### "Highly reliable and scalable storage though it has a bit of a learning curve."

June 2, 2026

5.0

My overall experience has been highly positive. I use it primarily for data storage and document management and it serves as a highly secure, rock-solid backend for backups. While the initial setup and AWS console have a bit of a learning curve. the value for money and the absolute peace of mind regarding data safety make it completely worth it.

Pros

The best part about Amazon S3 is its reliability and how easily it scales. Whether you are uploading small text files or massive data backups it just works without any lag. The file management and bucket system make it very easy to organize data once you get used to it. Plus the uptime is incredible I have never faced an issue where my files were unavailable when needed.

Cons

The user interface can feel a bit overwhelming and technical if you are a beginner. It's not as simple as Google Drive or Dropbox right out of the box. Also understanding the pricing structure(like data transfer out fees and different storage classes)can be quite confusing at first, so you really have to monitor your usage to avoid surprise costs.

### "Amazon S3 review"

June 23, 2023

3.0

Amazon S3 did exactly what I wanted it to do once I got past the setup obstacles. It is a bit difficult to navagate. Amazon does offer free training for their products which is a plus.

Pros

With Amazon being such a large company, we can use multiple technologies with only one bill. Amazon is well known and does a good job at storing and retaining my data. Amazon has many more features than their competitors which is great if you know how to set them up and run them. Amazon S3 does offer free training for their products which is helpful.

Cons

Amazon S3 platform is hard to navigate, I feel it is ment for an advanced user rather than someone who is trying out new technology. Amazon is a bit higher priced than many competitors.

Reason for choosing Amazon S3

I used Amazon S3 for several years before moving to a competitor earlier this year. We decided to move our storage to a cheaper solution.

### "Powerful and versatile, perhaps not so "Simple" Storage Solution"

April 9, 2026

4.0

As with all AWS; the learning curve is more of a wall than a gentle gradient. And, following suit on the above statement - spending 100 hours on the platform configuring and setting up absolutely doesn't guarantee that you'll be setting things up best practice first thing moving forward - there are always new updates; subtle changes and new ways of working that will have you frustrated and realising you "should've/could've/woud've" ; but now it's live and in production you can't! For all of it's miseries and hair pulling from a configuration standpoint however, the platform absolutely works seemlessly once it's set up properly and never seems to have issues with downtime, latency, or general availability. This extends from our personal experience where we have all manner of different interfaces accessing and managing the objects within S3; from end users using file connect clients to access and download/upload objects; to third party solutions accessing via API and interpreting objects in all manner of formats for automations and project managers to interface with.

Pros

A powerful file sharing solution included in the AWS suite of services and tools. It provides a platform that, using extended functionality (APIs, SSH, web console, etc) provides a plethora of various mediums for interfacing with files (or, 'objects') in this respect. Being part of the AWS platform means that there is almost infinite redundancy, functionality for global regional accessibility, and many more other admin settings/configs that can expand on the baseline service.

Cons

As with all AWS services; nothing is as straight forward as they would have you believe from the name ("Simple" storage solution is perhaps an exaggeration). Dependencies can/do include additional configurations such as region locking (Unless you want to get fancy with advanced settings and integrating other services); IAM permissions and access keys for access (How you configure this really is use case dependent); etc - Also worth mentioning that unless you are already familiar with AWS and their suite, expect to spend a good few hours going through and navigating the platform to understand the interconnectivity between functions and services. A final note to mention that trying to specifically find an easy readable guide on best practices is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack - difficult and likely to be difficult to extrapolate for your use case (especially when integrating it with more AWS solutions).

Switched from

[IBM Aspera](https://www.capterra.com/p/235275/IBM-Aspera-on-Cloud/)

A lot of partners, clients and suppliers have started to leverage S3 and it ultimately made more sense from an admin perspective to simply follow suit and have native interactions rather than constantly interfacing with AWS using 3rd party solutions

### "Industry Standard Cloud Storage"

April 8, 2026

5.0

Overall, it is a key cloud storage platform for our company. It is durable, secure, and an industry standard. It's great for storing, sharing and dumping large and datasets, which is vital for our workflow.

Pros

It is perfect for our cloud storage needs, it is scalable, and we only pay for what we use. It is also easy to set up S3 buckets for our clients to deliver them large datasets. We use Amazon athena and other apps which mean that everything is linked together well. It is a backbone service for our company.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve for non-developers, when I first started I wasn't too sure how to access files etc, and was scared to make big changes as didn't want to mess something else! Also, sometimesI'm not too keen to be locked into the Amazon ecosystem, as we are at the mercy of their pricing models.

### "Reliable, Scalable, and Easy-to-Integrate Object Storage"

March 30, 2026

5.0

Amazon S3 has been a core part of our infrastructure for storing and retrieving data at scale. It’s highly dependable and integrates well across the AWS ecosystem. Once you understand the pricing model and set up proper governance, it becomes an incredibly powerful and cost-effective solution.

