Comments: We've been using Xero for about two years now. There have been a few hiccups along the way but for the most part things have been ok. Recently however, we've had a problem with our bank feed uploading into Xero in order to reconcile transactions. We first encountered this issue on 2/10/18. We informed Xero and they said they would look into the issue. A couple of weeks went by without hearing anything about the feed working as it should. We contacted them again and they said they were still working on the issue but that we could manually download the transactions ourselves in the meantime. Today is 4/10/18 (2 months later) and they still have not fixed the issue. We are still having to manually download these transactions ourselves in order to reconcile our bank accounts within the Xero software. I spoke with Xero this morning and they still do not have a timeline for when this will be fixed. They said they use an outside company to perform the importing of bank feeds functions and that they are not responsible for it not working. They said when we signed up for the Xero service we were informed about the possibility of the feed possibly cutting out at some point in the fine print (terms & conditions). They refuse to issue any sort of refund for their monthly service during this time of inconvenience because they say the bank feed import function is a free service offered by a third party. The problem we have is that Xero is marketing this service as part of their overall monthly service package which you assume is really included in your monthly service fee you pay to them. When it doesn't work they take no accountability for it not working. We think it's very deceptive for them to market a service (bank import functionality) to prospective buyers, which you assume is included with your monthly service fee, but then take no responsibility for it not working when things breakdown. We believe they do this to gain a competitive advantage over other companies like Quickbooks. Instead of just charging for the bank import service which would increase their monthly service fee and make them less competitive on a price basis with their competition they artfully setup their service to be able to offer a more competitive price but not assume any of the responsibility when the service doesn't work as expected. The general consumer doesn't think to put this deceptive tactic together when they sign up for the service and Xero assumes once they have you onboard you'll deal with the issue until they can get it fixed because switching accounting software companies at a later date is extremely inconvenient.

Pros: The service accomplishes most of what it was intended to do albiet at a bit of a learning curve for the new user.

Cons: There is no customer service support number to call. Bank feeds do not work properly. IOS app is mising some functionaility

Pros: For bookkeeping, small and medium-sized businesses this software is a dream. It is the most intuitive and easiest to use of all the accounting software that we reviewed. As an accountant, it is easy to fix user errors and mis-postings. There is a proper audit trail and safety checks built in. There are so many time-saving features like find and recode, repeating bills/invoices/journals, bank rules. The move toward AI is exciting too.

Cons: The reports aren't GAP or IAS compliant so it is no good for reporting, final accounts production or tax. To get accountants interested and recommending Xero in the early days, they promised accountants that Final Accounts Production and Corporation Tax software was in their development queue but it never materialised and they burnt a lot of bridges with accountants when they announced that they had dropped FAP plans. This is why Quickbooks are getting such a big foothold and stealing market share from Xero.

The software is expensive for what it is and you can get a lot more and better for your money with FreeAgent and QuickBooks.

The biggest let down for Xero is that there is no telephone support, at all. Not even call back. You have to email and if you are on the opposite side of the world from New Zealand, it can take a full day to get an inital response and if there is any misunderstanding or info required, it can take days to get your problem resolved. This is really useless and a deal breaker for serious businesses.

Another major failing in Xero is the number of times that the Bank Feed just doesn't work. This is outwith Xero's control and so it can often take months to resolve. This is amateur and best and negligent at worst.

Overall: It is so easy to use but support has to come from Accountants who are not customer service or techies and who are not adequately compensated for their efforts. It is enjoyable to use and definitely does the basics very well.

Comments: I have been a Xero certified advisor for 8 years and actually returned the accounting profession because of Xero after deciding to leave because I felt the industry didn't understand delivering value to clients. Xero has been a catalyst for increasing the speed of change in the industry towards a value proposition model. Although like any system success with does come down to using it properly and being prepared to spend the time to understand how it works and to make the most of it, but Xero has been built so intuitively and they have

Pros: Great design, intuitive, great support files and videos, invoicing features are very good, being able to add files to transactions is a big time saver, the fact that it is a full accounting system is great in its price range, although for more complex features you may need an add-on application for example full stock management and stock control.

Cons: The way the contacts database has been developed could be improved to make importing and exporting data easier, that has improved recently with the addition of client codes field. Also greater flexibility of controlling features a user can access would be great.

Recommendations to other buyers: I suggest people check their key operational requirements and compare this with how Xero operates. Often people choose an accounting system first and then look at other applications afterwards which can work well, but I think that you should look at a system for your key operations (sales, crm, stock control, fleet management, etc) and then choose a system that is a best fit for your operational needs and then pick an accounting system that "plays" well with that system. If Xero fits in with that solution you should not be dissapointed. Having used systems from MYOB, Sage, Quickbooks, through to Oracle and SAP, I still love working with Xero everyday.

Pros: What is good about Xero are 1) Real-time bank feeds and bank reconciliation - this is what scared the pants off of Intuit and forced them to develop new functionality. 2) Xero fully embraces and enables third-party developers to provide niche solutions that have rich interaction with Xero. 3) The features keep getting better and better quarter after quarter. 4) Perhaps my relationship as a partner skews this, but I've had nothing but excellent support from Xero. I can call someone if I have to, but I almost always get issues resolved through technical support in a timely fashion.

Some of my favorite add-ons for Xero are GeoOp for field services, Deputy which integrates its scheduling, time and attendance functions with Xero payroll, and Float which projects cashflow. The new reporting and the tags are fantastic.

Cons: There are some features I would like to see "sooner," but they are on the roadmap for "later." People jump on Xero because of the price without having a Xero consultant evaluate their suitability for the application - that can create an expectation gap, and that inevitably leads to an unhappy customer. I just hate it when people let their wallet do their thinking for them and then blame the software because it "doesn't do enough."

The payroll is fine. I spoke to the VP in charge of payroll development and he is all about improving the functionality, so it will continue to improve. What is there now is very well designed to be comprehensive and flexible, but there are situations where a third-party payroll like Gusto will make more sense for your organization. They are the first ones to suggest you look at solutions like Gusto, ADP, Paychex and others that integrate seamlessly with Xero.

It is annoying that the tags are limited to two categories, and this won't be revised until they have their design for job costing completed. No word yet on when that will be.

Overall: Full Disclosure: I am an accountant and I recommend Xero to many of my clients. When the expectations are in alignment with the capabilities of the software, then everyone is happy. People get into trouble with ANY software when they jump in thinking they know what it does and are then disappointed. All accounting and ERP software has limitations and Xero is no exception, but what it does, it does well. It provides payables, receivables, bank reconciliation and general ledger as its core functionality. There is a very capable estimating/quoting/order/ process that ties into AR invoices smoothly. But, the requisition/purchase/inventory side is very, very basic. In fact there are no requisitions and the purchase orders are so limited that I recommend you not use them. The inventory is only what is needed to make the sales side functional. So, if you need strong inventory support, you have to use a third-party add-on designed just for this purpose.

Recommendations to other buyers: Xero is a financial accounting platform designed to provide those core financial services to third-party line-of-business applications. In many situations, especially with micro-businesses, Xero will fill all of your needs; however, you must be aware of when your needs will be constrained by the limitations of the software. If you are looking for advanced financial capabilities like multi-company consolidation and/or inter-company transactions (especially with different functional currencies) then DO NOT look at Xero - you need to be spending a lot more money and you'll be wasting your time until you face up to that. For that, I suggest Sage 300 or Intacct. If you have a real inventory need, like a wholesaler or manufacturer, there are some simply wonderful third-party add-ons. Service companies and field-service companies have a huge selection of very well-designed applications that can improve your operations dramatically for a ridiculously small price. Small businesses can now have capabilities for less than $500 per month that larger companies have to pay well over $80K for. This kind of disruptive technology is allowing small businesses to compete with much larger, well-funded enterprises.

