October 13, 2020 3.0 My experience is good, I always use CAD as a work tool, but today my profession / market requires incorporating the management of new software (BIM). Pros Autocad is an easy-to-use drawing software that has allowed us throughout our profession to give a more rigorous format to the presentation of our projects. However, the appearance of new BIM source software makes users wonder if it is worth continuing to use it, given the versatility of the latter. Cons When you build a volume, in autocad the parts are not assembled, they are independent parts; And when changes are made to the volume, it must be done part by part. I learned much of my cad drawing using AutoCAD Architecture and I was not dissapointed with the vast array of functionality that the software comes with. Pros I have used AutoCAD Architecture for most of my career life, to design architectural drawings and it has not disappointed me. The software has the most functionalities that one would need. Cons The price os the software is one thing that needs to be looked at. For a small firm, it would be difficult to get a licence for this product. The command line interface takes workflow up a notch and allows users to be incredibly efficient if they know what they're doing. Cons It's not BIM. But it never pretended to be BIM. There's a steep learning curve with the sheer volume of tools, but it's not any worse than any other powerful drafting or BIM software. You don't have to use everything or know the command line interface to get started. It helps you be efficient and work in a collaborative environment, but if you can draw simple shapes and know how to delete, you can go pretty far. Review Source PC Peter C. Examples are; copy command that helps prevent re designing of the same work. The ability to generate sections and elevations from 3d model is time saving. Dimensions tools are very easy to use and accurate. AutoCAD has really impacted my architectural design career. Cons The software sometimes crashes and and gets super when dealing with huge estate projects which I believe should be fixed. It's is an excellent tool for 2D design & Layout Coordination. It's a fantastic design, construction & coordination tool Cons I started using Revit instead of AutoCAD, so AutoCAD feels extremely difficult to use by comparison. I don't know most of the commands, and simple tools like dimensions are sometimes hard to find. I used it to design buildings my work would've been much more difficult without the toolsets for architecture. Cons To be able to use the software at high standards I first had to spend a great amount of time studying it. Not something you want to buy just for small jobs or simple designs. But in the case of 3D modelling, I won't recommend this for it is quite hard to understand and eats a lot of space in your RAM. Pros As an architectural designer, using this software makes my job easier and faster with its tools being reminiscent of traditional drafting techniques.
