Pros: Online accessibility - can work anywhere with an internet connection. Linking to bank and credit card accounts is handy. Linking to Bill.com and Expensify are also easy.

Cons: As a controller and an accountant consultant on the side, I would recommend the online version to small businesses with fewer than 5-10 employees and revenues under $1 million that have very few transactions. For companies that have multiple approval layers and AP invoices, you would need an add on app like Bill.com to handle. We use Expensify and Bill.com to handle expense reporting and AP. QuickBooks Enterprise edition would be a better fit for companies with more than a million in sales and more than 10 employees, but costs can add up on that platform. -Approval levels are very broad. If I want to allow someone to add classes, I have to give them access to banking and reports that are only for partners to see. Further a la carte customization for permissions would certainly be handy. -Speed - even with high speed internet, processing multiple AP invoices is very slow compared to the desktop counterpart. -Accounting integration - when allowing accountants access to the company file, downloading the GL needs to go to excel. If the GL is large, it may exceed the line limit for Excel. -Some reports are unable to use the custom fields. This creates problems when the custom fields are critical. in our case, we can't run a report of payments received that includes project numbers. In order to get that report, I need to use Zapier to extract payments as they come in and send them to a google sheet. So the only listing I have for payments listed with our custom fields is in Google sheets!

Pros: it keep track of your income and expenses by simply attaching your bank account.

almost does your tax return. lol

save a lot of time doing your data entry thus cost effective, no need for a special person to enter all your receipts etc

keep correct info on all money related transaction and balance your check book , can keep your spending and saving on check. I can make adjustments by just looking at my balance sheet. almost cool for idiots to use. :)

perfect

Cons: if i made a mistake and had to go hunting for the problem, but i can just call up support and let them know ( how stupid i was ) and they just fix it. so not really a con.

for invoicing however , can take a little polishing up especially if i am doing an estimate and need to send it out, i must be extra cautious.

Overall: experience with payroll is really cool, the software actually calculate the holdings and make life easy for me, definitely a robo accountant that i don't have to pay a salary to.

Over all experience : just love it and wish i had it from the beginning of my business. For new users, make use of support. Don't hesitate to call , ask questions , ask again if you have to they will walk you through it. Like i say be dumb and learn it . take the time to do so because the end result is amazing . knowing your finances is straight can save your life. aka....sleep well .

Pros: The team behind QBOA is constantly listening and improving the product. It makes my life so much easier to have all my clients int he same place. I can schedule my own work with reminders and to-do list for both me and my clients. The added feature of having my clients files at a click of a button in priceless. I also appreciate the ability to add non-QBO clients now.

Cons: Sometimes the interface and/or the links don't work for the training and ProAdvisor page. These don't have anything to do with the client files just resources for me but it can be annoying at times. I also have my doubts the info regarding the profile views and leads from prospective clients is accurate.

Overall: I have all my clients in one place and can easily switch from one to another with just a few clicks.

Comments: We have two companies, one is 4 years old, there other is 1.5, it was the perfect option for starting out on our iMac computers. I do feel that we've outgrown at this point, but you cannot beat the price for start-up accounting needs.

Pros: Very easy to use! It tracks everything we needed for our two companies (transportation / warehouse logistics and commercial equipment repair). Seamless for reconciling credit cards and bank accounts, easy general journal entries (year end, interest adjustments, etc), progress invoicing and job costing.

Cons: After a couple years of use and many transactions, the file becomes unreliable. Customer support said we need to start a new company file each year to avoid broken data (spent many hours on the phone with support multiple times)

Pros: After having a bad experience with Account Edge, we decided to turn to Quickbooks for a refreshing, good system that we could rely on. After using it for sometime, it's been probably the best accounting/payroll/invoicing/estimating program we've had so far. Everything is very simple, user-friendly and not too technical.