Comments: I stopped the service and they kept all my company information and accounting details for the entire year. They wouldn't let me access them unless I paid. That's right THEY RANSOMED me for my own accounting info. Since it's only a web based program, if you don't want to pay anymore, you don't get to access any of your data. Isn't that fun. Sure you can export and document with everything crammed in there, but you can't use it easily or transfer it seamlessly to quickbooks etc. And the other issues: the interface is lousy. Their transaction recognition is really bad and their rules don't work very well. So if you are like me and have a lot of credit card transactions, good luck, cause you'll be at the screen for hours. I could go on about how it won't recognized the payee from the bank account line because it thinks it's the reference line etc, but you should never have to learn this for yourself. Be warned. The reporting is a joke. An absolute joke. You spend all month or year inputting data and then you want to go pull up some reports to see how everything is... well sorry you can only use their pre-designed reports with little or no customizable function. Want to pull income and expenses for specific categories and accounts... nope sorry, you can do specific accounts or categories or accounts, not both. Infuriating to say the least (this is why I decided to stop using) There is literally no customer service. That means literally. None. You cannot get anyone on chat or phone. The only thing you can do is email and wait. No real-time interaction.

Pros: the colors were nice. It's pretty cheap. The bank accounts seem to refresh 50% of the time. The name is easy to remember

Cons: * online based so they keep you information of you cancel service BEWARE * transaction recognition is terrible - you'll spend hours entering the same transactions * Reports are non-customizable and basically useless * Customer service does not exist. Literally does not exist. No possibility of realtime help under any circumstances.

Pros: Cloud availability, choice between manual or automatic accounting, incredible reports, easy to print, beautiful, fun to use, don't have to be an accountant to use it, fantastic break-down of categories and overhead vs. cost of goods. Shows great percentages - growth overall, percentage of sales per category and percentage of expenses per category - easy to understand the nuts and bolts of your business with Xero and make quick changes to your business model when a problem arises.

Cons: Balance sheet leaves much to be desired - harder to figure out than the rest of the software and difficult to understand in conjunction with the profit and loss. It's not possible to see a comprehensive financial picture - perhaps what makes it so great for non-accountants is its simplicity makes it hard at times to get into the nitty gritty. The billing aspect of Xero is atrocious, just really, really bad. Invoices on "repeat" stay in a strange ticker until you command them to be sent, it creates a lot of problems. Definitely have a separate billing software if you use Xero, especially if your clients are on subscriptions. I wish it integrated better with a growth planning tool - integrates with CRMs fine but doesn't help you look into the next couple of years, or present a future picture to investors.

Overall: Understanding the numbers! I'm finally educated about my own business, which sounds ridiculous, but so many business owners are creative dreamers that never look at the numbers. Even ones that are successful don't look at the numbers because they feel like it's not necessary - and that's the biggest lie in the world. It's so easy to share the reports with people at all levels in the company, and I feel a fantastic sense of control with the numbers because of Xero.

I used Xero for reviewing clients' invoices and checking our collectibles.

Pros: I used to be the marketing and accounts assistant for Expert360, and use Xero together with our accountant based on Pakistan. Xero makes it easy for us to send an invoice to our corporate, medium and small business clients. It allows us to view the overdue invoices, which enables us to follow-up on those payables. We were able to see the money that we had collected and the money that still needs to be collected. It also allowed us to track the payables to our consultants. Over all, Xero is an easy-to-use accounting software. It's user-friendly functions and features allows you to instantly view the cash flow of your business.

Cons: One thing that I noticed on the platform is it doesn't allow to create multiple entries from one company. Like we have client A and they have lots of projects with us. We wanted to create like client A1, A2, A3 in the contacts info so that we know who's the one in-charge for each project. But our accountant told us that it would appear in the invoice as client A1, A2, and A3 in the invoice instead of just client A only. He said it would create confusion on the person in-charge for the payments since it's not their usual company name. We contacted Xero about that and they said they will work on the feature and hopefully it will be added in the future. Where you can entire Client A with someone as the contact person and Client A with someone as the contact person. The last time I know you can really just create one contact entry for each client.

Overall great. Recently, shocking!

Pros: Overall, it's a good product. Easy to use. Simple UI though quite dated. It does everything we need it to plus more.

Cons: Until recently, there wasn't much I didn't like. I probably couldn't name anything, apart from the somewhat dated UI - but that's a stretch.

Recently however, Xero have taken a core feature (Expenses) and starting selling it as an add-on, on top of the monthly subscription fee.

Expenses as you may know, and would expect, is 'included' in the monthly subscription and formed part of the core software. There was no additional charge. They've recently updated the Expenses feature (which they should be doing anyway) and now believe that because they've updated it, that warrants it being pulled from core and sold separately as an add-on.

As a current subscriber, I signed up for the all inclusive package. Having features ripped from the core package and charged for in addtion to the monthly subscription is not on. Especially when no discount or reduction of the monthly subscription cost was offered.

As a SaaS provider, any and all future updates, regardless of how big or small they are, should form part of the monthly subscription.

Choosing an accounting package is a big decision and once you're committed, it's difficult and often costly to change. With Xero now employing this kind of model, I'd caution anyone considering Xero to think again, think hard.

Today it's Expenses, tomorrow it could be something else.

These disgusting tactics employed by Xero are unacceptable.

Comments: I have been using Xero for a couple of years now and am very happy with it. I was with MYOB but had a bad experience when they upgraded their systems to include cloud computing. I have had a look at their new systems, and while they are much improved and worth exploring for someone starting from scratch, I will still stick with Xero.

Pros: My accountants use it extensively so it makes my work and their work integrate so easily which ultimately saves money. Reconciliation is a very labour intensive exercise and Xero cuts a huge amount of time out of this process. On its own it is quite cheap too. I have an expensive plugin (Tradegecko), but the functionality of that pays for itself. Xero creates the framework of my entire business system.

Cons: If you have a business where you have a large number of transactions coming in for the same value, e.g. if you have magazine subscriptions all for $5 a month each then Xero is not a good option, at all. I did have this problem and it was a total pain. I have corresponded extensively with Xero on this issue and they do not see it as a priority and have said directly that they have no intentions on making improvements. This surprises me as their customer service is generally quite good. There is quite a large thread on the support forums on this topic. If this is a potential issue for you then here is my advice. Set up a trial account with Xero and MYOB and test both for this important reconciliation feature. If you know what you are doing it shouldn't take too long (or ask someone who knows what they are doing). These systems change and evolve so quickly that by the time you read this review one of them might have improved their system. MYOB has been beaten badly by Xero in the past few years but from what I have seen (I recently exhibited next to them at a show) they have come a long way since I stopped using their system.

Comments: Xero is very basic as an accounting program. The market to which it markets it has no understanding of, is, therefore, unable to address any questions or requests coming from businesses in these markets. Customer Service is appalling. Many requests that are essential to business have been open in some cases more than 5 years and they seem to only reply to requests posted online once a year. If you looking to do partial invoices for one quote you have sent you are unable to. keep a separate spreadsheet for every job you quoted the partial invoices you sent, to ensure that when you need to reconcile you are able to keep track. There seems to be an add-on for every possible shortcoming of the program and be prepared to budget a lot for these add-ons. When you do quotes it does not keep track of revisions and does not carry over the titles and basic information to invoices. If you are doing multiple quotes and invoices for on client keep a separate spreadsheet to make sure you know what you changed in what revision should the client want to revert back to an older revision. Have the spreadsheet keep track of the headings so that you are able to know and give quick feedback as to which invoice was for which project allocated to which department.

