Pros The product is super easy to use and understand since the first use, icons are clear and simple, video and audio work great even if you're not connected to a wi-fi net. Cons There's really nothing I dislike about google hangouts, I could say that the only thing that could improve and is not a big deal is the resolution for the sharing screen feature. Able to send / receive any documents, forms or images that need to be sent to future clients. Never have had a problem and highly recommend. Cons There is nothing I don’t like about the product. Pros Google Hangouts is extremely easy to use and the availability in handsets and computers make it more convenient. Main features which I like most about Google Hangouts are as follows - instant messaging, focused screen, voice and video calls, file sharing options etc. In addition to these, the customer support is excellent. You will quickly find yourself using email less and instead opt to chat your colleagues quick small questions as it is much more efficient. Would definitely recommend Pros \- Easy to use, accessible from multiple points. The chatbox interface in Gmail is useful as google chat can be quickly accessed from there, and if you prefer a more immersive experience then chat.google.com works very well too - Nice features, like bots and creating rooms. I especially like the feature that allows you to individually react to messages, a bit like Discord - Well integrated into G-suite, so I can message other people in my organisation quickly even if they haven't used Google Chat before as it's quick to learn Cons \- I wish that I could change notification settings so I only get a ping if I am @ or I can change the notification tone, it gets a bit annoying if you receive a lot of messages - I wish the the Chat Rooms were also accessible from Gmail, not only the individual messages, as on Gmail Google chat works through the old Hangouts interface Review Source Thomas M. I think it's still a great communication platform, and I like the way it's designed, but time will tell if Google can provide the long-term support required for it to gain some real momentum. Pros I enjoy the overall design of Google Chat -- it provides a high degree of function without overcomplication. Features like "Spaces" makes group communication and collaboration feel effortless. I like that it is seperate from the larger social media networks like Facebook. This allows Google Chat to be a little more focused, a little more distraction-free, and a little more business-orientated. Its integrations with services such as Gmail and Google Calendar are very welcome. Cons Honestly Google have been so all over the place with their messaging apps for years, and I think it has confused and turned off a lot of potential users. Therefore even with its deep connection to Gmail, it can be challenging to bring others into the Google Chat platform, when they may already be ingratiated in platforms like Slack. Who doesn't use this!? I use it at work with my colleagues and in my personal life. I'm old, and it reminds me of the old AIM days, where you log in and see who is online to chat. Really though - I almost like it more than slack and all of those more advanced chat tools. This one keeps it simple, but has just enough functionality to make it incredibly useful in a work situation. Cons No issues. I feel like it does exactly what it's intended to do. It gets the basics right without adding too many extra features. If you are looking for a chat app that offers a better mobile experience and can be tailored to your business, I would look elsewhere. Pros Google chat gets the job done. It is a barebones chat app that doesn't bother you with extra features. Some features I use daily are the ability to tag people in messages, create private and public groups, use the browser version and chat on your phone. Integration with gmail is quite nice too. Cons Compared to other, more feature packed apps, Google chat is a little lacking. The desktop app crashes for me at least once per day. There is little to no customization for notifications. When you get a desktop notification, you cannot click on it to take you to the app. Features of the mobile app are split between two different apps (hangouts and chat). Review Source TT Taryn T. It is great for sharing files if your company uses google sheets/docs/etc. Searching is easy and chats come up when you search in gmail which is really effective. Cons The bot features aren't always intuitive. Slack is still better for the fun side of chats with gifs and hashtag groups. The desktop app sometimes quits unexpectedly and I have to re-download it. I like that it keeps the history of our conversations and that you are able to tag people to bring them into the conversation. It is great for large and small teams. Pros What I like most about Google Chat is the ability to have larger chat threads with multiple team members, but also have single chats with only one team member. Having these available at simultaneously is so helpful. It helps cut down on extra emails back and forth and lost email threads. Cons I would like Google Photos to integrate better with Google Chat. When I insert a photo or image from Google Chat from my Google Photos, my team members are not able to view it. Its takes extra steps to have to download and then attach the image to a message. If you have a choice or option to pay for another platform, do it. G Hangouts is free and it shows. It doesn’t always work when it needs to, and there are better options out there. If budget is an issue, I’d encourage IT to be aware of potential issues that could cause disconnection or video lag. Pros Google hangouts is free and offers some major features that other paid subscription video conferencing platforms have- not all, but some. Virtual backgrounds are nice, synchronization to GCal is flush, and there’s a nice organizational page to view all daily meetings. Cons G Hangouts really slows down my computer. It’s clunky, the video refreshes a lot, and it doesn’t play nice with bank’s firewalls. Usually clients prefer another video platform as this one uses a lot of GPU and is not very dependable. I’ve seen crashes, exiting / rejoining scenarios, freezing, and more. Have not contacted support. Pros I use Google's chat mostly for side initiatives I work on outside of my big tech co dayjob, out of the fact that it migrates easily over from/integrates with legacy Google Hangouts—which my collaborators and I had been using for years. So I guess there's nostalgia value and purposefully having a lightweight chat option that's good? Cons To say the least, Gchat lacks the robustness and network effects of competitors like Slack. We have spanish translators in our office. Sending a quick "chat" message to the spanish translator expedited any necessary communications we had with our clients. Cons The messages would sometimes be forgotten about and I would have to resend the complete chat message. With an email, I can just send a quick reminder bump email about the task. Since the release of Google Chat, it is obsolete. Pros This product was functional with GSuite. Since the switch to Google Workspace, Google upgraded the tool to Chat which is even better.
