I started using this about 3 months ago and no major roadblock till now. It's great! Pros I love the fact that Openshot can be used for free on any operating systems. I am using it on Linux. It serves multiple purposes. You can edit videos, add tracks, add transitions and export a High Quality Mp4 very easily. You can pretty much do everything a paid video editor allows. Cons So, when you are playing a video after adding your desired tracks and cropping the videos, the track stutters and looks low quality. However, once you export the video, it seems to be perfectly fine. I didn't realise that fact until I actually exported the video. Overall, it's a great tool. Review Source Michael J N. It serves me well and the best part is it's free! Pros I love how easy it is to trim video recordings to make shorter clips in web friendly video formats. Also handy for adding text overlays. Cons My first experiences with the software resulted in some instability and crashes but the most recent updates seem to have resolved these issues. Works on low-end pc as well and user interface is very intuitive and easy to use. It has all the features required for editing a video for an average user and gets the job done. Though it seemed a bit daunting at first, I quickly got the hang of it rather quickly, all thanks to the following software pros: Pros The availability of a large number of online tutorials on just about anything related to it; how to trim a video, add effects, add subtitles —you name it, there’s a tutorial out there for it. Its simple layout makes sure that everything you need is right there; front and centre, without the complicated drop-down menus. It’s open source. Therefore free to use. Cons There are the occasional bugs that need to be ironed out, for instance: the hanging when exporting videos. Lastly, and this isn’t a major con, but as with any free software the UI could use a bit of polish. Review Source MM Michael M. Editor Writing and Editing Used the software for: I used a free trial ### "Absolutely worthless" September 12, 2022 1.0 Going in, I was told this was a bare bones editor, but I figured that was okay because what I needed to do was very basic. My client did a speaking engagement and the video was in two parts. She wanted me to edit the last bit from the first file to the beginning of the second, so that each part would be all of one of the two topics she spoke on. This worthless program couldn't even handle that simple task. The program only recognizes MP4 files as video and could not read the audio from it no matter what I tried to do. It also automatically reduced the video to 1/2 framerate for no reason, and I was not allowed to change it back. It also decided to flip the video (which was taken on a smart phone in portrait mode) to landscape mode, again for no reason, and again I was not allowed to change it back. As near as I can tell, this program's only use is adding music over still photos. So I guess if you're 13 years old and trying to create an anime mixed music video for your Youtube channel, yeah, this program can do it. For literally ANY OTHER USE, this program is worthless garbage. Pros I never found any good uses for this product. Cons Can not handle even simple tasks. Pros I recently started using this tool and I think its a great value addition. You can do multiple things like, cropping a video, adding sound track, converting to mp4. It serves a lot of purposes with absolutely no cost. Its supported on different operating systems, I am using it on Linux and Mac. Both are great. Love it. November 28, 2018 5.0 If you are experimenting and want a completely free/ open-source solution for your video editing solution this software is for you. I just update it to my KVM VPS and I have a cloud editor all by myself. The feature is simple, effects are not that impressive but it workes. Pros This is the most awesome piece of software for videos editing. I just install it to a VM and use the app to convert/create/edit video using its api. Just awesome. I have also tried the desktop version with GT710 my entry level card and its output was smooth. Playback for 1080/30fps is just smooth and doesn't take many resources. As it is an Opensource and community-driven software I can use it for free and for anything. Some transactions effects and sound channels. It is still its first stage and evolving rapidly. Cons As it is an Open-source software I have to wait if got any problem or find my own solutions for it. The effects are limited due to no team is developing them. Review Source Timothy K. I think it's better stability-wise now. Pros It's free! Also, it's simple, easy to use, a fair number of built in filters, transitions, effects, etc. Cons Kept crashing on me which would lose my work so had to save the pfoject every step, project files weren't transferrable would be nice to be able to package the project with assets so that you can transport it (reinstalled Linux). We were able to get the file ready for uploading, but once we wanted to overlay PowerPoint slides on the green screen things became more complicated and not as usable as we wanted. Pros The learning curve is very easy on this software! I was up and running within an hour without much research or instruction. Very easy and intuitive, very mouse driven, graphically driven, not pull-down driven. Cons The ability to do basic editing is great but there is not a lot more to do. If you need only basic editing it is so incredible easy!! Overlays, text can be done but are not as flexible as I wanted. Tried adding an overlay but it tried splitting the file to fit it in. Did more research and found out better way to make it work but it was not as intuitive as I wanted. Was going to recommend to a friend, but after the editing experience I decided to recommend something for flexible and powerful. I have gone back and forth with the software. I used the free version and met my needs and exceeded expectations thus far. I'm able to do some video and sound editing and modification and the software has different enhancements that you can do for videos, like adding text and animations. I wish there was a more in depth tutorial within the software but they do have an active reddit community where you can ask questions or just browse to get tips for projects. Pros I'm a beginner at video editing and this software is easy to use. They have a free version with lots of features that suit my needs for youtube and work video editing. Cons The software starts out with a tutorial that walks you through some basic functions, I wish there was an option to continue with the tutorial to have it explain some additional features and how-tos of the software. Pros It's easy to use and has a user-friendly interface, it doesn't matter if you are a beginner or professional you can still use it with ease. I like making slide shows with OpenShot using some animating effects a built-in feature of OpenShot to make nice-looking photos that are jumping around the screen. It has a lot of built-in functions, pre-made titles and you can integrate with blender and Inkscape to create your own animated titles.