Pros: Relatively good online/mobile app.

Cons: Takes forever to respond to customer requests. Have very generic type responses when they eventually respond which could be a year later. Has features that are meant to implement open for more than 5 years. Not made for small business that deals with small to large enterprises. No Partial invoicing. Can't deal with different departments having different functions ie quotes to buying department, invoices to the financial department. There is no way to allocate contacts to these functions you need to a separate spreadsheet. No track record between quote and invoices, you have to open invoice and quote to know exactly which job belongs to which quote and invoice.

Recommendations to other buyers: Do not take it up.

This has revolutionized our bookkeeping and reduced our accounting fees.

Pros: I have no bookkeeping background and was able to easily learn how to use Xero. My business partner and I can login from anywhere in the world and get an up to date picture of our finances, pay invoices, review reports, check profitability and more. Our year end process is much faster and streamlined and we feel like we have much more control over our business. We have integrated data from our POS system (Touch Bistro) using the Shogo Integration tool and allows us to track sales by category alongside costs. We have also integrated Payment Evolution with Xero so we can run payroll and make EFT payments to suppliers directly. Invoices are closed out automatically and remittance notices provided saving time, money and keeping our suppliers happy.

Cons: Some of the reporting features don't show the information that I need - for example the sales tax report. I also find it frustrating that I can't integrate my online banking with Xero - we use a credit union so this might be the bank's issue. Some of the navigation is not great. For example the search feature can be a little fussy and when you complete an action you don't get returned to the page you left.

Overall: Save time, greater control over my business, fewer errors, save money, more visibility of overall financial health of business. Allows me to work remotely.

Overall: We've moved from another software 4 years ago and have not looked back. Bank feed setup is easy, recon is a
breeze. There are lots of add-ons which can assist with specific needs and there are tons of integrations with sales force and other big guns.
The only issues I see is pricing. If you run multiple entities (i.e. for service companies or trusts) the subscription cost adds up quickly. This is because the most basic plan is essentially useless (5 bank transactions a month... if that's all you need, you don't run a business). Compared to emerging competitors pricing is very high.
Another issue, if you rely on it, is email support only. While responses come back within 1 to 3 days, players like Intuit have live chat support, which is amazing at their price point.
All in all, Xero is a solid solution for us though and while we've moved some (nonpayroll) entities off it and onto QuickBooks, it remains our accounting mainstay for the core operations entity. Hope this helps.

Recommendations to other buyers: use it for entities you need the full feature set for. Albeit awesome, it's too expensive to run a single investment property through it, or a holding company. Subscription cost will be prohibitive.

Pros: I've used Intuit Quickbooks since 1995. I used to upgrade it about every 10 years, and eventually went with a monthly subscription to take advantage of upgraded features, notably auto-connecting with my online bank accounts. Unfortunately, QB would not connect with Paypal so I decided to abandon it. I searched for a replacement, checked out FreshBooks (which really isn't an accounting program, it's just an invoicing program -- sort of useless) and came upon Xero. I signed up for a free demo account and really liked it particularly because it connects to my bank and Paypal seamlessly. I like it for its reporting, and easy to get at everything that I need. I run a marketing agency and it's just about a perfect fit. Easy email-invoicing, with easy connections to online payments through Paypal (Quickbooks tries to force you to use their merchant account). I set up my clients one at a time as I invoice them each month, email the invoice (with a PDF attachment) with a link to pay with a card, and the software tracks the payment and credits the client's account immediately.

Cons: One of the downsides of using XERO vs Quickbooks is that finding accountants that can handle the files is relatively rare. And I'm wondering if it will connect with tax prep software with no problems. (That was ONE saving grace of Quickbooks is that it would import your financials into their tax prep program).

Pros: Xero has an interface that's easy to read and to navigate. The setup process is well presented and the support is good in response to tickets and also in their excellent training programs. Once you¿ve understood how the flow of importing transactions and bank feeds, reconciling and generating reports is presented, you can keep your bookkeeping well ahead of any competitor¿s product.

Cons: Any bookkeeping software requires some knowledge, training and experience in the theory and process of accounting. Xero is no exception, despite what may be claimed. Having said that, Xero is the least difficult to comprehend of the better softwares available.

Pros: Easy to create invoices, match transactions between Xero and your bank, and simple to view your daily balance. Invoices look professional with logo and custom business information, and you can email invoices to clients directly from Xero. You can also use their payroll portal, but we don't use that particular feature. Xero also connects with Stripe, our credit card processing company, and automatically handles the processing fees. We appreciated how easily it integrated with Stripe.

Cons: It's very easy to duplicate transactions, or to create invoices and bills within the wrong month. After doing so it's difficult to find the transactions and to delete them. I'm very savvy with software and spreadsheets and it definitely surprises me when my accountant contacts me to ask me about a transaction that appears to be a duplicate.

Overall: Great overall financial management for our small business. Easy to approve and share transactions, and to see a road map for our financial future before our accountant gives us monthly reports.

Pros: Xero is very intuitive and easy to use. As an owner of an accounting company focusing on bookkeeping, I use Xero exclusively. The other competitor in this arena is QBO. While their functionality and integrations are similar, Xero excels with amazing customer service, a more solid platform (they have been in the web-based game longer) and ease of use. All of my clients that have used both prefer Xero as well. Intuit is too large a company and you get thrown around when you have questions. Xero customer services is friendly and quick. They are honestly a pleasure to work with.

Cons: The major drawback to Xero is their reporting. QB has better reports for various needs, as an accountant. Xero is slowly improving but it has been a very, very slow process. Sometimes this can be infuriating. Their free internal payroll platform is lacking a bit as well but I haven't compared it to QBO. It works but I prefer to use Gusto with the automatic sync for my clients.

Pros: Robust accounting software which has been customised to individual country accounting systems, which is a bonus because many are specific to one location.

My accountant is happy working with Xero and so that makes our working relationship easier, especially being able to do remote check ups and ledger corrections.

Automatic bank feeds are well implemented.

Cons: User interface is slow to get around, could do with being a modern single page app really.

No native versions for desktop, even though it is the sort of application you need to move around fast and enter a lot of data into.

Mobile apps are clunky and not very task driven. Data entry could be smoother.

Receipt functionality is half baked. Why can't it trim and optimise receipt images like popular scanning apps do? The file upload area is hugely annoying to use, needing a tedious preview process to see what the receipt is but not allowing data entry at the same time. This effectively means you have to have a look and remember what is on your receipt.

Servers feel slow, not helped by old multipage form style design of website. Needs to be a progressive single page web app badly.

Overall: Cloud accounting that my accountant enjoys more than I do!

On the plus side, my team can enter expenses on the move, albeit in a clunky way.

Reconciliation and bank feeds are well implemented.

Cons: Has had some downtime recently. They're good about notifying about upcoming maintenance intervals, but there have been a couple of incidences of downtime that have affected my work. They fixed it quickly, which is really all you can ask. Stuff happens in the technical realm.

Overall: I've started doing some bookkeeping, and I've immediately gravitated toward Xero because of it's ease of use and outstanding customer & partner support.

The company that dominates this market has (in my experience) horrendous customer support. That's where Xero really stands out as a strong competitor. I find their functionality to be much better than the current market leader AND I can easily get help if I need it.

