Our company is small, so for the time being, we still use paper for the checks and pay stubs. The great thing is that we are in the process of switching everything to being digital. Overall, this software is great. The software is secure, and the set up is straightforward. I can clearly see how much money is going out weekly. Pros We love how simple it is. This was the first payroll app I've ever used and I didn't have any trouble picking it up. It also made it easy to get my employees setup and paid. Cons On occasion we do run into a problem where the taxes are not being taken out. From invoicing and tracking expenses to preparing for tax time, it streamlines many of the tasks that used to take hours. While the pricing can increase with add-ons, the time saved and overall functionality make it a worthwhile investment for growing businesses Pros Create and send professional invoices Accept online payments (credit card, ACH, etc.) Set up automatic reminders and recurring invoices Cons The way that everything costs extra and really starts to add up. For example: features like Payroll, Time Tracking, and Inventory Management are not included in base plans. Annual price increases — Intuit often raises subscription prices, especially for QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop. Multiple users = higher cost — Want to add more than one team member? Its a good payroll processing software and easy to use and learn. Pros The customer support is very helpful and awesome. They always solve an issue. It is very secure and a reliable software. Pay stubs are readily available online to access. Payroll processing is very user friendly. Very few bugs and issues are encountered during payroll processing. It is a good software for value of money and the quality you get in using this software. You will have peace of mind. Highly recommended. Cons Sometimes there are updates and it may interfere with payroll processing. But these are easy fixes. And sometimes just refreshing the software solves the issues. Financial Controller Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "QuickBooks Payroll Should Have Their License Revoked " November 19, 2024 1.0 We have been using QuickBooks online payroll for almost 3 years now. In July of this year, we discovered issues with accrual calculations and syncing errors. Not only has this issue not been fixed 4 months later, but we have now discovered system calculations have been incorrect for some time, shorting our employees of vacation earnings. While their engineers have been working on a fix, they managed to delete our payroll data, which they have not been able to recover. In over 20 years in the financial industry, I have never experienced or heard of anything like this. The most alarming part is that they show little concern or urgency in correcting this issue. They should not be able to sell or operate a malfunctioning financial system and deserve to have their business license revoked. Not only will we be moving to a new system asap, but we will also be reporting them to the Canadian Financial Consumer Agency. Considering QuickBooks is one of the largest accounting systems in the world, it is shocking they can operate such a flawed system. STAY AWAY!!!! Pros Absolutely nothing! This system and their constant updates is full or errors. Cons Everything! We have uncovered a disaster issue noted in detail below. I no longer use this because I no longer need to manage my own payroll, however because of how simple the platform was in general, and for headline figures, I would use it again. Pros Typically it is easier to use than other market leaders. Once you are familiar with the platform it is easy to find what you need, the inclusion of a bookmarking/favourites feature helps with this also. Cons On some aspects of Payroll, it seemed to over complicate the process, such as whenever you made changes to an employee, the process could be simplified to be more streamline and also less jargon and more helpful tips and text for functions relating to payroll specifically such as NI rates etc. Switched from [Xero](https://www.capterra.com/p/120109/Xero/) Xero didn't offer the features at the time and was really over complicated. Which for mine is thankfull. Pros It is easy to do your own bookkeeping. It is easy to keep up with receipts, vendors, income etc. Cons It is not easily programmed with all software's compatibility. Its ease of use and customization lightens the load of an often overworked employer. As an employee, it was a fine system to use to log hours and track time. Pros I’ve had the pleasure of utilizing QB Payroll from the employer standpoint as well as employee. The range of customization as an employer is very beneficial. This is especially true where taxes are concerned. QB Payroll has options for setting up state and federal and federal taxes, as well as PTO, and things like wage garnishment. From the employee standpoint, the ease of use was undeniable. The ability to view your weekly schedule was a plus as well. Cons From the employer perspective, payroll submission could get especially tricky during holidays. Depending on which plan you pay for depends on when you need payroll submitted. Everything stays clean in the file, and it saves me time. It’s not the cheapest option, but the integration and ease of use make it worth it for me. Pros I like that it’s already inside QuickBooks, so I don’t have to deal with extra syncing or posting journal entries. The setup is simple, and it’s easy to set up different pay types for different clients. Workforce is also a plus - clients’ employees can log in and get their own paystubs and info without me being the middle person. Cons It does cost more than some other payroll options. I love the reports very easy to understand. Employee profiles are easy to setup, you can add deductions for garnishments, advances, set a limit and the system will stop deducting when that limit has hit. Do not like the $5.00 direct deposit that is charged for each employee that does direct deposit they should rethink this other programs are much less. Great program but they are going to hurt themselves with this fee. Pros very user friendly easy to use program for payroll. Cons the $5.00 direct deposit fee that other program charge much less. I know it was a nightmare because my employers billing department has to eventually switch payroll companies and we got physical checks for about 2 months during the transition. Pros I used to be on a Quickbooks Payroll by an employer and what I liked the most was that I was able to quickly access and view my pay stabs a couple days prior to actual pay day so I was able to achieve money management with easy projection. Cons What I liked least about QuickBooks was bugs and issues that the billing department encountered with processing bi-weekly pay roll, it was even worse with cut-off times, deadlines and holidays. This is an old fashion way of performing payroll. Through QuickBooks desktop payroll we were able to schedule our liability payments as well. I like that you would be able to see everything in one place, but I would not be able to be sure that it went through. Cons I don't like the fact that is very rigid, and that is not easy to change payroll from direct deposit to check. Sometimes my clients would be hard-pressed for payroll that period. Changes they have made have increased the usability of the program and the interfaces with my timeclock has made it so much better. Pros QuickBooks is very easy to learn and understand. The program has progressively gotten better over the past number of years, making it interface with time clocks and increasing the ease of making tax payments a breeze. Our accountant also likes it as it makes his job easier. Cons It is on the higher end of the cost for this type of program. Due to it's complexity, a new user today may have more difficulty in learning the system. But once you learn it, it is a great addition to your office.
