" December 19, 2025 5.0 I have used QuickBooks for over 30 years and have always had a great experience. Changes they have made have increased the usability of the program and the interfaces with my timeclock has made it so much better. Pros QuickBooks is very easy to learn and understand. The program has progressively gotten better over the past number of years, making it interface with time clocks and increasing the ease of making tax payments a breeze. Our accountant also likes it as it makes his job easier. Cons It is on the higher end of the cost for this type of program. Due to it's complexity, a new user today may have more difficulty in learning the system. But once you learn it, it is a great addition to your office. Review Source RJ Rhonda J. I recommend this to everyone. Pros Quick book payroll makes it ease for me to do direct deposits. The cost for quick books is worth it to me. Pros QBO Payroll is easy to integrate for small business owners - sometimes too easy. It's nice to have everything in one place. Cons QuickBooks now takes tax deposits 6 weeks ahead of due date for taxes based on recently client experience. They hold this money in a separate account (earning interest for their pockets - not shared with our clients). My client has had to turn of automatic payroll features because he can't afford to give Intuit his money for 6 weeks at a time. The larger our company became we had to transition to something more substantial to handle Out of state Payrolls and Certified Payrolls. But for smaller companies - Works just fine. Pros Very easy to use. Easy to make changes. User friendly for employees entering their time. Great starter app. Cons Did not do multi-state payroll. Its ease of use and customization lightens the load of an often overworked employer. As an employee, it was a fine system to use to log hours and track time. Pros I’ve had the pleasure of utilizing QB Payroll from the employer standpoint as well as employee. The range of customization as an employer is very beneficial. This is especially true where taxes are concerned. QB Payroll has options for setting up state and federal and federal taxes, as well as PTO, and things like wage garnishment. From the employee standpoint, the ease of use was undeniable. The ability to view your weekly schedule was a plus as well. Cons From the employer perspective, payroll submission could get especially tricky during holidays. Depending on which plan you pay for depends on when you need payroll submitted. Also makes payroll tax payments for you! Cons Does not keep track of changes. For instance when someone gets a new RoP or added benefit, I cannot go back and look up their previous info easily. I utilize the download option so I can keep using QuickBooks Desktop. Pros We have been using QuickBooks Online Payroll for over 9 years at this point. It is simplistic and easy to use. They are consistently adding new features and options that come with no additional cost. They make it easy to see what taxes will be taken out and have great customer support. They utilize a system that keeps the employee informed where they can easily get pay stubs. They are quick to fix any bugs or issues. Cons I don't have anything I dislike. Everything stays clean in the file, and it saves me time. It’s not the cheapest option, but the integration and ease of use make it worth it for me. Pros I like that it’s already inside QuickBooks, so I don’t have to deal with extra syncing or posting journal entries. The setup is simple, and it’s easy to set up different pay types for different clients. Workforce is also a plus - clients’ employees can log in and get their own paystubs and info without me being the middle person. Cons It does cost more than some other payroll options. QuickBooks Payroll allowed me to onboard new contractors while being able to keep track of my current contractors. It was easy to set up banking information from my institution and also for contractors who did direct deposit. Cons QuickBooks is extremely efficient. We regularly have employees who need to access their pas pay stubs and print them out for governmental assisstance, and that is very simple to do as well. Every time I have had to call customer service for help, I always received kind and detailed instruction to my problem. I also really like that they offer a call back option rather than having to sit on hold for a long time. Pros Quick books payroll is efficient and intuitive! It integrates well with QuickBooks Time/T-Sheet, Intuit for time sheets. Cons I wish special alerts were sent directly to users when there are upcoing bank holidays that will impact a normal paycheck run. I love the reports very easy to understand. Employee profiles are easy to setup, you can add deductions for garnishments, advances, set a limit and the system will stop deducting when that limit has hit. Do not like the $5.00 direct deposit that is charged for each employee that does direct deposit they should rethink this other programs are much less. Great program but they are going to hurt themselves with this fee. Pros very user friendly easy to use program for payroll. Cons the $5.00 direct deposit fee that other program charge much less. Cons Sometimes their age can be a curse - parts can be clunky and have long-term issues that sometimes have you lost in a sea of numbers among QB customers. Their AI-sorting is also a little buggy. I haven't incurred any real issues with the software. I've had to call support just a few times with minor questions or concerns but was always met with a resolution. Pros I love having payroll within the accounting system so all the data flows so seamlessly. I'm also a big fan of QuickBooks Payroll autofiling and autopaying the payroll taxes. This takes a huge burden off the small business staff. Cons The biggest con is the cost. For my client's with a large headcount, it makes it too expensive to use QuickBooks Payroll. January 31, 2026 5.0 I used to handle payroll by myself but once I added it to our Quickbooks account it really took a lot of pressure off me to generate payroll in a timely manner. The automated feature adds value for me. Pros QuicjBooks Payroll handles all the payroll plus deductions taken each month. I also can schedule it so that it is automatic each month. Cons The cost is a little high. I didn’t like having to pay extra at first but because it takes away the burden of getting the payments out in a timely manner, I have found it worth the cost.