Where Xero shines is in making reconciliation easy. It learns as you go and makes intelligent suggestions that make future reconciliations faster. The cash coding feature is also a real time-saver as it allows me to reconcile larger numbers of transactions that will all be coded to the same account.

Xero also offers direct download from a large number of financial institutions. Even being in Arkansas, I've been able to download statements directly from all the banks I've needed.

Xero has a huge marketplace of add-ons to assist with things like Point of Sale, Inventory Management, Sales Tax filing and much more. It's safe to say any small business should be able to get all of their accounting and bookkeeping needs met within the Xero ecosystem, and they'll get much better customer support there than with other products.

Recommendations to other buyers: Definitely get certified and use the practice company to familiarize yourself with Xero. It's like driving cars by different manufacturers - the functions are the same, but the buttons and knobs are in different places. If you're coming from another platform, just put in the time to get familiar with it.

Pros: As a user of Vend POS we are able to integrate using an extension with Xero, which simplifies our stock control and invoice payment and reconciliation workflow tremendously. The Xero suite has been a simple experience and we have been using it for Payroll for a year as well. Our CPAs are able to access and use the data to work on our tax returns as well.

Cons: There are more commonly used web-based bookkeeping and accounting suites that may be more suitable for more complex businesses such as Quicken where the adoption and recognition of terms, reports, workflows is already there. More CPA and employees will be familiar with them off the bat. Xero is a bit unique in that it was built from the ground up more recently as a simple alternative to these large corporate accounting suites and technologies.

Overall: As a new business owner with no prior accounting experience or education, Xero has been an excellent way to keep our business running smoothly.

Comments: As a small business owner and accountant, I have tried many accounting softwares. I was a Quickbooks Pro Advisor for five years and relied heavily on an expensive and inconsistent server to share data with clients. A forward thinking, tech savvy client mentioned Xero to me a few years ago and I blew him off. I have seen accounting software try to compete with Quickbooks and many have failed. I was afraid of ditching the my current method of working with my clients, because I didn't want to have to deal with the struggle of switching software, only to have to do it again after the business tanks or bugs in the code would cause me to become far too frustrated. After several more clients mentioned Xero, I thought I would give it a shot. I tested the software out, totally putting it through the ringer. I used a client as a beta tester and asked for feedback on it. We worked on the file together and tried our best to break the program. After a month of working on Xero, I was hooked! I took all of my clients off of the server and Quickbooks and moved them to Xero and I am so glad that I did. Highlights of Xero (from prospective of an accountant) - I can work with my clients in real time: Clients can leave us notes, can see what we are seeing, and can use Xero on smartphones and laptops- you aren't tied to an operating system - I don't have to waste time on data entry: Bank feeds are magical - I am able to achieve great results at a fraction of the cost: no software upgrades to pay for, no server costs - CPAs still get all of the data they need via Xero reports - Xero customer service is tops- Have an issue? They handle the issue quickly - Xero add ons are amazing and you accounting system can be tied with an SaaS application quickly and easily.

Pros: - Ease of use: Understandable menus- navigation is a cinch - Cost: a fraction of the cost of Quickbooks Desktop + a server and on par with Quickbooks Online - SaaS integration- Have a software you need connected? There is likely an API for it

Cons: - The restricted access is not able to be customized enough. If I wanted a user to have access to certain areas, they had to gain access to multiple areas outside their scope. The audit feature was a great tool for teaching and seeing where I needed to train employees if they made errors

Pros: Over the last 5 years I have found Xero to be so much easier to use that what I used before (Quickbooks). It is also a great value, since it includes accounting, payroll processing, payroll tax filing and payment, and just about everything else I need to run the finances of my business. The tight integration with Paypal to receive payment on invoices is especially nice.

Cons: Over the past few years Xero has a addressed some of the less convenient aspects of the platform. The only thing that is still annoying is that there is no automatic feed for my bank. Only 4 U.S. banks (plus Paypal) have direct feeds. Users who bank with other institutions, have to go through a cumbersome process with Yodlee to update their feeds. That means entering the username for your bank and a confirmation code sent via email every time you want to update the transactions.

Overall: Easy to use, lots of value for the money.

Pros: Generally, it has been an easy accounting software to set up albiet with some frustrations. I have never set up any of their competitors software so it may be normal. It seems affordable.

Cons: In business, time is money. Multiple times i have been working with xero only to have my work disappear with no way to recover it. I have to start all over. I have found no customer service unless you want to wait for someone to reply to your email. It seems like Xero values their own time but not their customers time. When you are frustrated and need help with the software, it would be great to be able to call someone. There are lots of videos that answer questions about Xero, but not necessarily the questions i have.

Comments: Xero has really helped our business and it is great to use. The support team are very quick to respond to any issues, and there is hardly ever an issue with the software, it is very reliable.

Pros: It is simple enough for non-bookkeepers to use and get great information, and it has the ability to produce all of ATO reporting needs, making GST and Tax returns really easy to complete. The sales and payments also integrate without purchasing software allowing us to complete accurate job costing without a lot of effort. We know when we are making money and when we are losing money on jobs.

Cons: Entering time sheets manually every week, because it doesn't link to our timesheet software, but this will change in the next year hopefully. Sometimes there are delays on bank feeds and we have to check the bank account instead of using xero.

Comments: Xero makes accounting fun rather than a chore, the system learns as you use it and automatically completes reconciliations. The phone app loads fast and is easy to navigate.

Pros: This software is the real deal that has whole package. Truely feel in control of your business with easy to use features from invoicing, reconciling, payroll, leave management, time sheets etc. I love the edition and enabling of third party software. I personally coupled Xero with a specialized job & inventory management system. However Xero does that too, and in a more than capable fasion for most business'. Together with Xero, it really is, Beautiful Business.

Cons: The only negative i had with the system was when coupled with the specific third party software that i had intergrated with Xero, it would double up on client invoices and created a little extra work. I did later findout from the Xero support centre that this was an issue i could resolve in features of Xero

Overall: A complete look at my business from objective point of view. It was excellent for looking at cash flow and seeing where your money comes from and what it goes on. This, on top of all the other features generally used.

Pros: It is an in expensive product, which is great for small businesses. For a a small company that works in multiple currencies it is a plus over QBO which doesn't support multiple currencies. The basic reports are pretty easy to run and understand.

Cons: As your company grows you can out grow the product quickly. My biggest issue though is the lack of customer support being able to do anything to help with situations. We have two subsidiaries that were being managed by our former South Africa team (who are longer with the company). The former South Africa team gave the subscription role to the external tax accountant there. Unfortunately, now this tax account is refusing to relinquish the subscriber role back to the company unless we pay him. We explained the situation to Xero and that we can prove ownership of the company and they did nothing to help us other than reach out to the tax accountant who has not responded to inquiries in the past. Our only option is legal action, which is very expensive and we don't have a physical presence in South Africa any more.

Pros: This software as a service has everything a business might need including full employee PAYE, expenses and purchase order integrations.

As a small business owner its very easy to align your bank and client accounts with xero. The functionality from just the mobile app is tremendous, let alone the full Web app experience.

Roles are important in xero, from employee expenses to external accountancy and consultancies, you can give everyone a suitable level of access.

Cons: There are a few issues around invoicing that you aren't able to control. For instance, if you have a bad paying client and need to automate incurred interest you'll need an add-on's service and these can add a great expense to the smaller business.

