Pros Ease of use. I can train a worker to use it in well in under two hours. It is also more accurate than any other stand alone OCR software I've experimented with. I've downloaded and used free trials of at least four other OCR software programs, and they don't do as good of a job at converting the fairly hard to convert (very old) images of tables I'm converting to data files. Cons Version 12 had just one new feature for converting, and Version 11 the year before had no new features. I was really looking forward to 12, because I was hoping they would add some of the suggestions I've made, but was disappointed. In 12, one has more of an ability to apply the same table structure to non-consecutive pages, but it has a bug and does not work well. My worker actually went back to using 11, she says 12 is bad. Some of the features I keep asking them for: 1) be able to specify that a column is nothing but numbers when manually setting table structures. This seems simple to program. 2) produce uncertainty estimates in cells next to the data table that is produced. This could speed up cleaning the resulting data file a lot. The program knows when it's uncertain, just have it report this. 3) Allow more keyboard shortcuts when setting up tables manually. It is common when setting up table structures to switch between "add column" (i.e., "add a column divider") and "delete column." It's often easier to just go through the entire file one time to add column breaks, and then go back a second time deleting unwanted column dividers. This is inefficient. 4) One should have the ability to specify in advance the number of columns tables will have before having Able2Extract set table structures. This is the first step of manually setting table structures as well as done in automatically converting. It saves time, rather than retyping or getting a word or excel original. I also create fillable pdf forms, rather than handwriting in the information. Pros The ability to convert docs from pdf and to create fillable pdf forms are two easy to use features. Cons Once converted to word the word doc contains format codes that need to be adjusted. And they stated that they would like the opportunity to fix the problem before I get a refund, however, I have yet to hear anything back from them and their engineers, and it has been over a week since my last communication with them. Pros It was easy to set up, and to use. The commands were relatively easy to learn. Cons This program failed to perform as promised. It did not transfer lines to my DWG program, it transferred characters to generate the look of lines. When my engineers zoomed in to work with the drawings there was no lines that were workable. Reason for choosing Able2Extract Professional Due to it claiming to transfer from PDF to DWG. After considerable work building my house plans, my program is not compatible with my engineers, so, I needed to change my PDFs from the copy center into DWG. I found this program with a general search, and it was worthless. October 15, 2024 5.0 This is by far the best pdf to Excel conversion tool I have ever used. And I used many of them. I got my full return on investment on day one, from the time this tool saves. For those who are curious, I'm a consultant in business appraisal and financial modeling for SME's, I receive and process pdf's with financial information on a daily basis. Pros Many steps I normally would go through manually are now automatically done. Other similar tools will either let you split the data manually before extracting, or will fully do it on their own while extracing it on a single click. This is the first time I used a tool that does both, as it pre-split data and then lets me adjust it before extracting. This is a game changer. Cons The adjustments before extraction (such as adding a column, removing a table, etc.) could be more fluid. If I need to add 5 new columns, I should not have to click 10 times back and forth, as I currently have to (I click on "Add Column" once, then on the column to add, then on "Add Column" again, then on the second column, etc.) Review Source AF Adam F. Pros ability to convert data and detailed descriptions to Excel and Word with a high success rate We deal with a lot of historic data that we scan to PDF and then convert for our use. This has been my go-to utility for extracting data from PDFs to load into SQL databases and Excel sheets. I've been a user since 2006 and I can not imagine going back to OCR and manual correction. Pros This software is very able to use and for the vast majority of the time, the simple automatic settings work flawlessly. For those other times, the simple interface lets you tweak the settings. Cons Version 12 changed the extract to Excel algorithm which added a empty column to one of my financial reports. It didn't change the report other than to have an empty column that must be deleted before I can copy and paste into my financial model. This is not a big deal, just the only con I can think of.
