I would highly recommend it to small to medium-sized businesses. Pros Quickbooks is one of the best tools I've used for accounting, this is due to its very light platform and intuitive UI for you to navigate through and execute. Taking into consideration the fact that you need to have an accounting background, that doesn't take away the fact that this is an easy-to-use tool. Among my favorite features the one that I can point out the most, is the Vendo/Bills feature, which allows you to add all bill of the period into every vendor's account for you to generate you AP and Aging reports. Cons Among the cons, you could find this software to not be easy to break into, even tho it has a very light UI, you are required to have an accounting background for you to fully exploit this tool's full capabilities. Another thing you could find as a little bit of an issue, it the way it's mobile app works, as for it is not at full development quite yet, meaning you will find yourself capped on the thing you could do with the reporting features and journal entries. Pros I like having access to all my invoices and being able to update from my mobile device. When I work on location, I can send my client an invoice while I am standing with them. This speeds up getting paid for our work. It is nice to be able to get paid sooner than later. Cons There are not many features that I don't like. Quickbooks delivers! I use the free invoicing as well that comes along with it and that is one of the best features as well. I think the best part mobile app. It makes taking pictures of my receipts easy. I also enjoy that it reminds me of quarterly tax payments to the state. Cons The only thing that I have trouble with is the length of time that the invoices take to move to your bank account, it can take about 7-10 days. Additionally, the auto mileage isn't for me. We've used Turbotax for a while, and Quickbooks has the same "virtual assistant" helping guide you through categorizing and tracking business income and expenses and can even learn which transactions are business related over time to automatically do the tracking/categorization. Very pleased. Pros I love the integration with TurboTax. As a first time business owner/self-employed, I am confident that I will not owe a huge tax bill at the end of the year. Furthermore, my business expenses and income can be imported to TurboTax quickly to do my quarterly taxes. I can't imagine having to track/input all of that data manually, especially as my business is growing. Cons The bank account connections are at times inconsistent, but this could also be attributed to my specific financial institutions, so not going to ding QB for this in my overall rating. It is worth mentioning that some banks require frequent re-authorization, which to me means that between the two companies, they are concerned with securing my financial data, which I am thankful for. Pros Many features available making it an integral part of our day to day operations. Processing payroll is easy and tax accrual function and e-file makes it so simple and easy to match to federal and state calculations. Reporting features are very good. We have 100’s of customers and vendors and the tracking of availability of transactions is superb. We also use their remote hosting service for work from home employees and have never had an issue with maintaining connections and to the minute updated information. Cons The only things I could recommend for improvement is the ability to have detailed customizable reporting for employee and payroll functions. Customer service is iffy-most are nice but some are not very knowledgeable and it can take quite a long time to resolve what seems to be a simple issue. Currently found that the annual renewal fee charged was $500 more than what was quoted by two of their reps so am looking at having to attempt to get a refund for the overcharge. I recommend not hesitating and calling a second time to speak with another agent if the one you speak with does not seem to get you anywhere fast enough. Pros This software easily integrates with other very helpful softwares like Hubdoc.com and Bill.com (which I use) or other receipt management softwares and phone apps which makes data entry a lot easier and faster. Cons It still has a few bugs that don't get fixed. It's like the Advanced Search shortcut does not work and I still have to click in two different locations to get to the advanced search box. Director SEO Services Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Quick Books Premier Edition 2016 Desktop -Good Except Multicurrency is Terrible" June 21, 2018 5.0 Pros This has a great user interface, as a qualified accountant, I can say it's definitely not traditional however it is functional and it has quite a lot of functionality for this price point. For non-accountants this is a good system in so far as it is user friendly. An amazing feature is that transactions can be edited or even deleted at least from the users perspective - that alone is one of the major reasons that I recommend this software ( the audit log maintains a complete record of the entries) Other good points, cost centres, document storage, easy account management, multi company capable, lots of configuration options. Cons However this system has some flaws, and one very serious one which i will mention first. Multicurrency capability is a joke, I would say no it's not because its so labor intensive to use it you might as well convert all your currency outside the system and just post in your home currency - that itself is a nightmare and you can expect your auditor to hate on you with a bigger bill and whining but the option of using the currency features is not great either. I am in recovery from this right now so happily have forgotten some of the pain points, here are a few: Entering exchange rates - tedious and labor intensive audit trail for currency transactions - as above Propensity to make recording errors due to the systems short comings pretty high Quality of reporting for multicurrency - terrible, really terrible! ( the nominal ledger is available in the home currency only - if you have a lot of transactions and some reconciliations to do that is bad news. Some smaller issues, reporting is functional /ugly although it's robust its nott very customizable either expect to do formatting in excel . It has some really weird idiosyncrasies, for example under some circumstances to get the right fx rate on a transaction automatically i need to put the wrong date and then change it to the right date. However you have a perpetual licence for pretty powerful and user friendly software. Most CPA’s use this software so it’s an easy way for them to access our information. It has not been an easy software to learn but it’s worth it once you do. Pros Once you tailor it to your business and get familiar with the features it can be helpful and stress free. Knowing I’m