CEO and Principal Consultant Professional Training & Coaching Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Works pretty well but prefer Microsoft Teams" January 1, 2026 4.0 It works as quick communication, but I find that it doesn't do its intended job because sometimes I do not even know if I have received a message, unless I get an email notification telling me that there is a message I need to respond to. Pros It is easy to chat with others as well as hop on a quick video call without there being too much human error (or for people without much computer experience). It's easy to copy and paste photos from snips to share quick info. I would say I like the video feature the best - you just send a video link by pressing a button and then you can video talk immedately on Google Meet. Cons The notifications of chat are not enough - most time I do not even know if I received a Google chat notification. I do get emails from it, but with chat, you typically want to know immediately. I prefer Microsoft Teams Chat. I would recommend that Google make the message pop up in a better location or maybe a different noise so I know I received a chat. The GIFs and memes make conversations more fun, and the integrations help keep my workflow nice and smooth. Pros Super easy to use! Everything feels straightforward and smooth. The Google Drive and GCal integration works really well, and I love how quick it is to start up huddles or Google Meets whenever I need. Cons I just wish you could set status messages to give more insight to "online" or busy." This alleviates the need for me to add an additional OOO message. Pros It is a challenge for me to identify some great qualities, while I used the Google chat platform. I can say that it is easily accessible linked with my 2 Gmail accounts, but it is not a popular communication platform among most employers in my opinion. Cons What I liked least about Google Chat is that it is not as professional as other communication platforms. I receive messages or have received unwanted messages in the past from fraudulent users. " December 18, 2025 4.0 My overall experience has been very positive, especially since moving from Slack which we were use to, the transition went very well. Our team is able to stay connected and organized by centralizing conversations, file sharing, and collaboration in one place. Quick messaging and real-time updates help us stay on the same page, make decisions faster, and keep projects moving smoothly. We use it all day every day! Plus, the cute emojis and funny GIFs make our chats more lively and fun, which keeps team morale high even during busy days. Pros It keeps my conversations, files, and collaborations all in one place, helping our team communicate efficiently and get work done smoothly. Cons It can be tricky to add people outside of our organization to spaces and chats. Conversations can get a little cluttered, and the interface sometimes feels less intuitive compared to other messaging apps. It integrates well with our work email and allows us to communicate quicker versus sending emails or phone calls all the time. It also allows people to throw their personality out there more with the gif/emoji features. Pros I like Google chat because it's an efficient and effective way to communicate with my coworkers. I enjoy the gif and emoji features that it comes with. I also like that I can customize my out-of-office emoji and statement for when I am away. It's very easy to learn how to use the chat system. Google support has been easy to work with when issues have arised. Cons The only con that I can come up with, is that you can only upload one document to a chat. So if I'm trying to trouble shoot an issue by sending multiple screenshots via chat, I have to do it one by one instead of attaching all documents. We use it as our primary method of communication. Pros The integration with google workspace. They're still developing it and creating new features that are making it more useful regularly. Cons It was a hard transition from Slack. It's harder to bring in non-employees and intehrate them into conversations with employees. Spaces have to be designated for employees only or open when you create them and you cant change this. It helps me be more efficient, and there is no "free" version or addons that we need to get. Pros I like the ease of use, and I don't have to download any application. We use it for project group, social groups, and company and team announcements, so I am in chat all day everyday. I can also pin it so I always know where it is, and I can set notifications that don't interrupt me all day. I can also pin certain people and groups to easily find them, because those are the ones I need most often. Cons Because we use it so much, I do get a lot of pings from chats I don't really care about, like a social chat, but I still need to be a part of them. Pros Our company utilizes google chat on a daily basis throughout the day. Google chat is mostly how we communicate to 50+ employees at two separate locations. We have a chat group specifically for all employees as well as multiple different chat groups for different departments. The feature to @ a group or person is a perk as well. The convenience of sending a quick message in google chat is a lot more efficient than typing up a mass boring email. You can also download the app!
