Using Smore has been a change-maker indeed. i can recommend it highly Pros The ease with which I create my newsletters. It gives our organization a more professional and fun look. Pros I love how it makes our newsletters so much more engaging. It is super easy to build a newsletter that looks like I spent hours on, when really it took 30 minutes or less. Cons I wish it had a little more freedom to adjust the different looks. I also wish the design would show up in their email just as it looks, without having to click another link. If they can improve on saving capabilities or provide a way for an undo or revision history similar to google docs I could highly recomend this tool. For now I'm beyond mad. Pros cute. I have used it for a year now and it has made my newsletters for my classroom better looking and easier for viewing on cellphones. Cons I am so frustrated that the saving sometimes works but sometimes not. After spending an hour on a newsletter it suddenly was gone. All of it except my heading. Spent an additional hour redoing. This time, the very misleading remove button attached to a photo deleted the entire newsletter not just the photo that the remove/X is attached to. This has happened to my entire team at some point. I am having a fun time exploring new features. I feel like I am putting a personal touch on communicating with my students and parents. I feel very creative and I like the sense of community that having a class newsletter brings to virtual learning. You can see your analytics to track engagement. I am enjoying sending out updates in a way that is organized, creative and personal! Pros As a virtual teacher I sometimes feel like I am losing out on having a personal relationship with my learners and their parents. A newsletter is a fun way to share class updates with parents. Smore is pretty user friendly. I played around for a bit and was able to design a modern and colorful newsletter. A great way to keep remote students feeling connected! We publish their academic and personal accomplishments. I post their upcoming assignments here instead of just on the class bulletin page on our teaching platform that lacks any creativity. You don't need any artistic ability to use this program because they have ready-made templates available of that is what you prefer or designing them yourself. ( Although designing them can be fun)! There is a free trial. The actual paid plans include individual for someone like me who wants to reach their own individual students and families. If you have larger needs they have several plans that you can use on your own or even as a team. You can make as many newsletters as you choose to. I started out using pre-made templates and only just started designing on my own. It is entertaining to try different colors & fonts and play around with the editing features. Smore really values remote teachers and actually designs templates specifically for remote learning. it is refreshing to be acknowledged on the same level as brick and mortar teachers. Cons I have not found anything yet that I have disliked. Although I am a fairly new user, I have not encountered any issues. The cost may look intimidating when first looked at but users will find that at less than $80.00 yearly for the service, you are paying a minimal cost per month. Some schools actually give teachers a small personal stipend for class supplies or subscriptions. This would be an excellent place to funnel that extra cash because it is a great way to build a feeling of community between class parents, students and teachers! Review Source JP Jennifer P. As a teacher I can easily, so very easily, send out monthly information and updates to students and their families. This sounds normal but it’s the features that Smore includes - integration with everything Google, YouTube, and you name it! So easy to send out a newsletter with a video attached, or a survey for parents to fill out, or photos to share, or ANYTHING! An amazing one stop shop product for communication. PLUS, it includes some awesome analytic features for the user as well as very easy ways to share your newsletter or poster or whatever is created. Furthermore, students are also able to so easily use Smore to CREATE and demonstrate their learning. Smore is a very powerful and effective tool that all ages can use. It takes time to learn how to create your template the first time. There is a great integration with Blackboard for mass messaging. Cons Customer service. There is no phone number to call. When I inquired about having someone from the company call me about a Teams account for my office staff, they stated they only communicate through email. I have received 15 promotional emails and not one of my five requests for a quote on a Teams account. It has been over two weeks. Review Source SF Susan F. Recent updates have made it so that I constantly have to verify usage if I switch between working at home and work. Also, the company has chosen to increase the amount. I feel that there are other services I can utilize that are not as expensive and I can use links within their program without having to pay a fee. Also, the fact that customer service was unwilling to work with me and gave me the same cookie-cutter answer, I will not use them in the future. Pros The program is user-friendly and you can create a newsletter with a link. Cons The customer service is not supportive. You are given the same answer from either the customer service person or the manager. When I was 2 days late canceling the service, I was told I could not cancel and the only option is to "gift" the service to someone. I was looking at moving from paying personally to having the company pay for the service; however, since encountering this situation, I have decided to look elsewhere and have notified my business office in regard to this. It has calendars, links to surveys needed from his school, the school can put announcements on there and know that all parents at the school will get the needes information instead of trusting a piece of paper that would more than likely get lodt in our kids bookbags! Pros This software is used by my sons school to keep parents up to date on all announcements or events going on at the school or in our town. You can attach numerous links so all information for multiple different websites is all there on one page for parents to have access to. Cons I love this software. Pros As a K-12 Instructional Technologist, I create monthly newsletters that share technology tips and tricks. Smore has been my favorite format to use! I can easily include text, images, embed videos, hyperlinks, and it looks so professional. I love getting to see the stats too for how many views it has received. It was, overall, very easy to use and send to others. It offers a great way to share information, links, and updates with many people in a single place. Pros Using this software to create a newsletter, the program was user friendly and created a clean look to present the materials. It was easy to share the finished product digitally, and to go back to edit items even after sharing. Cons For those who did not have internet access, creating a pdf version of the finished product was not very neat. It only takes a few minutes to set up something that looks great and is easy to follow. Cons For those who are super controlling about graphic design and formatting, this may not be the service for you.