Comments: Although Xero is not a perfect product - I have setup over 300 clients on Xero and that either as a stand alone or with one or more Add-ons - Xero is a great option for businesses to start at a base level and scale up. The next option would be a medium business option that works to the same standard without the huge capital investment of an ERP system.

Pros: The main thing I love about Xero is it looks after the accounting very well. With its Open API you can integrate over 500 add-ons to automate and systemise your whole process. In days gone by only the big guys could afford this sort of powerful integrated system, but today Xero gives you the option to integrate the systems you find work for your business. Over the 5 years, I have been using Xero I can count on one hand the times that the system has actually gone offline. They have a great Assurance Dashboard to keep an eye on who is using the system. You can actually see all of the deleted and edited transactions as well as those that are void.

Cons: Although Xero isn't the cheapest in the market, it is backed up by customer service and by its Partners. In the US, they are still to roll out payroll for all the States.

Pros: Simple to use, focusses on the financial management of your bank accounts first. We coined the term; Upside Down Accounting. And it really is. When you think of the way that the bank feeds link to transactions; its no different to a game of snap 'OK'

Cons: I think that it it's too cheap (yeah, that's a double negative). We've found that the product is priced perfectly for us as the consumer. But commercially as a SaaS provider ourselves, I think that it is too cheap for what it does. But then there are 11m small businesses in the US, so get a slice of that and BOOM. We use it every day in our business and it does exactly what we need. As a business with offices in AU / US and customers round the globe, Xero provides a capability that we'd be spending 10s of thousands per year with other platforms that deliver half the value (and add more staff to manage and administer).

Recommendations to other buyers: Look past the price, and think about the efficiencies that you can gain in your business. We were able to double in size through acquisition and halve the admin staff costs (head count) by implementing xero in our business. You may need to consider whether xero by itself will deliver the whole solution. We use ConnectWise as our ERP, and connected to Xero it is amazing.

Overall: I'll admit, Xero requires a bit of a learning curve for those who regularly use alternate software suites for accounting (whether cloud or desktop). However, once you are familiar with the interface and navigation, Xero provides some great features.

Xero's pricing is great for companies who plan to use Xero's payroll (which is included with the most popular package). It certainly beats the cost of competing software.

One of the stand-out features of Xero is the elimination of sub-accounts on the general ledger. Instead, all accounts are at the same level, and you can create custom layouts for your P&L and Balance Sheet to view information in whatever groups are convenient for you (and it can be changed). This makes tracking income from various sources and paying sales tax simpler!

The one major hang-up I have with Xero is that journal entries cannot affect bank accounts. That means extra steps are required when your JE needs to affect the bank accounts. The only hang-up I have (which is also not a deal breaker) is that if you record a payment to the wrong bank account and need to change it, you have to delete the whole thing and re-enter it as a "spend money" transaction on the correct account. This can make for time-consuming clean-up since you cannot even fix those errors with a Journal Entry.

Still, Xero is a great fit for many industries and is innovative and creative in solving accounting problems.

Pros: I like the way xero integrates with lots of other programs, so you can easily connect your bank account, sales channels, inventory management and alaylitcs software. With all these integrates the work load is reduced considerably, making it feasible to do day to day book keeping as you go without hiring a specialist.
The product is constantly growing with new integrations and reports added, you can also directly post VAT returns and other official filling to HMRC from inside the app.

Cons: I would like to see a full function smartphone app and native desktop app. At the moment the iPhone app allows limited functions but you have to go to the web app to get all the real functionality.

Pros: Matching recipt transactions to Bank Accounts is so easy and simple, and the reason I moved away from another (albeit free) solution.

The basic chart of accounts is a good starting point for a non-accountant like me, plus I like the ability to add custom tracking options (although there is room for improvement!)

Managing expenses is simple.

The limited customer service interaction I've had to date has been average, although still waiting for a resolution.

Cons: You can't invoice different people at the same company using the Xero address book; there are a myriad of various work around a but no simple and obvious solution. When I researched this on the community forums I saw it is a long standing and high demand customer request which to date hasn't been addressed or satisfactorily acknowledged by Xero.

Further, in this research I noticed that they seem to struggle to effectively communicate with customers via the support forum and are lacklustre in acknowledging when something is wrong. Growing pains of a booming SaaS business? Possibly, but it doesn't take much to get this right and they don't seem to.

Overall: Huge time saving an visibility into my accounts. Plus I use it across a few businesses which helps.

Pros: It's great for small business with nothing complex to do. For anything else, it's really not all that.

Cons: It lacks basic functionality like a proper trial balance. It also heavily overstates the functionality in multiple areas, such as multicurrency; not so useful if you can't even post a journal in anything other than your home currency. They like to pretend that they will take feedback on board, but in actual fact they just direct you to forums then ignore you... they've recently removed the dates from the forums so that you can't see how long the angry users have been waiting for basic feature requests. I'd avoid, especially if you are a start-up, as (hopefully) you'll soon outgrow it.

Pros: Very simple UI. it's intuitive to use and it didn't take us long to understand everything the platform offers.

Cons: The platform is simple... yet it 'used to' work perfectly. The problem is that everything wasn't as dynamic or powerful as others platforms so Xero started to overhaul some features to make them better. The result? everything is now a new module that costs $$$/month/user. So what started as the 'best bang for your buck' is now as expensive as others. And after so many years probably there are more/better alternatives. Sort reviews by date because I used to consider xero a 5star platform but not anymore.

Overall: IT was a the best bang for your buck 3-5 years ago. It's time to move on to something better.

Pros: Its easy to use and navigate around with. Im not a trained accountant or book-keeper but with some practice have become very proficient in using it. The ability to interrogate whats happened and correct mistakes is very good.

Cons: The API seems to have severe limitations. Why it is in 2018 that we need third party software to identify whats happening with our credit card merchant payments? Stripe and Xero are 2 of the biggest and supposedly cutting edge softwares out there and yet can't seem to find a way to talk to one another in a way that allows proper reconciliation. Between my book-keeper and 2 lots of software I probably spend x3 what the Xero subscription costs, just keeping on top of this very basic tedious task of reconciling stripe transactions. Totally ridiculous and enough to make me actively seek alternatives.

Comments: For small businesses who have basic needs, Xero is great. Easy setup and has does most of the things you need.

Pros: Xero is easy to use - even employees can use it to load sales invoices and employee expenses. It is great that they have an IOS and Android App, allowing you access on the go. Tracking and reporting on invoices is easy and with integrations with 3rd party services you can easily receive and send information.

Cons: It does not update directly from our banking platform - to let us know an invoice is paid. Also if someone requests finance to approve an invoice, finance does not get an notification. You have to let finance know and they have to go and find the invoice and approve.

Pros: Simple update of data, excellent report system. Help is 5 stars. As mentioned above, I had a bit of friction in transition to this system, and the help i received was quick and thorough. They made the transition much easier in this way. Greatly appreciated!

Cons: Not sure I have any. One bank update seems to lag a few days, but i that is the Bank, not Xero. My other accounts update quickly and on a daily basis.

Overall: At first I found this approach confusing as I was so used to quicken. With assistance from tech support, I was up and running very quickly! Now keeping my business books up to date is really simple and takes very little time. I pretty much update every day or so and it only takes a minute or two. The reporting features are excellent. So far, I am probably only scratching the surface of the report features, but that is all I need!

Recommendations to other buyers: If you have a hard time at first, get help from the help system. Email them! They are awesome and will work with you to get you on your way. Once you get over that hump it is smooth sailing. They will also set a time to screen share and walk you through your set up issues. Extremely great support!!