staying in compliance puts me at ease as well as having one spot I can go to to access all my info. Cons It is not user friendly. You can’t just purchase the software and try and “figure it out” on your own. I had to have training from my CPA and it has taken years to fully feel comfortable with it....and I STILL have questions! Pros I like the desktop app vs. cloud accounting apps. Having control of my data and the ease of use of a desktop application for a complicated application makes it my preferred choice. Generally the application works well. Cons The forced upgrades, which are not cheap, are annoying. They dropped the ability to email invoices after two years, unless you upgraded. To continue using the option to accept electronic payments, which they charge extra for, you have to upgrade every couple years. That's like paying twice for the same service. Syncing payments received through merchant services is hit or miss. There's been no major improvements for the upgrade cost, and it's taken some backward steps. The latest version increased the font size of application, which makes it so you can't see as much information, without giving you the option to customize it. In the early years (pre-'99) I used to be able to have multiple company files open (i.e. my business file and my personal file), which was removed in QuickBooks 99 (I think). Despite pleas from many people, that functionality has not returned in the last 18+ years of upgrades. The three times I've called for technical support were completely worthless. Pros QuickBooks is very user friendly because it has established a typical "Chart of Accounts" for an industry, for example, a construction company has typical accounts which would be different from those used in a non-profit organization, such as a Church, a company servicing the homeless, etc. What I like about QB is that if you make a mistake in coding a transaction, it is easy to correct. Cons What I liked least is that Intuit, the software maker, is driving users more and more to their on-line software where a service provider to several companies, like myself, winds up paying more for the software. Quickbooks is the best doctor you can buy to monitor it. Pros I started my company 30 years ago using Quicken for bookkeeping and before Intuit offered Quickbooks. My company grew and Intuit offered Quickbooks. We converted to it and never regretted it. The time saving, ease of managing customer invoicing, efficient vendor payments, and access for our bookkeeper and CPA make it the best. Combined with full payroll services, where Intuit manages all associated taxes make it even better. Finally, customer support is extraordinarily good, particularly for payroll. Cons While Quickbooks is for non-accountants, there is a learning curve. Nonetheless, it is well worth the investment, given the importance of what it does for your business. We are coming into an age where many executives want to review their financials wherever they are and QuickBooks Online does offer that feature. Pros Over the last year, I started using QuickBooks Online vs. QuickBooks desktop. I really like the fact that the online version is remote meaning you can access it regardless if you are in the office or not. I like QuickBooks because it is a rather low cost software that can enable a business to see what their income and expenses are without necessarily having an accounting background. I recommend QuickBooks to many of my clients for this reason. Cons I have used the QuickBooks desktop version for years and have recently started using QuickBooks Online the last few months. Personally, I feel that their are a few minor things that I am getting use to. For example, I am a shortcuts person and when entering in a journal entry I'm use to the shortcut Ctrl-Delete to delete a row if there are too many. I have not found that to work in the QuickBooks Online version. I also liked how with QuickBooks Desktop if you went to the edit button when doing a transaction, it would list the different shortcuts you could use. I found this to be easier. With the QuickBooks Online version, I was able to find some shortcuts via the Help option which to me can be time consuming to have to search for. I also have found that in the beginning I had to use the Help option quite a bit just to locate some of the reports I am use to using. I'vwe found that the QuickBooks Desktop version to me is a tad bit more user friendly and helps with time management because a lot of things aren't hidden. Review Source ELDHOSE K. Very ease to use and cost affordable. Invoice management has made much easier by using this product also the payment tracking is done. The much appreciated functionality is to remind the clients about the payment and track them. I really love this software, our tax filing has made much easier. With the new GST came they rolled this too in a fast manner. In general this is a must software for small companies and tries to manage the invoices in an easier manner. Their cloud management helps to retrieve the invoice anywhere. In general this is a great product which needs some more features. Cons The payment done by the Clients can be tracked but cannot know the mode of their payment, this really affects our profit. We need to know the mode of payment and needs to block specific cards since they might have high commission with the bank. Should you be using the Merchant Services, you can access a portal with this info at merchantcenter.intuit.com or by following the steps at community.intuit.com/articles/1599996. There are some issues where it doesn't work the way you would think because certain features are not user friendly. Pros We love the ease of use for our company. We use this for accounts payable/receivable/payroll etc. It provides all the reports that we need as well. Cons If we do have an issue we have to go through the QuickBooks help line. It's unfortunate but most of the time, I have difficulties understanding the various accents. I'm hard of hearing and that just makes it worse. Ever since my encounter with customer service, I'm less than pleased with them. Pros The layouts and easy of the program is awesome! I use quickbooks online for 3 different companies. Cons The customer service is AWFUL! Takes forever for them to answer the phone. No one on the customer service team is on the same page about promotions Intuit is running. Half of the time they don't know anything about them. I referred a friend which would had given us both a gift card and a discount through the referral program. Still nothing. It works fine for day-to-day transactions such as A/R, A/P, and data entry, but it's not the best for things like forecasting and financial reporting. Pros QuickBooks provides a good value for the money, which is especially helpful in small businesses. Cons After working in complex and customized ERP systems, QuickBooks feels a little archaic in comparison.