Cons: One issue we've had with the program has been, trying to give access to new users is a very hard task to come across. As simple as it sounds, we still haven't managed to get a new user linked to our account to do more work. I've been sharing my ADMIN account which is not advised because not everybody should have the same access.

Pros: I love the connectivity that QB has with other 3rd party applications that I use. I love the ability to see my clients and their balances with ease. I love the reports that you can build with QB. I also love that you can have separate users with separate access to the application.

Cons: Sometimes installation is a bit of a challenge. Setting up some of the features can be a hassle that requires contacting support and having them control my machine to fix the errors. I don't like that there is a new version every year because I get comfortable with the version that I have then something changes.

Pros: This software is VERY easy to use and navigate. The data input screens are very clear, concise and flexible. I think the flexibility of this software is my favorite thing about it. I also love that I can toggle and use other industry specific versions of QuickBooks. This is an AWESOME feature.

Cons: I guess the only thing I am not loving is the need for a complex password for every client. This is quite cumbersome and a relatively new requirement that I am less than pleased with. As an accountant, I will use QB for several clients every day. To enter a password every time is a pain.

Comments: We've been using QB desktop for years and loved, in particular, the reporting functionality. The Cloud version carries on the successes of the desktop version. But, while there are similarities, it is another program and will take a little time to fully master.

Pros: Reporting functionality Bank feeds, a specific model for QB. Full specced and lots of apps.

Cons: Not always quite clear where various functions are located.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you want a fully functioning cloud solution enabling most organisations to be catrered for, this must be your c hoice. Additionally, Intuit the owners are very big players in the world market so the software is much more likely to be here in the future than some of the smaller competitors.

Pros: What isn't to like? No matter if someone is a seasoned accountant, or a person new to accounting just starting their business, Quickbooks is very intuitive. Yes there are competitors, even free ones, but they do not compare to the functionality offered in this program. Best program and most intuitive accounting program I've ever used, hands down.

Cons: The only thing that I'm not fond of is the high cost of the online version as each separate company requires a different subscription which can get expensive. With that said, however, it is a fantastic program.

Pros: As usual Quickbooks met all the expectations

Cons: Withe 2019 version I had some problems at the time to print the bank reconciliations

Overall: Version for 2019 has problems at the time to print Bank reconciliations. Even that I was calling the Customer Services, and they try to fix the problems, for more than 2 hours, they can't. But doesn't means that they were not diligent, they put all efforts, but I need to look for external person to fix it.

I will recommend for a new version to wait until all bugs be fixed. I bought in December 2018, probably this is the cause that I found those problems. On the other hand 2019 version is a little slow when you are using firewall, but you can work.

Pros: Quickbooks is a robust system that can support a lot of different types of business. I used the desktop version for many years, and for the past 3 years have used the subscription service. The SaaS version is a big upgrade, but it still has a lot of issues. I do really like the ability to link to my bank account and automatically sort transactions. This has saved me a lot of time.

Cons: The main issues with Quickbooks seem to stem for a lack of leadership around product decisions. They support many different types of the software, and this makes it next to impossible to integrate with Quickbooks. Legacy issues have plagued the ability to integrate software with Quickbooks and this has had a real impact on users. The most common issue is duplicate imports of banking transactions. I have wasted a lot of time trying to identify duplicates created by the system instead of true purchases.

Pros: Quickbooks, allows you to save a lot of time, money and effort, while minimizing the chances of error in the tasks that have to do with this specific area. It is very efficient and easy to use and install. It's all you need to keep your accounting up to date.

Cons: This software is very complete, you do not need to be an IT expert to install or use it. There is not something that you really do not like.

Overall: Among the benefits that I obtained when using QuickBooks is the quick analysis of invoices and past transactions, the export to Excel format, allows to establish the memorized transactions for recurring billing, invoices and estimates, organization of documents by joining the clients with your invoices and files. It also includes a new Prospects Center, in which sales opportunities are tracked, employee and supplier report sheets can be created and processed, and separate monitoring of each department of the company can also be carried out. .

