Teacher Primary/Secondary Education Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Great way to keep track of grades" January 21, 2023 5.0 Overall, I enjoy PowerSchool and use it with easy daily in my classroom. Pros PowerSchool is easy to use and overall very user-friendly. It is easy to input grades and export data. I like using PowerSchool. Cons Some information is not easily accessible unless you are an administrator. Some of the older teachers struggle with using the technology. Review Source CG Charisa G. Substitute Teacher Education Management Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "PowerSchool for Substitute Teacher" April 1, 2019 5.0 I have found PowerSchool very easy to use as a substitute teacher. Even when I sub for multiple teachers in one day, I can easily log in with my substitute login details to different teachers' classrooms. It has made it much easier for me to remember student names, as the ID pictures of students are paired with their names, and I can also review teacher-made seating charts on PowerSchool. I have found this attendance software much easier than the paper systems used by other school districts I have worked for. Pros I am a substitute teacher for a charter school that encompasses three schools: elementary, middle, and high school. PowerSchool's login page for me makes it very easy to switch between the schools, as I can log into all three schools from the same login page. Most of my work on powerschool is attendance, so I don't use all administrative features of the site, but as a substitute, I have my own login page that gives me access to class rosters for the specific teachers I'm subbing. This makes attendance easier and gives me access to student ID photos so I don't have to struggle with students names. Cons As a sub, I don't have access to the grades in powerschool, so i only have partial access to the site. However, I don't need that access, as I am not responsible for students grades. My access is appropriate to my position. I do like how comprehensive it seems to be but would love to be able to remove/hide some items I never use. Pros This software does everything you need once you get a hang of where everything is. I love how we can use the Swiftk12 to send messages to parents. Cons There are a lot of places to look for what you are searching for. Some items do not seem to be placed in logical locations. Thankfully we have a great division person who has created how-to documents. Pros Our schools have been using this SIS since 2008. PowerSchool is very intuitive and easy to learn. I provide tech support to our school office and teacher users. The parents and students also have accounts to log in and verify grades, attendance, school bulletin messages and more. Updates and edits made by teachers and office staff are in Real Time so the data is always up to date. Cons PowerSchool university is expensive training. It is very good training though. I use it daily and have few issues. I would like to see the reports function easier to use, and also expand student fields. I feel it is comparable to other student information software available. Pros There are several functions of PS that I have found to be really great. The ease of use for state reporting is a huge plus. Importing and exporting information is simple and fast, and the new updates such as the multi-select feature, contacts, and student alerts have made organizing information even easier. Cons Creating custom reports is difficult. It takes a great deal of skill and time to put together an object report. Customer support is also very inconsistent and can be frustrating. Some of the people working at the help desk have very limited knowledge of the software, and issues that come up can take weeks to resolve. Review Source SM Stacey M. Educator Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Love this Program!" July 21, 2020 5.0 Overall, this system is quick, easy, and very well set up. I would recommend Powerschool to anyone to use for special education tracking and documentation. Pros PowerSchool is super helpful for special education legal documents. It contains documents for IEPs, evaluations, invitations, MDRs, etc. All drop down menu friendly. It also tracks the dates and timelines for special education students. There are also sections for parent communication, service capture, etc. Cons I wish so badly there were 504 forms within Power School. Having all special education and 504 forms in one place would be helpful. I also don't like that only one person can be working in the page at one time. With multiple providers, this gets hectic when trying to meet timelines together. There can be a lag in the system for when someone gets out of the document too keeping the page locked. It allows me to quickly look at schedules and demographics to find important information. Cons As a teacher, I would like to provide section nicknames to make it easier to find the section I am looking for. Teacher Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Decent All-in-One" July 15, 2019 4.0 I have been using it for five or more years. It has definitely changed some in that time, which has required some adjustment. Overall, it is a great program for putting a lot of information into the same area rather than having several programs to do different aspects of the teaching job. It is fairly easy to use most of the time, but definitely requires some detailed training or a lot of playing if you have never used it before. Pros I like that I can take attendance, grade, create data sheets, and more all in the same program. It makes it so that we don't have to learn several programs and try to manually combine our information. Cons Sometimes it isn't clear where you need to go in order to change or find certain items. It took some playing to find out where to go for things like weighing grades or finding the grades of students who dropped or switched classes. Review Source Caitlin H. Pros It is a great database to store and pull data. In an educational setting it is imperative for everything to be in one place and powerschool makes that simple. This software enables the user to provide information about individual students, record attendance and behavioral issues and record grades simply and easily. Pros This platform allows you to take attendance, make special notations and record grades all using the same program. Cons The software can be a little temperamental. Assignments can be made and copied across courses. The grade book has multiple views to facilitate grading including assignment view, spreadsheet view, or