Pros Wir setzen Ranorex seit einigen Jahren für eine in Java geschriebene Desktop-Anwendung ein und haben überwiegend gute Erfahrungen gemacht. Besonders positiv hervorzuheben ist die Möglichkeit, eigenen User-Code in C# einzubinden. Damit lassen sich praktisch alle Anforderungen umsetzen, was Ranorex extrem vielseitig macht. Auch die Integration mit unserer SQL-Datenbank funktioniert reibungslos. Testdaten können unkompliziert eingebunden und genutzt werden. Die modulare Struktur ermöglicht die Wiederverwendung von Code- und Recording-Modulen, und Testfälle sowie Test-Suiten lassen sich gut aufbauen und durch Datenbindung komfortabel mit den Testdaten aus der Datenbank verknüpfen. We plan to code around Ranorex in the future as the license agreement isn't flexible enough to provide the volume we require for a reasonable price. If you don't intend to run more than 50-100 parallel tests, and you have skilled developers to code the tests, then Ranorex is a fine solution. Pros Ranorex provides a flexible base for any automation effort. The record and play features provide just enough functionality to get a team going; while the code module functionality provides the ability to create efficient and robust automation. Cons In order to execute tests in parallel, we had to develop a VM farm and controller system. There are many solutions in the open ware market to handle this and could be offered as part of the Ranorex system. Pros Control Identification, its super easy, and it has made my job easy. I have self learned this took and got a better job what I was doing earlier, so its super easy to learn if someone really wanted to learn. I would highly recommend this to be used because it superb. Happy to use this tool, we are using this from 4.x and now we are on 6.2 . Cons some IE elements are not identified individually, gives a challenge to re-think on RxPath, which is taken as a learning for us too, and the ranorex forum gives answers for our quarries to support. But licences expensive. Would stick with Selenium if you already have framework in place. Ranorex would be useful if starting from scratch as much faster to build tests than Selenium especially if your web site is built on iframes. Pros Test suites can be put together vey quickly using record feature and organised logically using smart folders. Ranorex Spy very useful for creating paths to elements. Easy to add additional code and Ranorex helpers provided for common procedures. White List feature can be used to only include the required processes which avoids interruptions during playback. Ranorex Agents can be installed in remote machines for parallel running (need runtime licence for each active Agent). New features and improvements being added all the time. I have only used the web testing part so far so cannot comment on mobile or desktop support. Cons Integrates with Selenium but the number of parallel tests is restricted to the number of Ranorex licences you have which excludes one of the main features of Selenium. No graphic representation of modules and workflow as exists in other products e.g. HP UFT. Does crash occasionally.during record sessions apparently due to McAfee. User Guide could have more detail. Unlike Selenium where in from A to Z you need to configure everything starting from Framework till Reporting. But Ranorex is comparatively a user friendly tool if the company/person can afford it. Pros \-The framework is available ,any person not having too much knowledge about Automation can easily get started using the tool. -The tool provides Reporting capability which is the biggest plus as after the tests are performed if we cannot report the results then the tool is of no use. -More over the record and play back facility to a large extent provides support for a person to understand the flow of code. Cons The biggest drawback is that there is very less support available online apart from the Ranorex community. For automating basic things its fine,but when it comes to automating specific controls and applications it gets difficult to get help in automation. The support is excellent and updates are frequent enough, but not obnoxiously often. I strongly recommend it! Pros I like the fact that it offers a very good API, with which one can write his own software to use the Ranorex testing capabilities. The studio itself is very good too, though our needs are not entirely met (internal reasons), which is why the API came in very handy. Cons Sometimes it has troubles with certain browsers and recognizing them, even with the appropriate plugins (firefox), though all problems were solvable in the end. The API documentation is hard to find and could be improved. I'm using Ranorex for Web page ,home applications and mobile application. Once the module are set, any user can build a test like we build a lego project. Pros Really good mapping systems to identity control. Can be use for applications and Web control. Don't need to be a professional programers to use the tools. Software is really easy to use, intuitive UI and you can enhance testing writing C# code modules (similar to programming in VS). Customer Support is really fast. Cons When project is big (when project has a lot of test cases - ca. 500++ test cases), program gets slower while editing. At runtime, it runs at normal speed. It is a good thing then to divide a project. When using special components in C# program (such as DevExpress) then RR has some troubles but usually are solved by the help of support. November 8, 2018 5.0 With my personal experience, Ranorex support team is really great. We were facing issues while automating one of the thin client applications at YRC. We explored lot of software including HP UFT, Smartbear TestComplete, but we were unable to track elements for our application. Ranorex engineers developed a new plugin for us which solved our problem and we completed automating that thin client application. It is really good experience working with Ranorex! Pros Ranorex is easy to use. Not much learning is needed. And it supports desktop, web as well as mobile platforms which is the best thing. So once you buy Ranorex, you are all set for any kind of automation testing for your organization. Cons The one thing they can definitely improve is storing elements repository. Sometimes, while recording/ tracking elements, new elements overrides old ones or attaches to some parent folder which is not appropriate. With the Ranorex Studio and Spy I was able to automate full system tests of the application. Pros You can use C# to script your tests. This way you can make generic methods to be able to test something by using a model of the application. Ranorex is powerful enough to be able to find almost anything on the screen using a mix of the RanoreXPath and finding an image on the screen. Cons In-depth information is hard to find. The forum has a lot of information, but most questions that I have are not answered. Also I needed to figure out a lot of things myself, since the information on the website is just explaining the happy flow about how it should work and finding a small detail that I want to configure is mentioned there somewhere. We need something that could record visually. Pros What I like most about Ranorex was the entry point for me as a beginner. As I had more experienced people join my team, they really took to the advanced functionality. It's a real all-rounder testing suite. Cons I found running it on a VM difficult to setup, but I imagine this is par for the course. It did save us time and found regression issues on multiple occasions without us having to manually test and maybe miss the issues. Cons It is a bit pricey, but because it doesn't require detailed programming skills, necessarily (though you can enhance it with your own code), it is worth it to us. Pros A non-programer can easily convert a recorded step into User Code Method where he/she can use any conditional statement and customize the default result with addittional info.