Pros

Amazon S3 is extremely reliable and scalable. It handles large volumes of data effortlessly, and the durability (11 9’s) gives strong confidence for long-term storage. Integration with other AWS services like Lambda, CloudFront, and Athena is seamless, which makes building data pipelines and serverless architectures much easier. The API is straightforward, and SDK support across languages is excellent. Features like versioning, lifecycle policies, and fine-grained IAM permissions add a lot of flexibility.

Cons

Pricing can become confusing, especially with multiple tiers (standard, infrequent access, glacier) and data transfer costs. Without proper lifecycle policies, costs can grow unexpectedly. Also, managing permissions via IAM policies can be complex for beginners and may lead to misconfigurations if not handled carefully.

### "Reliable, Scalable Storage with a Learning Curve"

February 24, 2026

5.0

My overall experience with Amazon S3 has been very positive due to its reliability and scalability. While the pricing and configuration can be complex at times, it consistently delivers strong performance and seamless integration within Amazon Web Services.

Pros

What I like most about Amazon S3 is its virtually unlimited scalability and high durability, which make it reliable for storing massive amounts of data. Its simple object storage model and RESTful API make it easy to integrate with applications and workflows.

Cons

One of the main drawbacks of Amazon S3 is its pricing complexity, especially with variable costs for storage classes, requests, and data transfer that can be hard to predict.

### "efficient cloud storage service with seamless support to API integration. "

February 6, 2025

4.0

It is a good cloud storage service, which any organization can leverage keeping in mind of the costing. Our compliance and Audit is taken care by storing all the necessary and raw data.

Pros

It is one of the most cost effective cloud storage service. Best for industrial use we store our 3rd party application logs. The same logs are fetched and retrieved using API for querying. The service can be well integrated with 3rd party applications by defining the adequate scope of API.

Cons

The cost forecast for the service is not accurate. There is room for improvement. The over head charges sometimes feel beefed up. There is also sync delay sometimes.

### "An Amazing Experience with S3 Storage Services"

August 7, 2024

5.0

I used Amazon S3 as a storage service in a Snowflake environment. I was amazed on how easy it is to integrate between the two environments as well as how fast it was to retrieve data stored in S3 from Snowflake.

Pros

Amazon S3 is one of the amazing storage service I have used as a data engineer. It's ability to store variety of data types (structured, semi-structured and unstructured) as well as the ease at which it can store and retrieve any size of data makes it a fantastic tool for big data engineering.

Cons

My only con is the cost effectiveness especially when used as a learning environment.

### "Simple and flexible service for Storage Solution"

March 5, 2022

5.0

S3, at least in terms of distributed storage, has genuinely transformed the world. Calling an API, pushing data to it, and then forgetting about the data center that holds it is an idea that none of us would have believed a few years ago, yet here we are, with massive quantities of businesses relying on S3 and prospering. Since the first introduction of S3, Amazon has constantly developed and released capabilities, each of which is incredibly valuable and complementary to the preceding feature set. We utilize S3 for a variety of applications, from public UGC buckets for web apps to internal data vaults that store sensitive and confidential information that is protected at rest. S3 is a good fit. I began by utilising S3 as an off-site backup service, then expanded to include additional services. It performs its goal admirably, although it is a touch inconvenient, with several modifications along the process and a rigid business strategy.

Pros

We don't worry about the help since we're on vacation because it's so accessible and repetitious. Use Amazon's SDKs to get basic functionality from a variety of structures, or create your own. There are a plethora of container techniques and security improvements that may be tailored to meet the demands of individual clients. Solid compatibility with the AWS biology system, notably in terms of access permissions. It's so reliable that you can count on it to stay online and available from anywhere in the earth. Its static site facilitating feature is a hidden gem: it provides the least priced, most reliable, and high-performing static web facilitating available in PaaS. In today's world, data is king, thus storing large amounts of data is critical. Amazon's Simple Storage Solution (s3) is the finest and most cheap cloud storage service on the market. On S3, we may store large amounts of data in a variety of formats, including documents, text files, PDFs, audio, video, and more. S3 offers a variety of storage choices, including frequent data and seldom used data that may be saved on AWS Glacier's low-cost storage. The data is stored on AWS S3 and protected with multi-level access protocols such as public, private, and so on.

Cons

AWS environment is riddled with perplexing and incomprehensible configuration options, and S3 is no exception. Fortunately, it's widely used, to the point that you can always find arrangements on sites like StackOverflow. Because S3 defaults to security rather than open access, getting IAM consents to work correctly for Static Website facilitating takes some trial and error. Because AWS S3 is incompatible with system-level applications such as desktops, it has to find a solution that is simple to use. We are unable to store files larger than 5 GB.

### "AWS Bucket a solution for everything"

March 12, 2022

5.0

We can use s3 so that we don't have to rent out a server only for hosting a static website which obviously costs us more. Anyone should first do some R&D on it because there are various types of buckets that can help them.

