I recommend if you want to have your own data center as private and as a native cloud I recommend using ECS storage from dell. save cost and save time. we have run it for 3 years and never have had a problem at all since 2019. Pros it's well integrated with VMware it works like native storage. the storage can scale as we need with a storage pool the storage can use as mixed, SSD with SAS Drive, and support mixed tier in case high IOPS we can switch to run on SSD. the interface and system are easy to use for the system administrator. We use it behind our Isilon NAS, where Isilon has policies that send data to ECS after a certain number of days without being accessed. The Isilon creates kind of a shortcut to the ECS from an administrator's perspective, but the user doesn't see the difference. We have never had any ECS down time, and EMC support is second to none. It is expensive for an archive solution, but you get what you pay for. Pros It is cheaper solution than performance-tier storage and is easily expandable. Once it's set up, there's not a lot of babysitting. Cons It does take quite a bit of work and planning to set this up correctly because it is not your typical file or block storage solution. But we used our EMC account/support team, and they are the best. Work with them, and you'll get there.