Categories view. Grades can also be viewed by student as well. There is also a progress monitoring tool and can run various reports based on variety of inputs. Overall, PowerSchool more than covers the basics needed within a classroom and contains many advanced options for experienced users. Cons Without direct assistance, learning the features that a school district requires can be daunting. PowerSchool has many help options, but sometimes that are not the best learning tool when trying to learn a brand new system. Older teachers who relied on a paper grading system may struggle switching to a complex digital system such as PowerSchool. Review Source JF Jenna F. HR Assistant Machinery Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Keeps you up to date almost instantly with your child's progress in school" March 12, 2021 5.0 Before PowerSchool, I struggled to know what was going on in my daughter's classes and by the time I received a progress report, it was too late to fix grades or errors or intervene before it went too far. Now, I have almost real-time updates and it has really helped me keep her on track in school. Pros I love that the app will tell me as soon as she is marked tardy or absent and anytime her class grade changes. I can look back and look up what grade she receives on any assignment and I can obtain each of her teacher's contact info right there in the app. It also tracks her school lunch account balance so I know when I need to re-fund it. Cons It would be great if they would integrate a way to load the school lunch account through the app but maybe that's in the works. Review Source RR Richard R. I think this should be a requirement for all school districts since the parents will always know what's going on. You even get notifications if the kids are marked absent. I absolutely love this program. Pros Powerschool is am amazing product. I love how you can keep track of the kid's grades in real time and how it shows you their upcoming assignments. The software is so great that our school district stopped using paper report cards and now use Powerschool. Cons The only complaint that I have is really more of a suggestion than a complaint. I wish they had a system integrated with school lunches where you can use Powerschool to reload the kid's lunch account. This would eliminate having to use two apps. Review Source KK Kathryn K. It does fine with this, but other features are not as useful. Cons Wish it had the ability to fill in a grade for every student NOT already assigned a grade. (i.e., enter the few non-100s and then just fill everyone who did score a 100). Also wish it would integrate with Canvas better. It is not easy to select just parents for sending an email (too many clicks and fields to work through). Review Source JP John P. If there is ever a time when one pines for the good old days of keeping a paper "grade book", you have to know that something is amiss. Pros It certainly is speedier to put in grades and create lesson and project listings online, however, the setup at the beginning of each semester is a slog. I don't understand why we can't just continue our settings until we wish to change them. Cons As I've mentioned previously, the setup of our classes cannot be continued from semester to semester and the setup is rather onerous. Some of the features seemed user un-friendly at first. Once I got acquainted with the software I can zip around and complete hours worth of work in minutes. Teacher appreciate every minute we get! Pros My favorite thing about PowerSchool is that everything is in one place. You sign onto one program and everything is there for you: attendance, student information, grades, etc... Cons One of the things that bothers me most about PowerSchool is that the buttons are small icons, without labels. It would be helpful if a text box appeared when you hover over a button to give a short description. If you don't know what a button is, you have to click to find out. June 5, 2018 3.0 PowerSchool was a helpful tool for tracking my students' progress in school. Pros I like PowerSchool's functionality, and being able to follow my children's grades, attendance, etc. Cons There were issues with getting accounts set up and linked through PowerSchool that made the experience frustrating at first. When I try to use the website, the login page just leads to the FAQ page and there is no way to log in. Pros The concept of this app is great. The execution of it falls extremely short. My students know that I will sometimes use the "random seat generator" function to mix up our class seating and they also know that parent contact information is just a click away for me, which keeps them more accountable for their actions in class. Pros Taking attendance is a cinch with PowerSchool, butI really appreciate that I can look deeper into my students' school performance with the click of a button or two. Although I am their science teacher, I have easy access to all of their grades, including missing assignments and directions for completing them. It has made proving specific support to individual students more meaningful and helpful. Cons I don't like that I can't print class lists without also printing extraneous information, such as text boxes that appear for attendance taking purposes. Review Source RD Ruth D. I take attendance in PowerSchool, I use the seating charts, and I enter all of my grades in PowerSchool. I love that my school can upload student pictures. I have nearly 130 students, so it's helpful to be able to see their faces to learn their names. Setting up assignments and entering grades is super easy and you can weight your assignments, you can add extra credit, and you can have PowerSchool figure out final grades, etc. I think it's very useful for anyone who teaches. Pros The fact that I can see the beat details of Our children's current: Grades, schedules, assignments turned in, and missing assignments is by FAR THE BEST comfort a parent can have on their side! Teacher Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Easy To Use and Organize " August 28, 2019 5.0 Pros At it's very basic usage, Powerschool is simple to learn and easy to use to take and record attendance, lunch count, tardies, etc. My favorite feature is the customizable options for grading! This has helped me to have accountability and provide proof for parents of grades, missing, and completed assignments. Cons Powerschool is easy on the teacher's end, but a little trickier on the parent end. There are more hoops to jump through and I find the parent view is not as friendly as the teacher view.
