We accomplished the business requirement and asked for some minor changes in the tool, which were implemented quickly. We had some issues installing the tool and during the first data exporting but the support was fast and good; They solved the problem and provided a hot fix for us. Pros We need to use a tool to export data from OutSystems to an external database, changing the database type from Oracle to MSSQL in the process. DMM allows us to do so, saving time and money, because developing an application to do these tasks in OutSystems or ETL tools is more expensive than acquiring the DMM product. Cons Even though exporting the database from OS (source) into external databases works, the logging details are not the best. With this data migration tool, we were able to migrate data between servers in a more straightforward manner and without all the post-migration hassle of personally ensuring all compliances were followed and all data has been properly migrated. From my perspective the simple manner in which one can easily create a connection to a given DB server/catalogue and create/execute a data migration procedure is the best feature of Infosistema DMM. From a data manager point of view the possibility of performing data scrambling and anonymization to data existing on prod environments before migrating it to dev is also extremely interesting given the need to comply of privacy and security requirements. Cons From a UI perspective, Infosistema DMM still has a margin for evolving given its current simplicity. Considering it is to be enclosed in an OutSystems environment maybe it could follow existing themes and give users a more “familiar feel” and a more intuitive experience for those using it for the first time. When dealing with data, reliability and integrity is fundamental to avoid data loss or data mangling, and DMM has become a mature and trusted product that accomplishes that. Pros Data migration is the core use case for DMM and that capability has become easier to use, but the tool has also gained advanced features to help us deal with complex needs and corner cases. It has also evolved to other data operations beyond just migration and can now do much more, becoming a more complete solution to handle data operations with other useful capabilities. FYI, we recently improved feedback when selecting apps/entities to migrate, in that DMM presents a pop-up saying which additional referenced tables it found - by default, when using DMM you don't need to worry about data dependencies, since it will automatically detect all dependencies and create a migration plan involving all of them to guarantee data consistency. What we did more recently was improving the feedback to the users of when DMM automatically selected additional dependent entities. We are always searching for ways to improve our products and tools! FYI, DMM encrypts the data in transfer, and it has the ability to scramble/anonymize/replace/nullify any data fields that contain sensitive information, so it's not a security issue in the destination. Also all accesses to the DMM tool make use of the OutSystems access control features, through a specific DMM role. We are also developing a cybersecurity feature, that will give a report on the sensitive data you have in your OutSystems database, to help in ISO27001 certifications, security analysis and processes. The complexity of our application combined with the rapid rate of change would have otherwise required us to hire an additional developer dedicated primarily to this task. With DMM we have saved thousands of dollars and man hours. Thanks Infosistema! Pros DMM is easy to use and feature rich. It has been a lifesaver for synchronizing our Quality and Test environments using live data from Production. Migration configurations can be saved and loaded on-demand and even scheduled during off-peak hours to minimize impact during peak hours. The ability to filter subsets of data and obfuscate sensitive data such as personally identifiable data is a significant capability for privacy compliance. The responsiveness from support is great and their willingness and ability to implement feature requests in an agile manner is fantastic. Cons The user interface, while very easy to use, could benefit from some minor improvements when configuring new migrations. With a very large environment containing many modules and entities you may find yourself moving back and forth between two screens until you have located and added all of the tables you want to include, but other than that very minor issue DMM meets our needs perfectly. In the Trial or in the DMM Professional versions, the default behavior of DMM will be to migrate all users from Source to Destination, even if the migrated data doesn't have a foreign key (FK) to the user. You can use specific Application properties in any version if instead of just guaranteeing the users exist in the destination and create them if they don't (default behavior), you want to have DMM update User data for those users that already exist in Destination environment.
