working on going from a tab based system to having the SOAP be in a single scrolling list which will be great!!

I have used a handful of different software during my time in the veterinary industry, and Shepherd has by far been the easiest one to learn and adjust to. On top of that, the whole Shepherd team is very helpful and easy to work with, AND easy to get a hold of, which is something I had yet to experience with other software.

Pros

I love how user friendly it is. A lot of things you can figure out yourself just playing around with the software, or they even just naturally flow the way you would expect them to.

Cons

Honestly, my least favorite thing about Shepherd is very petty! That's how thorough and easy to use the software is. I do not like the ID numbers that are populated for patients-I wish they only used numbers and not a combination of numbers and letters.

Very easy on-boarding experience (from scratch for a startup), easy to get help online and from our account manager. Day to day use has been great.

Pros

Shepherd is exceptionally easy to learn and use day to day. We are a new urgent care practice and we love the whiteboard for keeping track of patients, diagnostics and treatments. The record is very easy to read and thorough when sending to rDVMs which is very nice as well. The automated features (tasks like callbacks, forms to send to clients when booking online, discharges, approving estimates and pushing to the treatment and invoice) improves efficiency for the whole team as well as communication with clients.

Cons

There are some things that we can’t change (like the anesthesia monitoring sheet and vaccine certificate) which are not what I want. It would be nice to be able to adjust some of these things.

We transitioned two vet hospitals from paper-light, using Avimark and Impromed. We demo'd half a dozen other software systems before going with Shepherd. We started using Shepherd 1.0, which didn't have all the features, but Shepherd promised they would be coming. Shepherd 2.0 was NOT a disappointment, and they have delivered on all of their promises. The customer service could not be better, and they have never forgotten about us - we feel as valued and as important as day 1. Having been a frustrated Avimark and Impromed user, Shepherd has been nothing short of amazing. Updates are frequent, well-communicated, and makes the Shepherd experience continuously better. Our staff has varying skill levels with technology, but all of them made the transition to Shepherd flawlessly. New staff members jump right into Shepherd's easy, logical, and user-friendly design. Shepherd makes case management super easy and allows us to do what we do best - treating patients.

Pros

Shepherd is so user-friendly. It just makes sense. The customer service is phenomenal. They are quick to respond and uber helpful regardless of who contacts them or what the problem is. I could go on and on, but those are my favorites about the software.

Cons

We would love to see the schedule have automatic or template blocks. Currently, we have to manually enter schedule blocks such as "well visits only" or "same day sick appointments only" for every moment we are open, which is time intensive.

### "All the bells and whistles with none of the headaches"

Exceptional. One of the single best customer support experiences of my life, professional and otherwise.

Pros

The ease of use for the full functionality of this software is incredible. I've used software at so many clinics where the program is so glitchy, and complex, they are only using about 10% of the functions (meaning wasting money on program function they don't use) Shepherd is robust, and so easy to use every component of the program!

Cons

Must have internet connection. No offline mode (mobile practice, and some work does not get saved if the internet connection glitches)

Pros

Very user friendly, navigation through software and patient records is extremely easy Extremely easy to upload lab results, radiographs, images, and other documents to patient record Remote access is available on any computer with internet Drug doses are automatically calulated minimizing error Charges are automatically captured when treatments are entered as completed Estimates are fast and easy to prepare

Cons

Search mechanism is limited to patient and client names, unable to search by breed or diagnosis, etc. at this time Populated Physical Exam is limited to companion mammals and isn't quite 100% applicable to avian and reptile species (or amphibian, fish, invertebrates, etc)
