Our company is small, so for the time being, we still use paper for the checks and pay stubs. The great thing is that we are in the process of switching everything to being digital. Overall, this software is great. The software is secure, and the set up is straightforward. I can clearly see how much money is going out weekly. Pros We love how simple it is. This was the first payroll app I've ever used and I didn't have any trouble picking it up. It also made it easy to get my employees setup and paid. Cons On occasion we do run into a problem where the taxes are not being taken out. From invoicing and tracking expenses to preparing for tax time, it streamlines many of the tasks that used to take hours. While the pricing can increase with add-ons, the time saved and overall functionality make it a worthwhile investment for growing businesses Pros Create and send professional invoices Accept online payments (credit card, ACH, etc.) Set up automatic reminders and recurring invoices Cons The way that everything costs extra and really starts to add up. For example: features like Payroll, Time Tracking, and Inventory Management are not included in base plans. Annual price increases — Intuit often raises subscription prices, especially for QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop. Multiple users = higher cost — Want to add more than one team member? That’s often an extra fee. Support access is tiered — Priority customer support is only included in higher-priced plans. We had an employee to put the wrong bank info in for direct deposit and QBP is not quick to correct the debit from my account. I had to write a check and now i have 2 debited payrolls for the employee, 7 days later no refund showing yet despite assurance it will refund soon. I will follow up. Pros Easy to view employees, their hours, set job expectations, easy to setup employees when hired on. Easy to fix issues if they arise. Cons The cost is rising and we barely need all the services provided. We regularly have employees who need to access their pas pay stubs and print them out for governmental assisstance, and that is very simple to do as well. Every time I have had to call customer service for help, I always received kind and detailed instruction to my problem. I also really like that they offer a call back option rather than having to sit on hold for a long time. Pros Quick books payroll is efficient and intuitive! It integrates well with QuickBooks Time/T-Sheet, Intuit for time sheets. Cons I wish special alerts were sent directly to users when there are upcoing bank holidays that will impact a normal paycheck run. QuickBooks Payroll allowed me to onboard new contractors while being able to keep track of my current contractors. As a business owner paying bills and contractors (staff) is my top priority and this software checked all the boxes. Pros Long-standing company with a reputable name, with lots of integration options for other applications. Many different features applicable to lots of areas of running a business. Cons Sometimes their age can be a curse - parts can be clunky and have long-term issues that sometimes have you lost in a sea of numbers among QB customers. Their AI-sorting is also a little buggy. Cons The cost is a little high. I didn’t like having to pay extra at first but because it takes away the burden of getting the payments out in a timely manner, I have found it worth the cost. We used QuickBooks payroll for over 10 years but eventually the software glitches made us look for a new system. It works well for very small businesses with a very limited number of employees. Pros It was easy to track and update payroll. The automatic payroll updates with tax tables were very helpful. The liability payments and tax fililngs were very simple. Cons It was slow to process payroll, and it often had glitches. We had to contact Quickbooks support on a regular basis who often had us do unconventional workarounds for known system errors until they could have a software update released.