Pros

its best feature is that by storing our static website we can host it with the help of it. Not only that we can host the frontend and connect it with AWS lambda for backend purposes which helps in the reduction of the cost.If you want to host the site use it as it provides security by using the IAM bucket policy defined by us.

Cons

Its cons are that the AWS charges for not only storage but as well as the fee for data transfer outside the was environment which increases the cost. AWS UI lacks sometimes as when we delete or create something it shows a banner below the header not in the notification bell-like Azure.

### "Amazon s3 best data storage tool"

August 28, 2022

4.0

Amazon s3 allowed me to better retain my data in storage classes and increase my customer relationship.

Pros

Cons

What I liked least is how difficult it is for beginners to use it.

### "Gold Standard for bucketed data"

May 24, 2024

5.0

Pros

The bucketing system and file structure are easy to navigate, and the UI is intuitive. There's plenty of documentation, and the UI is approachable for those less technically inclined (we have folks with workflows that involve moving around some S3 data, but not getting much deeper than that, and being able to easily copy/move folders using the UI makes more sense than trying to teach CLI commands). No issues with reliability of access.

Cons

Integrations are most effective when using other AWS products, but that's fairly standard these days. Would love to see macros or AI assistance for regular, repeatable tasks.

### "a simple but fairly expensive cloud based data storage solution for your enterprise"

May 6, 2019

4.0

Overall experience is very good, and aws cli interface which nicely works with python and the linux terminal enables one to smoothen the overall aws s3 experiences. Because there are no restrictions on filesizes or file types, any company can host its data on aws s3 and be sure to have reliable service. The caveat with aws s3 is that one must understand that it is not a traditional database storage system, therefore will not behave like one. also ensure the admin of the software must be well versed with the various concepts surrounding aws s3 to enable the best bang for buck. I would recommend this without reservations.

Pros

Literally anything and every type of file can be saved to s3 buckets without any limitations. Images, csvs and what not can be easily and safely stored to s3 buckets. One can provision users to have specific permissions regarding bucket access. Literally 99.999% availability at most times.

Cons

it is only as good as the user/admin who knows how to make the most out of this software. there is a deep learning process involved without which one could be flying blind and exposing otherwise sensitive data to the public. the search functionality is practically absent. So there is no easy way of choosing or searching for files. the date columns on the UI seldom work

### "Highly available distributed storage system with additional features and settings "

August 25, 2020

5.0

I am having a great experience with Amazon S3, it really dose the things required in a really great way

Pros

This is a core part in most of our use cases , be it big-data computations , databases like redshift, aurora and snowflakes, be it for building a static or redirecting website and what not , it is i think the cheapest cloud distributed storage system and can be integrated with almost everything, integrate it with AWS Athena to analyse on file data, or run copy commands on snowflake or redshift databases to move the data around from or to db etc, or use it on hadoop hive tables by creating the external tables, it supports integration with java, python, or command line interface , so that you can automate the processes without any issues, and the s3 buckets can have security group attached, and lots of settings available in part of security, and can publicly expose some files , can create static web pages & redirecting web pages for both http and https (need some help from cloud front)

Cons

the file naming we is a problem if we have a starting sub string as a file name, example if i had 2 files namely aaabbb and aaa , when i like to select the data of aaa, the data of aaabbb is also selected , because the s3 always treats the file name as filename\* and one more thing is the static web support is good and easy to setup for http but for https its difficult need the help of aws cloud-front

Reason for choosing Amazon S3

i am not sure, we just went with the AWS servises as we used them for almost everything

### "Simple Storage Service by Amazon Web Service"

April 16, 2019

5.0

Amazon S3 pricing is designed so well that we can limit our monthly bill for S3 using the bill alerts. Different storage classes from S3 Standard to S3 Glacier Deep Archive can be set as per the objects needs. Big Data analytics help to manage and analyse the data lakes.

Pros

Amazon S3 provides the object storage with amazing web interface and a lot of features like scalability with great availability designed for 99.999999999 % on data durability. We can move our bucket's object to cost -effective storage class and the newly designed storage class 'S3 Intelligent -Tiering' move the objects based on access patterns. We can manage and monitor the objects with using tags and create the lifecycle of the objects according to tags. Multi-Factor Authentication can be enabled on delete operation which help in accidental delete operation. Versioning of objects can be enabled from bucket. The Cross-Region Replication helps in instant access.

Cons

Objects in the cloud are always vulnerable if firewall is not setup well. AWS snowball and snowmobile are either less availability or no-availability on geographical location.

### "Excellent way to store files"

April 14, 2023

5.0

Pros

Much easier to store and organise files in comparison to other sites. Being able to store a large number of sizeable files in one place securely is great. Easy to ensure only those who need the files have them and easy to revoke access too.

Cons

Slightly difficult to understand everything at first glance but once you get your head around the setup then it’s easy. So not the easiest to use straight away for novices.