Comments: Xero helps all of my clients better understand their money and therefore better their business! It's also much quicker to work in than other accounting software. It's easy to add users giving CPAs access to books and the 1099 report is flawless. Xero helps by making daily, monthly, quarterly, and end of year bookkeeping quick and painless! Everyone we have moved over from QB has loved the switch.

Cons: Slight transition in training moving out of QB but you will love it!

Comments: I have found this to be a frustrating system, I am accustomed to MYOB support, when I need to learn something new, the email approach of responding in 24hours makes it really impossible to gain any relationship. When I complained, Xero response was "Sorry you want to leave us - heres how to change"!

Pros: Xero is from New Zealand & has expanded extremely well via a strong programme of marketing to accountants. As a SME not much to like!

Cons: Lack of customer support - Xero doesn't consider me a customer only my accountant. Ive paid in full, & my account was cancelled with no notice, my wages were late. All this because Xero shut me down on Friday night - the message read "Your account has been suspended - contact BDO"

Pros: Bank feeds make it easy to reconcile bank statements.
Cloud based so I can work anywhere, and my accountant can log in and do what they need to do.

Cons: Some of the user interface is garbage. I heard it has been designed by accountants. They should have enlisted some small business users to give feedback on how a small business would use it. I give feedback, but nothing changes...

Can be frustrating to encounter the same difficulties, report them to support to get them fixed and then encounter the same problem 12 months on...

There is a mobile app, but I find it next to useless.

Overall: Cloud based, so I can work on my accounts where ever I am.

Pros: This accounting software is very easy to use, everything that you need click or to do have a reminder or noted to lessen the mistake if the user is not an account. The best of it they lock the old chart of account so the past entry would not change.

Cons: Since not everything were perfect this accounting software needs improvement such the management report since for the template is not good at all and when it comes to Manual Journal I keep on wondering why there is a lot of reversal. Anyways this software is not recommended for manufacturing.

Pros: The fact that it is truly cloud based, it's look and feel, embedding evidence right in the transaction are all brilliant features.

Cons: Xero cannot except partial GST invoices without a time consuming and error prone work around. We spend around $5000 per month on food at an average of $50 per supermarket docket. GST On these dockets varies between zero and the full 10%, but averages out at 1.7%.. We are a charity, so I can't simply account for them on as GST free purchases. Our donors would be furious. So we have to either account for all these dockets on 2 line basis ( GST Free and GST Incl) or I have to review every transaction, find the GST amount and the total and then pas a journal entry correcting the GST. I do the latter. Without this problem I would have scored Xero 5 stars on every count. Frankly it is astonishing that a mainstream SME accounting product cannot correctly account for GST.

Comments: I am a Xero Certified Advisor, and Xero is the main software that I use for my clients and support! I started using Xero when I started my business E-Accountant in 2010 and stumbled upon it by chance and it was the best thing that ever happened to me! I find it very easy to maintain my clients accounts with, and I also train small business owners/staff on how to use Xero in the most effective way for their business needs. I find that everyone that uses or that i have trained how to use Xero is able to pick it up very easily and quickly. The other thing that I love is the fact that there is continually improvements and upgrades to the app without having to do anything yourself. They also listen to what the users of Xero want in the Xero and will try to implement. No business can operate without a good accounting software.

Pros: Bank Feeds - makes the bank reconciliation easy & quick Integration with 3rd party apps Access from anywhere anytime Access the same file as clients Easy to use Constantly upgrading with automatic updates In built payroll Automatic superannuation payments

Pros: I like Xero for its simplicity that I can teach any person without accounting background to maintain the book.

Cons: I don't like the fact that we are limited to 100 names in tracking. We are always in pursuit of new projects and therefore to keep track of project expenses is very important. Due to the limitation of # of names in Tracking, I am afraid we will have to switch to Quickbooks if and when we reach over 100 names in tracking. Customer Support is not in existence if you want to talk to a live person.

Overall: I am able to maintain simple accounting on a simple software.

Pros: The user experience in Xero is unlike any other cloud accounting software I've tried, the keep it simple and allow you to customize your home screen to see what elements of your books are most important. Their syncing with banks/credit cards making daily bookkeeping quick and easy.

Cons: The few times I've needed to get support for an issue that I've come across or question that I cannot figure out it has been a tremendous challenge. Waiting days at a time to receive an email response, and not having any phone support to contact.

Pros: Xero's automatic bank feeds and reconciliation are just excellent. A huge time saver. Being able to reconcile invoices against payment amounts in is a big win on the sales side. The payroll function is pretty easy to setup and use. Good value for money (despite the con below about multiple jurisdictions). Very easy to invoice, setup templates and create other cards. Plays very nicely to link to our accountant - super easy at tax time.

Cons: Having international books across multiple companies is officially a nightmare. Not being able to link these different sets of books properly and having to pay for multiple instances of Xero is a bit rich. Not being able to have even a little bit of CRM with leads etc. and cost accounting against leads is irritating. I suppose you can use the Xero store to integrate something else like Salesforce if you want. This could be improved. Also the customer support is woeful, I resort to Googling. BUT, these Cons DO NOT outweight the pros. Still wouldn't use anything else.

This has made our life simpler and the accountant likes the outcome

Comments: I like the product and feel justified in recommending it

Pros: Ease of use along with multi platform support we use Mac iOS and Windows so it's important that we get the same feel across all . Xero has a very easy to use app but most of the time we use the browser version. Online invoicing while not an exclusive Xero feature is a real cost saver.

Cons: I had some experience with MYOB and Quick books and this was quite a leap as the feel and tech is quite different. The ability to connect o other products is not great if you go outside the already integrated packages (which we did) At the moment we still do not have an integration point between the LOB software and Xero and still have to double entry.

Pros: Before we moved onto Xero we were using MYOB - not their online product - and shifting to Xero has made bookeeping so much easier. We can reconcile our accounts daily, our accountant has access to it if we have any questions or problems and it's pretty intuitive to use. Invoicing is easy and it sends out reminders for unpaid invoices automatically. It took a little time to learn it and when we came across a difficulty a couple of times we did get good support from Xero to work it out.

Cons: Setting up wages was not easy especially if there aren't regular wages being paid each month and we had to get help from our accountant and Xero to negotiate this.

Pros: The Dashboard feature shows all the relevant information you need in one easy to find spot. I don't have to look in 5 different places for one information. It also send out automatic reminders on overdue invoices, which takes a lot of the work off of my plate. Entering and paying invoices is also very easy and straight forward.

Cons: Setting up the banking details for payruns wasn't very intuitive. There were several hurdles that you have to go through, and it can be difficult if you don't know exactly what xero is asking for. Reconciling the bank is also a bit confusing, but only at first. Once you learn how to split payments it become a lot easier

Overall: A very simple and easy to use software that allows me to track all of my financial information. I also like the fact that I'm able to upload a copy of the invoice to xero so I don't have to go fishing around for the paper copy

This makes accounts so much easier. Gives you great information on all things money!

Comments: I would most definitely recommend Xero and do in general to everyone that asks what software we use.

Pros: Easy to use once you get the hang of it. I can use it anywhere, on my phone, tablet and computer. Integrates with our till software, giving real time information. Taking a photo/scanning an invoice to attach to the payment. Payroll is easy to use and keep updated.

Cons: Took me a few lessons to learn how to use it. I have no other negatives about Xero, our accountants recommended it to us and ey never fail to help if I get stuck.

Pros: Xero provides a simple and quick setup. We we're coming from Quick books Online and had to convert some older bank statements to import into Xero. The entire process took around 2 weeks to migrate the data.

