Pros intergration with other applications is good, limited to who you can do card transactions with, Opayo/Elavon have become greedy and no other option to swap is poor. Cons Login is too secure, to complicated and an actual hinderance, it's become so slow and if you have no internet you can't use it it 100%. It's not the prettiest software and the UI feels a bit dated, but it's reliable — and that matters more when you're dealing with your actual finances. There are a lot of wish list features that would be nice to have. Pros It's easy to make adjustments or reallocations after a transaction has been posted, and easy to make the adjustment when looking at a posted transaction. Cons There aren't many features to customize the reports. For example, you can't really look up transactions for more than 1 fiscal year at a time, except in a few places (e.g. aging reports can look at more than 1 year but not the general ledger). The forecast report doesn't give many useful details but there are no customizing features at all. It would be great to if the project financials had more customization options. Customer support is always relatively quick to get through to and they seem to have a good knowledge and resolve any issue promptly. Cons We have quite a large package and the cost is quite high for a relatively small business. It is easy to control and it has been easy to control the accounts that I maintain. Pros Having used Sage 50 for many years, I knew my way around the system fairly well. When joining my present employer, I knew I could hit the ground running and a set of accounts that had been in a state of disrepair were under control very quickly. Customers and suppliers alike are easy to set up and control and the reporting is excellent. Cons I think parts of Sage are dated. I'm sure Intacct has better reporting but so much new software is being released with better reporting to Excel. I also took over a set of accounts that were badly mapped by my predecessors and changing the mapping is impossible. Rather than simply moving an account, a new one needs to be done and the original deleted. When invoicing, the ledger needs to be updated before an invoice will show on a customer account. Once the ledger is updated, an invoice can't be changed so I find that irritating. I have to mark an invoice as paid, even though it isn't because it won't show on a statement if I don't update the ledger. If a customer asks for a copy after payment, you cannot show the payment. Cons There are cheaper options available, but we are very familiar with Sage 50 so have stuck with it as the time involved with learning to use new software and transferring historical data and custom reports etc. would cost us more than any savings that we might make. Pros Struggling to find something that I like most. I find that uploading data is straight forward and quick. Cons The charity module is like an "add on" no real thought just a selling point. Items that were reconciled in years past are showing up again (payroll checks, vendor payments, etc) . System is purged on a yearly basis so this is unacceptable.
