This latest version that I just got (Able2Extract Pro 19) has really replaced my need to use Acrobat Pro. I also just used their batch mode to go from PDF to excel on twenty-six 32 page files. As translators clients often provided material either from another platform or format. In order to ensure timely delivery, the copy has to be converted into a basic format conducive to seamless translation of copy. Cons Recently it has become necessary to couple Able2Extract with additional software to covert financial statements in PDF into a spreadsheet format without generating coded copy. Unfortunately, I have been able to successfully download the recommended software without an error message. Hence progress comes to a grinding halt. Reason for choosing Able2Extract Professional Years ago most conversion software addressed one format well then fell short in converting other formats. Able2Extract handled all my conversion needs. March 24, 2021 4.0 The software is easy to install and very user friendly, I have not had to contact support for help. Pros This software is an excellent tool for extracting schedules from plans. I especially like that it will convert it directly to an Excel spreadsheet and maintain the majority of the formatting. Cons I have run across a few fonts that the OCR does not convert very accurately. Reason for choosing Able2Extract Professional I looked at 7 different software programs before choosing this one. I chose this one because it is user friendly, there are not a lot of additional fees and cost involved to use the product, and the accuracy of the conversions. Unlike a lot of the competition the trial version was fully functional and I was quickly able to determine that the software would perform the tasks that I needed, making the decision to purchase a no-brainer. Pros This program is awesome. Apart from being able to convert a pdf into an excell sheet, or so many other file format conversions, I recently discovered, you can tak a pdf that does not offer searchable text, or is basically an image that has text in it, and convert it to a complete text file. Making it able to copy and paste, search and much more functionality Cons I dont really have anything bad to say about this program. The only thing they do a lot of updates and that requires an upgrade, granted at a discounted rate, but honestly the last version works so well, I dont always upgrade as there is no need. With regards to the font conversions, this is most often the case where the font in the PDF file is embedded. Embedded fonts cannot be perfectly extracted since most embedded font formats used in PDF aren't recognized by Excel and also because using such fonts could be considered a copyright issue due to their proprietary nature. As such, Excel (including Word) will try to find the best possible match from the fonts available on your computer, or if it can't, it will default to Times New Roman. So this may be what's going on. The best solution is to allow the conversion to occur and then to select the document text and change the font manually (from the list of fonts in Excel). For the column layout, if you haven¿t, try the Custom PDF to Excel option to correct the layout before you convert.