Cons: Xero has it's limits, as with any program. I wish the pricing was a little friendlier but you know... also, we use their API to automatically push data into the program creating estimates and invoices. Sometimes adding discounts creates discrepancies. Lastly, you can provide clients the ability to pay online by means of Stripe or PayPal but they only have the option to pay in full -it is not possible to receive a deposit without creating multiple invoices.

Pros: Quick and easy to setup and migrate existing accounting system to. Simple integration of third party payment processors so that payments can be made directly from emailed invoice. Nice set of customizable reports. Quickly create repeatable invoices and send payment reminders. Integrate bank feeds directly from most banks to speed up bank reconciliation. Well supported product.

Cons: Sometimes bank feeds are problematic but this is mainly due to the bank. Not too much to complain about.

Comments: It would be useful if salary and job history was displayed against each user - as it is you can only see their current role and salary, so it is really difficult to track individual/group progression for reward and benefit purposes.

Pros: It's cloud based, and easy to edit pay runs, and the reports are simple to run. The number of hours for holidays can be edited for half days etc.

Cons: The online help forum is difficult to navigate and doesn't usually answer my questions. There is no explanation/error report when something goes wrong - e.g. if a pension filing doesn't go through, Xero will notify you that it has failed but gives no indication as to why. There is very limited functionality for recording people data.

Pros: Frist, the integration with my inventory system (Dear Inventory) is pitch perfect. The automation of the book keeping is a life saver. We have expanded its base functionality with its API (We have shipping software that we auto send the invoices to Xero from).

Cons: The system doesn't remember your last selected dates on the reports. Doing year end, if I select Jan to Dec, and leave the report and come back, it should remember it. People tend to do the same dates in the same session.

Pros: My accountant finds it easy to use. He likes the interface. I like the ease of producing VAT returns.

Cons: It is not a suitable product for any company providing physical goods rather then services as it cannot generate delivery notes/packing slips. It requires a work around to come up with something like one but there are no fields for purchase order numbers and every time you change the delivery address for a customer and then look at previous invoices it changes the delivery address for all invoices for that customer. I got this package because my accountant asked me to and I would not have agreed if I had known that it had no delivery note option.

Comments: Really good bit of software for the small businesses being run internally. When you get to the complexity where you need an accountant, might be time to move on.

Pros: Very user friendly, intuitive, and good accounting controls in place to help the non-accounting folk don't get lost down rabbit warrens.

Cons: Can be frustrating when coming from an accounting back ground, not being able to control or direct everything in your financials. Asset management system is much better than others in the market, but still frustrating.

Comments: Anyone can use this accounting software, even people that aren't good at general accounting. Recommended to small business users and medium sized business owners.

Pros: I love how the user interface has been designed so well and is so easy to use, even though I am not that proficient in accounting. Automated invoicing works a treat and sends out nice invoices and reminders.

Cons: The only thing that I would change about the product is the pricing. If it was a little cheaper, the package would be perfect.

Pros: The reports look very professional and modern. It is simple to navigate the software and it is very cheap to purchase.

Cons: It is a little to simple for large companies to use, it is better suited for small businesses that have their less need for extensive internal controls. Large companies would probably need something tailored to suit their needs. Xero has a very good easy to use chart of accounts (for setting up). I just feel off the shelf software is really only appropriate for small business. Auditors do not like off the shelf products due to the way data can be manipulated .

Overall: Used this when I was working in public practice, lots of small business clients would drop their data in to us on a usb key and it was easy to import into our version of Xero so that we could work on it. Data can also be emailed, so saved time for clients having to visit our office.

An excellent accounting software clubbed in with a lot of features adaptable for all kinds of businesses.

Pros: Data security is enabled. Helps to easily manage the reports. Permits access to multiple users. Can be accessed from any device. The dashboards help you to quickly grasp the financial status of your firm. Easily generate reports. You can also store the contact information of your stakeholders. The software initially offers a trial period after which, you can choose your desired plan. Offers a lot of innovative features for management of cash flow and also to analyze the financial data.

Cons: Inventory management function lacks in features. The application is not ideal for large businesses. The global version that is available for most of the countries lacks in printing capabilities. The entering of preferences all the time is, in fact, a tedious task.

Pros: Easy to use user interface, not much accounting knowledge needed to use this platform.
Admin can restrict access for available users which is convenient.
Everything is straightforward and simple, the terms Xero apply with it's platform is simple as well, not any fancy accounting language. It's not mind-clogging to use Xero.

Cons: Certain complicated transactions aren't available, especially for reporting purposes, it would not be included.
Moreover, Xero has it's limitations in terms of other software integration. We had problems integrating Xero with Orderhive previously.

Overall: It makes my day easier as the navigation is fairly straightforward.
It's also easy to get interns to key in accounting details without much explanation.
However, I think this software is only suitable to SME businesses.

Pros: The best thing about Xero is that if ANY accounting software (for a small business) has a connected app it will be Xero. We were able to connect signature software to Xero. Also, you don't need to pay for expensify if you have Xero, as it already has that functionality.

Cons: Xero is aimed at Accountants and so for very small business owners (who don't have an accountant) it might not be ideal. If you fall in this bucket I'd recommend Hurdlr.

Comments: By incorporating Payroll, we were able to streamline our wages and salaries, it saved us a lot of time.

Pros: It is very easy to use. Retrieving reports from the software is great, almost everything you need for reporting is available or customisable. They also regularly add new reports. The Community is good, I have referred to questions placed by other to find out how to do something.

Cons: There is limited inventory management and you are limited to only 2 active tracking categories. More guidance could be available when setting up a payroll system - there have been times when leave balances have not updated on an anniversary.

Pros: It is easy to use for invoicing, paying bills and even expense claims. We can have many users and the access options we choose from for each are really well set-up. It is easy to link a bank account to the software and keeping track of the money that comes in and out through a reconciling process, which allows you to see every transaction, even those you haven't necessarily created a claim, invoice or receipt for (i.e. credit card transactions transfer from online registrations/sales). Receipting is also very quick and easy to do.

Cons: Certain functionalities are not necessarily logical (for example when submitting an expense claim with 2 pages worth of expenses, if you're not carefully selecting everything on the two pages, you will end up having to pay the expense in multiple transactions or cheques).

Overall: Paying bills is way faster with this software than when done by hand (the options available for printing company personalized cheques are very useful).

Pros: The system is easy to use and has some very good integrations, it makes sharing your accounts with the bookkeeper and accountant very easy. The reporting feature is also very good.

Cons: It would be good if it was easier to download your information to make sure its backed up. I have also had a few small issues where my bookkeeper has done something a little differently and ended up with rounding error that has to be corrected manually.

Payed for a new service that Xero could not reconcile.

Comments: I am very disapointed in Xero. After all the troubles I have had with using there service they do not want to refund my money. This is the 3rd company I have created with them and this is not the first time there has been problems with the bank reconciling.

Pros: *It has some good features and alot of support videos. *it is fairly easy to use *Has a decent app.

Cons: Worst support I have ever dealt with. No phone contact support I was being sent back and forward through email between Xero and my Bank to try and fix the reconciling problem. After 3 weeks of contacting Xero and my bank and still the problem was not fixed I decided to cancel my subscription

Pros: I like the flexibility in the features. It has functions inside the program that other systems require a separate POS system, just to handle. Love the style of the reports, invoices, purchase orders. Look very professional. The help center is phenomenal. You'd probably never need to actually speak to a Xero representative.

