### " Amazon S3 service"

February 13, 2025

5.0

Amazon S3 is a reliable, scalable, and secure storage solution that integrates well with AWS services. While it offers great performance and durability, costs and permission management can sometimes be challenging.

Pros

Amazon S3 is highly scalable, durable, and easy to integrate with other AWS services, making it a reliable choice for efficiently storing and managing data.

Cons

Amazon S3's pricing can get expensive for high data transfer and frequent access, and its complex permissions system can be tricky to manage.

May 22, 2025

5.0

My overall experience with Amazon S3 was good,I truly have no complaints and feel like they have a great product that allows applications to be able to store data in buckets.

Pros

I liked most the fact that Amazon S3 can handle and track Any kind of amaount of data and the traffic that comes with it!

Cons

My least favorite thing about the Amazon S3 is the fact that the API can struggle with files larger than 5GB.

### "S3 is the gold standard for cloud object storage"

October 18, 2024

5.0

It's a great product that's always available and is the gold standard for object storage in the cloud. I don't have any complains.

Pros

It's simple, it works and it's cheap. Any time I need to store unorganised data my default is to put it in an S3 bucket. I love how it's the industry standard and any data analytics tools always have an s3 integration.

Cons

I wish I could see a preview of objects stored in the buckets without having to download them

### "Reliable and Versatile Cloud Storage"

January 24, 2025

5.0

Overall it's been positive in terms of storage, scalability and reliability. Initial learning could be challenging but once in the game it should be an easy and smooth ride.

Pros

Amazon S3 is pretty straightforward in terms of setup. It can handle small amount of data to the massive amount of data. The integration with Amazon services makes it a core part of cloud architecture.

Cons

The costing breakdown could be a bit tricky to manage and monitor. Since it's easily accessibility can make it prone to the dodgy public access of data leak.

It is easy to connect with my own Amazon-account, which I already have and use. Everything online, nothing to install.

Pros

It is an excellent backup for all my data, specially for my videos. Even not finished videos, I can store there.

Cons

It is Amazon and as a European I have to make sure about the data protection. But they use servers in Europe.

### "efficient cloud storage service with seamless support to API integration. "

February 6, 2025

4.0

It is a good cloud storage service, which any organization can leverage keeping in mind of the costing. Our compliance and Audit is taken care by storing all the necessary and raw data.

Pros

It is one of the most cost effective cloud storage service. Best for industrial use we store our 3rd party application logs. The same logs are fetched and retrieved using API for querying. The service can be well integrated with 3rd party applications by defining the adequate scope of API.

Cons

The cost forecast for the service is not accurate. There is room for improvement. The over head charges sometimes feel beefed up. There is also sync delay sometimes.

### "simple to use s3"

February 20, 2025

5.0

Overall my experience is good. S3 does exactly what it needs to do, and not much else

Pros

It is very simple to use, and integrate with from within java code.

Cons

searching for and downloading files from s3 involves a lot of clicking on the UI, and files are hard to find if you have a lot of data. The UI is a bit clunky.

### "Amazon S3 is the best storage provider on the web"

January 28, 2025

5.0

Very positive. It functioned to store data for our mobile apps and a mirror backup system in association with RDS and EC2 instance running laravel. It also stored our original archive before upgrading to a proper DAM (which uses S3 to store its data too)

Pros

It can do basically anything you program it to do.

Cons

Learning curve is quite challenging. Documentation is helpful but product is constantly changing and requires users to stay on top of their knowledge base.

5.0

Pros

One of the things I liked most about Amazon S3 was its reliability and scalability. The service is designed to handle large amounts of data and deliver it quickly without any interruptions or delays. This makes it perfect for businesses and individuals who need a reliable storage solution for their data. Additionally, the pricing structure of S3 is very competitive, making it a cost-effective option for storing large amounts of data. The user interface is also user-friendly and allows for easy management of data and access control. Overall, I found Amazon S3 to be a highly efficient and dependable cloud storage service.

Cons

It was challenging to set up and configure initially. The pricing structure can also be confusing and it was difficult to accurately estimate the cost. Additionally, data transfer and access speeds can be slow at times, causing delays and frustration.

### "Gold Standard for bucketed data"

May 24, 2024

5.0

Pros

The bucketing system and file structure are easy to navigate, and the UI is intuitive. There's plenty of documentation, and the UI is approachable for those less technically inclined (we have folks with workflows that involve moving around some S3 data, but not getting much deeper than that, and being able to easily copy/move folders using the UI makes more sense than trying to teach CLI commands). No issues with reliability of access.

Cons

Integrations are most effective when using other AWS products, but that's fairly standard these days. Would love to see macros or AI assistance for regular, repeatable tasks.

### "Swiss Army knife of cloud storage"

May 17, 2024

5.0

Pros

Uploading and finding files is a breeze, and knowing my stuff is safe and always accessible gives me peace of mind. Plus, the ability to scale up without breaking a sweat is a game-changer. But hey, let's talk about the elephant in the room - the pricing. It's like trying to decipher a puzzle sometimes, especially as your storage needs grow.

