Cons As for now, the new version, lacks the ability to notify new messages as it wont run automatically in background, you need to execute it and leave it minimized to get notified when a new message comes in, this is a huge tumb down, as if you close the app then you will get disconnected.... It is not comparable to other more robust software, but Google Chat is another Workspace tool, so together you can carry out a more complex collaboration. Pros I like the simplicity of the product. Its overall functioning is smooth , i guess the best part is that has access through gmail app on laptop and desktops so you don't have to switch over apps. Cons Chats does not pop out easily , the chat boxes are pretty small and designing of tools is not great. when you switch the history on , the instant notification goes to other user/users , there should be an option to stop that. It allows everyone in the room to communicate without the need to physically get up and walk around. The ability to insert screenshots, gifs, and group chats are some functionalities that are included in this program. There is also the option to perform video and audio calls as well. A record of all chats can be found in your Google account - they can be deleted there as well. Cons I would like to see the option to attach files to a chat. Instead of emailing the file to a coworker it would be nice to just drag and attach a document. I would also like to have to ability to search through a chat using the CTRL + F command. I would highly recommend using it especially for professional reasons. Every parent of my students owns a Gmail account and it makes communicating with them as well as people in my personal life so easy! Pros I like Google Chat because most people these days own a Gmail account, and I am able to chat with them directly from my Gmail homescreen. As an educator in particular, it is very helpful for me to send a parent a message when I see that they are online rather than having to wait for them to reply to an email. This helps me get things done quickly and to give and get feedback in my work. This also applies to my friends and family, many of whom have Gmail in the background. I love utilizing all of Google's tools because everything is so centralized in one area and helps me be efficient and quick. Plus I love that I can start a video call and add people to my conversations!! Cons What I like least about Google Chat is that the chatbox is somehow inconveniently placed and I have to constantly minimize it to send an email in the background. It would be helpful if I could move the box to where I need it, or if it could detach and be placed elsewhere on the screen. The only other thing I would say is that not everyone is always on their Gmail so I would not utilize this for the same purposes as Facebook Messenger, for example, but rather to reach people I see online immediately or for communication that I do not require an immediate response from. Pros I love the fact that is so light on your computer ram and proccesor, lately many email services are really heavy for the internet explorer you use (safari, google chrome, opera) and having such a light chatbox over your email its a really sweet experience,you can be talking with a friend like you would on any other platform while sending an important business email. Cons Maybe t's a bit hard to silence it if you need to focus on your emails, but aside from that is not such a big deal, its really nice and has some really cute emoticons. We can reach anyone at anytime. If the person you message is unavailable or offline, they will see the message when they come back online. Pros Google Chat (Hangouts) is very easy to use! I am one of seven members of a technical consortium for our local schools and we use a group chat between the seven of us to relay problems and ask questions to one another. I have able to see the Google Chat no matter where I have been. Google Chat has become Google Hangouts. Google Chat only did texting where as now that it is Google Hangouts, we can do video conferencing as well. Cons The only complaint I have is that when I am using this for texting a coworker and they don't have respond. I wish there was a way to send a "buzz" to alert that a message is waiting for a response.