Pros: Generally easy functionality. While an online version seems great, a desktop version means access everywhere. For someone running a mobile business, it's important to have that real-time information handy.

Cons: Features that are on the PC version and not on the Mac version. For instance, payroll is online for the Mac version and you don't see payroll paychecks as you can on PC. This is a very disappointing fact, since there is really no difference in platform that Intuit can't fix that

Pros: Have been using quickbooks for quite some time now as I am a small business accountant, it is amazing for book-keeping, no other application comes close even by a margin. An essential for book-keepers or even if you want to keep track of sales, invoices, cost analysis in a small-business setting.

Cons: On the expensive side, quickbooks online is lacking and not being able to hit the "enter" key severely impacts workflow, but non-the-less a solid bulletproof app.

Pros: QB Accountant allows us to open client QB files and work with them easily. It can deal with industry versions and older QB versions as well.

Cons: QB isn't always intuitive, and people get themselves in trouble by guessing about how transactions should be booked. Ultimately, it does what you tell it, and that can be good or bad. Sometimes, it's smarter than you think it should be, and makes adjustments that are unexpected, even if technically correct.

Comments: I have spent much more time with the online version for one of my companies(I have multiple people needing to see and work on accounting), however, with multiple other internal only accounting businesses, the desktop version works well enough to not pay multiple online subscriptions for each company.

Pros: You can use multiple companies with one license. It is relatively easy to switch from company to company. It's free to down load transactions from your bank account. Much cheaper, onetime purchase.

Cons: Downloading transactions from your bank account doesn't match up super accurately, especially if you have a lot of open invoices. It can be a little clunky to get around. Looking at what transactions have matched to downloaded transactions isn't possible, as far as I can tell. Reports aren't as easy to use as the online version.

Pros: I'm clueless when it comes to keeping our books and so the ease of use in QBO is really helpful. If I don't know what to do, I can find an article to tell me how or get someone from their tech staff on the phone to help. It's easy for accountants to log into our account too once we grant them access. I like the ease of processing payments, invoices, and receipts, as well as running reports on how we're doing. Quickbooks online a lot better than the offline version of the software.

Cons: Some features need some accounting knowledge, I will say. Mainly if you don't know how to file a charge or something it doesn't tell you waht to do, but once you know (or learn from the CPA) the features are easy to use in the program.

Comments: Unstable/unreliable, slow, technical support is frustrating and relatively expensive. I would definitely consider other products first and we are doing just that as a company.

Pros: Reasonably good functionality

Cons: Quickbooks Enterprise does not allow credit card processing in Canada Platform is unstable and slow Budgeting functionality lack the flexibility to do reports by account class Memorized reports frequently fail Technical support is beyond frustrating and often support issues associated with the online viewing contrast with technical support of the software itself and often the two different departments disagree on the source of the issue duplicate invoice numbers are generated

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are considering using Quickbooks Enterprise - I would hesitate. The platform is not stable and is slow and any problems that are encountered result in dealing with confusing and contradictory support groups (please note this is different than Quickbooks Online which I have experience in as well and would be okay to recommend under certain smaller company situations).

Pros: Quick books are an all in one solution. It is accessible from anywhere .It's simple user interface makes it easy for even entry level professionals. It creates invoices and receive payments at one go. It has multiple interesting features like automatic mileage tracking, business expense tracking & quarterly tax estimates which makes one' s life easier. One of the best features is the payroll feature, everything is integrated so it doesn't take long and is calculated for you.

Cons: It is perfect for entry level but for growing businesses it lacks advanced features. It has very basic features which lacks advanced & necessary features like depreciation tables & footnotes below financial statements. Reports generated also lacks formatting options and unable to do detailed customization. For example one cannot find a detailed transaction report or summary report.