Cons: Coming from a QuickBooks background, it can be a bit rough to figure out the best way to use it for efficiency. The search function is a little bit more cumbersome than QuickBooks. In general, it's good to have a few tabs of the company you're working with open at once, to really be able to get some work done. The 'reconciling' function is not necessarily something to dislike but it is just different (again, coming from a QB background).

Recommendations to other buyers: Try to do a trial run first. Think of every situation your company has in terms of daily operations, and how your accounting team needs to work. Enter every possible transaction that could happen, and see if you like how the program has you process it. Will the accounting team be able to easily reconcile?

Pros: The ease of reconciliations, it has made it easy to understand and complete. This is no longer an intensive monthly process, I can keep up to date with my accounts on a daily basis.

Cons: The payroll, I understand that it is an accounting system not a payroll system but payroll it not as easy as it could be. It is also not practical for employees on an award. I find it only works ok for salaried employees.

Comments: Just read the email templates and you will realize that this software is not for professional companies. I also don't appreciate, that Xero uses the data from their customers to supply the government with info as to how the savings from reduced company taxes are used. This can work directly against businesses and is not covered in their terms and conditions.

Cons: too expensive, lots of short comings, company uses customer data to supply info to government, terrible customer service (just try and find a phone number on their website).

Overall: Xero has been great for us, we've used it since we started the business in June 2010. Its integration with Capsule has been handy and features like recurring invoices are invaluable to a retainer-based business like ours.

The pricing model is reasonable and our accountants like it, as does our book keeper who can work remotely and understands everything that is going on. Bank feed integration is also invaluable.

Cons: I had never intended to use payroll within Xero, but once I signed up for the accounting functions I found that payroll was included for five employees. I really like their payroll, it's incredibly functional. But, as we grew the company we had a need to use payroll in more than one state, which Xero cannot handle. I had to migrate our payroll elsewhere because of that, but that is the only reason.

Pros: Xero is an incredibly intuitive bookkeeping and accounts package. I love the way your accountants are linked directly into the software making it very easy to ask questions and have issues resolved. The service is updated continuously (for example payroll and quotes are recent additions to the service), and I love the fact that everything can be done paper-free with scans and documents stored in the service. The mobile apps are a bonus and let you manage the finances of the business on the move. The support and engagement with customers is also great. Finally, it also integrates with many of our other business systems (like Quote Roller and MailChimp), streamlining our business processes.

Cons: The only downside is that there is no Windows phone app.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take the free trial. You won't regret it, and you'll see how powerful the software is. Xero is also offering a free import service from your existing package at the moment, which is awesome. Even if it isn't free any more, it's worth exploring that option.

Pros: Easy to use and customize. I find the reconciliation screens easy to use. I really like the way Xero has created a community of professional support as well as peer support with their communities. I can almost always find the answers to my questions within minutes of running into a roadblock.

Cons: I wish their were more bank feed options. Also, at times I when finish creating or editing a transaction the next screen presented is not what I would consider the logical place to lead to. I spend a lot of time navigating back to previous screens.

Cons: Invoicing has some limitations, eg there is no way to add a date field to an item. I have to manually type this in the description on every invoice which is tedious. The find & match doesn't work very well for me. I receive bulk payments for multiple invoices (sometimes 50+ invoices in 1 payment). It's time consuming trying to filter and match all invoices, especially when the max list per page is smaller than the number of invoices I have to match.

Cons: Does not handle projects and/or jobs very well although with a bit of thought can work around.

Pros: My accountant likes it and uses it to speed up the reconciling. I like how it connects with VEND and other apps.

Comments: Easy to integrate! I use Infusionsoft for CRM and HelloSign for contracts. I enter the key fields in Infusionsoft which triggers an invoice in XERO (accounting) to be automatically sent and a contract from HelloSign to be filled in and sent. Within minutes I have a signed contract, received funds and everything is reconciled in Xero.

Pros: This software is so easy to use and the User Interface is attractive and intuitive. The mobile application makes spending, invoicing, billing and reconciling a breeze!

Cons: I really like this software, but it is a little hard to reconcile when you split up line items.

Pros: The UI design is beautiful. The interface is very easy to use so as long as you have a curious brain (and the patience to read). You will have no problem managing your business's finances, even if you know nothing about accounting. I guess the thing I like most is that it makes accounting accessible to everyone, and the system teaches you financial management just by using it.

Cons: I dislike the lack of language support, and it's not convenient for international businesses. My business operates in both Japan and the US, and we are unable to invoice in Japanese, record bills in Japanese, or reconcile our Japanese bank accounts. I understand that Japanese law prohibits some third party software connecting to certain bank accounts, but it sure would be nice to manage both sides of my business in Xero, even if I had to upload a csv every month.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you don't understand something, ask! There is a huge help section and the customer service and Xero is great. I was nervous that my email was going to get lost and forwarded to a robot or something when I mailed their customer service. However, I was pleasantly surprised that their response was timely, friendly, and helpful. There was even once incident where they walked me through the system over the phone to help me change from intuit to Xero. You just don't get customer service from online services like this anymore!

Pros: Xero lets me manage a globally distributed company with globally distributed accounting software. My CFO and my accountants are 3 hours and 10 hours away from me on the planet. But, we are able to all seamlessly collaborate with Xero - huge plus. Also, the ability to generate invoices that can be paid with one click - priceless!

Cons: To be fair to Xero, I think that what I'm about to say applies to all accounting software - it has a bit of a learning report. Learning how to get the reports you need can take a little time, and sometimes it isn't intuitive. Luckily, they have a great support team that will walk you through it, and once you get it, it really isn't that bad.

Overall: It makes handling our accounting easy.

Pros: Very easy to use, functional for even the most basic user, and the bank feed/bank reconciliation feature is fantastic

Cons: I cannot understand for the life of me how the Plan structure works. starter with 1 employee and then if you have even one other person employed (even a casual admin assistant for a couple of hrs a month) the Plan fee is per month.My work around is a /mth subscription (12mths 50% off)with Quickbooks and just use it for payroll and for the <30mins it takes me to do a payroll journal each quarter, I get to save per year. Xero - how about you give small business a bit of slack and at least allow for more than one employee on the Plan. I'd pay it.

Brilliantly thought out and most recent updates have made it more efficient.

Pros: The reports setting and it's filter, the automatic bankline features and the fact that it does stick rigidly to accounting principles so you can't go that wrong. The import from excel feature does save hours.

Cons: I dislike how you can't look (and potentially undo) things that you have just done, for example falsely raising an invoice from the excel function since there is no batch delete option for awaiting payment invoices which may have been incorrect.

Overall: Makes book keeping easy for me. Very easy to navigate rent payments and such.

Pros: Flexibility, it's easy to undo and re-do transactions.

Cons: Additional functionality is charged as extra - e.g. Payroll

Overall: Xero is quick to set up but you need some accounting experience . However, unlike quickbooks it has more functionality and is very adaptable. You can add functions over time such as payroll. We have two businesses operating from the US and the UK and both refer to local laws and taxes. Some functions take a while to work out, split invoices and payments, accounting for forex, the fixed asset register is also cumbersome. Xero is a good bridge between Quickbooks and bigger accounting packages such as SAGE or SAP.

My experience has been great. Xero easily allows me to manage my company's books.

Pros: I like that I can do EVERYTHING from Xero -- run payroll, pay taxes, track income and expenses, run reports, etc.

Cons: Xero is occasionally "down" and I am without access. These occasions are infrequent, but seem to happen when I need access the most.

Overall: Xero saves me time and effort, as I don't need separate accounting and payroll software. It's easy to use and saves me time.
