March 29, 2018 5.0 Quick and simple engineering that is accessible and backed up. Pros All calculations are backed up in real time, and accessible anywhere. It is simple and easy to understand and there are explanations of what each of the available fields are used for. Cons This software is still in development and many of the features are not quite finished yet, but whenever I contact their support team I receive feedback quickly and they have even added features in after I have requested them. I always spent about 50% of the time to design the framing but with ClearCalcs I can run through framing calculations in no time. Pros ClearCalcs has everything you need to design your project. Modules include lumber, steel, cold form steel, column design, Foundation design , etc. It has made my calculations effortless. The link function is especially helpful to track the loads. No more running through hand calculations to find the loads. Cons I cannot say that I dislike anything about ClearCalcs. Every so often I run into problems but the technical support is great. Thorough explanations of data fields are given, and the staff is committed to thoughtful answers to questions that I have. Cons Sometimes a program's greatest strength can be a weakness, and sorting through the details of the program can take some time, but that's a minor issue. President Civil Engineering Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Great Design and Analysis package for Structural Projects" August 4, 2023 5.0 Had an engineering firm for 32 years with 14 employees in different disciplines and expensive software (AutoCAD, Revit, StruCalc, etc.) for special areas. ClearCalcs provides a great tool for foundation, framing, retaining walls, etc. of residential and light commercial buildings. It is a great tool to allow a small engineering firm to do projects that a large firm can't do cost effectively. With some more basic CAD capabilities it would be even better. I see ClearCalcs as a niche product for smaller (1 - 50 ) engineering firms; not really meant for high rise major commercial building projects. Please keep going the direction that I have experienced with you. Pros Ease of use is very good and learning curve is short. Support has been great, and webinars are also a great way to learn more and obtain Continuing Education credits. Cons Sometimes a little difficult to find the right input for a design - the info buttons are helpful. July 7, 2022 4.0 The learning curb is steep and intimidating to someone who needs answers without taking a semester to figure things out. In trying to be all things to everybody, you may have missed the boat for the kind of work that most people do. Pros The software has a complexity that other software does not, allowing me to use it for quite a number of different analyses. Cons Tech support is not the best. I asked about a project that I was working on. The response that I got was that CC does not do project reviews. I can understand that. But, I could have gotten a review of how I was using modules in the job to verify that I was using them correctly. The CC guys are the only ones whom I can ask. No one else in my firm knows how to use the software. Some of the terminology in the app is oriented toward full civil engineers, not other engineers who are doing civil engineering. Yes, CC has a range of how-to videos, but they do not cover all of my questions. Having people learn by videos also makes the learning curve just a little less steep than reading a manual. So, it comes down to this: if I can't get answers for my questions and get answers in a timely manner, I am not going to use the software. I find StruCalc much easier to use and more intuitive. Those guys also use terminology that I better understand along with simple illustrations that tend to be more understandable than the ones used by CC. The new version for StruCalc is also dropping today. I can't wait. You guys could try a little harder with your help. Keep in mind that most of the people using your software likely are solo or solo plus one. Your tech support is it for us. That's why I don't want to hear about company policies. ClearCalcs is able to easily channel somewhat difficult engineering mathematics while maintaining reliability and yielding few to no error. This allows the user to spend more time and energy focusing on decision making, and not equations. Overall the items are displayed as to how each sum was totaled and calculated and it also gives in-depth reasoning as to "why" the ratio is provided and what it represents in each case. Pros One of the biggest pros for us with ClearCalcs is that our engineers have access to the most current work templates. This is mainly due to the fact that ClearCalcs is could based as opposed to a downloadable program. We don't specifically need to employ IT specialists because the software updates on it's own. Team members have access to quick and efficient means to cooperate and finish tasks in short time. Organizational sharing on multiple formatted devices is another extended benefit. Cons ClearCalcs, on the whole, is great. I will say that there are a few small glitches that could be worked out. Once in a while we have to do a remote reset of the webpage. A positive to offset this would be that one can request certain things to be added on to the software package, and ClearCalcs attempts to assist in any way possible, sometimes even adding on your request. The customer support is especially good as it seems any issues I have that arise are solved within only a couple of weeks. Seems to be a far superior product to other similars I've used in the market and appears to be improving much more rapidly than the others too. The front end is also especially nice looking and easy to read and the cloud server makes it really easy to use from anywhere which is a major benefit over competitors. Pros The great aspec of ClearCalcs is how simple and easy it is to use it in order to compute structural analysis calculations. It's an awesome tool to have preliminary output, specially that it's a cloud based software and no installation is required. Cons It's simplicity comes at a small price: certain factors and inputs cannot be changed in order to give a product as simple as it is. More complex calculations should be done on more advanced softwares. March 4, 2021 5.0 If ClearCalcs has a calculation for it, I use it exclusively. I have yet to find another software out there with UI, output, and calculations that are even close to ClearCalcs. I am extremely happy to have found ClearCalcs for my structural calculations. Pros The features, user interface, and cost easily make ClearCalcs the best and most value for money option out there for structural engineering calcs. Cons Some of the inputs are a little slow and there could be a few more options for calculations including retaining walls, but they are constantly working through improving the available calculations and improving the UI. Furthermore, ClearCalcs uses customer feedback to prioritize their future software developments, which means they actually listen to and respect their customers! Cons Being that I was trained on another software that I used for years, it has taken me time to acclimate to the ClearCals software philosophy...so the learning curve was steeper than I thought it would be. Senior Engineer Civil Engineering Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "The software is easy to use, & has specs for the big brands so timber design is easy" June 3, 2018 5.0 Faster design, more accurate design, easier to modify calculations, just all around better than a spreadsheet and hand calcs and significantly cheaper and more reliable than any other calculations software I have used. Pros Rep and the team have been amazingly helpful, any issues are resolved almost instantly, faster than any other commercial calculation software I have used and they actually care. The support team are here in Australia and Rep has taken the time to personally contact me to see what my needs were and how ClearCalcs could assist my engineering design. The regular updates and Beta versions for upcoming are amazing. I have been able to provide feedback on some of the features I thought would benefit my experience and Rep and the team have worked their magic to include them. Its been a very rewarding experience and I should have found ClearCalcs sooner! Cons The only real negative is that when switching between calcs it does take a couple of seconds to re-run the numbers and provide the results. I'm not sure if thats just my internet connection, the servers or what. But considering I can really only nit-pick a 2-3 second delay when switching between calcs, the software is pretty flawless. Also since its cloud based it makes access to calculations simple and easy. Cons I have noticed sometimes the software glitches and a page reset is needed, otherwise only 'crosses' are shown.