Pros: As a small business owner, quickbooks has been an effective tool to help organize financial data and keep it all in one place. It is nice to have the ability to take credit cards (with a 2.5% fee)

Cons: You can connect all your bank accounts, which is helpful. Sometimes if you buy something for your business outside of your bank account (e.g. you use cash or someone else buys it) then it takes longer to input that expense into your quickbooks

Pros: No more double entry when you run payroll through your existing QBO file!

Cons: This might not be the right solution for larger companies who have greater HR needs then just cutting a paycheck each pay period, though it is not difficult to set up employee deductions for things like health care, retirement plans, etc.

Overall: If you are already a QBO user and have a small to medium work force this is the your best bet. It works within your existing QBO file, so no need for double entry and tax filing is an easy to follow step-by-step process.

Pros: - Very complete: Quickbooks is the granddaddy of bookkeeping apps. If there is a feature anyone has ever needed in the history of humanity, it's here! - Very fast to use once you become reasonably expert.

Cons: - Greedy company. They reeeeally want your upgrade fees. When I upgraded my Mac OS, one, and only one, app quit running: Quickbooks. Which meant that my data was held hostage -- NO CHOICE but to upgrade my Quickbooks. - Can be pretty complex for non-bookkkeepers to use

Comments: I love quickbooks however, Quickbooks for MAC has a LOT to be desired!

Pros: I like the functionality of the Quickbooks product itself just not the MAC version! Quickbooks is a great product and it is easy to use. The report section is easily manipulated for whatever you may need a report on.

Cons: It doesn't work well with MAC and I have been using this product for 3 years now. They don't have an upgrade for this year but they upgraded the PC version. Their reports aren't consistent and what I mean by that is for example: I ran an aging AR summary and it listed invoices that are clearly paid; however, when I ran open invoices it didn't show on that report and that made my AR report over $ off. It often shuts down and kicks itself out for absolutely no reason and I am left to re-open the program several times a day.

Pros: Once you get moving with the program it is easy to input everything. Invoicing was easy, remembers customer's information. Making paid automatically sets up your bank deposit or GLs if needed. Most banks have an option for an import to this program and most bank's customer service line can help with the export/import process.

Cons: The initial set up is intensive. Bringing in historic data took a while. Wait until the end of a financial year to integrate.

Pros: I love that it is accessible online and that there's a wide variety of features that you can do such as: sending unlimited invoices, tracking expenses and revenues, pay bills, and transact in different currencies. This is especially helpful since I am working with clients from various markets and I never run into problems.

Cons: I'd say third party integrations should be improved -- sometimes, the system disconnects and I have to integrate it again, which is time consuming. I would say this is not ideal for enterprise companies though - mostly only for small businesses.

Pros: We us Quickbooks for payroll and taxes. Our CPA handles everything else. I only get to use a very small portion of Quickbooks - only to write checks for payroll and to vendors. So far, it's not as complicated to use as when I first started using the program.

Cons: It has way too many options for the small people who only need to do 1-3 tasks. Other than that, it's a solid solution.

Pros: It allows me to invoice customers relatively easily and gives records that I can give to my accountant at tax time.

Cons: Too many obstacles to customizing the program for my particular business. For instance, changing the information I put on the invoice or on the outgoing email message in a global way is impossible. Literally. It's simply not allowed. So changes must be made to each individual invoice and/or message. Insane. Also, I don't do online anything with Intuit (long story). My computer is standalone, it's not networked. Yet I have to have a password to even open up the damn program. Every. Single. Time.

Pros: Easy to use, even for people with not a lot of knowledge in accounting. It is easy to create invoices, send them and get paid by credit card with the app itself. You can pay your employees directly with the app. You can use it in french or english.

Cons: For Quebec companies, you have to manually create the tax code for Meals at 50%, it is not already in the app and it is not easy to do. Some options just work in the english version. The app is expensive when you want more options.

