It allows me to stay in an official mindset while instant messaging my contacts without getting distracted as I easily would if I had to do it through other instant messaging and chat apps like whatsapp or viber. I like how it offers a casual feel to official communications with clients and partners. Pros Google chat allows me to maintain high productivity in my communication channels. Instead of staying in long gmail chains to hash things over, I can easily access my google chat and instant message my contact and get things sorted out much faster. Cons All the limitations that came with google chat for me were fixed by the introduction of google meet. And I consider them all to be the same product anyway, so I guess I have no complains left. And the App helps to be online all the time. Have been using this for more than a year, and seems we don't need any paid apps to switch to, Chats has all the required functionalities which we need. Pros \- It's by Google and hence no need to create any new accounts :) - It's fast and the new update on the android app is also amazing. - it has integration with hangouts which provides free voice and video calls - Basically it is a competitor to chat apps like slack, Ryver, etc - and had done quite a decent job and improvising over the time. - Has options of creating groups called as rooms where we can discuss on particular topic and can be referred anytime in future. - Recently they activated the edit option which is cool. Cons \- Can keep or add a few new features like read recipients - Also, multiple file upload option is missing - Drag and drop option is missing - which I think is a big gap. We now use it across our entire team to share quick updates, check in, ask questions, and avoid endless calls and meetings. It helps us stay productive, collaborate, and remain in touch while we work remotely. Pros We use Google Chat across all of our teams to quickly get information out or to share updates. It drastically cuts down on the calls, emails, texts, and even meetings that are required for our team because we can quickly and effectively communicate on Chat. The history makes it easy to go back in conversations if you forgot something, and it is super intuitive to use overall. I love that it is also easily accessible in mobile without having to download an additional app! Cons I wish it was a little more user-friendly in terms of sharing documents - but once we have shown our team how to do it they have all figured it out! I really don't have anything to add as this software is so great for our team. Cons When compares to other messaging apps, it is too ordinary. That's the main reason everyone choosing other alternatives when compares to Google Chat. " May 7, 2021 5.0 Google dropped the ball a bit on building this platform out and when the pandemic hit, competitors like Zoom and MSFT teams developed more comprehensive platforms for businesses that were moving remote. Because of this, it seems like usage is not as prevalent as it once was, and I fear that that might limit the resources devoted to Googles chat platform going forward. That said, I and a sole proprietor with a small team, and GChat is more than sufficient for my needs. Pros Google chat is as comprehensive as most of the p2p chat platforms and more often than not, the connections is more reliable that paid alternatives. I love how it's embedded into Gmail so I can move from composing an email to chat to chat on one pane of glass. Cons Security is questionable. We use both Slack and Google Chat throughout the business (largely dependent on what different people are most comfortable using), and it works well as a basic tool for pinging people when needed. It wouldn't be my first choice for a chat application, but it's a great supplement/a great option for businesses that are already invested in G Suite. Pros Google Chat is really easy to use, and it sits in your inbox, which makes it easy to stay on top of all your communications in one place. While this isn't the primary concern of users like me, it's also worth noting that Chat comes as a part of G Suite, making it a great deal for small businesses who mostly want the Drive/Email features and don't have any complex chat needs. Cons This is about as simple of an app as you're going to find, which means useful features like creating chat channels for large groups, or easily retaining access to your message history with other users (you need to search in Gmail to get the full transcript), aren't supported particularly well. There are other shortcomings, like a poor experience sending and receiving files, that also make this app a little less than the best.
