I've only contacted the support team once and they were very helpful. Their documentation is excellent and their service works as expected. Pros We needed a place to host our recorded webinars and training, along with many of our DVDs converted to a digital format. Top priorities were: 1) easy of use 2) difficult for people to download/pirate 3) stats for the # of plays, engagement and location of the viewers 4) affordable. SproutVideo fit all of these requirements Cons I can't think of anything we dislike. We've used the service for many years and have a "legacy" plan that no longer exists. It falls somewhere in between the current Seed and Sprout plans. If I were signing up today, I'd definitely need to reassess the best plan. I wish SproutVideo could provide more pricing options to allow slightly cheaper alternatives, to choose, especially when usage is low for a particular season. Pros I love how there are so many options to customize how my clients will view the videos. The expiry dates work well and it gives me good control over who, when and how I want to show individual users. Cons I'm not sure how secure it is when it comes to people potentially replicating videos while streaming them on their monitor. (screen capturing). Other platforms seemed too distracted on trying to be a consumer product vs a platform for businesses. Sprout's simple API, great video player with great javascript support, great video playback performance, and strong security options is why we went all in with them. Cons I would like for them to support the tus.io upload protocol to make big video uploads on mobile devices much more dependable. Also, if they could do watch-once to encode functionality for faster viewing of a video after upload or even a guaranteed thumbnail instantly after upload, that would really help us. October 22, 2020 2.0 We use Sproutvideo as a private platform to display our marketing video content, however upon realizing the issues with mobile wordpress display we attempted to delete account. Only to enter into this odd cancelation trial. Pros Easy to set up, and it has clean presentation. Not difficult to get up and running with the interface that sprout provides. Pretty well straight forward with video uploads and a few code snippets to share your videos. Cons The display is not as simple as it appears. Of course the embed, share, etc. code/url will generate quite easily for sharing. The problem comes when you realize that many wordpress sites will not display on mobile without digging into the source code of your site, not for a beginner. Then the absolute worst is when you attempt to cancel subscription. You can easily assume you have completed the process....which seems like a 10 minute lecture & quiz; only to be hit with your payment the following month. Turns out the very last question in what seems like a marathon must be completed. It does what we need it to do as far as solution for our video hosting. The user management (Team Member) is great and we do not have to worry about having to give out information to the main account. Pros We have been using Sprout within our company for a while and it is a great resource for hosting videos. Once posted, they can easily be embedded into the website for everyone else to consume. Ability to provide password locked video content is also really helpful in certain exception use cases. Cons No Cons come to mind that I can currently think of. The platform is easy to use. It's not an everyday need for us, but for years we've used them and they perform every time. It's great to have confidence in an important area of production for us. Pros PS/A has been producing for 48 years and we do a variety of production services. Our need for a secure server for our clients is random and sporadic, but when the need is there, whether it's for Sweet Adelines Int'l or HEAD Sports, it has to work and perform for their satisfaction. SproutVideo has never failed to provide a great platform for our video projects with its log in options and playback quality. Whenever we we need a resource for secure access.... they will be the ones we turn to for our clients. One of the major reasons we use SproutVideo is their level of customer service. Rep or others are always there with quick answers and support to get us through the process. A++ on customer service. Cons At times there are so many options that it's a bit confusing BUT... it's probably due to the fact we use this so intermittently that knowledge of the system gets lost in the time between uses. None of them are this good, or this customer-centric. I have been burned by bad updates, player changes and fraudulent account billing practices. I have even been taken completely offline by other vendors...multiple times. Ouch! Sprout has done none of these things...they are the opposite, they are solid support, timely and consistent upgrades that MAKE SENSE! I have used them for years, Sprout has been great to work with! Pros I really enjoy the customer service aspect to a video CDN service. The service is very predictable and easy to use and comes with most of the bells and whistles you could want. As with any service, you will run into a point where something will fail to work correctly. This is where chat-window support is awesome. The developers actually care and respond with helpful ideas and even code snippets to get you through an unexpected rough patch. 10 times better than JW Player! Cons The only one thing I do not like...and this is a picky thing on my part. If you want to "rewind" your videos to the beginning when you are done, you need to use a small script. Support provided me with a code sample that worked and everything was groovy. While this was fine, I feel like it should be a check box option. Review Source GB Garth B. Pros Ease of implementation. Having been kicked off of Vimeo for daring to use my God given rights of freedom of speech, and having been a customer of theirs for over a decade I was suddenly removed. SproutVideo has never dared censor me for having opinions opposed to the mainstream. Cons Interface could use a little aesthetic contrast. Looks good but would be nice to have a light/dark mode to help with viewing the tools. We email gate it so we know the client has viewed the video. The analytics tell us which parts of the video the client has watched more than one time. We can check the download analytics to see if the client downloaded it. Great software! Pros We create hand drawn videos for the safety, training and educational sector, worldwide. We use SproutVideo so clients can review their draft video and then download the final video. Super easy, super fast. But best of all is SproutVideo's customer service, it's #1! Cons Previously you couldn't group videos in folders, only with tags. We submitted a feature request, not sure who else did, and last year SproutVideo released folders! Whenever I have had questions or concerns about our account, we have received a prompt response from the company and our issues are always quickly resolved. They are also very helpful in answering questions. Pros It is very easy to track and monitor views of each video. The analytics provided are very helpful and include information such as viewer engagement, location of views, device types, domains used, etc. I also really like that you can set up profiles for viewers and give them limited access to certain videos. You can even control if they are able to download the video. Cons The only draw back is the 10 GB max file size for video uploads. We have a few videos that run upwards of 6 hours long.