Cons

While Amazon S3 is fantastic for storing my files, sometimes retrieving them feels like waiting for water to boil. And yeah, that pricing labyrinth?

### "A huge and cheap tool for storing several TB of data"

November 14, 2023

5.0

Amazon S3 is the heart of our cloud architecture, providing all the buckets we need to read/write data, both from production and sand environment. It's highly integrated with other AWS services and it's quite cheap and easy to set up and manage.

Pros

It's a cheap solution for storing data. You can easily access AWS s3 both with data processing platforms (e.g. Spark) and client softwares (e.g. Cyberduck). You can also choose which type of storage fits better your need, depending of the access frequency (once a week, once a month, once a year...). AWS S3 supports all data format, while some of them (parquet and iceberg) are highly recommended for storing huge tables. You can also set lifecycle rules to delete old and unused files after a custom period.

Cons

As a minor hiccup, there is some trouble in deleting corrupted files.

### "The heart of the cloud is no longer limited to discussion of storage"

October 1, 2022

4.0

As storage, it is secure and economical, or it can handle processing that requires high performance, and detailed selection and configuration are possible. It is a basic and necessary function that forms the core of the cloud together with EC2. The price and performance change automatically according to the frequency of access, so content and variety can be chosen according to the user. S3's billing system is basically pay-as-you-go and control of the operation is straightforward. Considering the security, maintenance and start-up skills required, rather than owning an actual computer, it appears to be considerably cheaper.

Pros

Secure feel with ultra-high durability. Convenient data entry through integration with various services. Really easy and convenient. Flexibility to activate Lambda based on S3 events (but there are problems). Flexible security configuration by configuring S3 and IAM. Flexible pricing depends on the frequency of use (although it is cheap to start with). Recently, I was very happy to be able to use it as a data storage location for AWS Transfer for FTP. Since the server less FTP host environment was created, the operation is very simple.

Cons

The activation of the S3 event is not guaranteed. In exceptional cases, it may not trigger and you may have to write another Lambda for recovery. This is problematic.

Reason for choosing Amazon S3

From what kind of service should be configured for the cloud, taking into account the contents of the introduction, you can arrange the necessary specifications for storage and judge whether the S3 service is useful. I am sure you will get the performance you expect.

I think it has a high CP in the range of services like "right speed" and "right price" that are used in the cloud instead of expensive special services that are said to be very fast.

We are working on file manager design for health services and S3 has been our best pick to make this happen. Without S3, we might not have been able to do this. Thanks to Amazon.

Pros

My first love point is the documentations and easy integrations. Using the PHP SDK with the robust documentation had made our project fast and easy. Secondly, the cost... Using S3 for file storage is more cheaper than Dropbox. Thirdly: Ability to generate links and time of expiry is really great. I love this feature like cake.

Cons

We are expecting S3 to have a streaming feature. It should be possible to stream huge files directly without downloading it. Well, this feature does not affect us currently but we will definitely need this in the future.

Reason for choosing Amazon S3

We choose Amazon S3 because it's cheaper and the integration documentations are great and powerful. It has everything we needed for our project than Dropbox.

Switched from

[Storj](https://www.capterra.com/p/175835/Storj/)

We were scared of data loss or tampering since the storage is decentralized. This means that most of our files are stored on individual user system on the network which are not known. This is very scary when it comes to handling health data. Also their storage services is not HIPPA compliant So we had no choice than to switch.

### "Low-cost and reliable object storage"

August 2, 2022

4.0

Since it can temporarily store all kinds of data as a data lake, it was adopted as a storage destination for data generated by IoT devices that are difficult to predict and voice data for cloud services. With limited resources, such as local ones, it is difficult to estimate the initial investment and scale up, but using S3, there are no upfront costs and you only pay for the amount used.

Pros

The ultimate in cloud storage with the highest levels of availability and durability. Attractively, you can use storage at a low cost per TB. Data sent from IoT devices, logs from all AWS services, backups of AWS services, and so on. They can be stored in any format without worrying about running out of capacity resources, which gives us a great sense of reliability and security.

Cons

The fee schedule is confusing, making it challenging to estimate total costs. I want a more accurate cost simulation function. I also want a safety warning function because incorrect configuration increases safety risks.

Alternatives considered

[Google Cloud Storage](https://www.capterra.com/p/253631/Google-Cloud-Storage/)

Reason for choosing Amazon S3

Amazon S3 charges only for the amount used with capacity billing. Being object storage, although the architecture is different from file systems such as Windows and Linux, it can be used as if it were an instance file system. S3 is less expensive per unit of capacity than EBS or EFS. Although it is cheap, the data is triple-protected by default, so it can be easily used without backups.

Switched from

[Microsoft Azure](https://www.capterra.com/p/16365/Azure/)

Analysis processes, such as fluid analysis and structural analysis, generate a large amount of data near the TB. When the data is so large, it is not realistic to copy it to the company's server every time it is calculated. By moving it to Amazon S3, we were able to significantly reduce the costs we had with Microsoft Azure.