Pros: This software has helped our small business present ourselves more professionally when paying employees and contractors. It has streamlined our payment process, making it quicker and easier. I no longer have to write out physical checks or trying to rely on an online payment system which I fear may leak my employee's information.

Pros: QuickBooks has most of the functionality needed to perform general accounting tasks. You can easily create employees, tasks, classes and so on. Most of these entities have a number of fields that can be set and you can customize your QuickBooks implementation to match your business.

Cons: The user interface can be daunting at times. There are different areas to find the type of objects you are looking for (for example, some list items like classes are under one menu, and other things like tasks are displayed elsewhere) If I haven't been using QuickBooks for awhile at times I'm searching different areas to find what I need.

Pros: Was super simple to input all of the monthly expenses, and input the checks because I had to toggle back and forth from the online business bank account to Quickbooks

Comments: If you're looking for a program that can handle your business' accounting needs, QuickBooks is a pretty good solution to help you there. From being able to send a copy of your books to your accountant and a way to forecast your business into the next quarter or year (for those that know how to make the software work), it is a great tool

Pros: Ease of use once you know what you're doing

Cons: Learning curve to get up and running

Pros: I mean it gets the job done. There's nothing specifically negative about this other than I feel like it's an extraneous feature, but I always work with small businesses so maybe at a large company with a large number of employees this would be more useful.

Cons: I think Quickbooks itself is well designed enough that you can run payroll trough it without needing this extra feature (for small businesses).

Overall: Software works great but be sure you really need it.

Pros: I like how once I get a new employee set up in the system, payroll is easy each week. I just enter their hours, even OT hours, and QB payroll takes care of it.

Cons: It is not as easy as i would like to enter in a new employee. the sw could be more streamlined. Also, I had an issue one week where the sw had a glitch and didnt save my first enter of employee hours, then it ended up paying my employees twice.

Pros: I have been using it for about a 18 months and from my experience it is generally this is an ok program. Most things are accessible to you in the this program so it worked for some time.

Cons: The system crashes all the time for me and at one point I wasn't able to export or print any reports from this program. it is also a lot more slower so I had to go back to using it in Safari.

Comments: I would use this for a very small business that doesn't need a complicated accounting system.

Pros: Its definitely is appealing to beginners when it comes to the accounting/bookkeeping and has many features to help navigate the process.

Cons: Its very vague and doesn't necessarily appeal to a certain industry or trade. At times it doesn't synchronize with other softwares as you would like.

Pros: Easy to use, easy to set up and it integrated with a lot of other platforms. I've never had issues using QuickBooks.

Cons: There's a number of other competitors out there that seem to be gaining more of a market share and have good deals on.

I use it, but I hate it.

Pros: Most of the world is familiar with and has a way to tie-in to the program. For example, if you have a Mac and your accountant has a PC, you can transfer information into and out of the program.

Cons: The Mac interface is not user friendly and does not adhere to a lot of the normal Mac ways of doing things. For example, on the most basic level, you can't use the keyboard to select from some dialog boxes, so you have to take your hands off the keyboard. As I work in Quickbooks, I find that I get annoyed because things are more difficult to accomplish than they need to be.

If you use Quickbooks, this is a no brainer.

Pros: Payroll is easy to set up, and the representative that they assign to help you is knowledgeable and responsive. But FINALLY you can set permissions so that your Quickbooks users who manage invoicing and deposits can't look at payroll. That was really my only gripe, and they've fixed it. Yay!

Cons: After the aforementioned fix, nothing much to report as far as cons go. Pretty solid.

Pros: nothing really.

Cons: customer support. difficult to find a phone number for them. they require you to update the software every 2 to 3 years whether you need to or not, in order to continue with payroll. when you get ready to cancel, you had better call the EXACT DAY of your last payroll (which with closing a business around the holidays was difficult for me to do) or you WILL NOT get your full pro-rated refund as they refuse to back date the last day, even when they can look into your system and see when your last paycheck generated was.

Overall: see above comments

Comments: Overall, a really helpful part of our business's workflow.

Pros: Easy to see what financials are going in and out each month and to categorize them in the way most helpful to you. Reports are easy to run.

Cons: Linked credit cards will sometimes run wild and suddenly spawn charges from years ago that aren't especially helpful to your accounting. Definitely requires some supervision.

Pros: Quickbooks has done a great job so far of tracking my expenses and the mileage I drive for business. It makes it easy to identify expenses and mileage as being for either business or personal.

Cons: It can be tedious having to constantly go onto the app to identify whether mileage and expenses were business or personal, but that is the nature of tracking expenses.

Pros: I like that this software is specifically designed for Mac laptops. I have had a Mac for 7 years and sometimes find it difficult to find software that works just as well on a Mac as it does on Windows.

Cons: I don't think the software is particularly user-friendly, but they do a good job providing educational material for use.

Pros: Lots of features and syncs with other Intuit software programs (TurboTax, etc) Very detailed, so easy for expense tracking and bookkeeping

Cons: For the cost, I wish it was a bit more user friendly. I don't like having to spend so much money and then have to take courses and watch YouTube videos just to learn the functions. For the price, I expect convenience and ease of use

Pros: I like that they give accountants a free version to work with and practice before accepting clients. That was absolutely necessary for me when I first got started.

Cons: Their billing system is terrible. I personally have had issues with it and also I've had clients with major problems. Their merchant services caused big cash flow problems for one of my clients and was completely unfair to the user.

Overall: It's decent, but there are better platforms out there for small businesses. I prefer Xero.

Pros: Great at keeping records so you look at previous weeks if needed. If using Direct Deposit goes quick smooth with no issues. Easy to process W2, 1099 and other end of the year paperwork. Also easy to do all the required IRS forms throughout the year.

Cons: IF you have to call customer support because it is a Intuit QB company plan on waiting. Sometimes if might only be a 2 minute fix, yet you have to wait on the phone for an hour. Does seem to have a lot of updates, but the updates do keep things right.

Overall: Intuit needs a better support staff. Sometimes hard to understand and waiting isn't the best when you need to get other things done for your job.

Comments: Quickbooks is a solid performer in the realm of financial management. It offers a number of integrations, personalizations and customer support. However I recognize that if you are dealing with more than one employee (which is not my situation) that this probably is not your best choice. Be aware that Quickbooks online is very different than the Quickbooks software. For me, it suits my needs of tracking my business expenses in private practice, primarily for tax purposes. It works similarly to Mint, and allows you to monitor your cashflow, forecast your monthly or yearly income, and generate some basic report. I would imagine doing anything more complicated (business sales in multiple currencies, using Quickbooks as a customer-facing sales portal, collaborating with other employees or accountants) may be a little cumbersome. I also notice some lag when I am working with a number of transactions at once.

Pros: - affordable - easy to use - secure

Cons: - lag or crashing on bulk edits - often misreads or misfiles transactions

Comments: QB for Mac review

Pros: I like its multifunction capabilities and its ability to do so many different things. I like that it can keep track of employee time clock punches and can automatically generate otherwise complicated tasks.

Cons: It's not very easy to be able to switch back and forth from a PC to a Mac. The Mac product seems to have fewer support options than the original PC version that I also have used.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are primarily a PC user then stick with the PC version. Because the MAC version won't integrate with the POS if you use that software for your retail business.

Pros: The product has good integration across billing/invoicing/payroll.

Cons: Customer service is unable/unwilling to meet customer needs. I had an issue with my payroll service. I was being double billed at the annual rate and the monthly rate in error. I tried for months to get this corrected and all I got was frustrated.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you can find another program that meets your needs, choose it. I looked at Sage, Freshbooks, and Zero. At the time, none offered integrated job costing and payroll in Massachusetts, features that we couldn't live without.
